My past was a legacy of scars, some visible but most unseen.
His hands came up to frame my face, his expression fierce. “I will chase you into any darkness, Adalynne. There’s nothing that can separate us again.”
“What’s past is past, Adalynne. Leave it there. We can’t change it, but we can find our own future.”
“But broken things can be fixed. The scars left behind are proof that, yeah, I was broken. But I also healed.”
Nikolai Dashkov was a man who would bathe the world in gasoline and smile as he lit the match to protect the ones he loved. And by some miracle, I was still one of those people.
If there was one person I would subjugate myself for, it was my mate.
I might be an Alpha of the first pack of shifter wolves ever recorded, and I might command thousands, but there was one person who would always ultimately rule me.
“I will always be your home, sweetheart. I promise, I’ll always be here waiting for you.”I love how Nikolai was so protective and exacted vengeance on her behalf without hesitation. I really appreciated the conversations they had around consent and loved how Nik is very situationally aware. I will say, one of my gripes with the book is that Nik and Adalynne weren’t really around each other often one-on-one, and when they were, there were a lot of conversations expressing guilt for how things happened; I wish there were more conversations about getting to know each other in the now versus rehashing what happened in the past.
Nikolai, for all his dominance and ferocity, was always gentle with me. Always patient. Always understanding. In fact, this felt more of a story of Addie’s healing than it did of their relationship/romance. That’s partially because there were other plotlines happening as well. (Tbh, Lulu and Dimitri were the stars of the show for me!)
“You’ve ruined me for all others, Adalynne,” he whispered, “and I would have it no other way.”
“I like this. You said it means,” I wrinkled my nose, trying to remember, “love, hope, and destiny, right?”Again, I LOVE THE DIMITRI/LULU CRUMBS! I have a feeling that their story might be my favorite one yet…
“I said that’s what it stands for,” he murmured. “Not what it says.”
My gaze lifted to his. “Okay, so what does it actually say?”
“Adalynne,” he breathed, watching me closely.
