Summer Loving #1

Jessie
The last time I saw the man—jerk—of my dreams, he fired me. Now, he’s back in town to renovate my bed and breakfast before the tourist season starts.

I might have gotten over my grudge, but I sure haven’t moved on since him. Harrison is the ideal hunk, or he was back when we were young and stupid. My contractor is still sexy, possibly sweet, and easily keeps up with my sarcasm…but he’s a package deal this time. He’s back with a daughter and a chip of his shoulder, neither of which should matter to me. But the more I see him on the job, each time we clash and fall into our thrilling push-and-pull, I have to wonder if there’s something fresh to start with him before the summer kicks off.

Harrison
Of all people, it just had to be Jessie Green buying this old dump. Imagine my shock that the feisty, gorgeous, stubborn girl I fell in love with in high school is the owner of our town’s former brothel.

Her plans for a B&B are a nearly impossible race against time—doable, but it’s quite the hustle. With the tables turned—her hiring me—it’d be easier done if I didn’t have to see her day in and day out, worrying if she can overlook our past, wondering if she tastes as good as she looks, wishing I could have a take two. Hell, even a take one

5 star review Season Starter (Summer Loving #1) by Amabel Daniels
This must be my week to read new authors. How I have not come across Amabel Daniels before is beyond me. From start to finish I was hooked on this entertaining story. If Season Starter is anything to go by, then Ms.Daniels is off to s great start.
I loved Jessie and Harrison, both separately and together. I also love single parent stories so this was a win/win for me. Although it was a quick read Ms.Daniels packed a lot into it.
Following a dream she has had forever, Jessie is going to run her own bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, the man who is going to get the house in shape is none other than Harrison the man who once fired her.
I fell hard and fast for all these characters, they were easy to relate to and their story was a laugh out loud read. The relationship that Harrison and his daughter Mel have is heartwarming and I loved the relationship which Jessie developed with her as well.
This was a well written, steamy, romantic story and is a little gem.

Oh my freaking goodness!! I’m quickly becoming obsessed with this author!!! I think this is the quickest I’ve read a book that had a little length on it!!! And it is very much going in my top 10 pile of book reads for 2021!

I am also obsessed with this characters and just fell hard FAST! I had a moment where I just about wet myself laughing so hard!! Jessie is quite possibly the best and so incredibly funny and wholeheartedly passionate. I loved the person she was and just loved how she inspired others around her!

Harrison seemed like a dream! Single dad, construction worker and just so invested in his daughter plus being a hard worker pulled all together made me squirm just from the sexiness of the man. His love for his daughter and trying to provide made certain options not available to him. The awe inspiring daughter he is raising just consumes your mind. Mel isn’t like any young character I’ve read about and it was refreshing!

So many more people you get glimpses of that just scream INCREDIBLE BOOK COMING SOON, has me excited beyond my abilities to wait! I will do my best to be patient but I need their books now! This book made me laugh so much and just gave me a happy heart that made me feel so light. You will get a kick out of Mel and Jessie’s best friends!!! Congrats on this soon to be best seller!!

Season Starter is book one in the Summer Loving Series and what an entertaining start to the series.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won’t be the last because Season Starter is not only entertaining, it’s also hilarious. It’s a quick read that packs a mighty punch, in fact I would say this is romantic comedy at its best.
Jessie has always wanted to open a bed and breakfast in a run down mansion in the middle of town so when she unexpectedly gets some money from a relative she decides to put her dream in motion, only problem is, someone else wants the old run down building and the only way to secure her dream is to get the B&B up and running by start of the tourist season. Enter contractor Harrison and Mel and let the fun and games begin....
This is a hilarious, entertaining, fun read, it has the perfect mix of love and humour and it has left me ex for book 2 in the series. I loved everything about this read and I highly recommend it.

Amabel writes a funny, sweet friends to lovers romance that you will thoroughly enjoy reading.

Jessie has bought, or kind of bought, an old brothel that she wants to renovate into a B&B, if she can get the money. She needs to use her inheritance but is having a hard time getting it released to her. Jessie makes an agreement with the owners that if she cannot get the B&B up and running by Memorial day then her nemesis Timmy Wormer can have it. The only problem is that she is putting in all the work and there is a chance she might lose it. Well, there is another problem that she has to deal with, Harrison is a partner in the company that she has hired to do the renos. Why is this a problem well, he fired her as a teenager but never asked her why she did what she did.

