This book is such a great follow-up to the first book and could also be a stand-alone. Samantha goes into detail about her wedding and the events surrounding it. The way she shares her thoughts makes you think you are there with her. Well written.
Many thanks to the author Samantha Kannan for sending me an Advance Copy of the book! Rating: 4.7⭐ A New Journey 2 picks up just where the first book ends. Jurnee and Anooj now figure out a long distance relationship and navigate their cultural differences, leading to their wedding. I found the starting slightly rocky but the book became better and better as I went in. Samantha's descriptions were brilliant like in the first book and she had me chuckling at some of her observations. She narrates the experience very beautifully, showing the excitement, anxiety and the medley of emotions felt by brides, especially when marrying thousands of miles away amidst strangers. She uses very simple language with a bit of colloquialism thrown in to narrate her story and so the book felt short and crisp. To sum it up, this was a very light and fun read for me. On a side note, it felt very endearing and kind of refreshing to view my own state from the perspective of someone relatively new to the place. I find her liking for Mysore Pak and Dosas very sweet :D
Such a fun read! A young American girl falling in love with India and the Indian culture.
Describing her traditional South Indian wedding with all the elaborate rituals, and feeling sad that she had no family with her - poignant! I especially loved the way she describes concentrating on her Marudhani ( Henna) designs on her toes to keep her calm!
Beautiful read. Highly recommended. The way the author explained about the cultural differences is really relatable and this book definitely gives ppl more exposure on what India is
