⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Savage (stand-alone). Fate brings two lonely souls together. To find solace they must dig through tragic pasts, secrets & a mystery!

“I don’t think she was trying to fix you, Brochan, because you’re not broken; you’re just bent.”

Savage (stand-alone) is the unlikely romance between two lonely souls, Scottish hitman and heir Brochan McIntyre and American artist Elizabeth Danton, Lizzie.

Neglect and abuse marred their upbringings. Brochan turned into a recluse forgotten in the shadows and shunned by his town. Lizzie lives a lonely, albeit successful existence, as an artist.

When fate brings them together their attraction is instantaneous the sex phenomenal. But before they can move forward they must sort through painful pasts, betrayal, lies, secrets, prejudices in a quest for truths.

Told from dual POVs, spanning decades, with a dark fairytale feel it’s a chance at love and healing for Brochan and Lizzie who had settled for lives in solitaire. It ends with truth, love and forgiveness and an epilogue five years into the future.

”There’s a beast inside me. It’s part of who I am…the savage part of my nature that allows me to do all the things I’ve done. Being with you has calmed those impulses, but it will come out from time to time. It’s inevitable.”

It’s been several years since I’ve read anything by L.A. Fiore and after having finished SAVAGE, I know I won’t be waiting that long to read her next book. She is going on my automatic must-read list! This story felt like a dark fantasy even though there really aren’t any supernatural beings in it. I loved the way the author's writing paints a beautiful picture of the landscape of Scotland, it added to the dark and yet wildly romantic ambiance.

Lizzie Danton is a well-known and hugely successful artist. Her life would seem glamorous to most on the outside looking in, but she grew up in the most horrible of circumstances. Her mother was a conniving and despicable woman who only ever showed Lizzie cruelty and mentally abused her at every turn. When her father left them both, Lizzie’s mother dropped her off at a boarding school and pretty much abandoned her from then on. At the boarding school, she suffered even more at the hands of an abusive headmistress and another student who took great pleasure in bullying poor Lizzie whenever she had the chance. Fast forward to present day, Lizzie finds out that a woman she never knew existed, her great aunt, Brianna, has left her beautiful cottage and the acreage of land it sits on to Lizzie in her will. At first, she is hesitant to go to Scotland because of the connection to her mother but something inside her has her determined to learn more about her deceased Aunt.

As soon as Lizzie arrives in Scotland, she feels a sense of belonging. For the first time she feels like she has a place to call home, and when she meets her Aunt’s husband she quickly learns that she had a heart of pure gold and it brings some peace to Lizzie. While she goes about touring the town her Aunt called home, she runs into a handsome but seemingly dangerous man who is feared by most of the townsfolk. But Lizzie isn’t scared in the least as she doesn’t believe in gossip and is one to form her own opinions instead of being influenced by others.

Brochan McIntyre isn’t the most law-abiding citizen and he pretty much keeps to himself in his lush and expansive castle. What he has chosen as his profession would make him out to be a monster to most people but once you learn of the sad and horrifying life he was born into, you can’t help but feel your heart break for him. Brochan’s mother died during childbirth and instead of showering him with unconditional love, his demented father acted with nothing but pure hatred towards him. There were adults in his life that loved him unconditionally and did what they could to protect Brochan from his father’s wrath over the years but the damage had been done and it turned him into a cold and detached killer.

As soon as Lizzie and Brochan meet, you can feel that sizzling chemistry they share. Brochan has never felt anything for a women before but something about Lizzie pulls him to her like a moth to a flame. She is the first person to truly see him because she is a kindred spirit. Once the romance takes off between them the story gets incredibly steamy but there is always danger lurking behind every corner as the two seem to have countless enemies who mean to destroy any happiness they have a shot at.

Will their pasts continue to haunt them? Is it possible for Lizzie and Brochan to live ”happily ever after” when there are so many people out there who want to see them fail?

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 4.5
Angst: 3
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

SAVAGE: THE AWAKENING OF LIZZIE DANTON: is a dark standalone novel by L.A. Fiore, spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ In this we meet Lizzie Danton and Brochan McIntyre

This kicks starts off with Brochan, the day he arrives in this world, his mother dying during childbirth, a father blaming him for her death, over the years we see the terrible, unforgivable acts his father dishes out on his son. Each year that goes by the hate intensifies, the punishments escalate more each time. Your heart hurts for this small defenceless child that only has his father's servants and a teacher that goes above and beyond what many others were to scared to voice.

