Sharon Bamber is an award-winning artist who is passionate about the natural world. She paints outside, captures the 'living landscape' on location, in all weathers and conditions; a practice known as 'en plein air'.
In this book, Sharon documents her most recent expedition: a 6-month, 1,000-mile walk across France and Spain, along the ancient Way of Saint James, to Santiago de Compostela, painting every 5 miles along the entire journey.
As she walks and paints, she shares her emotional response to the landscape, offering her art and narrative as a way to explore this ancient route of pilgrimage and to contemplate what it means to experience this human-land connection across time and place.
Sharon has created a beautiful book of her journey of the Way of Saint James through her art of watercolour and text. Her paintings brought back fond memories of my own walk of The Way.
