Fitzwilliam Darcy falls for a lady in Derbyshire who is shrouded in mystery. With his father keeping secrets about the woman he loves, he is determined to protect her but find out the truth. Will he be able to accept her when all is revealed?
Rated T for mild language, innuendo, and minor violence.
I first read several reviews, seems like most if not all, belong to this authors' other stories and not this one. Not one review seemed to show anything about this story, which happens to be a mystery. It's hard to review a book without giving away most of the story itself. I will try not to give anything away. This story starts out with Darcy sneaking around and spying on his father. Now, if you're reading this review, it belongs to the book THE KEY by Kate Speck.
Kate's stories always need better editing, but that doesn't stop me from reading most of them. It's just frustrating to read at times.
I really liked the way this story ran. This pride and prejudice variation was out of the box. From Darcy's point of view, I enjoyed it. But... some things were rushed and could of been more romantic with ODC. I liked the twist in the end, and the fact that Darcy's father was still alive.
Fitzwilliam Darcy meets a mystery woman and wants to get to know her better after seeing her visit with his father. He is told to stay away, but he can't help himself. Their relationship is a risk to the young lady's future.
As the story unravels the mystery of Elizabeth, why she has been away from home, why she is important, and just who they should all be concerned about. I did NOT see the ending coming.
This adaptation is different from the usual in its plot. Elizabeth has been hiding from assassins for over 5 years since she saved Mr Darcy's life when his God son tried to poison him. She's traveled around England with guards and false names in order to be safe. After one abduction attempt she steals a key from the pocket of her abductors and they are trying to find her. Several aspects make no sense such as although she's hidden from everyone for 5 years the plan is now for her to show up at Longbourne, marry Stephen Lucas, and somehow live safely? If they are still after her then marriage to Lucas isn't going to save her. While at Netherfield her reputation is destroyed by Caroline Bingley who really wants Pemberley. Her attempts to get Mr Darcy to marry her fail so she turns her attention to Fitzwilliam Darcy, and makes up rumors of natural children, courtesan, and a life of debauchery to ruin Elizabeth. She attributes these rumours to the Netherfield housekeeper not knowing that she's Mrs Hill's sister and has known the Bennet family all her life. There's a huge problem with Elizabeth wedding to Darcy. White wedding gowns were not the style for another 20+ years when Queen Victoria married Albert. White was not worn often bc it was easy to get dirty, get spills on it from food and drink. The writer should have known that fact.
