Much has changed for the Chanku. For so long they kept their shapeshifting ability secret, but now they have assimilated into the human world in ways they never once thought possible. As the daughter of Anton Cheval (the universally acknowledged leader of the Chanku Nation) and CEO of Cheval International, Lily Cheval chooses to live alone in San Francisco, headquarters of the pack’s business interests. A series of murders near both the pack compound in Montana and the San Francisco Bay Area leave her wary and worried for her fellow Chanku. The bodies of human women are turning up—women raped by men, but killed by wolves.

Aldo Xenakis, a charismatic cult leader, is blaming the Chanku, inciting fear among residents throughout the west. When Lily meets his son, Sebastian, their connection is intense and immediate, yet tempered by the darkness she senses in him—he is a powerful wizard who uses magic to shift into wolf form, but is he the killer?

Driven by passion, Sebastian and Lily come together in sensual ecstasy, a joining that leaves Lily shaken but utterly alive. Could Sebastian be the man she’s been waiting for, or is he her worst enemy?

Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.

She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.

She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.

Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

This is a DNF for me at about 65%. That's my cut off point for DNF-ing and still rating/reviewing a book.

The book has an okay premise, but the characters just aren't to my preference. I like shifter stories for their completely dominant men, the ones who let their instincts rule and don't let anyone stand in their way of what they want...whether it's territory or a woman, or whatever.

In this book, Sebastian is very much at the mercy of his father...who is a weird, pervy guy that I never quite figured out.

Lily Cheval is an alpha female, and she is so completely dominating of Sebastian...it was a turn off. I like strong willed women but not when they can't let a man be a man. No reason to neuter your guy...let him at least have the illusion of power and dominance. Lily was a smirking, horny, slutty, unapologetically bitchy she-wolf and she continually rubbed me the wrong way.

Not only that, but the promiscuity of the pack was a bit much. Seriously, nearly every page of this book included something sexual...be it a thought, a look, a smell, an act...come on! A HUGE no-no for me, and at only 20%...was when Sebastian and Lily are in wolf form and he starts wanting to hump her wet wolf slit while his wolfy cock was swelling as he watched her tail running in front of him.

Ummm...eeeeeewww!!!!!!

For those of you that follow the wonderful world of Kate Douglas and her Chanku, you will not be disappointed.
Lily has grown up and has learned (since an early age) how to deal with her pain in the tucus father, the uber alpha
and sexy as all get out, Anton Cheval. Their tale has walked me through the fantastic journey, yet again, with tears
and much laughter. It pulled at my heart strings, had me laughing so hard, I snorted tea through my nose, holding my
breath and wanting to smack somebody, sorry Tinker! ( I do love you bunches) It took me back and brought me forward
to life of the next generation. their importance of the chanku heritage and the journeys and trials they endure. Their
sense of family, friendship, desire and most of all love. I was happy that the other characters were not left out as we love them all.
That's the thing about my fictitious family. I am able to feel apart of the story, feel as though I am there, i felt it to my core.
It was definitely a wild ride and Kate Douglas knows how to take you there. Don't miss this magical ride, it left me with wind blown hair
and smiling from ear to ear and ready for more.

Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild, #1) Dark Wolf by Kate Douglas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary:
It is a Bold New Beginning for the Chanku. For so long they kept their shapeshifting ability secret, but now they have assimilated into the world in ways they once never thought possible. Still there are those who want to destroy them, with dark powers of their own...

The CEO of Cheval International, Lily Cheval chooses to live alone, but a series of rapes and murders leave her wary and worried for her fellow Chanku. Then she meets Sebastian Xenakis and the connection is intense and immediate. The son of a charismatic cult leader, Sebastian is a mysteriously sensual man who uses magic to shift into wolf form. He and Lily come together in a moment of supreme ecstasy, succumbing to a primal passion that leaves Lily shaken but utterly alive. Is Sebastian her lifetime mate or is he her worst enemy?

Sebastian Xenakis is still coming into his power as a wizard. He can shapeshift by magical means and runs as a wolf using the power he draws from the elements. But young women are dying—raped by a human and then slaughtered by a wolf. Suspicion falls on the shapeshifting Chanku, but Sebastian wonders if he might somehow be guilty of the crimes.

Then he meets Lily Cheval, the uncrowned princess of the powerful Chanku, and realizes he will do whatever it takes to clear his name and win her love. But evil walks where Sebastian goes, and there are mysteries neither Lily nor her father, the powerful wizard, Anton Cheval, cannot unravel. Is Sebastian the perfect mate for Lily, or is he instead, one she should fear?

Review:
Let me start right off by saying that this is a great story. You got the really evil, slimy villain (Aldo Xenakis). You have the strong heroine (Lily) and conflicted hero (Sebastian) both looking for love (ahhhhhh) and a really good cast of secondary characters that are more than cardboard cutouts.

The story drops you right into a good scene from almost page one and continues pretty well as the mystery/action/romance shift around and take center stage from time to time. Great stuff and a sure fire winner as a paranormal romance and thriller. Right ??

OK, here is the parts that detract from this 5 Star story, the author known for her over-the-top sexual writing felt the need to do a few things to support her reputation it seems (the fact that they added nothing to the story other than distraction seems not to matter).

