Another sleepless night thanks to this writing team!
Amelia Storm's storyline just keeps getting better, and more intense, with every book! I can't put them down once I start! The emotional tornado caused by betrayal, revealed secrets, and snake-in-the grass Joseph just keeps the momentum zipping along. As always, I love that you get multiple POV, from not only the heroes, but the villains as well. Ugh, and the inevitable hook at the end... gets me everytime! I highly recommend this, AFTER you've read books 1-3; this is not one to jump into midseries. I can't wait for the next one!
I received an ARC from the author and have chosen to leave an honest review.
Well that was a twisty fun time! The ending of the last book made me think this story would be clear cut, but it was not..it was so good and full of little nuggets of goodness and hints. Amelia is as strong as ever, though this story shows more of her vulnerable side and doubts. Zane had several good moments but we did not learn too much more about him or his background in this story. Joseph...well he intrigued me this story...and the villain(s)?...well that was some great writing.
This is a fantastic series and one I enjoy reading. I can’t wait for the next book and to see more about the different families, the trust d relationship between Amelia and Zane, how their backgrounds come into play and more. Well done!
Omg!! This book is sooo good. I can’t believe it got better. I’ve been reading this series since the beginning and didn’t think it could get any better. It sooo did!!! Amelia Storm gets a call to meet an informant at an abandoned house. When she gets there the informant is dead and she’s being blamed for the murder. Who’s framing Agent Storm? Will her friends believe her? Will the real murderer be caught before her entire life and career are ruined beyond repair?
‘Military veteran turned FBI special agent Amelia Storm returns to her corrupt hometown of Chicago to avenge her brother’s death, becoming an unstoppable force that exposes the city’s darkest secrets while solving its most dangerous crimes.’
Storm's Ruin is Book #4 in the Amelia Storm Series by Mary Stone. This series turned out to be a fast-moving mix of crime, suspense, and personal drama that was so easy to get hooked on. I have been devouring my way through Ms. Stone’s series/books for a while now, and can always count on her to deliver an engrossing read, and this series didn’t disappoint. The books follow Amelia Storm, a military veteran turned FBI Special Agent, as she tackles dangerous cases that often hit close to home - especially after returning to her corrupt hometown of Chicago. Amelia is the heart of the series. She’s smart, determined, and unafraid to push boundaries, but she’s also human, carrying the weight of past trauma and personal loss. That balance of toughness and vulnerability makes her feel real and very relatable. The pacing is quick, the dialogue sharp, and the settings are vivid enough to pull you right into all the action. Each book works as its own mystery - but reading them in consecutive order lets you see not only Amelia’s growth but also the bigger story threads unfolding over the series. If you like strong female leads, gritty investigations, and thrillers that mix action with emotional depth, then this series is the one for you. Happy Reading…
FBI Agent Amelia Storm is chasing ephemeral clues and hints down a rabbit hole. Between looking for a case that will finally take down the Leone family, hiding her own ties to Chicago's mafia; Amelia must reconcile herself to the family issues she left Chicago to escape.
Discovering the facts behind her brother Trevor's murder and taking yet another chance on her addicted sister, Storm needs a place to anchor. With a military sniper skill set and the insight of a native she is well prepared to look into the dark side of her life and job including sketchy State Senator Stan Young
When Ben Storey, Young's opponent, discovers evidence that could take down the Senator he contacts Storm. The meet us set and Storm agrees to 'come alone'. Walking into a murder scene and finding herself the best suspect, Storm feels totally isolated. Can she trust anyone? Can she figure out what us going on? Or will she find herself in a sniper's sites?
I find these Storm books to be good procedurals to kill a couple of hours and I use them as filler in between my heavier reads that require much more thinking. This is one of the better books in the series so far with Amelia dealing with being framed for a politician's murder.
The bad news? I've read enough of this author's books to know that she'll never put any kind of satisfying ending in and that's the case here as well. To call them cliffhangers wouldn't do that word justice, the story just stops, right in the middle of the bad guys plotting their next nefarious scheme. It really feels like this whole series was written as one volume which was split up into smaller sections. Of course it's the author's prerogative to decide how she wants to structure her books, and I enjoy the characters so I'll keep reading, but only when I can get these at the sale price on Amazon - that's about all I'll pay for a book series that keeps short-changing its readers, even if I do enjoy the story. You have been warned.
Mary Stone has become my favorite writer my favorite author every time you think you have something figured out it goes out of the way to wish you right your character seem real seems like things are really happening it's like you're hearing someone tell a story that happened yesterday not something anybody came up with an imagination. Very creative I feel like I know the characters like their friends of mine this is the third series I've read that she wrote and I don't plan on reading anything else until I've read everything she wrote. The only thing I regret is that she can't write as fast as I can read when I finish all her books I don't know where I'm going to turn. I am enjoying them so much I can't put them down when I finish one I start on the next after I just told myself I was going to take a break. I can't recommend a series because one seems just as good as the others. I absolutely love this author. You wont regret it guarantee it
Not as blatantly stupid as book 3. Not nearly as good as book 1 or even book 2. I found myself skimming through most of it to get to the end. Why am I continuing with the series after book 3? Because I want to know how the storylines turn out. And I am holding out hope that the series returns to the same quality as the first book.
