My Alpha Team #1

Crazy People

Rate this book
I had my life all figured out. Focus on my studies, get my Ph.D., and make a scientific breakthrough. As I am about to cross the finish line, my dad calls, asking for help with his project in Russia. Next thing I know, I’m waking up in Sintrum Medical Institute – specifically the mental ward.

They tell me I had a psychotic break. That I did something very bad to someone I love. That I’m dangerous.

The worst part is, I don’t remember. The memories of that month are gone.

I need to get my memories back. I need to know what really happened, because if what they say is true, I don’t think I can come back from that.

Just when I’m starting to lose hope, I find new allies that are just as determined to help me get my memories back, but. . .they have secrets of their own.

Finn, the newbie crazy who makes my heart race even when he lies.
Coal, the angry guard who is kind to me one minute and a dick the next.
Jace, the angelic doctor who constantly makes me feel like I’m in the midst of a chess match.
And Dameon, my benefactor who oozes darkness and violence but has only ever shown me compassion.

It doesn’t matter what they’re hiding – I need to get out of here. I will use them if I need to because my future depends on it.

CRAZY PEOPLE is the first book in My Alpha Team series, a steamy Why Choose romance featuring four smoldering-hot spies and smart quirky scientist whose learning life is not like you always planned. If you like medium burn romance, an underground world of spies, and dark secret experiments, this crazy adventure is for you.

Crazy People is the first book within the My Alpha Team series.

Sure, this book has its pros and cons. Especially when it revolves around our main character, Ember. I just think for someone who is possibly dealing with mental issues that maybe, just maybe, they should call other people crazy. Could just be me but maybe that's how she copes with her day-to-day life? Again, no idea.

She sure was interesting to get to know though. Don't even get me started on the actual place she is living in. It's clear that we don't know all the facts right now because the building has mysterious hallways and rooms that aren't on any blueprint. Then there's possible experimentation on people who have been in this facility the longest that I'm not happy about it either. Are they truly dead or did they become something else?

I have endless questions and can only imagine the worst of the worst happening. So, I will most definitely be jumping into the next book to see if I can Nancy Drew this shit before the next big reveal comes my way.

I’m definitely hooked and intrigued with this trilogy. The end stops in a good place and I’m pretty shocked at the lack of cliffhanger. Heroine Ember has spent the last year locked up for murdering her father. Only Ember is sure she’d NEVER kill her father. It doesn’t help that her memories of that time and the previous month have disappeared. Try as she might, she can’t remember a thing and in turn begins to think she’s where she truly belongs. Unbeknownst to Ember (and stupid lil ol’me), research she’d been conducting is very much sought after. So much so that undercover operatives have infiltrated the hospital she’s in all in hopes to get those memories back. Of course Ember is fairly oblivious to things going on around her and it sorta makes sense given where she is. Honestly I’m kinda bummed the number of crazies in this book are actually rather low. Was hoping they’d all be nuts but turns out they’re all rather smart and beyond skilled. Doubt they’ll spend any more time in an asylum than they have to! Though they take matters into their own hands in the end and I’ll be surprised if that hospital still stands. As for the relationship, while she’s hooked up with at least one (that she remembers) the slowish burn continues on and I imagine the heat level will be cranked up now that everyone will have to come clean. Can’t wait to see what’s next and what kinda trouble they’ll find themselves in.

Different and Interesting

This was a little different than what I expected but it was intriguing. Ember is a socially akward , very nerdy and logic oriented scientist or at least that's how she describes herself, that is not what you picture as you read. But then it hits you - being in an asylum for over a year has changed her both in positive and negative ways. Then there are the 4 agents who are a "team" but have differing agendas. Honestly I'm super curious to figure out what is going on along with Ember. What happened in that month and why?

I'm on the fence about this one. I like the quirkiness of the FMC, but on the other hand it's sometimes too much.