First in the middle of the romance/story of Lily and Sebastian she keeps dropping us into the lives of her best male friend and HIS love life, not bad but all it does is take us away from the story we were reading while adding nothing.

Second (and MOST irritating/distracting) we are sailing along on the story which is moving at a decent pace and it was like “WOW, damn I almost forgot to write the big sex scene I am famous for” and proceeds to immediately within about one chapter give us very graphic F/F – M/M – 3 Way – 4 Way plus add a touch of voyeurism and masturbation just to make sure we covered everything.

Now since we polished off that (all within less than 24 hours of story time) we can get back to the story we got the book to read about.

Bottom Line: The book is a solid 4 Stars in spite of the author’s efforts to include distracting sexual scenes that did nothing for the story. I enjoy well written passionate scenes but this was contrived dribble that had no purpose other than to support the author’s reputation from past books and add to the page count.

Will I get the next book in the series? Probably, since I did love the story but 80% or more of the sex was nothing but filler that added pages and kept you from the actual story.

Dark wolf Kate Douglas

I received this book via Netgalley in return for an honest review. I don't gush and give false praise – I don't believe that helps readers or authors so what you read is what I truly feel about a book.

I love books with romance and paranormal elements so Dark Wolf pulled me in straight away. Its also classed as Erotica and has some pretty hot and graphic sex scenes so if you don't like those take note. I found they fitted perfectly within the storyline and the Chanku are described as very sexual people so to them sex with others, group sex, male, female not just partners is as natural as breathing.

It took me a little while to work out just who fitted where but that's normal for me at the beginning of a new series – once the world is settled in my mind the enjoyment of the novel flows better which is probably why I tend to rate second and subsequent books higher than the first in a series. Once enmeshed in the world of the Chanku though the story flowed well. They are a race of shape-shifters, usually changing to wolf but capable of changing to other prey species if they wish. Main character Lily is daughter of the current Alpha of the Chanku, and CEO of a very large company – she's a strong person with close ties to her family but likes her independence so lives alone. She meets Sebastian and things click with them both immediately and Lily wonders if he's her Mate. However he also appears to have links to someone killing local girls and he seems to have been in the right place at the right time – is he the killer or is someone framing him. Lily hopes he's innocent because of her strong feelings but won't let those run ahead of logic. Her parents are excellent at talking things through with her.

The whole pack came together only decades ago having been “outed” by accident, and until then none knew each other, so they have become very protective of each other. The other main character Sebastian only recently found his father who is against Chanku, and would like to see them destroyed. Lily and her parents suspect his father has Dark magic and are therefore worried that Sebastian may share his powers although he says he supports the Chanku. The characters in the story are well written and I felt they were real, and understood their motives and emotions. So often authors put characters into situations that just don't fit with the person so far described, but Kate manages to make the drama and results mesh well with the characters within it. I loved the way Annie returned from years away and found her Mate and how protective her parents were even though she's thirty ( to parents you're always a child to be protected– I know, feel that way about my grown children sometimes ) There were several sub plots within the main one which made for an interesting and complex read and kept my attention firmly on the book. Some authors just write one main plot with lots of filler and I find I'm skipping what to me are irrelevancies to the novel but Kate kept me engrossed right to the end.

I don't have info in price or length yet as its not yet published (Pub Date   Apr 30 2013) but its quite a good length for me, certainly not a short novella but a book that took me, a quick reader, several hours to get through. I'd guess around 200-250 pages.

Stars: a solid four – and given the quality of the writing I'd expect subsequent ones in the series to be four and a half to five :) If you like a good erotic paranormal romance then this book fits the bill perfectly.

Happy Release Day Dark Wolf and Kate Douglas
Check it out, 5 stars!

“I am Chanku, Sebastian. After a run, I really want to fuck. No strings. No ties. I just really, really want sex. Are you up for that?”

He shook himself, and she thought of a big dog coming out of the rain. But then he glanced down at the front of his slacks and raised his head and one eyebrow. “I guess I am.”

Did I get your attention?

As if you didn’t already know already Kate Douglas in one of my favorite authors. Not only is her writing smoldering hot but she is brilliant! Dark Wolf is the second generation of Chanku; The Spirit Wild Series is another Slam-dunk from the queen of erotic novels, Kate Douglas.

I have read along while the first generation met, mated, married, and eventually had children. Now I get to travel along with the pack again in this all new fresh look on their society. This generation knows their heritage and makes no excuses about what they are and what they want.

Lily Cheval is basically the princess of their kind and is all Alpha. She has never meet a man who challenged her and her wolf until Sebastian. Sebastian Xenakis is the son of Aldo Xenakis, a dark wizard that the pack has never trusted. But is Sebastian like his father?

Brutal killings are taking place and all signs point to Chanku. The pack feels like they are being set up and suspect their largest critic Aldo may have something to do with it. But Sebastian seems to be in all the wrong places at the times of the killings.

Lily is torn, she feels the pull to this strong man but if he even Chanku? Humans and Chanku pairs never work out. And something isn’t right with Sebastian, could it be his fathers dark magic or is he playing Lily?

Dark Wolf is a thrilling and sensual dive back into Chanku society whether or nor you have read the first generation or not do not miss this one.

