Bailey never meant to impersonate a Coalition general - but when she's pulled into a vortex of conspiracies during a delivery, she can't just walk away from the people who need her.
When Mae's parents summon her back to Gamma-3, she's forced to abandon her seamstressing business in Bradach. Will she fit into her new role in the family business of blackmail?
Corruption abounds in the city. Will they get out before they're exposed?
Another brilliant read, and two more characters that I've fallen hopelessly in love with.
Bailey, the rum runner from Hjarta, is undertaking the biggest job of her life; delivering illegal alcohol to Gamma-3, a planet full of Coalition scum. However, a fake uniform makes her look exactly like another... A Coalition General, Wilhemina Fineglass. When she is mistakenly picked up and distracted from her initial task, she has to lie through her teeth to avoid detection in a snake pit.
Mae, the talented seamstress from Bradach, is the skill behind Bailey's uniform, but when her parents blackmail her to return to Gamma-3 to help them out of debt, Mae and Bailey have to come together to help each other out.
When Ned, the Cricket's navigator, turns up in prison, Emeline, Georgie's sister turns up seemingly devoted to Overseer Allemande, and when the real General Fineglass turns up, there are questions that need answered for both Wilhemina and Bailey.
On to book 5!! I highly recommend this fantastic series.
Of course I loved Deus Ex Mechanic, it set the groundwork and I love seeing the Cricket crew in and out of all these other stories... But I think this story beat even that one as my favorite. Bailey and Mae were sweet, and I was super invested in their stories. Also loved Davey... I've found that I can envision Fletcher's characters better than most and for some reason Davey looked to me like Jeffrey Wright as Beetee in The Mockingjay. This book also seemed the most polished in the technical sense, which was nice to read.
Got this one finished just in time for the release of book five! I love how Ryann creates a vivid complex world, and describes it so beautifully that I can picture it perfectly as I'm reading. The characters are fully rounded and have great arcs, and I love how each book dovetails into the previous ones - although they could be read alone, they're so much better as a series.
