One year. Twelve strangers. An unbreakable contract. The first time I saw the secluded mountain-top villa, I thought it was beautiful. Then I met the powerful men who owned such a place. They forced me to bow down before I knew their names. Exposed me to their hungry eyes. I’m their prisoner for a year. This is all thanks to my dead father. He left me a massive diamond mine. Everyone here wants it… marrying me is the only way. 12 months. Each one dedicated to a different gorgeous, wicked man to do as he pleases. And at the end they’ll fight over me in an auction. There’s no love here. No kindness. That’s what I tell myself so I can resist. Because if I thought for a second that one of these tempting strangers could fall for me, heart and soul, I’d lose the only power I have. If I fall in love… That’s when I’ll truly surrender. A Year of Book 1
This novella was actually quite interesting with a plot that I’ve never seen in a book before.
Now, keeping in mind that this is only a 90 page long novella is important, because obviously there isn’t much room for an intricate and detailed plot or for much character development. Also, the story progresses really fast with quite a few jumps in the timeline.
There is also a case of “insta love” or - since I wouldn’t talk about love that soon - instant attraction. To be honest, I don't really know what to think about the main character and “Sir Jasper” yet. There is talk already about him being the only one for her and I would love to see whether these feelings will hold true. Honestly, if that were the case I would really think of it as cute. However, there will be 11 months in which the female MC will stay with the other guys, so let's just say I am VERY sceptical of these initial feelings. I doubt her feelings, because these feelings appeared way too quickly and let’s be honest, where would the fun be in a novella series such as this one, if it were all decided in book one and she wouldn’t develop feelings for the other guys, right?
The explicit scenes in “Sir Jasper” weren't top notch. They weren't outstanding, because the deep connection was obviously missing, but they were nice, because of the tension involved.
What I really liked most about the novella was the story itself. It is really original, it is fast paced and I liked the writing. It definitely intrigued me, which is probably the most important thing with a series like this. I really enjoyed these 90 pages and the entertainment factor and the originality of the story received 4 stars from me!
Okay this book reminded me so much of another favorite series of mine. It had the same vibe so I was very curious to see where it would go. Marjorie finds herself at the mercy of 12 men after being manipulated by her uncle, her only living relative. A remote location. A centuries old tradition. At the mercy of twelve men that own her life. This was a quick and entertaining read with a refreshing plot and mysterious characters. I am very intrigued by Jasper and the rest of the men that we will meet. I loved the steam although I did expect Marjorie to be more determined to get out of her situation and there was a bit of an insta-lust with the men she has met so far... I am not sure where the author is taking this but I wanted the heroine to be a bit more of concerned of her fate than becoming putty at the hands of the men. Sure, she was naive and inexperienced but still! Hmm. Still, I am very curious to see where this goes. 3.5 Stars!
I enjoyed this book while I was reading it but at the same time the subject matter pissed me off and the insta love was to insta love for me but do I plan to continue on with the series yes I do because despite my issues I was still sucked in.
This book captivated me from page one. I DEVOURED this story in a matter of hours and was left dying for more!
Marjorie lost her parents and was sent to live with her uncle….or so she thought. She learned that she must participate in an old tradition and in the end it will end in a marriage and her new husband inheriting her families diamond mine. She has one year before the auction and each month is spent with a different man, the first being Sir Jasper.
This book is hot, it is steamy, it is erotic. With the men Marjorie has met there is an instant lust between them all. With Jasper there is some insane chemistry from the moment they met and the more time they spent together it only seemed to grow. I am curious to see what will happen between them as she spends time with the other men.
If you’re looking for an erotic, secret society vibe story this is one to check out.
After Marjorie’s parents pass and she’s sent to live with her uncle she gets news that she’s to live with a new stranger each month then pick one to marry. Sir Jasper is first up and the story heats up from there
Marjorie turned eighteen just weeks ago and instead of it being a joyous occasion, her life fell apart when her parents died in car accident. If it wasn't for her Uncle Haulden arriving she doesn't know how she would have managed her parents' burials and everything else that needed to be done.
She is currently in a helicopter to move in with her uncle in the Sierra Nevadas. They are flying over a vast wilderness and she's beginning to wonder if she's made the right decision when she sees a clearing through the trees. A massive compound consisting of at least a dozen mansions along with small cabins and outbuildings.
She is amazed but overjoyed that her uncle lives in one of these mansions. They overshadow anything in Los Angeles. Her uncle meets her at the helicopter and leads her up the path to one of the mansions. Everything is exquisite inside and out including masterpieces on the walls.