Harrison shows up at the new job site and sees that it is Jessie that owns the house and this is going to be a big problem. For one he remembers that he fired her but also nobody knows that he had liked her since high school, although she was a few years younger. He has a ten year old daughter that he is responsible for and desperately needs this job as he is flat broke.

Can they work together? Will Jessie hold her losing her job against Harrison? Will she possibly hold firing him from this job over his head? Will they give in to their mutual attraction to each other?

Amber had you laughing while Jessie is cleaning out the rooms and not sure what some of the furniture was used for or when she falls out of a swing that is in one of the rooms. Then she has your heart beating a little faster when Jessie and Harrison finally professing their feeling for each other. She grabs your attention right from the beginning with the idea that the brothel is haunted and having dirty ghosts around.
I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a funny romance that sees two people so perfect for each other finally give in.

Jessie (h) and Harrison (H) have to work together to meet an impossible deadline to open her B&B. Jessie is a hotel maid working in the small town of Kormane where she hope to turn the old jail/brothel/BDSM dungeon into a charming B&B before "the season" starts Memorial Day weekend. She unknowingly hires Harrison, her former high school crush/old boss to renovate this house. Harrison, having just moved back to Korean for Philadelphia is looking for stability for him and his daughter Mel. Needing to work past their issues they seem to have rekindled their teenage crush on each other and start relationship.

spice level: 🌶️🌶️

I got this book when the "stuff you kindle" was going on. Keywords were hitting their mark and I downloaded it. My first reaction was there was going to be some serious hating going on since Harrison did Jessie wrong when they were younger. But upon reading their high school drama I a bit annoyed. Yes, they worked together at an ice cream parlor in high school, but the reason she held a grudge for so long was meh. I should have known that this was going to be a bit more tame than some of the other books I read but I didn't realize how tame it was going to be. The spice was pretty much non-existence, in my opinion, and when it was it was barely anything to write about. I would not recommend this book is someone is looking for a high spice, enemies to lovers books.

On the other hand, there was a few scenes that made me laugh until I cried. The whole science project scene their girls were retelling to Mel was amazing. The incident on the swing and the banter afterwards was great. But outside of those, I was disappointed.

I do not think I would be interested in reading the other stories in the series. Maybe Heather/Logan story. Buy only if it stays on KU.

Season Starter by Amabel Daniels
I received this book from the author.
STAHP!! This book was hilarious!!! If you can write a book about restoring an old brothel into a bed and breakfast while fighting rats and flavored lube…I am sold!!!
Seriously I totally loved this story about Jessie and Harrison. They made my heart happy. Enemies to Lovers/2nd Chance/single dad story is a definite win for me.
Jessie is still holding a grudge against Harrison for firing her 10 years ago from the ice cream story. LOL Girl is strong with the dislike!!! Jessie needs to get this brothel restored for “The Season” to make back all the money she has sunk into the building. This is all she has and she is close to losing it if she can’t get the house done!! *shakes fist* Damn you Wormer!!!!
Harrison is feeling terrible about uprooting his daughter Mel and moving home. Now he is working to and trying to get someone with a ridiculous grudge to forgive him. He starts with with his family and soon discovers he will be working for Jessie…the girl he mega crushed over and who now hates him. E just wished she knew WHY he did what he did.
The couple have amazing chemistry and the banter….stappppp it was great!! Throw in Harrison struggling to deal with his over the top nerdy daughter Mel throwing in crazy words I had to look up too and the comedy is great. The couple find themselves in crazy situations but once they get past everything and move toward building a better tomorrow is when it was truly awesome.

"Season Starter" by Amabel Daniels was a fun enemies-to-lovers romance between aspiring B&B owner Jessica "Jessie" Green and contractor Harrison Monroe, who had recently returned to his hometown for a fresh start with his precocious 10-year-old daughter, Mel. He certainly didn't expect his company's first client to be Jessie, the girl he'd been forced to fire years ago when they were both teenagers working for the local ice cream parlor. Out of desperation, Jessie set aside her grudge because Harrison was the only contractor available to take on the renovation of her B&B, which had to be ready to open in only five weeks. If it wasn't, Jessie's purchase of the historic property would be nullified and it would be torn down and turned into a parking lot by her old high school rival.

