A cruel murder forces a Liverpool family to confront their past
The discovery of the badly burned corpse of a woman on an estate near the docks has DI Jordan Carr very worried. Especially as no one has been reported missing.
But there is one family who are grieving in private. Four siblings who have guessed the victim must be their mother. Four individuals who fear that the family’s Irish past has finally crept up on them.
Good police work leads DI Carr to the victim’s house but he is met with hostility. Even so, when the youngest daughter, Molly, goes missing with her small child, he makes it his personal mission to find her.
This will force the detective into conflict with his impossible bullying boss, DCI Cross, who seems intent on undermining his efforts.
Showing his tenacious side, Carr will have to go against procedure to find Molly, her child, and a killer.
This is the second book in the DI Jordan Carr series, and what a read! An engrossing mystery from start to finish. With exceptional writing, engaging characters and a captivating plot, this book won’t disappoint. Highly recommend!
Liverpool. A burnt body of an elderly female is discovered on waste ground. The family seem reluctant to approach the police to discover if it is their missing mother. DI Jordan Carr and his team investigate. I just lost interest in the story, and the people at about 23%
A family has lived their lives in fear. And when the worst of those fears becomes a reality, they spiral out of control. DI Jordan Carr must tread carefully to learn the truth about murder. But when that truth, in the form of a vulnerable young woman with a baby, is running a way from him, he'll have to pick up the pace - come what may.
Ok this book was just odd. The mother of this family is brutally killed. They even walk up to see the body. But they all refuse to tell the police . This takes place in England so whatever they call PD there... DI, CDI and DCI Cross who is barely mentioned . Just way too many letters that meant little to me. You are well into the book before there is even a hint as to why?! For me the first part of this book could have been more to the point. The second part was much better. A lot of words I had know clue what they meant. Irish slang/ English slang?? Honestly did not like one character in this book.
A partly burned body of an elderly woman is found but nobody is claiming her. But there are two siblings who suppose it could be their mum, only they don't want to come forward and contact the police because there are old secrets which must be kept deeply hidden.
A wealthy brother in Spain is unavailable till he calls Molly and instruct her and her baby boy to leave the house and go far away. Unfortunately somebody else is figuring out where they are staying and Molly and the baby are kidnapped.
The story is turning from bad to worse but DI Jordan Carr and his team are making slow but disturbing progress. Diligence and perseverance opens new venues and Serious and Organized Crime gets involved.
However, at the beginning of the book there is a little confusion about why the family won't go to the police when they think that the burned body in the empty lot is their mother. I almost put it down, because it didn't make sense. It seemed that there was a lot of gnashing of teeth and sobbing from her daughter and the son seemed like he was cold-hearted. I almost reread the beginning because I thought sure that I must have missed something. Being a person who finds it hard just to stop reading a book, I persevered and I was rewarded with a great mystery. After the first part of the book, it was a real page-turner. Stick with the book, you'll really enjoy it.
The mystery starts out with confusing information and emotions. The emotions of the family confuse DC Jordand his investigating staff. Add the confusing family responses to an obvious racist DCI Cross who doesn't want to deal with reality about the direction the investigatshould go and you have a suspenseful thriller mystery.
I like the main character DI Carr and his team. The storyline was intriguing and well written. My only complaint is the super who is portrayed as a royal arse. It seems a running theme in so many police procedurals and those books I read where there is decent person at the top are a breath of fresh air. Other than that I recommend this series.
This is well written and fast paced. Set in Liverpool which is lovely, I don't know many Scouse detective books but place knowledge is good. Likeable characters and a good story. I would like to know what happened to Eddie, Molly and Gary and of course little Jakey... Maybe the series will bring them back? I could see these becoming like Rankin books. Addictive.
This was good story and could be the foundation for a series. Great character development, high is essential to a good mystery. I will try the next one, for sure.
Had me hooked from the start really well written and a real page turner . The characters were all so believable and brilliant finished in just a few sittings. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes a good cop story
I enjoyed reading the book. It was different than I usually read but I want to read all the books by this author, I loved the characters, the towns, the story.
What a great book that was !! Knew nothing if the author but the blurb just appealed to me and I certainly don’t regret the decision to buy it !! I’m hoping now to find more DI Jordan Carr books and happy I’ve found another author to read
Captured my attention from the beginning and held it to its conclusion. Great character development and a very cohesive story line. A most enjoyable read and I look forward to my next book from Diane Dickson. Thank you
Isn’t grabbing me. DI Carr is back, with an unusual case where the family of the victim are strangely unhelpful. I liked that the storyline was a bit different. But the writing still lacks depth and punch. So, stopping with this series.
This was a simple but well thought out story. The history of the first victim's family seems to have caught up with them. But DI Jordan wonders if it actually has, as she searches for the victim's daughter and her baby.
For some reason didn’t expect to care a lot a lot this book but I sure was wrong - got nothing done because I couldn’t put the book down. Excellent read!
I enjoyed this book - good story, well written, well paced, good cliff-hangers and hints. And proper police procedural - just my favourite sort of story. Well done, congratulations to the author.
As my review of Book One in this series says, it was predictable. However, this book is much better and well-written. The characters have become more believable and likeable. I hope the other books are as good or better. Pssst, Jordan .....if you ever leave Penny, look me up. Just kidding, sort of!!!