Amazing

Kira Stanley has written an amazing book. I would have never guessed that it was her first. The concept is totally unique to any other RH books I've read. I love that their are some chapters from the guys POV , it adds to the story. Ember is smart and strong. I love how her men are all different and they each provide her with something different that she needs. I love how she also strengthen s them. The harem will take some work to complete my bond together but it works. I can't wait to find out what happens next

This book was PHENOMENAL! I have never read anything quite like it and I was obsessed from the very beginning. This storyline was super original and kept me guessing and sitting at the edge of my seat.

I absolutely LOVED Ember! This woman was brilliant, analytical, calculating but also kind, tough, and resilient. It was fascinating reading from her perspective. The way she perceived things and caught small things most people wouldn’t was so intriguing. And then there were the main men. Daemon, Jace, Finn and Coal. Each so uniquely different but all with the same goal in mind, protect Ember at all costs.
*I might be a tad obsessed with Daemon <3

This book had me wrapped around its finger! I wanted to devour it from beginning to end but I also never wanted it to be over. I was completely consumed by the action, mystery, sexual tension and so much more! I would have never guessed this was Kira Stanley’s 1st book, she wrote like a seasoned writer! So brilliant!

I am waiting with baited breath for Book 2!

Do not waste your time

0 stars (rounded up to 1 since I can't do zero)

I started this book because, despite the title, I thought it would be a very interesting read. The concept was interesting, and I thought the author could do a good balance of storytelling and talking about very real mental health conditions. There was a great opportunity here, but unfortunately, the author failed completely.

I DNF'd the book at 20% because I physically couldn't force myself to keep going. Before we even get to the story itself, the authors use of innacurate terms for mental health conditions (specifically Multiple Personality Disorder which has been changed to Dissociative Identity Disorder), to inaccurate representations of said conditions, I was thoroughly disappointed. When you tell a story like this, it's your job to make sure you are accurately reporting. You can't embellish a very real condition to fit your story. It's not a paranormal book, but a contemporary. You're basing your story in real life, and you're talking about conditions you clearly know nothing about.

The story itself could have been interesting. Reading through the tense changes and the errors is fine because the story itself could have been good. Unfortunately, it didn't hook me in and I couldn't continue to read it.

As someone who struggles with my own mental health condition, the title was offensive. The main character is meant to be this smart woman with a background in science and yet refers to people who are mentally unwell as crazy. It’s just rude.

Positives: the main character was strong despite being in the institute for nearly a year
Negatives: inaccurate, childish and very poorly executed

Save yourself the time and don't read this book. If you're willing to ignore the complete and utter disrespect this author has given those truly suffering from conditions, then you'll enjoy this. Otherwise, read a different book.

I think the author needs to surround herself with a good alpha or beta team who have experience in the mental health field.

Congrats to the author on publishing her first book, but it really needs some work.

Read this awesome book.

This book was crazy. Incredibly good but so crazy . So Ember gets put into a mental institution under false pretenses. That when get dropped into the book . It’s one heck of a ride . I didn’t put the book down until I was done reading. I’m so excited for book 2.

I really liked the creativity in this story. I've not read a book based in an asylum before, and it was very interesting to see things from the perspective of someone living in one. Ember has so many obstacles to overcome. Her memories are gone, and she doesn't really know who she can trust. I enjoyed watching her journey, and I like all of the guys she meets along the way. My favorite is Dameon. I can't wait to see where Ember's journey takes us next!