This Book released today Pick it up immediately.

I was provided an advance reader copy by the author for purposes of review, I received no compensation for it.

Dark Wolf by Kate Douglas is a refreshing change in a paranormal – humans are aware of the supernatural and they all live among each other. Being a huge paranormal fan, I was hooked from page one. It has been awhile since I have read such a great story. I am in love with the world Miss Douglas created.

Lily is the daughter of the Alpha Leader of the Chanku and the CEO of his company. Sebastian is the son of a cult leader and struggling to find a place in his new world. When they meet, their two worlds collide changing everything they have ever known.

There are some plot lines that are based on simple misunderstandings that turn into huge issues; leaving you thinking (and sometimes frustrated), “if only they would have just talked to each other.” This doesn’t really work in a good story, other than to annoy a reader. I have now read an excellent story that works BECAUSE Sebastian and Lily DID talk to each other and were honest. It showed the true intelligence of these characters. Bad things still happened and the suspense was fantastic. I never once questioned the characters or found them lacking in any way.

Every character, in Dark Wolf, was so well written. I even loved the bad guy… I could feel his evil darkness.

The Chanku have the ability to shapeshift, among other things. They get their power from love and loving each other. They are very open about their sexuality and need tons of sex to thrive. There is a lot of great sex in Dark Wolf; all sorts of combinations, including same-sex and multiple partners. It’s the way of the Chanku and its delicious!

Nothing seemed forgotten in this complex world. Every part of this story had a conclusion. With Dark Wolf, I found a new must read author. I am already looking forward to Book Two.
What I learned from Dark Wolf is that love is still the answer and it really does conquer all.

I was familiar with the works of Kate Douglas before picking up this book, as I had read some of her Wolf Tales series years ago, prior to this review. And in the case of Douglas, I have to admit that it was a good thing. I don't advise most people to read her books, unless they are fully prepared for what exactly they are getting into. To call this book an erotic read, is understating it a bit. While I typically read both paranormal and erotic books, when I first picked up one her books years ago, even I was shocked! For me her books were not only erotic, but many scenes were downright crude. It's also not unusual for the characters to sleep with different partners, as well as within groups. The warning on the back of her books seemed a little understated to me. As a reader of these types of books on a somewhat regular basis, I have never read one quite like hers - before or since. Don't get me wrong, she is an excellent writer, and she spins a good tale, but her books are not for everyone. If those sorts of things are a turn off for you, you really don't want to read her books. For those of you who have no problems with that, you may find your ideal author in Douglas!

With that said. I found Dark Wolf a little bit toned down from the Wolf Tales series - not much, but a little. Lily is a strong female werewolf who is comfortable in her own skin. She is strong, smart, sexy, and everything you could expect out of a alpha female character. Sebastian comes into the book a little hard to read, but get more insight to the character the further along we get in the book. By the end, you can really connect with his character. But his father casts a major shadow over them both, as well as their relationship. For me, Sebastian's quick about face attitude towards his father was a bit hard to swallow. He hunted down his biological father against his mother's wishes, and is in fact very subservient in his attitude towards him. "Yes, Father" this, and "No, Father" that. Almost brainwashed in favor of his father. Yet, he did an almost complete 180 in his attitude in a very short amount of time. It would have been a bit more believable for me if it took a little longer for him to come around. The storyline was slightly predictable, in that you knew after the first few chapters who the "bad guy" was. But the way Douglas writes it and brings the story together, it really doesn't detract from the story overall. All in all, another great read for Kate Douglas fans or fans of the really spicy erotic genre! If you are new to her style of writing - proceed with caution!

Once again, Kate Douglas has delivered a well written and extremely sensual erotic fantasy. The plot entirely revitalizes the steamy saga of those wonderfully lusty, and sexually promiscuous Chanku. Perfect for a pervy reader looking for a sizzling hot read.
I started this book being a bit familiar with these kinky Chanku. I had read a couple of the books in the series, with Wolf Tales # 10 standing out in my memory and holding a favored place high upon my keeper shelf.
Dark Wolf proves that Ms. Douglas is a master at her craft. The intimate scenes she created are a little raunchy, but always played out well. The story has some same sex intimacies, and Douglas writes the best m/m scenes I've ever read. The Chanku are a polyamorous community, so there is some scorching hot menage a trois scenes. Always incredibly detailed and explicit. The Chanku are sensual creatures, so they get more than a little naughty going on, and those scenes were brilliantly written.
Lily is the daughter to powerful Chanku Alpha Anton Cheval. She is an alpha and a power to be reckoned with herself. As strong as she is, Lily has despaired of ever finding a mate who will be capable of challenging her. She finds what she needs in Sebastian Xenakis, the son of her enemy. I gotta say that I really enjoyed the whole sleeping with the enemy storyline. Xenakis elder is revealed to be a evil wizard who has a not-so-secret agenda against the Chanku. Further complicating the plot, it is revealed that the twisted psycho has ulterior motives and his plans involve Sebastian. I also have to get it out there how much I loved Sebastian. He had good inside him. He wanted to be accepted by his father, but not to the point of letting the man victimize him or the woman he loved. That he discovered good reason for identifying strongly with the Chanku was just icing on this cake.
Dark Wolf was an exciting book. With plenty of hot and steamy love scenes, and the wonderful characters, I couldn't help becoming enthralled with the story. I loved reading it, it kept me engaged from the beginning to end. Can't wait for the next book in the Chanku saga.

