Two strong women--who happen to be alpha werewolves--clash in a battle of wills that may just lead to love...if they don't kill each other first.
Lizzie Bennett comes from a big, happy family of strong-willed women...who just happen to be werewolves. This country girl grew up in Sylvania, a little mountain town outside of Pittsburgh populated entirely by wolves. Out of all of the members of her boisterous family, she’s the most stubborn.
But she’s met her match in Darcy Williams.
When Lizzie and Darcy first meet at a charity auction, it’s not so much a spark as an instant inferno. Darcy is sexy as all hell, a smoldering force of nature and a deeply mysterious lady: so Lizzie’s immediately smitten.
Until Darcy opens her mouth. Because this alpha wolf on vacation from L.A. is as snobby as they come. And Lizzie just happens to be an alpha, too.
Two alphas can’t possibly see eye to eye, and two headstrong women who hate each other can’t possibly fall in love...right?
My name is Bridget Essex, and I write about werewolves, vampires and lady knights; about two strong, courageous women who fall deeply in love with one another, living love stories that transcend time. I'm married to the love of my life, author Natalie Vivien.
I'm best known for my Knight Legends series, stories about women knights, real world hi-jinks and love stories that are out of this world. My Sullivan Vampire novellas are a popular series lauded as "TWILIGHT for women who love women," and I have several other series and stand-alone novellas, and I'm always putting out something new. There was a lot going on in this one. With the length of read it ended up being there was just too much going on for me to connect or care with the story.
It was a loose Pride and Prejudice retelling where the characters both sounded like early 20 somethings but also Victorian era aristocrats. The way the characters spoke, I couldn't visualize the stylish rich women described. Whenever the rich werewolves were in a scene, I had a hard time picturing anything, but 1800s men in wool suits.
The other big problem I had was that something that was a big dealbreaker or problem for Lizzie would resolve itself with little to no reason as to why. Im all for an epiphany moment, but there were chapters where Lizzie refused to even acknowledge interest in Darcy, and then all of a sudden the relationship started moving forward.
Finally, the werewolf shifter world/lore was barely described. I am okay taking liberties with what we often consider "traditional" lore, but I do require some explanation and world building in exchange. The addition of shifters just left more questions at the end of the read.
Not for me, but I would recommend giving it a try for yourself if you are a paranormal romance fan. If you don't mind letting go of a few details here and there, you might have fun with it.
Liaise from the East meets Darcy from the West! And heads roll so to speak. A charity run by a group of ladies to help others kicked out of their warm homes for following their their heart. A group from L.A. meet for at the bar to help out. What follows is a Alpha from the East meets the Alpha from the West. Unfortunately for the Darcy the Alpha from the west she has never wanted anything and refused to bow now now. But times change, people change and eventually Darcy changes. Enjoy! Nicely written story. Thank you for entertaining me.
All I can say about this amazing novel is it captured me heart and soul from 1st page to last. I now love LOL Lesbian werewolves and the writer is a gifted story teller and a huge fan of the movie Pride and Prejudice I am wondering if Kiera Knightly will be available for the movie. I don't have any credentials to review books, but I loved this novel. TY Amanda.
This book had so much potential and wasted it on unexplained insta love.
I loved all the characters though, it just a shame how the main relationship turned out, following the path of all the other relationships developing throughout this book. I get they had a connection, but that much? And we barely got to know enough about Darcy.
Also the shooting thing that got completely brushed off and forgotten about. The main conflict should have revolved around George I stead, she was such a well written hinderance that was put on the reserves until late minute.
If a "Pride and Prejudice" retelling with lesbian werewolves sounds good to you, then you'll enjoy this! It's exactly what it promises to be, in Essex's sweet, happy-ending style. This is a quick, easy read that leaves you feeling good.
I loved this book it flowed seamlessly the main characters chemistry was hot passionate loving heartfelt there story held together perfectly congratulations
It was alright. I liked the fantastical premise but there were too many storylines happening at once. I would have liked to see those pared down and the ones that were left fleshed out.
Looking for a sweet, sexy paranormal romance to match the summer heat? Look no farther! Bridget has done it again. Very much enjoyed this novel and highly recommend :)
I didn't like that this was told in 1st-person point of view. It kind of took away from the story being told between Lizzie and Darcy and made me more focused on Lizzie, and I know this is her story, but I'd rather it be set up, at least for this kind of romance, in a 1st-person limited point of view. It's just a lot less distracting than it was when it is told completely being seen through Lizzie's mind. Everything we see, the reader's, is seen through Lizzie's view and all of her thoughts, almost like a journal, are also seen. The story is well done itself, but I couldn't get over the fact that I was in her head and seeing it from that lonely perspective really sucked some of the air of the story for me.
Re-reading this in 2025: I do think the story could've been a bit better if it flipped between both characters and was in the third person and not first. First person is great for some things, especially mystery and suspense, but not so much for a supernatural romance like this.