As Jessie and Harrison spent time together working on the renovation, the chemistry between them became harder and harder to ignore. I really enjoyed the slow burn as they worked through the unresolved feelings from their past, and when they finally acted on them, it was totally worth the wait. That said, I wish the character development had been a bit more in depth for both Jessie and Harrison because I still had a number of questions about them at the end of the story. For example, what happened to Harrison's parents that led to his adoptive father Mikey gaining custody of him and his sister Nina?

Overall, I enjoyed "Season Starter" and would recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to continuing the series.

Hilarious and fun. I enjoyed this lighthearted story that was laugh out loud funny. However, sensitive issues regarding bullying and a single parent home are addressed. The following quotes refer to Mel, Harrison's ten year old daughter. From Jessie, "This kid was just a big old dump of baggage and sadness." From Harrison, "I dropped off Mel at school—a ritual that was more like delivering a lamb to the slaughter." These quotes reflect Mel's moods when we meet her. I enjoyed the descriptive writing like this throughout the story. Plenty of comic relief eased the characters' stress.
Renovating a previous brothel with a small budget and a looming deadline in order to transform it into a successful B&B sets up our characters for a money pit type of adventure. Throw in a genius ten year old with an encyclopedic vocabulary, crazy friends with no filters and a penchant for inappropriate comments, high school bullies who grew up to be adult bullies with bully children, and Jessie and Harrison who make each other crazy, and that is a recipe destined to produce a delicious intellectual and emotional feast. Not to mention the ice cream incidents and food fights. So what if there are some editing errors occasionally. This is a fun story. There are some steamy scenes too, so reader beware. Just the preview of the next book had me in stitches. Can hardly wait to read it. This by far is one of my favorite summer reads.

Holy hawt damn you can feel the sexual tension rolling off the pages as the story gets deeper into the story. Jessie always dreamed about opening a bed and breakfast in the run down mansion in town, and once she got a lot of money from a relative she wasn’t aware she had she could finally do it. Well once the couple finally decided to sell and the town worm (wormer being his last name perfectly fitting) so they made a deal if she could get the house fixed up by the time the tourist season started she could buy the house. And she ended up hiring her old crush from high school and damn did he age well but he also now had a kid. Will they get this house done in time or will their sexual tension keep them from getting the job done in time and allowing all Jessie’s money go to waste and letting Wormer turn it into a parking lot. Wow this story was amazing hilarious and hawt I loved every second of it.

This was an amazing Romantic Comedy read with so many laugh out loud moments! The Solar flare & wallpapered ceiling scenes were an absolute crack up!
Harrison and Jessie were Old school sweethearts and life took them in different directions for years until the day Jessie returned to purchase an unused brothel.
Life had different plans for them and they ended up back in the same place and with the roles reversed - Harrison was hired to help restore and renovate an old brothel that was going to be turned into a bed and breakfast that Jessie decided she would buy with some inheritance money but there was a catch....
Old feelings resurfaced almost instantly which made for a great read with anticipation building and some of the funniest scenes I’ve read in a while.
The Lube room had me snorting (you have to read it - no spoilers from me)

I loved this read and will definitely have this on my rotation of re reads!

Harrison moves back to town with his daughter Mel. Mel may only be 10 but she's pretty much a genius and sounds a bit like an encyclopedia. Sometimes he doesn't know what to do about her but he's an amazing dad. He's a contractor and his partner set him up on his first job. Imagine his surprise it's for Jesse. The girl that he liked in high school and had to fire at their job.

Imagine her surprise that Harrison, who she still kind of holds a grudge against even 10 years later is her contractor. She can't do anything about that if she wants to get her dream bed and breakfast up and running by the season. She has to or there's repercussions that she doesn't even want to think about.

Old feelings resurface the longer they are together. Will they be able to work on them even with so much going on around them?

Slow burn, funny and hotness is all wrapped up in this book.

