It's the end of the nineteenth century. The frontier is ending. The days of the Wild West are over. The Industrial Age is dawning. America has expanded as far as she will go, and it's a time for the country to rise from the ashes of its past conflicts. It's a time for men to figure out who they are, as the world is becoming less savage and more...civilized, calling for a much tamer kind of man; one Jack Johnson isn't suited to conform to. When the world has no need of cowboys anymore, one little boy, who refuses to change with the times, will become the last of a dying breed. Jack grew up in a rich home, with a restless, wild spirit that his family never understood. He is torn between the ideals of his strict but distant father, who has always told him how men ought to behave properly, and the glorious legend of the wild spirit. By the time Jack is a young man, there may be one last need for the cowboy to ride, to counteract a power hungry family, and their out of control son who seeks to obliterate a way of life and supplant it with greed and dominion. Tapping into the family's dark history, this evil son seeks to draw strength from mystical treasures and ancient, occult magic. A deal with the devil may end up waking a dark power that, has lain dormant for too long and now, seeks its vengeance! A tale of gritty, swashbuckling adventure, about the dangerous love affair between a man's soul and the wild. A guns blazing, spirit freeing story of self-discovery, as Jack must figure out who he is, and find the true measure of a man, in order to bring peace to himself and their conflict.
My name is Ryan and I am a lifelong writer but five time novelist. I am a husband and father of five, living in Ontario, Canada.
I ventured into the publishing world in 2013, but I have always been a story teller at heart. At a young age I discovered my love of the movies and just had this urge to write stories and even produce my own movies with all my little buddies. It was just me and my imagination and a video camera back then.
All of my schooling background reflects creative arts in some way or another. I was accepted into the Visual Arts program in high school, which included sketching, painting and sculpting to name a few mediums. While going to school there, I became involved with the Audio/Visual team, which opened up a whole new medium of storytelling to me. It was the end of the nineties and going into the two-thousands which were spawning whole new technological advancements in amateur video production. Because of the opportunities that opened up in video production I fell more in love with the type of medium and really started to focus my efforts in this field. It was fun! It was exciting! When I sat at the computer to either write my amateur scripts or edit a scene we had just filmed, it was sheer freedom! I could create whatever I wanted, despite what I was used to and what every English or Art teacher told me I couldn’t. English class for me, ironically enough (as an aspiring author), was one of those things that I wanted to like but just couldn’t. In theory, English was everything I wanted but I just found myself being bored. There were too many rules. Too many do’s and don’ts. In terms of storytelling, I always considered myself to be a little more unorthodox than the norm. If an artist can’t break the rules, just a little bit, then what’s the point of art?
I’m not one for books set in the past and much less a book that is set in the Wild West, those books aren’t my forte. But reading Wildmen is different. Modern day writing in a not so modern time was definitely different, but it was a good read that talks about a young man finding himself in a desperate time for his exact lifestyle. Jacks character was enjoyable throughout the entire book, with his younger years and early 20s. With a stronger meaning of finding your identity in Christ, I enjoyed reading this book and I would read it again.