I never would have guess this was a debut novel! I absolutely loved the story and character development. The FMC is Ember and she is locked in a mental facility fittingly named SIN. The story line of her basically coming into reality 11 months later and getting her first hope of regaining her memories was well thought out and intriguing. I loved meeting all the other characters. Gem was my favorite with her broken English and firey attitude. Finn is too cute with his flirtatious flamboyant attitude. Dameon is mysterious, dark, and deadly. Jace is quite mysterious himself, while Coal is more Alphahole. I look forward to getting to know the characters better and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Ember is fierce and snarky. I love her kind of crazy friendship with Gem. Ember has been locked up in a pen asylum for nearly a year, trying to remember the month everything seemed to go wrong. Daemon has been her one constant - her benefactor that check in, and suddenly there are 3 new guys - another inmate, a doctor, and a guard - who have some secrets of their own. I have to say all of the guys were intriguing and varying levels of dark and psycho. Daemon especially, but I also loved Finn’s dark and playful side, Coal’s broodiness, and Jace’s arrogance. I especially loved how Ember could see through them - girl is smart! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Were all crazy down here...or not

This is the debut novel for this author and overall she did a great job. The book is very story and character building focus. It did move alittle slow and times but nothing that would make me bkred of out the book down. I like the way Embers mind works and I found it fascinating to be in her head.

All the men around Ember are a unknown and more than what they portray. Daemon the dangerous, Finn the friend and confidant, Coal the brooder and Jace the planner. I'm interested to see what this group is going to get up to because oh boy do they clash.

This was very clearly the author's debut novel. And the author very clearly did not spend any money on a proofreader or editor. And the book needed it. Badly. The errors were so numerous that I had a hard time getting through the book. A few examples below:

I lean against the wall and close my eyes.[present tense] The coolness of the wall on my forehead helped, and soon I felt better. [past tense]

I was in such a state of nervous excitement about this possible memory [past tense], that I look all over the facility for her. [present tense]

Since she seems [present tense] like she was [past tense] in an agreeable mood, I decided [past tense] to try my luck.

I keep trying to remember [present tense], but my mind was a blank slate. [past tense]

This doctor was an odd bird [past tense], but so am I. [present tense]

This is just a tiny taste of what the entire book was like. Every time I came across one, it pulled me right out of the story. Every. Single. Time.

Then there were the misspelled words, the grammatical errors, and one time the male character's name changed spelling. All of these would have been caught by a competent proofreader or editor.

The idea of the story was interesting and could have been great with some help. As it is, I don't care enough to find out what happens in the next book.

I was waiting for this book to release and it didn’t disappoint.

The FMC, Ember, is a smart, qualified Biochemist who upon a working trip with her father to Russia mysteriously loses her memories of a month she was there. During this lost month an accident appears to have occurred where her father has been killed. Ember is in a mental health facility where she won’t be a danger to anyone and can spend time trying to regain her memories.

Ember has been in the facility for a year with little progress. Enter into the picture her benefactor Dameon, a new patient, Finn, her new doctor, Jace, and a new guard, Coal. All play important roles in keeping Ember safe as a new plot is discovered within the facility where those in charge are recreating a serum to produce super soldiers by experimenting on the long term patients.

The organisation that placed Ember in the facility aren’t happy with her progress and send an assassin to kill Ember. The guys rush to her rescue whilst keeping a promise to burn the place down for her. We read of them leaving the facility to head off to a safe house.

I can’t wait for book 2!

great debut book

According to the Afterword, this is the author’s debut novel and it was great. I’ve read some debuts that needed A LOT of work but this one was well planned and executed. Minimal errors. Defined characters that didn’t bleed together or seem superficial.

The story flowed well but there were times where I felt like things started to drag for me personally. And unless I wasn’t paying attention or misunderstood, I think some of the timelines were mixed up, like instead of being the next day, it was still the same day kind of thing.

The plot itself is interesting and captured my attention from the beginning. The author teased the reader along the entire book with what had happened during Ember’s missing month of memories with little clues here and there. It was just enough to satisfy our curiosity while feeding it as well.

Overall, this is a phenomenal story that the author should feel very proud of for crafting it and having the courage to release it to the world. I will definitely continue this series because I need to know more about Ember’s missing memories and this elite organization of spies/agents.

