Once a wartime hero, Keir was famous for a cyborg, his face plastered on military banners on every side of the galaxy.
But he wasn’t a hero, not really.
He was a hunter, Nightheart’s free agent for the most classified missions. No one knew Keir worked for the EPED. He was beholden to no one. Stalking the most dangerous monsters across the universe.
So, when he encounters a beautiful, intriguing woman in the alien wilds on his latest assignment, he’s immediately taken aback. She’s smart, capable, and completely unafraid of her surroundings, no matter how brutal. But she's scared of him.
She has a past, one she refuses to share, and it's connected to everything he's been searching for.
Luckily, there’s no one more determined than him… Now that he has his mate to capture.
Naomi Lucas is an indie author. She loves being creative whether it’s with painting, writing, or making little jingles about her dog, Barracuda, or her cat, Daliah, in the car.
I...am honestly not sure why it's called Wings and Teeth? There are wings but he's like a bird shifter, so shouldn't that be Wings and...Beaks? But that is less sexy.
Anyhow, was looking forward to this and it did not disappoint! I liked the planet setting a lot, and Echo was a good, smart heroine.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍 Character development: ☺️😍🥰😁😋
The heroine:Echo - she lives in a compound on Volun which is Utha’s moon. She is the primary hunter and tech support for the compound and her jobs are never done. Someone always needs something from her. Even when she is out on an important and dangerous hunt not long before the burnout where she needed to restock their dwindling supplies of meat now or she would have to wait weeks to be able to hunt again.
The Hero:Keir - he is a hawk cyborg shifter working for Nightheart, who owns the EPED (Earthian Planetary Exploration Division). He is one of Nightheart’s best agents and he specializes in covert missions. He is checking out Volun because Nightheart thinks it might hold the secrets to where the Cyborgs, especially the shifter class were born. After they were created and before being sent off in the Galactic war which ended sixty years ago, the cyborgs were wiped of all memories of their creation so it couldn’t be used against them. Though Volun is home to an old military base that was used during the war.
The Story: While Echo is out hunting, she sees a spaceship flying overhead and is worried that it may be an offworlder, since she does not know of anyone that has a ship that still runs. After she gets her prey and is on her way home, she gets a com that there is an emergency, and she should return to the compound at once. She worries because of what she went through in the past after she had committed murder and was locked up and nearly tortured. She knew only two types of people ever trespassed on Volun, criminals and cyborgs.
I have to say, I liked all the secrets in this book, there were secrets in the last book, but in this one Echo was not just keeping her past a secret, but she seemed to know a lot about what went on at the former space base where the compound was located, and she was wary of the fact that Keir might be looking for his past like the cyborg Ares who came before was. Something went wrong during that time, and they had some sort of plan to make sure the same didn’t happen again.
I also loved the fact that Keir went through the Galaxy war in nearly the same way as Captain America went through the second world war. He was the face of the war, the “Hero” that the masses were shown as propaganda for the war. Keir felt guilty for not being in the thick of things with his brethren and now all he wanted was a nice place where he could be alone, and his hawk could be free.
I really enjoyed every book in this series though this one, I think was the best of them all. I even found myself crying at one point and I was surprised by the plot more than once. I like Naomi Lucas’s writing and the fact that she gives us non-traditional Heroes. In this series each Hero is a cyborg shifter with a different kind of animal. I also really enjoyed Naomi’s Naga Brides series, though those Hero’s were even more non-traditional, the stories were so great. I definitely plan to read more of her series, including the Stranded in the Stars cyborg series which takes place in the same world/galaxy as this series. However, I really wish this series would have one more book. I want Nightheart’s story.
Echo is a woman who is responsible for caring for the elderly people who occupy a colony on Utha, as she is one of the last able bodied individuals living there. Keir arrives and she is desperate to conceal her background and other secrets from him. Keir is a cyborg shifter who was created to be a symbol of success during a war and does not like humans. He and Echo are drawn to one another but have trust issues up the wazzoo. The love story had a tinge of fated mate flavor in it, and felt a bit shallow. I felt like the time frame was too short for them to fall in love and that they had too many issues that needed to be worked out to actually have a relationship. The lore behind the story was interesting - I enjoyed the cyborgs and colonization and war history. I was disappointed that it ended on a cliffhanger for the over arching plot. It also felt like the love story was a bit unfinished as a result.
Spice: 2 scenes
Triggers: violence, mention of medical experimentation
We're back with the cyborg shifters and they're... well, Nightheart is searching for answers. Which means he's sent Keir out to an almost-abandoned planet with a mostly defunct military installation to see what he could find. Keir finds a few answers (how they tie in to Nightheart's endgame is anyone's guess at this point), but he mostly finds his special someone. And that someone is guarded and protective and will do what needs to be done to keep the people remaining on her world safe.
Which means Echo and he are sort of working at cross purposes from the moment they first meet. He's looking for answers and she's trying to keep him from finding them. Except, not exactly. Echo has her secrets and she's been taught that those secrets will get her killed (or worse) if they get out. So she keeps them close and uses a bit of misdirection to give Keir what she thinks he's here for.
