Birdie

I was kind of halfway in love with Royce. Royce just wasn’t aware of that, I didn’t think. Sure, we went at it like cats and dogs verbally but I was pretty sure he didn’t know I wanted to go at it like... things that go at it in a naked way. Marmots? Muskrats? Wasn’t there a song about muskrats doing it? He didn’t know I wanted to go at it like muskrats from a 70s yacht rock song.

Officially, I'm a research associate for Halloran and Reynard, a small but powerful magical research lab. Unofficially, I work for Doctors Halloran and Reynard themselves, tracking down missing and runaway magic-users trying to stay out of the grasp of folks who want to control magic-users, turning us into lab rats and squeezing us dry before throwing us into the trash heap. I wanted to keep Royce out of it, keep him safe, so I broke things off with him as soon as I realized feelings had well and truly been caught.

It wasn't my brightest move, really.

When Royce decided to tag along with me on what was supposed to be a simple recon trip to check on a known rogue magic-user, everything went straight to Hell and my attempts to protect him by breaking off our burgeoning relationship were for nothing. Now we're both running and I have no idea how I'm going to get him out of this before they catch up to me.

Fuzzy Logic is a MM speculative fiction/urban fantasy romance of approximately 49k words with a happy ending. It is part TWO of a THREE part series and can best be read after part ONE. It features the prickly one soft for the soft one, friends to lovers to friends and back to lovers again, an unwilling road trip, and a seeming mismatch being a true match.

Rescuing Sean . . .

Birdie Monroe was trying to get a start to Houston without being questioned by his boss, but Halloran called him in for tea and a chat. The man was far too discerning. He didn’t say anything directly, but Birdie was pretty sure he had guessed what he was doing behind his back. The protective Birdie always wants to help others like himself so they don’t get exploited. So he secretly continues his investigation about magical lines.

He went to his meeting with Sean, who had waited for him even though he was running late. He tried to get Sean moving, suggesting putting his latte in a take-out cup, trying to get out of there rather than linger. But he started talking anyway, saying he lost grant funding at Bellwether College when they said his bloodwork came back positive – but he never had any bloodwork done! He is sure someone knows about him even after his being off the grid his entire life. But he doesn’t want to run or be afraid of them. He is so close in his research to finding what makes their kind “them”. But Birdie feels the urgency to get moving and to hear exactly what this scientist has done that he needs help and protection now. It was clear to Birdie that Sean’s “new friend” was about to make his move to steal his research. They had to get out now to the safe house since he refused to go to Halloran. And on the drive to the safe house, Birdie was sure that whoever was after Sean... they were after Birdie, too.

This is the second thrilling book in this series, and it’s terrific. It will hook the reader, ramp up the danger, and put you on the run with the characters trying to stay out of the crosshairs of the greedy enemy wanting to use their abilities for their own wealth and power. The relationship between Birdie and Royce is also a factor, but not the main draw here. So grab your copy and get the whole picture. It’s an amazing story that gets better and better. Don’t be left in the dark!

This book was a great follow-up to the first book. (this is book 2 of the series and I would recommend that you read it first) I actually liked it better than the first. It felt like the characters were more settled. Royce and Birdie were both characters that intrigued me in the first book so I was excited that they got a book. Royce and Birdie had a rocky start when they met; they both have shells surrounding them. Royce was having separation anxiety with his best friend and Birdie well not to give too much away he has a past that comes back to haunt him. I really liked Royce during this whole story. He came to stay with Orrin because of an injury but because of his injury was able to have a second chance with Birdie. He and Birdie were a fun pair. I definitely recommend this book!! I can't wait for the third book.

Birdie will steal your heart-- he’s been through so much, he’s doing the best he can, and he’s constructed a not-so-impenetrable armor out of snark and the illusion of being scatterbrained as cover for the reality of who he is: a noble, scared person who wants to help others like himself. He and Royce are great together, but their romance is the backdrop, not the main focus, for an adventure that includes a lot of danger, some violence (magical and physical) and some tough topics (heed the trigger warnings). It’s helpful, for context on the world building and many of the characters, to have read the first novel in the series, although it is possible to pick up the major threads if you’re diving in for the first time here. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I am already looking forward to more set in this universe.

I enjoyed this book more than the first book in this series as a lot of the explanations that the first book needed were not in this book allowing for more exciting things to happen. This book is centered around Birdie who is a hardened magic user and Royce who definitely isn’t either one of those things. Opposites attract especially with the sexual tension between the two men. Bad things happen to them and other people in this book as well we get given some more clues about the overall story. You definitely need to read book one before you read this story and I absolutely can’t wait to read book three. Soon.

This is the second story in the series and the main characters in this installment are Birdie and Royce. Birdie is trying his best to protect others who find themselves in precarious circumstances like he has been in in the past and to proceed in his investigation about magical lines which he thinks is key. Some of what he is doing is known to his crew, some things he is doing on the down low. His distraction is his not so almost being in love with Royce who he was in a friends with benefits thing with but it got deeper for them both. This story got more engaging the deeper I got into it and it was so worth the read.

'Fuzzy Logic' is a good second installment to the Magic series. Bird and Royce's main characters came together nicely.
Birdie is a protector of sorts. It is hard for him to full y be what he truly is as some of what he does is well known whereas others are done in secret.

Royce began as a "friends with benefits" scenario. I guess it was easier when you have two people maintaining emotional brick walls around one another.

Their romance is a part of the story, but not the story. This dynamic works in its own way.

The story lines are better with each book. Much more detailed but just as enjoyable.

Definitely read the first book. Everything will flow much easier.

Loved it

So our quirky friend Birdie from book 1 is just really so dang caring even when he seriously tries not to be. Royce is more than along for the ride... even when they have the worst first date in history. Despite the Rollercoaster of "family" history coming to haunt the future real family is proven. Sexy times do insue and there's a lovely humor ingrained in this whole book. Don't take my rambling for it though... check it out yourself. After you read book 1 if you haven't already.

Who didn't know this was a M/M book when she picked it up? Me! It wasn't my first M/M title but since I cannot remember any others, safe to say it was different from my usual fare. I had a lot of fun! There was action, adventure, romance, and more action but this time of the skin to skin nature. *fans self*