On her death bed, Sebastian’s mother begs her son never to seek out his father. Of course, reeling from loneliness and loss Sebastian searches for his father and discovers him to be a very powerful wizard that hates the Chanku.

It seems every where Sebastian goes young woman are being raped then torn apart by wolves. Sebastian is also having memory gaps, and his father begins to accuse Sebastian of these crimes. You see, Sebastian is a wizard with the ability to magically shift to a wolf.

Lily Cheval is the daughter of the Chanku alpha. She is under pressure to discover the culprit behind these murders before the public turns against the wolf shifting Chanku population. Leads are sending her toward Sebastian, but the more she gets to know him the more she realizes there is no evil in him…and he just might be her perfect mate.

Dark magic verses love magic and the goddess mother earth will come to a head in this extremely erotic and sexual tale. The Chanku are a socially sexual people, even though mating bonds are for life sexual acts are permitted throughout the group.

Dark Wolf was a hot and steamy read with an extremely original take on alien shifting beings, goddesses, alternate plains of existence and a powerful evil. The bases of the plot had a few open or conflicting issues but this story did have a lot going on. In the end, the moral to the book shown through...discovering where you belong, finding true family and friendship is the key to happiness, power and love. 3.5 Stars.

I received a galley copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book reminds me almost of a Romeo and Juliet Paranormal theme. Both Sebastian and Lily come from strong alpha men who oppose each other with a hate so intense it's disconcerting at times. Granted, the hate is more than likely one sided. I think Aldo Xenakis hates the chanku shifters more than anything.

Sebastian Xenakis is a wizard of sorts with magic that allows him to gather energy from natural sources. With this energy he has managed to shapeshift into a wolf form, which causes a lot of problems for Lily and Sebastian and the ongoing Rapes and Murders being investigated. Lily is a sort of princess to the Chanku Shifters. She is beautiful, sensual, intelligent, and a really good person that people tend to gravitate towards. She is the CEO of her fathers company and has a vested interest in the rape and murder cases that appear to be committed by possibly a shifter. The women are being raped by humans and murdered by wolves. This puts public opinion in the mind set to believe the shifters are responsible. It also makes Lily doubt Sebastian since he is capable of the same. There are lots of twists, turns and surprises in this book.

I did really like the idea behind the plot of the book. The sexual tension between Sebastian and Lily was definitely hot at times. The book had mystery, suspense, and a whole lot of sexy scenes. I always tend to think the first book of the series is the authors way of breaking you in to the world they're creating. I'm very interested to see what the next book will bring to the series. I would rate this book between at 3.5-4 stars.

I liked this book to a point. The sex scenes were hot, be warned there is m/m, f/f mmff. This is because of the free love attitude of the pack. Love and sexual energy is the base of their pack power. This I could understand as part of the plot. But when it all started to subtract from the story that is when it started to annoy me.
This was a paranormal erotic novel, so I understand there is going to be eroticism in it. But I did find that they put a pause on the the rest of the story.

I did like how we got an extra romance thrown in, it sort of became a main feature and I actually ended up liking that couple better than the main couple of the story.

I felt like this may have been a continuance of another story, maybe the characters had featured in other books? Because there was a hell of a big world there and a lot going on. If not then maybe it's just first book of a series syndrome with the information overload you sometimes get, either way it definitely has potential to move onto another book.

So all in all, I liked this book but there were things that annoyed me.
I have several of this authors books on my tbr list and that has not changed, I will still be looking at other books from Kate Douglas.

Ok so let me say this first and foremost.....I LOVE KATE DOUGLAS! I happened to stumble upon some of her books on Amazon.com for free around the time this blog started. Her book series, StarQuest, was one of the first I reviewed for this blog and have been a fan ever since. I promised her I'd stalk her when RWA came to San Diego in 2016 and she laughed and said she'd stalk me back, LOL. What's not to love about that! Needless to say, I love reading all her super steamy, super smexy books. Her books are unlike anything I've run acrossed since. If you like super sexy, I mean jaw-dropping sexiness, you'll love her books but you will totally have to keep an open mind when reading them. There is absolutely NO vanilla in these books!

With all that being said, let me give you a run down of this series and my thoughts....

Series History:
Dark Wolf is the newest addition in Kate Douglas's shapeshifting Chanku world. Her very popular series, Wolf Tales came to an end with Wolf Tales 12 but as Kate said, there were still more stories to be told. The premise for the stories and the series is this *in a super small nutshell*: Anton, A Magician/Wizard, went on a mission to find answers to some pretty heavy questions he had. While doing research, he stumbled upon some books referring to a lost species of shapeshifters known as Chanku. The books state that humans who are born with the specific gene for shapeshifting had lost the ability because they stopped eating the nutrients needed to trigger the latent ability. Anton tracked down the almost extinct nutrients found in a Tibetan grass and cultivated them again. He started to take them himself and found that he was one of these humans with the recessed gene and after eating the grass, he could indeed shapeshift and with the shapeshifting came numerous other abilities such as long life, telepathy and a raging libido! Eventually Anton finds others with the recessed gene and a pack is born with Anton as the Uber Alpha, elected, respected and loved in that position, not won by might or right. The original Wolf Tales is about Anton's journey and the individual stories of those in the original pack.