Then we meet Elizabeth (Lizzie), also raised in an unloving, un-nurtured environment, sent to a private boarding school at the age of ten, out of sight, out of mind the only thing that kept her going is the enjoyment she gets out of painting.

To present day. Lizzie has just learn’t that she’s inherited a cottage in Scotland by an Aunt she knew nothing about, just another thing her mother kept from her. On a whim she goes off to Scotland to lay claim to her heritance with a saddened heart of missing out on getting to know her Aunt, but Scotland hooked it's claws into her and she had found a place that she could finally call home.

Brochan is shrouded in mystery some folks in town whisper that he's a werewolf others are more clued on to what he does for a living, but all steer clear of him. He's reserved, mysterious and undeniably dangerous.

As a side note: this isn't a paranormal novel.

I loved these two, apart I didn't really connect to them individually but together they touched my soul, the feels kicked in, her quirky talks to herself to his dark scowling side, just worked perfectly.

In the beginning I did struggle to get into this, it wasn’t until Lizzie touched down on Scottish soil where the magic began. I think the author did a brilliant job bringing Scotland alive, seeing everything through Lizzie’s eyes, experiencing everything firsthand, the language, the strange foods, the countryside, everything was told in such graphic detail that if I closed my eyes I was taken on a mystical journey. Definitely a highly recommended one click come release day, this is a journey you will want to go on.

descriptionI am going to start by saying this was a really pretty book. The little graphics before each chapter were a nice touch. That said it was also a really enjoyable book. The writing was fantastic. It had a bit of an atmospheric fairytale quality to it. The pace was OK. I found it maybe a smidge too long and slow at times. The plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. The mystery aspect was good, but I think it could have been a bit more fleshed out. Along with Brochan's profession. I loved the setting (Scotland). It was heartbreaking at times. It was feel good at times. It made me cry. It made me smile. There wasn't any OW/OM drama, but there was an OW sex scene that takes place before the hero and heroine meet. That type of thing can be iffy for me. It depends on how picky I am being and if the OW causes problems going forward. In this case, I wasn't overly bothered by it. I didn't find it particularly angsty. The sex scenes were fairly hot but not erotica level detailed. The secondary characters were intriguing and added some good depth to the story.

description

Both the main characters were amazing. I ADORED Lizzie. She was smart. She was a fighter. She was feisty. She had a huge heart and accepted everything that was Brochan without censor or hesitation. She was honestly one of the best heroines I have read all year. Brochan was a bit more complicated. He had that sexy, brooding thing down to a science. At times I wanted to smack him so hard, and at other times I wanted to squeeze the stuffing out of him. That said, I understood why he behaved the way he did, and I couldn't help falling in love with him myself. Both these characters backgrounds will break your heart but that made them perfect for each other and the ending that much sweeter. Lastly, this was all wrapped up in a wonderful epilogue that will leave you all warm and fuzzy and with a smile on your face. Nothing left to say, this one gets two solid thumbs up from yours truly.description

I've never read this author before, and I've enjoyed this read a lot!

Do you like tortured/damaged heroes? Then this one might be fore you. Definitely a dark read.

The beginning sucked me in right away and it was so heartbreaking that I definitely sobbed a bit.

Now, I did also fall asleep while listening to this audiobook somewhere around the half way mark lol. But it was a tiny tiny ... may be a 5 minute nap. :D

All kidding aside, I loved the book but the ending was a bit over the top killer fiction for me, but then again, I don't normally read any mafia or crime books, so take this note from me with a grain of salt!

This book should really be titled The Awakening of Lizzie and Brochan. Seriously. Because these two people came to new realizations as the story unfolded. They both suffered traumatic childhoods that shaped them into the people they were and unfortunately, the pain they suffered left something broken in each of them. But they were classic. Perfect in their imperfection. And in my opinion, these two were absolutely perfect for each other.

Both characters grew up unhappy, unwanted, and unloved by their parents. Well, for the most part (one parent did the damage to each). Circumstances, fate or kismet if you will is what led them to finding one another. Lizzie was an artist, a painter. Brochan was an artist as well, in a way. An assassin by trade, there was a certain art to what he did. Their chemistry was INSANE!! But what really grabbed me about this couple was the fight within them for and against each other. And when the battle was finally won, the beauty that was revealed was unparalleled.