But everything else fades away when a man enters from a door on the right. He is just stunning and his green eyes freeze her in place. Then she is told his name is Jerome Helm or Sir Jasper. Sir?
And when he tells her "You'll call all of us Sir in this place. The twelve men who live in this town. The twelve you will serve for the next year...until one marries you." Her uncle lied to her. And evidently she should have asked her dad what he did for a living.
Years and years ago the miners were concerned about losing their claims so they made a pact that only family could inherit the mines, but only sons were allowed to actually inherit. If a family only had a daughter she was to be put up for auction to the other families and her new husband would inherit.
And evidently she had inherited a diamond mine. She had to literally signed her life away in blood when presented with the contract. Failure to sign wasn't an option. Tonight she was to attend a celebration. Yeah, she didn't have anything to celebrate except wanting to murder her uncle. Now she knew why she'd only met him a few times before.
She was stripped bare and each man was given one minute to view the wife that was going up for auction. Sir Jasper, Sir Onyx, Sir Ruby, Sir Malachite, Sir Emerald, Sir Amethyst, Sir Sapphire, Sir Alexandrite, Sir Emerald.....
Her first month is with Sir Jasper and try as she might he wouldn't take her virginity and let her stay. She felt a real connection with him and didn't want to spend time with any of the others no matter how gorgeous they were and her promise to submit to them all.
I loved this book! This book is told solely through Marjorie's POV. It is well written and the characters are well developed. The storyline is engaging and draws you into Marjorie's new circumstances.
Marjorie grew up in a loving home and was spoiled beyond measure giving her no experience in taking care of herself. Although she has been sheltered all her life she isn't an annoying spoiled brat. I really liked her character.
Jerome, Sir Jasper, is a wonderful character. Even though you know he wants Marjorie has come close to taking her virginity, he knows he has to follow the pact. You can tell how much it pains him at the end of the book to hand her to the next man when his month's time is over.
Next, Sir Onyx. Looking forward to what he is looking for in a wife.
Sir Jasper is book one in the ‘A Year of Surrender’ series by Emily Aster. This series is kinda different and very entertaining. Majorie has just turned eighteen, graduated high school, and lost both her parents in a car accident. When her uncle offers her a place to live with him she accepts. Majorie is taken to a remote town in the Sierra Nevada mountains where she is effectively going to be held prisoner for a year. She will spend one month each with twelve bachelor’s and at the end of the year, they will bid on her, her virginity, and her inheritance.
This series starts off with a bit of background and mystery into the town, these people, and Majorie’s family’s past. It was definitely an interesting and entertaining read that I enjoyed. There is a lot of intrigue in this book and it seems like each new book in the series will allow us to learn more about the secrets of the town and the founders. All of the men seem very mysterious. Very little is revealed about them, but we meet many of the men Majorie will spend time with. There was initially some defiance in Marjorie’s character, but it kinda seems like it disappeared the moment Majorie had any contact with these men giving me insta-lust vibes. She is quite naive so that might add to her reaction. The premise of the series is very interesting, and this book was an addictive page-turner that held my attention from the first page. I’m really interested in seeing how Marjorie’s character develops and the unraveling of the mystery and suspense surrounding this town and the group of men.
This novella series is my first read by Emily Aster. And, it’s intrigued me completely. I’m very curious to see what filthy fun she has planned as the series progresses. If you are looking for a standard romance- look the other way because there will be none of that here. About The Author states that Emily doesn’t shy away from the raw, decadent heat of intense romance and it ain’t no lie 🔥😅 So, if you like your reads dirty, your men intensely dominant and h’s open to all the sexual depravity - dive in. To get the full effect, books must be read in order. POV is strictly told thru Marjorie.
Marjorie is 18 and has suffered the loss of her parents. When her uncle Haulden, whom she has had barely any contact with shows up willing to help, she not only lets him, but agrees to go live with him.
Once she arrives to his remote compound, her sheltered life as she knows it, is completely stripped away. Her legacy, one she had no idea of, and tradition dictates she participate in their rituals. 12 months, living one month each with 12 men who will bid on her hand, virginity, and rights to her father’s diamond mine. The only rules, besides the ones each Sir will make her obey, is they cannot take her virginity.
Sir Jasper is the first of the men Marjorie meets and the first she will stay with. Despite his claims that she isn’t his type- they have an intense connection.
“I surrender to you” but, which man will win the bid... and will Marjorie lose her heart along the way. Ah, this wait is going to be torture.