So where does Dark Wolf fit in to this super long shapeshifting series. Well like all great series, Wolf Tales's original members had kids and so this next series is the kids stories. They are all grown up and are finding their way in the world and so Dark Wolf is born. It's the first book in the new crop stories spun off of the original Wolf Tales but it's really not a spin-off, more a future continuation.

Dark Wolf is about Anton's first born daughter, Lily. Lily has become an alpha female all on her own. When we first meet Lily in the original Wolf Tales, she's definitely something special. She is one of the first born of two fully Chanku parents and Anton being a Wizard, she has some magic all her own. Also being one of the first born children of the Uber Alpha, she's treated as the Princess of the pack. Lily has also earned her title. As she's grown, she's become the head of a lot of the pack's companies and become the face of the pack for the media. All around she is well loved but she longs for a companion. She wants the white picket fence, children and a loving, passionate partner. All her life, she's been expected to mate with Anton's second in command's son Alex. Alex and Lily grew up together, literally. They shared their crib, had their first shift together, even lost their virginity with each other but they have always known that they were not meant to be mated. There is a soul deep love but not passion and they both want passion but their parents are convinced they belong together.

While attending an arts gala in the packs honor, Lily attends in her father's place and meets the son of another powerful businessman, Sebastian. Sebastian is the son of the pack's biggest opponent. The man is very outspoken on the wrongness of the Chanku to the point of being a bigot. When they meet, sparks fly but could Sebastian be the one Lily is looking for or is he just as bad as his dad?

In this book, we also get Alex's story as well. Alex is a total player and is just biding his time while Lily makes a decision about their future. Either they will finally give in and mate with each other or they will find true love elsewhere. While Alex waits, he has no problem lovin' the ladies. He's never serious about any of them and they all know he belongs to Lily, or so he lets them believe. One night, while on a date, he hears someone in distress down an alley. When he goes to investigate, he sees a small woman being hassled by three men. Being the gentleman he is, he jumps in to save her. After rescuing the lady, she thanks him by name, WTH? Alex soon realizes that this is Annie, a missing member of the pack whom he grew up with but she left to go study in Europe. Annie has come home and maybe for good?

The Chanku stories are honestly some of my favorite shapeshifter books and not just because I love Kate as an author so much but because I love the twists she puts on the classic. The Chanku are not just your typical Uber Alpha Male stories. Kate's wolves follow very closely to a how a real wolf pack operates. There are dominant Alpha Males and Alpha Females. The Males know their roles as protectors but they know the real power is the Females and always defer to them. Even with the mating, in these books, only the Females can choose their mates or decide to have pups. Every one of Kate's Alpha Females are just that, Alpha and who doesn't love a series with strong women and men that know the women have all the power?
Another thing that sets Kate's books apart are the polyamorous relationships. All of the Chanku not only have their main mates but they also have lovers. Because of their raging libido's, they recognize the overwhelming need for touch, love and sex but love is the main thing. Just like any family or pack, love is at the heart of everything, not just the sex but they also don't define love as just male/female. If it feels good and everyone is consenting, it's all good! Be aware, this is an erotic book/series, so you will find M/M, F/F, M/F, threesomes and foursomes as well as some animal/animal lovin', shapeshifter style but it's all done in a way that flows naturally with the story and only makes you want to eat some grass and see if you're Chanku yourself.
All in all, if you want some big family, big hearts, great shapeshifting, sexy-sexy PNR...give Dark Wolf a try.

I’m sitting here reading some reviews for Dark Wolf. Normally I don’t do that, but I was wondering what other people thought. I’m actually glad I did.

First off, I think many reviewers read the beginning of the memo that stated that this is a new series, but they didn’t read the whole thing. Dark Wolf is actually a continuation of the first generation of Chanku. It’s now the babies of the packs turn for happiness. The first series, Wolf Tales, really set the stage and there seemed to be some confusion when they were reading Dark Wolf. Yes, Ms. Douglas fills you in on why things are happening, but I think all the varieties of sex turned many people off. They didn’t have a complete history.

Chanku are a race of shapeshifters that have extremely high libidos. It is in their DNA; they love everyone in the pack because that is how they were created. They are not human, so they do not act as humans. Period. It is practically a requirement of their being. They need sex like they need air. It is their power and way of life. To say they have too much sex is boggling to a longtime fan of this series. Yes, I say longtime fan of THIS series, even though this is the first in the new Spirit Wild. I think to truly appreciate Dark Wolf you need to know Lily as a child and also learn what really happened in the beginning. Wolf Tales takes you all the way to the beginning to when they didn’t even really know who or what they were. You grow with the pack. You love, live, and cry right along with them on their journey of discovery. You miss that when you read Dark Wolf and can’t understand the whole significance of their existence.

When I heard that Ms. Kate was doing a series about the next generation I was scared and excited. These adults were babies when I last read about them. Now in their thirties, I had to wrap my head around it. Babies don’t have sex! I bet Ms. Douglas had an even harder time. These were her actual babies and she had to put them into sexual situations that would make any mother cringe. She did a fabulous job and she should be proud of herself.