I laughed so many times. Brochan has an adorable quirkiness about him that helped win my heart. I cried. Oh man, did I ever cry. Okay, I’m kinda lying. I don’t cry so no real tears fell, but I definitely felt some stinging on the backs of my eyes. But what I got out of all of this was a full heart. You know when you read a book and your heart is so happy it feels like it wants to expand right out of your chest? Yeah, that’s how I felt in the end.

One of the things I most admire about L.A. Fiore, one of the main reasons why she is at the top of my list of fave authors, is that each and every one of her books takes you on a real journey into a world of the unknown (hey, I got a free trip to Scotland out of this). Not one of her stories is like the other. Each is original, insightful, and profound. Each story has touched me in so many different ways and I’ve been able to identify myself in each one of her characters. Go figure that I could see a bit of me in a killer such as Brochan, but I did. That’s the power of Fiore’s words. She’s a master storyteller. A magician of literary spells. I’m a captive of her artistry and I’m not interested in breaking my chains.

ARC

I always get a little apprehensive when It comes to a fairytale retelling BUT Savage was everything I never knew I needed.
Growing up Beauty and The Beast was one of my favourite fairytale and Savage is like a grown up version of it. I loved this book!

It's so cliché to keep going on and on about loving a book but I swear...this one was magic!

Brochan (pronounced Brogan) is a loner who lives in a castle in Scotland. Lizzie is an artist who lives in New York City. Fate brings them together and BOOM! we get to read the epic fairytale retelling of a modern beauty and the beast. Savage is dark, it's intense, it's hypnotic and damaged in the most beautiful way.

Saying Brochan is intense is an understatement. He is broody, kinda temperamental and a loner. Lizzie is innocent yet strong, she's inquisitive and optimistic. Both are talented and damaged in their own way.

I loved this book...from the Moors of Scotland to Scottish superstition and folklore.
From a Castle with a dark and twisted past to a love story that will make your heart flutter one minute and skip a beat the next. Savage is beautiful and has a surprisingly unexpected climax that will leave you speechless.

First I just have to say that this cover is amazing! Those pale blue eyes are hypnotizing. I would buy this book just for that cover.

L.A. Fiore has such a gift of taking you to a new place and creating magic like no one else. I saw it in her book "Waiting for the One" when she took us to Maine and when she took us on a high sea adventure in "Elusive." She works that magic once again in "Savage" by taking us to beautiful Scotland.

Her imagery in the landscape, the castles, the small town feel with all the wonderful small town characters really made this story stand out. But that's just the small piece to this story. What really stands out are our main characters, Brochan and Lizzie.

Brochan and Lizzie have had such a sad introduction into life. Learning their tale of what you can only call survival was heartbreaking, but also inspiring. The things these two have had to overcome would crumble most people. There really is nothing better than to read about two people overcome such odds and finding true love in one another.

L.A. Fiore really has done it again! ARC provided by NetGalley.

This author never ceases to amaze me with her vivid storytelling and her ability to capture the essence of these one of a kind characters and this book was no different. It was unique, haunting, with just a touch a sexiness that will leave you wanting more.

Brochan isn’t your ordinary guy and to say that his childhood was rough, would be the biggest understatement of the year. He’s cruel because he has to be in order to maintain a level of distance in his world and expressing anything more than that, would be a problem. Meeting the new woman who ‘s about to turn his world upside down is something that this cold and calculating man never saw coming.

With a haunting background and unforgettable characters, Savage will be sure to take you on a crazy ride and you’ll be swept away with the magical feeling of being in Scotland. I loved that Lizzie was this strong female character and she knew what she wanted in life. Her past was filled with so much hurdles and heartbreak but it didn’t break her a person and I loved that about her. Brochan was a little bit more complicated and harder to read but the one thing that was clear about him was he protected his own and getting in his way, would only have you in a body bag.

If you’re looking for a magical story with all of the makings of a fairy tale,, then this one is for you.

top pick

One of my TOP READS of 2017! SAVAGE was absolute AMAZING in every single way! This is only the second book I’ve read by Ms. Fiore and I gotta say, she’s becoming a FAVORITE of mine, for sure! This beautifully crafted, ominous romance had my heart soaring from the very first page. Lizzie and Brochan are two of the most wonderfully complex characters I’ve ever come across and I fell for them INSTANTLY!