After losing her parents in a tragic accident just after her 18th birthday Marjorie goes to live with her uncle or so she thinks. Marjorie soon learns that she is part of a diamond mine tradition, one only a male can inherit, so she must serve 12 men, 1 each month and at the end of it the year they will bid for her hand in marriage. For the 1st month she belongs to Sir Jasper, a man who opens her up to a whole new world of delight but they know it will only last the month before shes givencto another. Thisbis my first book by Emily Aster and ill be back for more! The tension and desires roll of each character that burst with chemistry and leave you wanting more! (Only because each man can not take Marjorie V-card until they win the bid) the suspense and mystery builds up from the start and holds your attention through out. I cant wait for book 2!

𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊: Sir Jasper 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐄: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄: BOOK 1 OF THE SERIES ONE YEAR OF SUBMISSION. 𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑: EMILY ASTER 𝐏𝐎𝐕: FIRST-PERSON: SINGLE PERSPECTIVE (MARJORIE.) 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Now thats how you start a series and keep the attention till the end....OK, let me say that I wasn't expecting this book to be so hot and erotic bundled in a suspense ball... Marjorie finds herself at the mercy of 12 men who lived in the town and she has to spend 1 month with each men after which she will have to choose one to marry... This novella is around the possibility of Marjorie with Jasper...11 more men are to come so it's a hard challenge...it seems like Japanese Reverse Harem Anime with more steam and chemistry...
I am loving it and so excited to see where the author will take the series further...Next up Sir Onyx...
Marjorie is in shock after her parent’s tragic death in a car accident and her carefully crafted world comes tumbling down as her uncle swoops into help. No good deed goes unpunished as Marjorie suddenly finds herself trapped on a remote mountain, surrounded by 12 gorgeous men & at the end of the year, she’ll be on the auction block as they vie to win her virginity along with her hand in marriage to control the legacy her father left her. Marjorie can’t take her eyes off Sir Jasper and her resistance soon turns to a heated inferno as every moment spent with Jasper has him digging himself further into her heart as she falls hard for the man behind the mask. All too soon the month is up, but Marjorie isn’t the only one enamored and will Sir Jasper be able to let go of the woman who has stolen his heart? This ends on a cliff hanger.
I received an ARC of this book via Book Sprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first of twelve books in the “A Year of Surrender” series by Emily Aster. This is the first book written by Ms. Aster that I have read, and I am hooked on the series and her style of writing.
Marjorie is an eighteen year old, recent high school graduate with plans for college, and now her parents are deceased. An Uncle she doesn’t know very well has invited her to live with him. Marjorie soon finds out it’s a secluded town on a mountain side and the only way in is via helicopter. Then her world shatters all over again when she finds out what’s really going on. She’s very unfamiliar with men as her father did not allow her to date or even talk to boys as she attended an all girls school. The year of surrender involves sexual activities that Marjorie is unprepared for. She feels isolated with the maid being her only friend and she wants to escape. Can she survive this year of surrender?
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What an intriguing series premise this is. We meet Marjorie who recently turned eighteen graduating high school. She has big plans that get detailed with the sudden death of her parents. Raised sheltered she has no clue what to do but her Uncle steps in saving the day. She agrees to go live with him for awhile as she tries to cope. A huge surprise waits for her once she gets there. She is the only daughter of a founding family making it required for her to be auctioned off after spending a year in surrender with each man getting one month with her. The kicker is she has to stay a virgin until then. Sir Jasper is first and man is he hot. Makes for a fun read as she tries to figure this out. Intriguing to say the least and I cannot wait to see how.this all plays out as the men are so different. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Marjorie is thrown into a year of surrendering herself to twelve different men after her parents die. At the end of the year there will be an auction for Marjorie. There's obviously more to the story, but that's just a brief summary and her first month is spent with Sir Jasper.
I really like the idea and storyline of this book, as I can't wait to see what each man is like during their month. One thing I wasn't a big fan of, is these books are less than 100 pages for each and I didn't really feel like you got to really know Jasper - that's the only reason I've knocked off a star.
There's some hot scenes in this, and it definitely captivated me in such a short book. I can't wait to read the next Sir in the series.
Stephannie's 4 Star Review: This is an interesting storyline that does remind me of another series but it is also completely different. Marjorie finds herself having to spend a month each with 12 different men and will end up married to the highest bidder. Marjorie's parents died and her uncle tricks her into coming to this place.
I am very intrigued by this story and I am interested in seeing what happens next. I felt the book was short and wished it was longer diving deeper into Jasper. There is so much unknown and we still have 11 other men to meet. I am not sure where the story is headed but I am up for the ride. I am very curious to see where this goes and can't wait for book 2.
