A well written and interesting historical fiction novel. It is well researched and full of historical details of the period that gives it authenticity. The behaviour of the characters gives it a genuine flavour. It is the chase, based on a rumour, that gives it spice. Recommended reading.
This is billed as a Nico Argenti novel, but Nico is joined in the quest he's assigned by a soldier and a police investigator and each has roles to play to prevent war between Florence and Milan. I had a bit of trouble getting into this book, but once the three men were given their assignments and began to know each other, I loved it. They first have to solve a betrayal of Florence's best interests and then a murder. The investigation flows seamlessly and we see the way the three men become accustomed to each other and their individual skills. I loved the history brought into the story and the part the city-states themselves played in how the plot progressed. Good job1 I would read this author again.
I received this book with the understanding I would provide a fair and honest review.
First I would like to state that I received this book through the Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity and honor in being able to read this book. When I received this book I began reading it at once. I really enjoy the authors writing style, All the characters are very well portrayed though out. A most interesting read, I recommend this book
I won this book via a Goodreads Giveaway, and was happy to be given the opportunity to discover a new author. It’s probably a fine book, and probably also has its share of fans, but after about the first ten pages, I decided that the writing style and plot were not my cup of tea. So, my review probably isn’t that helpful, and others will need to judge the book for themselves.