"I’m not convinced you’re a werewolf, but you are definitely the scariest predator in these woods.”

“You would do well to remember that.”

SAVAGE brought me back to the days where I fell in love with fairytales. This was just a darker, more delicious version of those. Think Beauty and the Beast mixed with a little bit of Little Red Riding Hood. Throw in some intense romantic suspense and tons of angst, and you got yourself a complete WINNER in my book! This is definitely a romance that will snag your attention and keep you hostage until the very last page has turned. I was HOOKED, ADDICTED, CAPTIVATED, and MESMERIZED by the characters, the storyline, the ominous/darker vibe throughout. Once I started reading, I just couldn’t put it down!

SAVAGE is definitely an edgier romance that is equally suspenseful and sexy! A truly remarkable and breathtaking love story that will have you craving the unique and dark in no time.

This story was so much fun to write. It's a contemporary romance with a suspense twist, but it has a dark fairy tale feel to it. Brochan (pronounced Brogan) is a loner who lives in a castle in Scotland. Lizzie is an artist who lives in New York City. Fate brings them together. The town calls him a monster, but he becomes Lizzie's salvation. Two damaged souls who find their own version of happily ever after. I love these two.

The wording needs to be edited better. The wording that being used is not enough to build up the tension nor to highlight the story. it feels bit flat and 1 dimensional.

The idea of the story is promising. Hinting Beauty and the beast theme. And choosing Scotland as backdrop is good idea.

3.5 Modern Highlander Stars!

This was a bit different....Brochan McIntyre is a modern Highlander Laird with a twist, he’s also a dark broody hitman. Brochan is definitely a troubled soul, he was sorely mistreated and abused by his bitter, angry father who blamed Brochan for his mother’s death since she died during childbirth.

Because of the way he was treated by his father he naturally had anger management problems growing up. He eventually meets Mac (his “Hitman Mentor”) who teaches him a different way to get rid of his anger.....thing is he is selective about who he’ll eliminate, he’ll only eliminate those who are less then stellar citizens. He has no conscience, no remorse, and no feeling for anything or anyone except the couple who worked for his father, the former Laird, who shielded him as a youngster when they could, they grew to be the only parents he knew and a former teacher who took an interest and was the only person in their small town who ever confronted his father on his behalf.

 photo PicsArt_1515055631867_zpsq4sofffy.jpg

Lizzie Danton is a relatively successful artist who like Brochan was sorely abused by her mother who was a cold ruthless shrew who eventually dumped Lizzie in a horrid boarding school at the age of ten, moved out of state and forgot she had a daughter for many years. Unfortunately, Lizzie’s father a high powered Attorney was not in her life other than to pay bills and send her a card twice a year. Fast forward to present day, Lizzie learns she is sole beneficiary of her Great Aunt Brianna, who she never knew existed. Lizzie feeling overwhelmed with emotions that she had family other than the parents who didn’t want her, travels to Scotland and falls in love with the beautiful cottage and countryside acreage her aunt bequeathed to her. As soon as Lizzie arrives in Scotland she feels at peace and has a feeling of finally belonging.

As soon as Brochan and Lizzie meet you feel the sparks, the chemistry, and the longing, it was like two halves finally becoming whole. Unfortunately, Brochan, despite the overwhelming feelings he has for Lizzie, he pushes her away....but, he can’t stay away. Now it seems old enemies of both Brochan and Lizzie are out to destroy them!

Final thoughts: All-in-all it was a good read, the characters are likable and honestly who doesn’t love a tortured hero? It’s captivating and well written, and a surprise bond was formed that I didn't expect, but, was happy to see. So why only 3.5 Stars? Some things just didn’t mesh for me...but that’s all I’ll say on that so as to not give anything away.

*This is listed as a “Dark Read” but honestly the only thing I found dark about it was the parental abuse (yes, hideous but most of it was told not shown), I absolutely do NOT do dark reads so for me to even read this book you know it’s not to bad!

I enjoy this author’s writing, but this book wasn’t my kind of enjoyment.

I feel uncomfortable when they write OTT cruel parents, I get that not everyone had a happy childhood, but some tropes are just OTT dark and depressive for my taste. And especially when they kill their parents…

I don’t like when they bash OWs. A male, who called OW a whore, is never my type of man.
I like dark and broody, but I can’t and don’t want to cope with jerks.