Seeing how these cyborgs are anything but predictable, he's not quite as satisfied with his half-answers as Echo hoped he'd be. And once the secrets start spilling out, THINGS HAPPEN.
These cyborgs are a little dangerous, a lot possessive, and downright relentless when it comes to the things that matter to them. GOOD STUFF!
Keir and Echo ❤️ What a storyline! A gorgeous cyborg lands on Echo’s planet looking for something. He finds so much and more. Echo is a beautiful young lady who wants to protect her planet and its secrets. In the process of so much going on they fall in love ❤️❤️ And (swoon) I fall in love with them. Echo is a tough and independent lady. Keir is just what she needs. This book ends with a cliffhanger and I’m definitely going to read the next book!
I didn't like the secondary characters. I am still unclear on what happened to the earlier cyborgs who visited the planet to find the lab. I don't know what happened to her mother and how heroine was conceived.
I liked the hero, but didn't like the heroine or her friends.
SPOILER SPOLER SPOILER SPOILER
Hero comes politely to the surface of the planet to ask about a cyborg lab that is rumored to be there. He brings gifts to thank the colonists for any rumors they share or help they can give.
It is obvious they don't want him there and he doesn't know why.
It turns out there is a lab and it's mostly destroyed. But there are half finished cyborgs that want to live. They will die if nobody finishes them. But they are part Tretian (the aliens the cyborgs were created to fight in the war) so if the Trentian aliens find out it could start the war again. And nobody is left to finish the cyborgs with that knowledge.
Heroine also killed a previous cyborg (Ares) who came to the planet. We are told that cyborg attacked her mother but heroine does not know if that is true or just a convenient lie. Her adopted cyborg father (Auryn) is damaged mentally and physically from keeping himself plugged into the nuclear reactor to keep power going so the half finished cyborgs don't die. He is also in love with her mother who left to go to Earth 6 years ago. Mom said she couldn't fix the not finished cyborgs and she needed to move on with her life.
Heroine refused to go to earth with Mom.
Then heroine finds out a different cyborg (Malin) might be her biological cyborg father. Heroine is half human and half cyborg. We are told Malin is dead and that Auryn killed him. We don't know why.
Hero is part hawk and wants to mate heroine. At the end hero tells Nighthawk (leader of the EPED) there is a damaged lab. Nighthawk had a spy wasp in her ship and says he already knew, but hero didn't tell him for months. Hero is mad.
We are told the final book in the series will be Nighthawk. A bunch of Nighthawk's employees go to the planet to look at the lab along with heroine's mother. That is how it ends.
I really wanted to like this one, but I just couldn't even finish the book. 80% and I was just over and done with echo. The constant stubbornness just dragged on way to much. The whole story was echo and her hang ups, her character didn't get any better what so ever. And I found myself frustrated to the brink of complete madness over echo and her damn issues.
Book number 9 left me on edge. Even though Echo and Keir end up together the storm that is coming their way may leave destruction like they never seen before in its wake. And now all I want is book 10 to come out as soon as possible. So so many unanswered questions! Can the series truly have a satisfying ending without only o e more boom left. Many Naomi Lucas will decide there are many many more cyborgs who need to meet their perfect mates.😘😘. Keir as the face of the war campaign in its I fancy he was created to look and be a hero to recruit as many as possible for the war effort. He never truly saw a day of battle. He bitter lonely and does not have a high opinion of humanity. Night heart send him on a .mission to see if a secret la hidden on a colony moon is still functional. He thought he'd be in and out see what he needed to and move on with enough money to save his planet Triton. What he found was disgruntled vets, older colonists and a few young people. As soon as he meets Echo his whole world shifts and he's willing to do just about anything to uncover her secrets. Echo one of the few young colonists does everything in her power to take care of all the people around her. She's never been off planet and never plans to leave. She's plan to protect all the people she loves and she'll do whatever is necessary. But she hols secrets neck she is a secret herself and she knows no one must find out including the very handsome cyborg that has just landed on her planet. She can't trust him and she should not be attracted Ted to him. But alas she is everything about him. Intrigues her make her yearn for things she believes she can't have. Just when she thought her secrets might be save a savage storm rips her life apart. NIW she must decide can she trust Keir with her life, her secrets and her heart or will he do like so many others abandon Nd leave her alone to face consequences she should not face alone? You need to r Dax and find out! If you're a fan of the series you like this one! Totally recommend💖🌟💖🌟💖🔥💖💖🌟🔥💖💖🌟🔥💖
⭐ ¿Me gustó? Sí, y mucho. Me gustó porque combina acción y romance sin que uno opaque al otro, y porque los personajes tienen capas emocionales que los hacen creíbles. Además, el ambiente hostil del planeta le da un plus de tensión que mantiene la lectura adictiva.

