Ella Sinclair and Art Moss are soulmates. Well, that’s what everyone has been telling them since they were kids. After all, their fathers are lifelong best friends—just like their grandfathers and great-grandfathers were. Ella’s two older brothers are even married to Art’s two older sisters; it only makes sense that the youngest Sinclair and the youngest Moss are destined for the same fate. The problem: Ella and Art have loathed each other for twenty-five years.
But when Ella’s engagement collapses and she has to move out, she finds herself in the last (the very last) place she ever expected: Art’s apartment. Art promised Ella’s brother that he would look out for her. And sure, he probably meant something along the lines of giving her a ride to the airport every now and then—not helping sweet Ella indulge in every unrealized fantasy that she’s kept under lock and key. But hey—Art has always been unpredictable.
Neither of them wants a relationship. That’s really not in line with Art’s carefully curated brand. And Ella couldn’t be less interested after ending a six-year relationship. Plus, there’s the fact that Art’s up for the promotion he’s been targeting for years and Ella can finally apply to business school. The timing is off. It means nothing. They both just need to blow off a little (okay, maybe a lot of) steam.
So it’s a good thing they hate each other so much. That means there’s no chance of feelings getting in the way and pushing them towards the fate that their families have always wanted.
Yep. No chance. None. Definitely not happening.
Positioning is a full-length, standalone lifelong enemies-to-friends-to-lovers (yes, that’s definitely a thing) office/workplace romance novel about falling in love with the one who has been there all along. With lighthearted but filthy dialogue alongside unbelievably steamy encounters, this novel has no cheating or cliffhangers. HEA always guaranteed.
Rebecca Kinkade is a Mexican/Filipina-American contemporary romance author who writes competent leads who work hard and love harder. She currently lives in Los Angeles and assumes that makes her inherently interesting. She has a BA and an MBA and is 100% positive that the most valuable thing she got out of those experiences was content for her books.
I discovered Rebecca only a couple of months ago thanks to a fortuitous recommendation on a FB reading group. I am so surprised that she is not yet widely recognised as one of the best romance authors out there and I will never stop recommending her books.
Rebecca clearly must have a good deal of experience in the corporate world because all of her books are office romance and they are DONE BLOODY RIGHT. She nails the environment and work dynamics and the sub-plots are so sensible and well written that I cannot help but think that these stories could be real and actually inspired by real life stories. So this covers her books’ settings. They are perfect.
Then she does enemies to lovers like a boss. This is probably my most favorite trope ever. And the best thing about her take on it is that her characters evolve with the story, they are layered and multi-faceted and their personal development and growth is a living and breathing thing throughout the book. Yet, while they grow up, challenge themselves breaking the mold (mould? Dammit English Language, y u so weird!?) and box they have been put or put themselves in, they remain true to themselves. In none of her books I found a FC or MC that did something so entirely out of character that I felt cheated or weirded out. Her characters evolve by remaining truthful and i SO appreciate it. I have grown tired of plot-twists, groveling or grand gestures that go totally against someone’s personality.
She also writes kickass female characters. They are brilliant and smart and intelligent and self-possessed and they don’t give me embarrassment by proxy - you know, that feeling you get when you read or see something very awkward and embarrassing and cringe on behalf of the character? That. You don’t get it with Rebecca’s books, not because her FC characters are perfect - they are far from it but they GROW - but because they have self respect, another quality that is disappearing way too frequently in romance novels. All her FCs put themselves on the line, they challenge themselves and what they know to be their reality. They take risks and roll with the punches. I ADMIRE Rebecca’s FCs.
Finally her MCs. None of them are perfect, AT ALL. They match the FCs’ faults and flaws one to one and they are mature, complex and vulnerable. I so love a male character that isn’t perfect as opposed to an imperfect FCs. In this book, the MC (Art) might have dethroned every other male character in recent history. He is wonderful in his imperfections, in his humanity (i loved that he came too early in one scene, he was so real!) and in the way he supports and encourages Ella. His love is one of the best I have read in a long time and the fact that these two have so much history made me melt even further.
The only flaw in this book is that I would have loved to read more memories about their verbal sparring and fights when they were younger.
Beside this, this book is bloody perfect. Well done Rebecca!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
They’ve known each other her entire life (he’s a little older). Her brother is his best friend. Their families have a long history together. Oh and their siblings (2 sets) are married to each other. So naturally they can’t stand each other and haven’t spoken a word in six years.
And then there’s a kiss that changes everything. The scene with the kiss? Amazing.
I loved this couple. I loved how they knew each other on a deep, fundamental level, and stood up for each other when everyone else was letting them down. When they were letting themselves down and they just needed one person to believe in them.
This RK book was the first book to make me cry in a while. The development of these two humans is careful and beautiful. Add to that fantastic banter and raunchy ass spice… top notch. My new bar for swoon is Art in a metal chair staring over his sunglasses 🔥
4.5 actually. I loved the chemistry, the support, the little family they created between the two of them. I just can’t understand WHY they took so long. There’s literally no explanation whatsoever. “Oh the timing wasn’t right” yes it was. It was all there. They’re both kind of stupid, but I loved them so it’s all forgiven. The epilogue was really cute, I adored it, the way they managed to do what they wanted, even though the whole family expected them to be together, the little details that made them them.