She was of course very different and won his heart. Cool for her I guess.
Love and acceptance are amazing, but when your man confirmed to be a hitman and you’re like "great, hon, it doesn’t bother me much", I’m like "seriously?"

I wish the heroines in books stopped forgetting to take their birth control pills. It’s really not hard, e.g. you could set up daily alarm/reminder on your mobile. Just saying…

Overall it was a decent read, just not quite for me…

I don’t know how to rate this book…
Hell, I don’t know why I have read it.
I just needed something different, I guess.

***********************************************

Well, the book is well-written and it is captivating. It flows and keeps your interest.

The connection between the hero and the heroine is good and there is no cheating etc. They have an amazing emotional and physical bond. The passionate scenes are all written very successfully.

The background to the story is also magnificent: Scotland with its moors, castles and all.

"What I am still struggling with" is the whole concept of the book: trying to justify murder!

I know things aren’t always black and white in life and there are gray areas but taking justice in your own hands and enjoying torturing and killing people (even if they are bad people) and making this your profession – well, that I couldn’t embrace it at all.

And the way the heroine was OK with the hero being a hit-man, how easily she accepted it, finding reasons for him before he explained his own reasons – well, that was weird.

So many people accepted it the way it was. Even the heroine’s father!

***********************************************

To balance their world, the writer makes both the hero and the heroine’s childhood a different kind of nightmare and towards the end of the book the writer gives the heroine a reason to kill someone so that we think they are a good match. Well, I just didn't need her to kill someone, too!

***********************************************

The heroine was reading Red Riding Hood when she was a child and as her mother was always being cruel to her, she wished “the big bad wolf” to come and save/protect her from her mother.

Now as an adult, she treats the hero as her “big bad wolf”.

I would have felt better if she’d had trouble in accepting what he did but she was so OK with it.

Even when she asked him to quit that life when she was pregnant, she said she would understand if he didn’t want to, emphasizing she didn’t want to lose him.

***********************************************

I have read books before in which there is murder, but trying to normalize it all as this book did made it more difficult for me to accept it.

The following dialogue is an example of my discomfort.

“He said you were a hitman.” It was his lack of reaction that twisted my stomach into a knot. “It’s true?”

He said nothing, but it was an affirmation. I was mildly alarmed at the revelation. My only reference for hitmen was from movies and television. Regardless, I never thought I’d be sitting across from one. Knowing that when he left on business after I was sick he was off killing someone was definitely unnerving. Even being unnerved, I didn’t feel fear because this was Brochan. The same man who had nursed me back to health, had let me use his lap as a pillow, had put on his kilt and tossed a caber in some sense for me. In the time we’d spent together, I was learning there were many layers to him. A hitman was only one. He didn’t take his eyes off me, challenging me or waiting for me to run away.

“How did you become a hitman?” Surprise flashed in those pools of blue.

“That’s it?”

“Were you expecting me to run screaming from the room?”

“At least cross yourself. The folks in town all do when I’m near.”

“Is it jarring to hear you’re a hired killer? Yes. Am I in shock? Probably. But killing is what you do, not who you are.”

“Did you just say that?”

“Would you prefer that I run screaming from the room?”

“It would be more understandable than your easy acceptance.”

“I’ve seen ugly too. Maybe because I have I understand better than most what we do to cope with that ugly.”

He finished his whisky then stood. “I’m not sure if you’re a curse or a gift.”

***

I had thought I’d be more freaked out this morning, having the night to process that the man I had been keeping company with was a killer. I wasn’t freaked. In fact, I found him even more fascinating. I understood now why the townsfolk thought he was a werewolf; he was beautiful and deadly.

***

He was elegant and yet I knew he was lethal; it was a seriously sexy combination.

***

“There’s a beast inside me. It’s part of who I am…the savage part of my nature that allows me to do all the things I’ve done. Being with you has calmed those impulses, but it will come out from time to time. It’s inevitable.”

***********************************************

Apart from this issue, I loved the couple together. They had a passionate love between them. Sometimes it was really sizzling hot. I believed in their connection and in their love even though I couldn’t understand it sometimes.

We didn’t meet; we crashed into each other. Mouths fused and bodies entwined. His fingers dug into my thighs, lifting me. My legs wrapped around his waist like a vice. He fisted my hair, tilting my head to kiss me deeper. I yanked on his tee.