In Dark Wolf, we get to revisit the pack and actually get to see more than one romance blossom. While at first I was disappointed because I loved the other character and I wanted them to have their own story, but I’m happy with the direction she took. It almost mimics their parents love affairs, but it was still their own.

Now I will admit that I’m extremely thrilled about the next story, Dark Moon. I’ve wanted to know more about Igmutaka from when he first came onto the scene. I think I just got chills. There is just something about that hunk of man. That cougar makes me purrrrrrr.

I would recommend Dark Wolf to any lover of Wolf Tales in an instant. I would also recommend it to new readers, but go in with an open mind. If you read Dark Wolf and think, “Hmmm, I kinda like this”. Then start from the beginning. Trust me it’s worth it. The Chanku are a fascinating species with hearts full of love and understanding. We could all use more Chanku in the world.

Dark Wolf is melt-your-Kindle hot! Kate Douglas has created a world of shifters filled with the conflict of the heart, body and soul. She has also added some humor and a slightly different and fresh twist on the paranormal genre. Women are being raped by humans and brutally murdered by wolves and the evidence points to this being the work of shifters. Lily Cheval, daughter to powerful Chanku Alpha Anton Cheval is determined to find out what is really happening, and that means finding out more about the son of one of her father’s greatest enemies. Sebastian Xenakis is new to his father’s world, still learning about his powers with magic that allow him to gather energy and shift into a wolf form. He also seems to be having blackouts that happen around the time of the murders, making him suspect in Lily’s mind. When they meet, the mental and physical attraction is blazing hot and in total conflict with Lily’s investigation. Is Sebastian a tool for his father’s evil? Is there more to this seemingly honorable man than meets the eye? Will more women die before whoever is guilty is found?

Kate Douglas’ Chanku are super sensual, powerful and when their existence is threatened, come out fighting! Her characters are intense, intelligent and strong, and oh yes, also able to multi-task, in the middle of danger, when the mating urge strikes, somehow it mostly seems to fit, or at least doesn’t interrupt the plot! Yes, this erotic tale has a plot, and it’s good! There is even a lesson to be learned about following your heart, finding love, and discovering where you truly belong! As long as you can handle the sensual / sexual side of Dark Wolf, the rest of the action makes for good reading!

From author Kate Douglas comes a new series that entails a sexy wolf, a very sexy lady and a magical world filled with magic, love and breathless moments.

Sebastian Xenakis never knew what his mother meant when at her dying moment she pleaded to him to not re-connect with his father. Against her wishes he finds him and starts the road of uncovering who he is and how his magic links into his wolf.
When he meets Lily Cheval he knows he has found his mate, but will he be able to prove that he is not responsible for all the killings going around and most importantly, will Lily stay by his side and love him without any restriction ?

I'm a lover of wolfs, all their sexiness and all that alpha male attitude that comes with the finding of their true mates.
Here, we find two characters that are perfect for each other but due to the circumstances, have to fight their way through the danger and deception. They were effectively well written and page by page the reader get's to know more about who they are and what values they live by.

The secondary characters were also well inserted in the story, each having their place well defined and each having an emotional link to Lily and Sebastian.
The world building was created with a perfect descriptional background, and the author brings us a story that is fast paced with a touch of mysterie and thriller. To the sound of it this book was almost perfect to me.

Why didn't I give it 5 stars ?
Because as much as I love a good alpha male, powerful and demanding, I also love a woman willing to "obey" and give her pleasure without reservations. I didn't feel that Lily was that woman and as much as I understand that she was an Alpha's daughter, I would have liked to see her more involved with "only" Sebastian and if they had to share their bed, I would have loved to see Sebastian more sure of himself, calling the shots.

Overall I liked this book and it's on my favorites list, so if you love all this ingredients together buy it, read it and get inspired by it.

Dark Wolf is about a fantastic mix of shapeshifters, murder, magic and sex! Kate Daniels tells a paranormal mystery, handling the subject of murder and rape sensitively, not needing details, but increasing tension and suspense for her reader.
Lily, a Chanku Alpha female, connects with Sebastian Xenakis on meeting him. However, Sebastian can only shapeshift with magic, he is not Chanku, and his father is Aldo Xenakis, a business man who has spoken against Shapeshifters - even suggesting they may be responsible for the murders.
I enjoyed the way in which Kate Daniels represented the Chanku community, which was unlike any other Shapeshifter book I have read. I thought it was interesting how she suggested they fought through their sexual energy and love for each other, which the reader is able to see in action.
I found Dark Wolf worked as a story because of the way in which Kate Daniels allows her characters to develop. Lily becomes much softer and open after being with Sebastian, whereas at the beginning of the novel she appears very focused and unemotional.
Sebastian is open to his father's darkness initially, and he realises he can accomplish more with Lily and her family.
There are also the characters of Alex and Annie who play an important role in Dark Wolf; they are very likeable, sexual and fun.
Although I had the mystery solved I still enjoyed Dark Wolf and the way in which Kate Daniels chose to unfold the plot. This is a book I would definitely recommend to fans of adult paranormal fiction.