This is the 1st book in this series and what a perfect beginning this story is. Jessie is focused on her dream off running a B & B. Harrison is back in town and is now a single dad to his daughter, and he is hired to renovate the B & B. The sparks fly when Harrison and Jessie meet and the last time, they saw each other he fired her. I loved the push and pull between these characters, and the tension between them is palpable. This is a beautifully written story which has engaging and realistic character, and with family, humor, and love, which all leads to an entertaining, humorous, romantic, and steamy story. I was enthralled throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

Jessie has purchased the perfect building for the Bed & Breakfast she always opened even if it has a colorful past and he only thing standing in her way is that she has a limited time to complete the renovations. With her investment and dreams on the line she must work with the man who has been her enemy since they were teenagers.

Harrison has recently moved back to his hometown with his daughter so he needs to ensure that the transition for both of them is successful. Working with the woman who has hated him since they were teenagers was complicated enough especially since he has been attracted to her for just as long.

Humor, heat and captivating characters as Jessie and Harrison fight for the life they both deserve.

Fun read

Lots of laughs, great banter and fun characters make this an entertaining read. Jessie is over her head wanting to turn an old brothel/sex club into a B and B but she's determined to save the house even if it means working with her ex teenage crush/mortal enemy. Harrison is back in town to restart his life with his daughter, opening a renovation business with his dad. He's not ready to work with one of his biggest mistakes. Fun situation, good friends, chemistry and a cute story what more could you ask for? Can't wait to jump into the next story!

Season starter was a quick, feel-good read. It took me a third of the book to care about the characters in the story, but at some point I finally did. I feel like the climax of the book was short-lived, I think that could have maybe been done a little better, but other than that, it was decent.

There were times I laughed at the dialogue - particularly when Mel was involved. I loved her whole character - from her smarts to her banter (as seldom as it was) to her personality. I'm incredibly happy she was such a big part of this story. I actually felt as though her relationship with Jessie came across as more organic than Jessie and Harrison.

Season Starter (Summer Loving #1) is such a great beginning to the series and a cute and sexy read. Harrison and Jessie are hilarious enemies to lovers and the sexual tension between this is hot, hot HOT! I liked Jessie’s relatable character a lot as she’s a hard worker and real go getter. Nothing was going to stop her dream of opening a bed and breakfast. And Harrison is also a hard working construction worker and I love reading the banter between him and Jessie. And on another note, Harrison sure is one hot single daddy! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

loved this book the author is new to me and now on my list to devour anything she writes. It was funny the characters were great which I’m hoping to read more about in the future. Jessie after working all the time is now ready to start her dream of having her own b&b but with stipulations and a tight time frame. Harrison is back with his daughter and is the man for the job. With laugh out loud moments and chemistry leaping off the pages this makes for a great read

I found this to be a quick and cute read! Jessie and Harrison knew each other back in the day, but life happened and they went in different directions. Fast forward to now and Jessie has unknowingly hired Harrison to renovate the brothel she has just bought to a bed and breakfast.

Enjoyed the slow burn that these two were dealing with daily, the antics, the “money pit” issues, loved Mel, the friends, the banter, their chemistry…. overall, a good read. A little bit of bullying that does occur, so just a heads up.

Jessie is hard not to love. Her determination was admirable, then add in her sass. The story behind the building and the description of the rooms was hilarious! The bond between besties, perfection.

And in comes Harrison with Mel. Good heavens, Mel is something special.

I can't wait to see where this series goes.

Daniels gives the heart what it wants. A nice warm hug wrapped inside a heartbreaker of a story. Season Starter revisits the regret of first love and the frustration of second chances. A little bit funny brings out the coziness of a heartwarming romance.

So fixer up stories are not exactly my favorite as they all have the same story line. That being said, this dragged on a bit for me but others may enjoy more if this subject is of interest.

75% of this book was really good but I felt like the ending was so rushed. I was really disappointed how quickly everything “came together” and how “in love” they were at the end. Easy, quick read but ehh.

3.5 stars. It was mostly cute and I liked the chemistry between the two MCs. However, you have to be willing to suspend disbelief for the premise to work. I also never understand how adults in fiction books are amused when kids are downright rude to them.
