Laurie Everyone underestimates a happy-go-lucky blonde. That’s why Laurie picked a blonde bombshell persona in the first place. It worked when she initially applied for the Brides of Beshtast program. All they saw was a sweet girl with honey-colored hair, looking to mate with a sexy alien… not a brunette with a dark mission and a secret past.
For years, Laurie has worked tirelessly to keep her real self hidden. It’s not that she wants to be alone; it’s just better that way for everyone else. Safer. Plus, if no one knows who she really is, it will be easier to complete her mission and fade away when it’s done.
Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to stay unnoticed… especially when it comes to a sexy and curious alien named Jessek, who seems determined to unveil all her secrets and destroy everything she’s worked for.
Jessek There’s something about Laurie. It’s not her body, or her sparkling wit, though those things don’t hurt. It’s the look in her eyes that only shows up when she thinks no one’s looking. The calculating, quiet expression that tells him she’s more than she pretends to be.
And when he finds her out late at night wandering by the docks, he realizes he’s been right all along. Can he convince her to trust him with her secrets? Or will she succeed in keeping him at arm’s length?
Juniper Kerry has been reading romance since she was twelve, and mistakenly took one of her mother's books to summer camp with her. Since then, she has been hooked on romance of all kinds, but she has a particular penchant for science fiction, supernatural, and OV romance. Who doesn't love a monster with a heart?

Laurie Grimm is on the planet Beshtast as a volunteer for their Brides program, potential mates for the Xalkes, who appear to be big, tough, kind, and protective. She chose to be a blonde because people would assume she was a sweet girl with honey-colored hair, looking for a mate, instead of seeing the brunette she was who has a dark mission and a secret past. She is being blackmailed to do this or the Sarta will never free her sister, Clara. She tries to keep herself hidden so tht she can complete her mission and fade away as soon as it is done. The only problem is that now a curious alien, Jessek, is watching her closely. If she cannot distract him, he could ruin everything for her. She has the meeting with the Sarta Administrator. They are pushing her to form a bond which they could study to see how bonds work and how they can use their chips, like the one they implanted in her head, in the future. When she is dismissed, she hurries back to her building but someone grabs her and slams her into the wall. Because of the experiments they have done to her, she has some things she can do to get the aroused alien away from her. She will shock him unconscious and he will think he passed out from drinking too much. Just as she is about to do it, a voice demands that he let her go. Jessek picks him up and punches him unconscious, dropping him to the ground.
Jessek has been watching Laurie and the calculating look in her eyes tell him she has secrets and is more than she is pretending to be. He sees it when she believes no one is looking. He finds her on the docks one night and knows she is up to something. Can he get her to trust him? Maybe he can help?

She is very attracted to Jessek and doesn’t want to let him know there is a bond between them. She is fighting the pull and the powerful instincts that draw her to him because the enemy would grab him for their experiments if they knew. Will she share the truth with Jessek? He is already suspicious and he wants her to trust him. Can she? Grab your copy and see how Laurie will ever get herself out of this dangerous situation and how she will save her sister.

Laurie however is also on a special mission for an alien entity (the Serta) that are on Earth doing experiments on humans and stripping Earth of their resources. She has been blackmailed to find a mate-bond and she knows that she has but she want to save her mate from the experiments that the Serta will do on him. You need to read this to find out how everything works out. You will not be disappointed. So glad that I read this story. I can't wait to read the next. This interesting book 2 in The Brides of Beshtast Book Series is a well-written story with amazingly well-crafted characters. These very well written characters, flaws and all, makes you feel their emotions and hope for them to make the connection. They have a wonderful chemistry in this very well-thought-out story and scenes. This story features steamy romance between an alien and a human with a HEA, and a mystery waiting of her behavior to be solved. I cannot wait to read more.

This romance was fun, though I did enjoy it less than I did the previous book in the series. There was a sense of ever-present danger in this one that was a bit of a downer. However, the stakes were high and the angst was medium, which I enjoyed. The hero was head over heels devoted to the heroine in that boneheaded alpha male way, which was a guilty pleasure. I loved the way this author deployed the Fated Mates trope. This was a fun read on a weekday evening.
The second book in the Brides of Beshtast series a story that kept me turning pages, this series is getting more intense with each new book.
