MR TÈO'S TIRADE
Imagine if we'd established our civilisations independent of each other, meaning East and West, separate... I mean, just consider... We could have had our own expertise in physics, chemistry, biology; we could have had our own industries, our own technology, everything could have been made for us. For example, just think: if everything was made for us, do you really think we'd be sitting here in this light? I mean, just look! I can see all your pores. Is that what you want, was that something you considered when you purchased this lamp, that it would make all your pores visible? Just kidding... But think of it for a second, entertain the idea. Think of the art, the paintings - think of the films! Have you ever noticed how different Japanese films are from American and French films, or German for that matter, and I'm not just talking about the way they're written or the way the actors talk and move... I'm thinking, above all, about the lighting... And the colours... Have you ever considered what it would look like if the cameras and the film and the chemicals used in post-production, all these things... What would it have been like if they'd been made for the way we look and move? Of course I'm talking about the Japanese now, saying ‘we’… Well…. Imagine if we'd invented the radio, if it had been us optimising recording technology. What would Vietnamese folk music have sounded like then? Different, no doubt, better suited to our voices, our music... In any case...