***

Her taste was still on my tongue and for the first time I regretted the path I had taken.

***********************************************

And in the very end, he decides to retire – no worries! 😊

“I’m ready to cut out the ugly too because I’m surrounded with beauty.”

***********************************************

As a last word, I can say that without the “murders and justification of them all” in it, this would be one hell of a good book, a solid 4 or 5 stars for me but now, for the reasons I mentioned above, I don’t feel like giving it more than 3 stars despite the good writing.

THE STORY:

Lizzie is an American artist travelling to Scotland to claim an inheritance from an aunt she never knew existed. Nothing could have ever prepared her for what she would find.

Brochan a Scottish hitman made a promise to Lizzie’s aunt before she died, Little did he know at the time how that promise would change his life forever. Fate has brought them together but their traumatic pasts threaten to keep them apart.

This is a story about two lonely souls on a journey of self-discovery finding light within each other’s darkness and turning it into something beautiful.

MY THOUGHTS:
I loved the Scottish setting of this story, reading about the beautiful highlands and rich heritage of Scotland added to the intrigue of the book.

Lizzie his a very likable heroine, she is kind, courageous and compassionate despite her shitty upbringing.

Brochan is a broody, sexy and dominant and did I mention he’s a Scot. He is the perfect alpha male bad boy persona with his mysterious and intimidating blue eyes and large stature.

The gradual growth and development of the main characters was well paced. There is a strong message about making peace with the past, opening yourself up to possibilities and of love and happiness.

This was a captivating read, I was invested from the very beginning and loved the originality of the story. It has a great HEA and epilogue.

MY RATINGS: (All ratings are out of 5)
HERO RATING: 5
HEROINE RATING: 5
BLUSH RATING: 2
ROMANCE RATING: 4
DARKNESS RATING: 3
PLOT RATING: 4
OVERALL: 4.5 Blushing Stars

DO I RECCOMEND THIS BOOK?
Yes, I loved the Scottish heritage I heard throughout the book, it added to the intrigue. This is unique story and L.A Fiore is a master storyteller.

Narrated by: Tracy Marks & Aaron Shedlock
Length: 10 hrs and 16 mins

This is a long audio book but it’s well paced. Tracy is one of my favourite narrators so she is easy to listen to. Aaron is a new narrator for me, I struggled at first with his terrible Scottish accent but the further I got through the audio the less it become an issue.

Characters matched to characters: 5/5
AUDIO RATING: 4/5

I had to slow it down...

****4.5 Stars****

I absolutely LOVED Savage BUT...I couldn't understand a bloody word he said for the first few chapters. OK, I could understand a few words but that was only after I rewound it and listened to it again. Aaron Shedlock's voice is so bloody deep and his Scottish burr was so well done, that I'm convinced Mr Shedlock is Scottish...or he was possessed by a Scotsman while narrating this story. Turns out, all I needed to do was slow down my speed. This also helped with listening to Tracy Marks narration as well. Funny thing...my last audiobook was narrated by Ms Marks and I didn't enjoy it, this one...SHE'S A STAR!!

Savage is my kind of dark...ish. I'm an absolute sucker for a wounded hero with a prickly outer shell. Brochan's history was brutal and it broke my heart when the one who should have loved him the most, was the one who hurt him the most. This brutal history has turned him away from relationships that make him feel anything. When the only woman who stood up for him at the worst time of his life is dying, he makes a promise at her death bed to be nice to her niece when she comes to visit. Brochan is not convinced he's capable of nice, but he'll give it a try for this niece who he's never even met before.

Lizzie's parents...I mean the sperm donor and breeder, are not nice people and made sure that she knew she was unwanted. Years being bullied and abused in boarding school has left Lizzie with her own version of brutal scars. When Lizzie finds out that her horrible mother had a sister that she never knew of, she's devastated to only learn of her after the aunt passed. A trip to Scotland gives her a chance to find out more about her unknown family. Most of the people she meets are lovely but there's this one man who's captured her attention...and it's rumoured he's a monster.

Savage was thoroughly entertaining. The characters came to life for me and the storyline held my attention from the first word until the last. This is a story about two people who have faced evil and dealt with it in their own ways. Brochan used the darkness inside him to make bad people suffer. Lizzie's darkness comes through in the beautiful art she creates.