After tragedy strikes, Marjorie finds herself at the mercy of her uncle who betrays her by making her think she will be coming to live with him. This was a quick, steamy read that has me intrigued for the rest of the story. I look forward to finding out about the other men and the direction the author will take this series. Like I mentioned, this was fairly short so don’t expect too much in the way of character development, but if short, steamy, secret society is your thing, this is a great read!
Arc for honest review . Sir jasper is the first book in a new trilogy by the very talented Emily aster . I can’t even express how much I truly loved this book , an amazing start to what is going to be a awesome series , I mean wow , I was so hooked , I could not even put it down , I need more right away , more sir jasper - so hot and controlling . Will they love her? How will she be treated? Her first month is with Sir Jasper and their attraction is off the charts. Buy the book it is worth the read.

Sir Jasper book one in A Year of Surrender Series by Emily Aster is one of those books that you can’t believe what is happening. It seems old school and a traditional trait that shouldn’t be used in today’s society. But as you continue reading you might feel differently. Well kinda anyways. 12 men vying for one woman’s attention. It’s sounds both barbaric yet almost romantic. Atleast Sir Jasper seems to have that romantic streak...but now we are on to Onyx. Will he be cruel or will he make us fall for him too. Only time will tell...I received a free advanced copy to read and review.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc for Sir Jasper. At first I was concerned I wasn't going to enjoy the story, due to the realization what a b#%t?*d her uncle is. Yet as I began reading, the story pulled me in. Marjorie is having to accept a lot of changes and everyone of them is enough to put most people over the edge, but she perseveres. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next book in the series to come out!
Sir Jasper was a very intriguing story. Marjorie was living the charmed life until the loss of her parents. Her uncle Haulden invites her to the Sierra Nevadas to live. Unfortunately, he's betrayed her. Now she'll live there for one year, with twelve different strangers. Marjorie and Jasper had great chemistry but, I felt sad at the end for Sir Jasper. Great storyline with interesting characters that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. Looking forward to Sir Onyx next.
One year. Twelve strangers. An unbreakable contract. She has 12 months and 12 men and each man gets a whole month to do whatever he wants with her and at the end, the highest bid wins her. This is the 1st book in the series and it covers the 1st man and the 1st month. It is on the shorter side like a novella but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After the death of her parents Marjorie was under the assumption that she would be living with her uncle. Betrayed. She soon learned that she would have to follow the tradition of the Diamond Mine. Her journey would last one year with twelve different men one each month. No taking her V-card. In the end the highest bidder would become her husband inheriting everything. My heart went out to Sir Jasper.
Can't wait for next installment, dark and dirty Sir Onyx!
The set up of thos series seems very interesting and I enjoyed this first book. We meet the main characters, some of them, with Marjorie finds herself suddenly in a position that is so completely opposite of her life up until then. Sir Jasper appears cold but in reality is just trying to find some self control. There are steamy scenes but I don't have any investment in the characters's fate yet..hopefully I will get more from the next book!
Okay, all I'm gonna say is..gurlllll I am a fan!! You sucked me in! I am so invested in these characters. I fell in love right along with Marjorie and I cannot wait to read the other 11 men. Okay now here my reader thoughts: Such a great plot. Great amount of angst and yet attraction with the two main characters. Love the mystery and even suspense filled moments. Just the whole package here!
This was the first book I read from the author, the book was good. I mean I like the story and I am kind of expecting some really good twists in the latter parts. but this book went really fast for me, I couldn't really get into the depths of the book, I was unable to get the feels, you know. I like the books that bring tears to my eyes, smile to my lips, and make me clutch my chest, but this book ended so quickly that I couldn't do all those for Marjorie and Jasper.
I don't know what to say other than wow . Hit and intriguing I couldn't put it down . I want more I need the next book like asap . Sir Jasper is my kind of man . Hot and controlling love it . Can't wait to read more . You have penny wydler to thank for me becoming a fan of your work .
Delicious book from Emily Aster Sir Jasper is a roller-coaster of emotions. It was so easy to feel for the characters. I absolutely loved the desire and the strength that came from young Marjorie. I am now waiting impatiently for book 2 Sir Onyx.
HOOKED! Ready for MORE! I took a chance on this new author and boy did it pay off. It kept me needy and on edge invading my emotions with heartache, sadness, fear, excitement, lust and a crazy hunger to devour every enticing word feeling the intensity of this well crafted story with a roller coaster of twists and hot chemistry. Boy do I want more I need more and am in it for the long haul and I'm assuming most likely two more books in this Brilliant series to come.