Kate Douglas is continuing the story of the Chanku in her new series Spirit Wild. Dark Wolf is the first in that series and you can read this as a stand alone, background information is provided so that anyone not familiar with Ms. Douglas' series Wolf Tales will still be able to read and appreciate the book.

Dark Wolf not only has a great romance forming through out it also has a dark mystery of who is the serial killer behind the murder and rape of several women and why do they want it to look like the work of the Chanku. Ms. Douglas does a fantastic job of setting the stage for her new series while giving us the back ground we need to understand the shapeshifting race known as the Chanku and at the same time cooks up a steaming hot helping of erotic paranormal romance. All of this is a tall order to fill and Ms. Douglas does an admiral job.

The Chanku have very large libidos and are very open about not only nudity but also there views about sex and relationships. This book contains sex scenes including f/f, m/m, m/m/f as well as m/f. We have menage, voyeurism and wolf sex (Chanku in their wolf forms having sex). So if you like your shifter romance on the hot and steamy side I think you will enjoy Dark Wolf and the new series that will follow.

Oh My God!!! Normally I would have shrunk that down to the omg that everyone knows and loves, but this book deserved that and much much more!!! I was obviously looking forward to reading this book...hello going back to my Wolf Tales..., but a piece of me was worried that it wouldn't live up to the original series...oh ye of little faith...This is a lesson learned for me...NEVER doubt the genius that is Kate Douglas!! I was also afraid that I wouldn't be able to picture Lily as an adult in my head, strike 2. Not only could I picture her I could relate to the fact that hey I know the last time you saw me I was a kid, but I'm ALL grown up now. My 3rd and final worry was Kate had made it so that Lily had a new hero, not Alex who I naturally thought she would end up with, but some random guy who we don't know if he is even right for her... I'm not a spoiler, so I won't spoil it for anyone but if you were wavering between getting it or not...get the book, Get The Book, GET THE BOOK!!! I can't wait for Dark Moon and I hope they see that this is another series that the fans want to read about as much as Kate wants to keep writing them...I'll leave you to your reading<3

Dark Wolf was Kate's best novel yet, I absolutely loved Dark Wolf above all others!
For you not so risque favoring readers- cover your eyes, because Kate absolutely does NOT hold back on the steam this time!
The detail and imagery is spell binding and absolutely hot. If you can't handle getting down with the visceral emotion of sexy shifters stirring up the scene and connecting you to the baser side of nature you best break out the ice box and hold on tight because the exciting world of Kate's shifters has been shown to the world and are no longer hiding in the shadows!
The spot light is on while a slew of rapes and murders break out and the blame is on them!
Dark Wolf is a fantastic mix of murder mystery and erotic romance centering around Sebastian and Lily and the opposite sides of their ancestry line.
I loved seeing the next generation of Chanku as adults its fantastic to see how they've turned out and it left me on pins and needles with excitement!
Kate has done a fantastic job of pushing the boundaries and breaking through the barriers on so many levels I love her bravery for writing outside the norm! I can't wait to read Kate's next novel! Give me more! :)

DARK WOLF (SPIRIT WILD #1) by Kate Douglas
Publish Date: April 30, 2013
REVIEW BY: Reading In Pajamas/ Donna
RATED: 4 Stars

REVIEW:
Lilly is a strong intelligent alpha shifter who also has the command of magic in her. I like that the author was able to convey her strength without making her cold. Sebastian is an alpha in his own right, but has a vulnerability to him that I found endearing. I also enjoyed not being sure if he was a good guy, a bad guy or just caught up in events around him.

The story was interesting with plenty of action, suspense and romance. This book is not timid and is sexually uninhibited. I enjoyed the story and look forward to Spirit Wild #2!

at first it was a slow start,
Sebastian Xenakis searched for his father when his mother passed on,
he found papers that told him his name, his mother told him to stay away from him because he was evil.
he wanted to be like his father Aldo he had great power and magic, when he did something in magic and failed his father laughed at him,so he watched and was starting to believe his mother, that his father was evil,
seb would go to the oak tree and pull energy it would give a brilliant glow that surrounded him with raw power and he could shift into a wolf, something his father couldn`t do,
Lily Cheval had to go to a presentation for her father and speak on his be-half,and there she met sebastian, she passed out and he took her to a privet room to re-cover.
from here it gets really exciting, and i don`t want to let to much out for those that haven`t read it yet,but you just have to read it because what happens is mind boggling, and fights s.....,and brings seb and lily
closer the ever.

Sorry to say, but this is another book whose potentials have been destroyed by the excessive amount of sex spread with both hands. It's not that I do not like it in the love stories or romance, but some stories just do not seem about love but rather collective orgies organized to meet huge needs of people who do not think of anything else, readers included ....

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND KENSINGTON BOOKS FOR THE PREVIEW!

I really enjoyed this book! It's the first in a spin off/next generation series after the Wolf Tales (and other) books. I could tell there were characters here that had been introduced before, but I had no problem tracking in this book and didn't feel lost at all. It reminds me of Lora Leigh's Breeds books with the contemporary set shifters with a highly sexual nature. It also reminded me if Kit Rocha's O'Kane books with its multi partner sexually open society.