There were plenty of steamy scenes and I loved that we experienced Brochan's change from emotionless sex to a connection with Lizzie. Their relationship was fascinating because of their ability to recognise the darkness in each other. It really was dark at times, so dark that a few descriptions of what Brochan is capable of, sent a shiver up my spine. It was pretty gross, actually, but never too much for me to deal with.

If you're looking for a great audio experience and don't mind a visit to the dark side, I highly recommend giving Savage: The Awakening of Lizzie Danton, a go.

I was intrigued by the blurb and thought, hey this kind of sounds like a fairy tale with some sexiness BUT this was beyond that!! The Prologue captured my full attention and I got lost in L.A. Fiore's mystical words!!

Despite what people thought about Brochan, I gradually fell in love with him because the monster everyone pictured him to be was just an outer appearance and not the TRUE Brochan!! Despite the childhood he had I knew that deep down he still had some goodness and beauty to share with someone.

Elizabeth's (Lizzie) young life was no better than Brochan yet she always found a way to look at the beauty rather than the darkness. I cried for the torment that she had to endure not only in the hands of her evil mother but others that have power over her.

Lizzie & Brochan were similar in that they were both broken souls that suffered the consequences of someone else's decision. And as hard as Brochan tries to deny the attraction he has towards Lizzie he knows that she is someone that can bring him to his knees. Instead of being scared Lizzie courageously plows through Brochan's walls because she sees the beauty he has hidden behind those walls.

I cannot tell you how much I FLOVED this story and how unique it was. I was floored and blown away because to me it was so different and just breathtaking! I was saddened when it came to an end and may I say that I would love more on them !! Thank you for such a unique and breathtaking story. One of my favorite reads of 2017!!!~Kara, 6 Stars

Woot! Apparently I’m in the mood for crazy story like this lately 😬😝.

Our H and had tragic upbringing, they had been abused by the people who supposed to love them for years. A nasty ones 😫

When they were grownups, he end up as a hitman and she became an artist.

Plenty plot holes 😂 in this story, I know, I know 😂 but it suck me in and won’t stop listening until the end. So yeah I enjoyed it.

Oh, I listened the audiobook version, not too happy with the female narrator but the male narrator was ok!

Savage is a thrilling remake of the telling of Beauty and the Beast, of a story between a dark and mysterious stranger and a sweet and passionate young woman who has come to Scotland looking to connect with her past.

What a whopper of a romance and I have to say that this is one of the books I have read so far this year that made the bigeest impression on me. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast retellings and this is one of the best contemporary ones ever written and the narrator's for this story were in true form for this one. I just loved the dual POV that we have in this story.

We begin with scenes from both the past of our hero and heroine. When Brochan McIntyre was born, his mother died giving birth to him and his father blamed him for it and treated him horribly when he was a child with only the house servants that truly showed him love and raised him but he ended up becoming an hardened man.
There’s a beast inside me. It’s part of who I am…the savage part of my nature that allows me to do all the things I’ve done. Being with you has calmed those impulses, but it will come out from time to time. It’s inevitable.

Then we have  Elizabeth Danton, Lizzie . Lizzie's mother was cruel, and only gave birth to her to keep herself with money and married to one of the richest men in the states. When he learned her true motives he divorced her and Lizzie was forced to attend a boarding school with cruel punishments but Lizzie didn't allow the uglynest of her childhood to dictate who she becomes. Lizzie ends up becoming one of the most talented artists and is infamous. But when she learns that she had a relative that left her an estate, she heads over to Scotland, a land she falls in love with and a stranger she is intrigued by.

Now Brochan and Lizzie couldn't be more different from each other. Brochan is rumored to be  a shifter wolf....dangerous but intriguing who works as an assasin. But Lizzie is drawn to Brochan, he makes her laugh and shows her a beautiful world in the wilds of Scotland. We see that there is much more to Brochan, and seeing the way that Lizzie changes his outlook on life, where he starts to know what its like to truly love someone and to be loved, and seeing how he fights for Lizzie in the best ways.

I truly had a blast seeing these two come together here, and both are kindred spirits. Having horrible childhoods, but unlike Brochan, Lizzie had NO one that loved her growing up. Everyone she knew was cruel until she met her agent who became her best friend. So we see how much, learning about her history and the woman who left her the estate means to her. I truly ADORED Lizzie so much, because she has so much inner strength you admire instantly. She doesn't let anything bad change who she is and what she wants to become and I love artist heroines.

