When his grandfather passes away, Lucas Brown finds an ancient looking leather-bound journal that contains an incredible account of the old man traveling though time. It changes everything he knew about his family. College student Ryden Brown began skipping back and forth through time with no control over where or when he would end up on any given day. He had resigned himself to living uncertain and alone outside the flow of time, until he met a mysterious stranger, and then saw the same man again the following day, centuries before. Drawn to each other in every era, whether by fate, some inevitable attraction, or simply luck, their love story was truly one for the ages... and then their time ran out, and Ryden was left to live out his life, and eventually die, over two hundred years before he was born. E Provost’s novella was a finalist in Wattpad’s 2020 Open Novella Contest and received an Honorable Mention for giving the judges “all the feels.” You will definitely want to have some tissues handy. For a first, unedited novella this book was pretty good. I stumbled upon it while looking for a novel with the premise of a time traveller and an immortal falling in love, and it did not disappoint. It's got the occasional odd word choice and wordy sentence, but overall I liked the writing. The Lucas parts felt a bit awkward, but I would love to see this written as a full novel from the perspective of Ryden so that the characters can be more fleshed out.
This is an excellent first novel. A college student from our future gets caught up in an ever changing time stream and travels to many different times and places. There is one constant in his life, an immortal Spartan soldier. It is short at 74 pages but the reader will feel satisfied with the details, the characters and the plot.
