Drawing is not a talent, it's a skill anyone can learn. This is the philosophy of drawing instructor Brent Eviston based on his more than twenty years of teaching. Now, he shares his secrets with this book that provides the most accessible, streamlined, and effective methods for learning to draw. Educational style Brent Eviston brings to the table (positive, very calm and logically helps to build fundamental skill set necessary to learn drawing (design), here in literary form, is exquisitely suited to my life style (highly demanding/busy), and approach to learning (3-tier learner -- visual, audio and applied).
In over 6 months of exposure to his support, I have blossomed (my eye-hand-brain coordination refines daily; I can see what was once obscure and thereby sketch with notable clarity and accuracy; each such step forward instills confidence and encourages further leaps into learning), and I remain committed to the learning process, and excited to take further leaps into my online art school, self-styled curriculum. If readers seek to open the door to their creativity, or to unlock the Pandora's Box of their drawing (design) chops, Eviston's book is a great place to start. And, I might add from my own experience as well, that his approach fills in gaps in the education of those veterans in art field who may have interrupted their formal education or never began such.
One of the better drawing books, in my opinion. It gives much needed advice and details about his approach which are missing from other books. It doesn't get far into drawing, such as how to draw scenes with multiple subjects, but it does cover the basics and proportions and setting up for a single subject in a way that will greatly help a beginner develop method and mindset.
I also suggest searching for John Muir Laws's YouTube video on gesture drawing. If you like that lecture, then you might like this book as a supplement.
A very good book for learning the basic drawing techniques. However, the title is a bit misleading. This book does not teach you to draw, it teaches you basic drawing techniques, which you can apply when practicing, after finishing the book.