I had higher expectations than what I just read. To be honest, I am actually more disappointed. It was kinda boring. The FMC (Ember) is living at a mental institutions and has been for a year because she can't remember a whole month's worth of memories and because she has been told she killed her father.
You follow the FMC and her life at this place and basically nothing happens until the end of the book. You meet the potential harem Dameon (he is psychotic, possessive, and a serial killer), Coal (the security guard), Finn (the pretend new mental patient), and Jace (the doctor). What you get hints of throughout the book is the all the males work for a super secret organization that is very powerful and dangerous. Ember, who is super smart, pieces together the hints and clues of these men and starts to think that she actually didn't kill her father (who was a super smart scientist), and realizes that there is something major and dangerous going on and about to happen.

But in my opinion, I was super bored. Literally the last two or three chapters had more action than the entire book. This should have been like a prequel instead the first book. I still debating whether or not to read the next book when it comes out. Don't know yet.

Their was multiple POVs.
Sexiness: 1.5 out of 5

This review is of my own opinion.

Funny that's for sure but also mysterious and some sadness. Author did great writing for these guys

Amazing and funny read. But also very sad. I loved the part about loving KPOP pacifically BTS because I too listen to then and love them I am 100% ARMY (That what their fan base is called). I cant wait for the next book. And I can't wait for her to remember Dameon. Because who wouldn't want crazy like his. The others are ok but Dameon good God. Anyways sit down grab a drink and start reading. These characters are great and funny. I really like Gem and is so sad about her. I wish it wasn't true and she could of escaped too but sadly not in the cards. I will miss her so much.

Crazy good!

I really enjoyed this book, particularly as it is a trope I have not read before, uniquely amalgamating psycho/institution/spy/rh/science and it just works really well.

Ember the FMC loses a month's worth of memories, and when she wakes she finds herself in a high security mental institution having been told she killed her father.

There are so many little twists and turns, it kept me on my toes - I loved Ember and getting to know the guys.

I've preordered book 2!

This was a different storyline for me and I loved it! I loved that we get multiple POV. I loved that we didn't have to wait the whole book to get some answers. Of course, there are still so many questions that I need answers to, but that only leaves me more excited for book 2! I love Ember! She is strong, intelligent, sassy and a good sense of humor. I won't leave out the men. They are delicious and I cannot wait to find out more about them. This book gave me mystery, steam and action! I look forward to the next book and seeing how the relationships with Ember and the guys progress

A little slow to get going but a great start to the the series

This took a few chapters with a few breaks. I definitely needed the perseverance because once it got going I didn’t want to put it down. I guessed where it was going in this book but that’s not a bad thing, I didn’t really question much around whether Ember was sane, I just assumed she was. The Dameon angle did seem a little cruel, I can’t believe he didn’t give her anything to work with before a year was out, any kind of clues hat she may have been able to work with.

Good read

I enjoyed this book. Loved all the characters and how the connected together some how. Ember is a great character. She thinks she crazy and that she killed her father because she lost her memory from that month. With the help of her friend Gem they try navigating the permanent side of SIN. Then come along some guys who all have different agendas when it comes to Ember and her memories. Read this book to find out more. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Great Debut book

I really enjoyed this debut book by Kira Stanley.

It's a very intriguing, mystery read with good story telling and introduction to the characters and starting to get to know them. The plot is nicely woven in and set up for book two.

Ember is a lovely quirky character and brings a great deal of humour to the book with her internal musings.

Love Dameon can't wait for more of him, looking forward to book two

drags at first, but really good if you stick with it!

I will say that it was a little slow at first, but if you stick with it it gets really good and the set up for the second book is great. I’m looking forward to the second book now that she has connections with all four guys and knows somewhat what is going on. Hopefully book two starts off where we left off and continues the momentum.

Great debut

I believe this the first book published by Kira Stanley and I am excited to see where she goes with her stories. This book was great I loved the plot, the characters, the mystery. The protagonist is fun to go on this journey with, told in multi POV which I loe. Can't wait for the next instalment and get some of my questions answered.
