Nice Change of Pace

This book is out of my normal reading genres but I decided to give it a try.

Pros:
-Characters were enjoyable and made you feel for them
-Author is good at building emotional attatchments
-Good depictions on grief & loss
-Makes you reflect on what matters most and being present in the now

Interesting
-Characters focus almost exclusively on the best possible reflections of themselves with very little room for nuance. At first, I felt this was simplistic but then it made me think about memories and how we either tend to focus on the good or the painful. Harper in her grief chooses to remember the best in people and in her walk down memory lane very much tends to remember/focus on the positive side.

Cons
-The sci fi/fantasy part of me was more interested in the how/why of time travel which was not the focus of the book. My guess is that is more to do with the YA romance genre than anything else though.
-***kind of early spoilers***time traveling with a baby? The logistics of this are enough to give me anxiety all of which had to be glossed over to focus on the two main characters.
-Smoking as the big bad evil was kind of weird.

Overall, I enjoyed the read. It was a fun excursion into being present in the moment and remembering who matters in the here and now. I would definitely read something by this author again.

This book has its pros and it has its cons.

Pro: the emotions surrounding grief were so well written and realistic. The author must have real life experience to convey the feelings so well. It made me tear up several times.

Pro: the book is short, and I think it was a good length for the story told. The pacing was done well. There was no unneeded material imo.

Pro: I loved the ending. It was not what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. A little cheesy, but I still liked it a lot.

Con: time traveling with baby just didn’t make sense lol no one seemed as concerned as they normally would that their daughter just randomly has this baby lol even with her excuses, it still didn’t make sense. And what about things like a car seat? Stroller? Idk. I feel like that want done super well.

Con: the dialogue was a little repetitive and unnatural. The way Robert and Harper spoke to each other just didn’t seem like how teenagers speak to one another. And there were time when a proper noun was used too much in a sentence. Like, “Before I took Gail to my grandmas, I went for a short walk with Gail.” I know it’s a little nitpicky, but there were about 3 or 4 of these instances and they really stuck out.

Overall, I thought it was a really sweet story.

I enjoyed this book.
The writing evoked emotion and was well written.
With that said...It would have been just as good, maybe even better, without the happy ending. At first, I thought the entire story was going to turn out to be a coping mechanism for the narrator to get through her grief and learn to live again. But it worked well as an actual time-travel tale too.

Love, love, let me travel time

This book is so beautiful. A small and a beautiful story teaching us to appreciate our time with our loved ones.

I got the recommendation from my Twitter and I am glad that I got it.

I wish we had a short movie on this.

It's a cute book

The book did keep me interested until the end, but I thought some of the storyline could be improved. It did do a good job with making you feel the chemistry between the main characters.

I loved this book! I love time travel books like this where someone tries to save the love of their life. I thought it was cute and sweet. Also I graduated in 2007 like the characters so I felt like I could relate to them age-wise. This was a quick read and I highly recommend!