A big part of the problem is no ticking clock. Neither book 3 nor book 4 have a sense of urgency about them. Things just happen, the characters react, the end.
And here I was thinking this was the last in the series. Good thing I'm really enjoying it. Complication after complication. I almost read this in one sitting.
One thing: Every mystery, thriller, suspense writer MUST get a handle on suppressors/silencers. Hollywood is wrong (as it so often is)! Silencers (correctly called suppressors) do NOT silence gunfire in any sense that means the gunfire is not heard. All they do is suppress the sound enough to lessen the likelihood of hearing damage with repeat firing. Suppressed guns are still Very loud and still obvious as gunfire.
The character Amelia is written as a former elite military team member, GI Jane, FBI agent, but yet, we are to believe she was willing to turn tricks with an agent that was blackmailing her. She also knows someone is trying to kill her. She suspects she is being watched but totally ignores that feeling and walks into an ambush. This just doesn't make sense. Is she a premier agent or not? It is not necessary to make her act so stupidly in order to make her an endearing character. I find this very annoying, and it messes up the storyline.
Almost a #5 - the stories remind me of soap operas. Interesting main characters & good writing but the reader is always left with not knowing whether the criminals from when they were first presented, in the first story, are finally caught. The reader needs to continue to the next novel hoping that this time we'll see justice for all the victims. So it's onto the 5th book in the series - maybe I'll skip to the last book to when the entire organization will be caught. One can only hope!!
Meh...I think my interest is waning. How much longer am I willing to be teased along this drama line, with Storm making one poor decision after another? The plot not advancing, really. And the FBI cases just getting darker and darker. At least, it's a distraction from work woes...for now. I sense a series being dropped in my future, just like A.J. Rivers, probably. Too pat, too formulaic, too drawn out; heck, I can probably write the next one myself at this point. I'll read the books I've downloaded already and probably stop there.
This is one of those series books that just stopped at the end! No wrap up, no summary, just stopped! I suppose the authors thought the suspense would compel the reader to rush to read Book 5. Not me! I found Storm's Ruin to drag in several parts. The main character's romantic attraction to each other is developed by the authors in a very middle school, juvenile mentality.
This was another good read with Storm and Zane as FBI agents in the organized crime division. As they try to put together a RICO case against one of Chicago’s crime family; the continued presence of Joseph Larson and what she has kept from Dane is in the background. Then, they are drawn into a murder making it look like Storm did it. Can they clear her? Does Zane especially or anyone else believe her?
Amelia Storm is a great FBI agent, however as most people FBI She has secrets that keep her from allowing herself to be completely free. Sometimes she doubts her self, but she always figures it ou, it maybe at the last moment But she is checking out the situation. Great series
I had to read this installment of Agent Storm's thrilling story from beginning to end in one sitting. I have read all of these author's books, this didn't disappoint. June seems far away until the next book. Thank you for sharing your stories with your many readers.
I'm totally addicted to the Amelia Storm series. Can't wait for the next book. Love the interaction between Amelia and Zane. The twists and turns to "catch the killer" keeps you reading just one more chapter to see what happens next. Hats off to Mary Stone and Amy Wilson for writing a great series without a lot of filth.
Boy that was a close one! Kept me on the edge of my seat...hurry and write the next one so we know she gets that a...hole Joseph. Excellent series, I recommend it to anyone that like a good mystery series. Keeps you guessing right up to the end. Thank you Mary Stone and Amy Wilson.
The book covered a set up to eliminate Amelia. Through out the book I was guessing who the contract murderer was. Didn't get it right until the very end. Dealing with being set up and family was lot for her but she came out of it all. The FBI cleared her and saved her. Good reading.
This series gets better and better every book. The plots keep your interest and pages turning. Very hard to put this book down, needed to see what happened next. The characters are interesting and very well developed. With each book you learn more and more about their past and what has formed them into the people they are today.
The supposed end of the book said it was to be continued! I've had enough of playing cat and mouse with the plot! I have heard of ploys to get books published and read, but few were as unscrupulous as this! I'm done! Ill find other writers, other books, other plots and characters to pass the time.
I've read the Winter Black series, the Autumn Trent series, the Emma Last series and now the Amelia Storm series. All have been great! I am thoroughly impressed with this series. I'm looking forward to finish this series and start the rest! Thank you Mary and Amy!
This is great thriller. Loved it. The only problem is after this story line dragging on for two books I hope in the next one there will be an ending to that story line. I do recommend this book. The suspense is great.
So good. Amelia taken in for murder!! It can't be. This story kept me going trying to figure out the bad guys. There's always the obvious but he keeps showing up at the right time. This has to be the best in this series. I can't wait for the next.
This series is so good. I love Amelia Storm !! With all the action and suspense it’s hard to put these books down. A few good twists snd turns too. I can’t wait fir the next one!!
This is a great story, could be better if not so much in depth explaining. It just goes on for to long & I skip over some of it. I am going on to book 5. I sure hope they discover who is the bad FBI agent. It's gone on way to long.
When your trying to kill a FBI agent and someone running for public office do you hire just anyone? No lets be sure we have enough bad seed law enforcement to do the job. Read!
The author doesn’t hide her disdain for half of the country, in this predictable, overly wordy bore. Skip it, unless you have no desire for an interesting read.