In this penultimate book in the Cyborg shifters series, we meet Keir, a hawk shifter, and Echo, the mysterious human with secrets left behind on a planet that might just have the answers to all the cyborgs’ questions about their origins. Keir has been sent by Nightheart to try and discover a little about Volun, one of the planets where abandoned labs have been discovered. Keir has no enthusiasm for the job, instead his just looking for information so he can earn enough money begin to restore the planet Titan. Of course, he reckoned without Echo, who not only has her own secrets, but those of others that she is trying to keep safe.
This is an enjoyable addition to the series, and we learn a little about the cyborgs’ history before the war ended. There are some pretty big revelations in the book, leading to what you might call a book-hook type of cliffhanger. An entertaining read for the dark sci-fi romance enthusiast.
I was surprised by how much I liked this book; not merely the content, but the writing style. I've read others by this author and it's an equal blend of hit or miss for content; however, I did not remember this kind of prosaic writing in any of her other books. I find it very appealing, it's almost surreal and painterly in places. Really like that. I also enjoyed the detail of the characters' thoughts during their interaction. Well done. I am fascinated with the concept of a shifter cyborg, very different, especially Keir's particular animal. His non-animal character/personality was also satisfying for me as I personally don't do abuse or degradation, which seems a theme in some of this author's other books.
I long to follow this particular story to its conclusion but I'm not clear on whether there is a future book specifically focusing on these characters or this planet, or if we're moving on to another standalone. I sincerely hope there is more, as I very much enjoyed this read.
Overall I liked both of the mcs and the story. The only thing I found a little off was how quickly the virgin heroine went from not trusting the hero to trusting him with her secrets and then sleeping in bed with him while he was naked. I liked that the hero was also a virgin. I get tired of man whores getting with virgin women. He was also more kind than a lot of the heroes in the previous books.
It did end on a cliffhanger. Spoilers ahead..
Nightheart had tiny robot wasps spying on Keir so he knew about the secret lab with partially completed cyborgs, his mate Echo, and everything. His army (EPED) along with Echo's mom abducted the entire town of Volun. Keir and Echo escaped to his ship and contacted Ghost City for help. (Sanctuary for cyborgs and their mates)
This series can be read as individual books but they definitely have some connectivity that gets more and more interesting with each passing book. This morning
Having read them in order, I’m now really interested to see where this saga is going next. What does Nightheart want with the secret cyborg facility? Why does is seem like Hanna is on the ‘wrong side’? Will those I’m Ghost City align with Keir and Echo? When is the next book coming out?!?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really enjoyed the series so far. The previous one was abit hard to read, but this one flowed very nicely and I thorally enjoyed reading it.
The way the cyborg is decribed and the characters around him is well done. Usually I start figuring out plots before they are revealed, and I must say I was surprised more than once. I honestly cannot wait for the next one, I just really need to see what is going to happen next!
I did not expect the ending! I knew from other reviews that there would be a cliff-hanger, but I still didn't expect what would happen.
I loved Keir and I also loved Echo too. I hate that this book had to end as I wanted to read more with them. And unfortunately as things got interesting the end came and now I need more yet the next book isn't even out yet. Hopefully it will come out soon enough; I'll be looking for it.
So many questions...that is what this story has given me. As with all of the other stories it was a joy to read or listen to, but this on has me wondering what Nightheart is up and should the human and their foe be worried or maybe scared? Can't wait to find out what happens next
I was very excited about this book. But it fell short. It took way to long for them to get all the answers. And the ending just frustrated, not became a moment to anticipate. I could have skipped this one, and just read the next one and missed nothing.
Oh man!!!! It ended too soon. I want to know what Echo and Keir are going to do now. Gosh what an excellent story cliffhanger and all. Keir is a strong alpha male who really loves his woman and Echo wow she was awesome! Overall storyline was incredible and I can't wait to read the next book. I would highly recommend this book and this series.
I've been a lond time fan of Naomi's work and she has never disappointed me in any way with her books. Absolutely love her an dher cyborg series. This book grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go until the last sentence. So happy to finally get to read Kier's story. Eagwrly awaiting the next in this series.
Seriously wow! Have loved and reread all the books in this series, but I'm amazed at how Ms Lucas has continued to craft this world! This book changes everything! I'm so looking forward to the next book.
Please Ms. Naomi!!!!! Tell me you’ve gotten a great head start on the next installment. Tied so much into this book from other series. World building was always good but this surprised me. And excited me. Thank you for the gift. I guess I’m rereading some stuff.
Another fantastic read by Ms. Lucas. She is one of my absolute favorite writers and I will read anything she puts out. The connections her characters make are so charged with emotion. Her writing goes more deep than others in this genre. Always hard to walk away from her books.
There was a lot of twists and turns, kept you guessing until the last few chapters. Some questions answered but more popped up. Was a great story, mystery, drama, action and romance. Wondering where the next book is going to be published. Soon I hope
Keir, like other cyborgs like him, needed to complete his mission for the EPED. What he didn't expect was to meet someone like Echo. What was it about her that he couldn't stop thinking about.
OMG!!!! Pero qué buena historia!!! Más encima, la autora anuncia al final que este es el penúltimo libro de la serie y que va a cerrarla con la historia de Nightheart (¡me voy a comer las uñas mientras espero!)