This is a true tale of love and healing and forgiveness and becoming who you are meant to become and learning to live in the 'moment" and not taking anything good in your life for granted. Definitely a beautifully written tale that speaks to the heart!! A REMARKABLE STORY FOR THE WIN

3.5 solid stars.

This was not the book I was expecting but it was an enjoyable journey.

The blurb read like this was a dark tale. In the "dark" literature category, this story read lighter than most and that may have to do with the author's style. She never really delves all that deeply into the events that broke her characters before they find each other. She goes in detail about what happened but I felt removed from those events even though the book is first person dual POV.

Most of the book takes place in Scotland and that was enjoyable.

This was my first book from this author and I will probably venture and read some more of her work.

SAVAGE by L. A. Fiore is the story of Brochan and Lizzie.
Please make sure you understand that this is a Dark Romance and is not for everyone. I happen to like them and this was a really good one. I was happy to find this book.
Both Brochan and Elizabeth (Lizzie) started with a hard and sad life. Their lives never really got better I think until they meet. They both had so much to overcome from their past and present. But when these two halves come together this made into a great dark romance story.
Ms. Fiore writing is new to me but after reading this book I hope to find more of her books.

LA Fiore knows how to write! Gosh, her stories are sublime and so addicting. Savage was an absolutely breathtaking read. From start to finish, L.A. paints incredibly vivid pictures that make you feel like you're actually in the old castles on the rolling hills of Scotland. Once I started, it was hard to stop.

Savage starts out on a brutal way, it's devastating and sets a tone that flows throughout the book. That deep, intense beginning sets up for a beautiful, yet broken story of darkness, haunting pasts and unknown futures. Savage is not a paranormal romance. Not at all. The overall feel is dark, mysterious and loaded with suspense. It's also wickedly hot and hella sexy.

Brochan, our hero, is broken, yet strong, intense and all alpha! He's wicked, dark and dirty. I loved him. His connection with Lizzie, out heroine, is off the chain and they sizzle so damn hot.

L.A. added in a perfect side cast of characters that built this story up in the most brilliant way. Everything about this story worked, so, so well. It was a masterpiece from beginning to end. I've very quickly become a huge fan of L.A.s writing and this book is a testament to how good she really is.

Every time I need to review a L.A. Fiore book, I can't find the right words.
Wow?
Perfect?
Amazing?
Phenomenal?
English is not my first language, so I'm guessing all the above and so many more that I don't know of. Reading Savage was an absolute joy, a beautiful story about fighting the ugly through beauty. Finding the light in the darkness. Letting the monster become an angelic savior.
Lizzie and Brochan's childhoods were horrible. They were abused, neglected and their only crime was being born. With no sense of belonging, life brings them together, in Scotland. Lizzie is an optimistic artist who believes in change and Brochan – well, he's just the opposite. Together they learn how to fight their demons, and boy those demons are brutal...
Savage is not an ordinary romantic love story. It is a suspenseful fairy tale that you won't be able to stop reading. Every page was another step in Lizzie & Brochan's journey to heal, to love, to believe in good and beautiful things to come…to find a home and family after years of not belonging anywhere.
Thank you, L.A., for another magically story.

This is the first book I've read/listened to by LA Fiore and was so pleasantly surprised! I was hooked by the story right away, even though my heart completely broke at the start for our hero and heroine. This book was emotional and at times painful, but the author balanced it so well with humor and lighter moments. Brochan was the perfect damaged and broken hero. He is all hard edges and darkness until he meets Lizzie, who slowly shows him that there is still light in the world. I loved watching his walls crumble (though reluctantly at first) and seeing him heal. This is a bit darker than the romances I generally read, but I really enjoyed this one. It's hard to believe that LA Fiore got me to fall for such an anti-hero, but fall I did! From the grand gestures to the simple "Aye", I really could not get enough of Brochan and his kilt.

description

The audiobook was absolutely incredible! It added an entirely new layer to the story and Aaron Shedlock and Tracy Marks really hit this one out of the park! Both shined in their performances and Aaron Shedlock especially continues to blow me away with his talent. His Scottish brogue was sexy as hell and had me pretty much like this for most of the story

The epilogue was perfect and left me smiling ear to ear. This definitely won't be my last LA Fiore book!