(Now I’m off to read the extra scene on the newsletter. Please gimme a baby, Rebecca. I’ll love you forever)
Way too much going on and Very long. Way too many technical words for the jobs that the main character’s job are about. I had to find my self skipping over loads of areas that are so confusing to me because I don’t give a thought about technology and computer programs, files and so much in that lingo. Too much details described in settings, homes, family residences and the office. I prefer a book I can read in a day and feel fulfilled but this one took me Days!! To . Read. This is the description for the family’s for Ella and Art… WASP- An upper or middle class American white Protestant, considered to be a member of the most powerful group in society… basically for poor people they’re rich snobs that are better then anyone including working class members of society. Stuck up in their noses, money buys happiness, men can cheat in front of their wives and children with the live-in staff and not suffer the consequences but the other spouse goes blank. Siblings think they are the same think class, money is power.
The final book we've read in Rebecca's back catalogue, and it definitely hits the definition for 'last but by no means least'. The entire set-up of two people forced together by their parents friendship, spending their lives 'hating' one another because they don't want to give into the universe's signs that they should be together- was delicious. I'm a sucker for a no-good ex boyfriend, and subsequent upgrade, so this absolutely hit the mark for me. Art Moss was an INCREDIBLE character. It would be so easy to have made him a rich and entitled arsehole, but Rebecca went so much deeper. I think it really comes through with how passionate he is about the work he does, and also his fierce protectiveness of those close to him (including Ella...). I also love how clearly he can see Ella, her competence, and her potential; he pushes her to be the best version of herself, all whilst she's being severely underestimated by her family. Ella was equally brilliant, and I thought her relationship with her family was really well formed. They love her and want the best for her, but they can't really see her or what she's truly capable of. I love that she pushes on with what she wants to do, and that Art is there to help her. The spice was of the usual Kinkade standard, with a particularly memorable incident in Ella's childhood bedroom. I loved the throwbacks to their earlier years, roleplaying what could have been if they'd admitted their attraction earlier. I'm now patiently (ish) waiting for Rebecca's next book, because I swear I will never stop reading what she writes.
Wonderful childhood friends / enemies to lovers book. Characters were nuanced and smart, banter was witty and it was deliciously spicy. 🥵 it may seem long at 500 pages but it flew by. I love the way that Kinkade’s main characters grow and empower each other; if you’re looking for a romance where the FMC gets a real partner and a healthy relationship for her HEA, you need to read her books. She’s going to go in my re-read pile- I love her writing and characters. I don’t write many reviews but I have loved everything I’ve read of hers so far, and I only have a couple of books left.

🦋My Review🦋
This was such a complex and amazing book. Art is a product of his environment. He’s a womanizer, he’s an empty shell. But with Ella, he’s so different. He fell hard, he was ready to sacrifice it all just to be with the woman he loved and I absolutes that!
Ella had so many old school expectations placed on her. Get married. Have kids. Take care of the house, hubby & kids. That’s all well and fine but that’s not what she wants. She wants the opportunity to go to business school. Make it on her own. Not be stifled by her family. When Art literally helped her study throughout the entire process my ovaries exploded!
Loved this! Slowly making my way through Rebecca Kinkade's backlist.
Great writing as expected. Really well developed and fleshed out multifaceted characters and a realistic portrayal of a relationship with all its ups and downs. Loved the build up and tension between the main characters. Impressive and surprising character redemption arcs too. A little bit angsty. And I always loved reading about competent women - though I was lost on all this business talk, it was still such a great romance book.
Rebecca writes the absolute best kick ass professional women who go through a journey to become unafraid to ask for what they want, both in and out of the bedroom. The FMC, Ella, was no exception. And Art? Urgh, we love an MMC who would move heaven and earth to support his lady.
The writing was great, the story had heart, the characters had great banter and growth (together and apart), and the spice was top notch. Another read knocked out of the park.
Hated the manwhore trope this time and the whole ex thing, it was kinda clashing with the fantasy of their romance. Definitely fantastical resolution of family traumas (some people will never be able to face themselves and put into words the horrors of their deeds).
Otherwise, enjoyable characters' chemistry (with lots of a$$ play... *whimpers*)

I wasn’t expecting to love their relationship so much but I did
Their growth and support and banter and just everything was 👌🏼
For anyone who hasn’t read any of her books, I 10/10 recommend trying one because the characters have been fantastic and the books are lots of fun and also the spice 🔥🔥
Rebecca Kinkade knows where her strengths lie and it’s writing smart, funny, and sexy romances where the characters hate to love one another. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of my favorite books by her but it had its moments.
If RK writes it, I’m reading it. And loving it. And obsessing over it. A masterclass in characters and multi-page spice and just pure brilliance. Honestly I think I got my MBA again with all the sexy marketing and data analysis talk.
E MAIS UMA VEZ A LENDA REBECCA KINKADE FAZENDO TUDO. na verdade é um 4,5 porque acho que a intriga entre eles poderia ter um outro motivo mais crível, mas tudo bem eu passo pano
Oh, to be loved like Art loves Ella! My Rebecca Kinkade deep dive is going splendidly. Just when I think I found my new favorite book, the next one is my favorite.
4.5⭐️ Davenport-Ridgeway!!! CLOCK-IT!!!!!! ok world building! Kinkade’s books are seriously just so funny and good😭🫶🏻. I love an arrrogant rich man who yearns!!!!!!!!
First time reading Ms. Kinkade. So funny, laughed out loud. Art and Ella are charming characters that made each other stronger and better people. Look forward to reading more of her work.