There were moments that felt a little over the top and momentsnwherenthe relationships seemed rushed, especially the secondary relationship in this story. Still, it really worked for me overall and I'm definitely watching for the sequel to this one,

Having read all 12 of the Wolf Tales books, I was so looking forward to this one. It did not disappoint. Bringing the Chanku to life once again was a thrill a minute. Loved Sebastian, and his inner turmoil choked me up at times. The first meeting between Anton and Sebastian had me holding my breath. (SPOILER ALERT!) Glad to see Alex got his HEA too. The scenes between Tinker and Alex had me laughing. All the posturing on Tinker's part was exactly how I'd picture him acting! It was very hard to put this one down until I'd finished it.

I don't know exactly what to say about this book. I loved it. I hated it. It was hot. It left me cold. I was all over the place with this one. And I think I have to say that I kinda liked it!

This book was such a departure for me and it felt so different than anything else I've read that I want to do this review a little differently. I want to do this chronologically so that I can get my thoughts organized and properly cataloged!

So at the beginning of the book, I was really confused. The main character, Lilly, was talking about how the Chanku (shapeshifters) had been out in the open, with the general population being aware of them for a while now. And it seemed like it was reality, like our own dimension, because characters were talking about California and Montana. So I wasn't really sure when or where I was. It seemed like I would have to plod along, not having any idea but eventually, the author clues you in to what's what. You just can't be impatient like I was!

Once you get that all cleared up, you can relax and get to know Lilly, the heroine of the book. Lilly is a little bit like royalty. Her father is the super alpha male over all of the Chanku and he's very respected and very beloved. Lilly is next in line but she's special in many other ways. I think the author didn't even get really that far into all of Lilly's gifts. But maybe you'll get more of that in future books in this series. Anyway, Lilly is the perfect heroine! She's tough-as-nails and totally badass. But she's also longing for more. And I don't mean sex. She's looking for the whole package. Not just the man, but the man and the closeness and the kids and the family but it all starts with the man and there's just no one on her radar. Until now...but first, she'll have to solve the mystery of who is raping and killing women in the Bay area and Montana, near her family property.

Hoping to keep public favor on her side, Lilly goes to a benefit honoring her father and there she meets the son of her father's enemy. The son's name is Sebastian and he is also something of a mystery. His father certainly seems evil so is Sebastian truly his father's son? That's something I really loved about Sebastian and how the author made me feel about him. You don't know if he's bad or not. You really hope he isn't but you just don't know! And then, we find out that he's not able to remember where he was or what he was doing during the murders so it looks really bad for him. But you already like him so much and he just seems like he couldn't possibly be the killer! And he has such respect for Lilly and he aches to have a loving family like she does. But you just don't know and it delicious!

Another thing I wanted to mention is the Sexy Time. Whoa whoa whoa. This was seriously hot. There was TONS of sex! But you're going to need to have a VERY open mind. I won't give too much away but let me tell you what kinds of Sexy Time to expect: male on female (of course), female on female, male on male, a threesome with two females and a male and I think even a 4 foursome. And maybe even a teensy bit of animal sex. It really shocked me because I wasn't expecting anything like this! Usually, shapeshifter books have their characters in a strictly monogamous relationships. The same sex sex scenes didn't do too much for me but since I've never really read many before, it didn't bother me. I don't know that I'd go out in search of same sex romance novels but if one had it, I would still read it. As long as it had my kind of Sexy Time in there too! LOL!

Overall, I enjoyed this book. There were definitely some flaws in there but nothing that ruined my day. And maybe they weren't even flaws; they were just parts I didn't like. But there was plenty to like. All of that sex - unusual and usual - was all wrapped up in love. Sebastian and Lilly love each other. Alex and Annie love each other. Everyone in the pack loves each other. And it's not a dirty, filthy, "Oh yeah baby" kind of love. It's a true, honest, real, pure love and even if the different type of sex turn you off, that kind of love probably won't.

Even with all the freaky deeky, I'd still recommend this book. But I'd only recommend it to someone who has already read this type of book or to someone who has a very open mind. If you DO like this kind of book, I think there will be more in the series to come, so you should keep your eyes open for them! Enjoy!

Shifted Shifter Sex. Mmmhmm. Gotta hand it to Douglas. She is a unique one. LOL Dark Wolf is a spin off of her Wolf Tales series-- focusing on the next generation of Chanku which are shifters-- and it was a fun one. The characters are entertaining, the world creative and interesting and the sex. Well it's pretty damn good too.

I really liked Sebastian and Lily. They're instantly drawn to each other when they meet at a party honoring her father and the connection is undeniable. They're from different magical wolds but both powerful, intelligent and gorgeous--they really felt like equals and I loved that. I loved her independence and strength and that he was so open minded and curious. It made their interactions really fun to watch and had me falling for them.

Things of course aren't going to be easy for these two. Young woman are being brutally murdered in their area and the Chanku--Lily and her kind--are being blamed by none other than Sebastian's hate filled father. Not only that but someone seems to be out to get both Sebastian and Lily and implicating him in the attacks as well. I really enjoyed the light suspense and danger even though it resolved a little easier than I would have liked.

Heat-wise... the Chanku are very sexual beings and open about it so there's a good bit of loving and all sorts of yummy combos. Menages, m/m and even a little f/f action going on. It was pretty nicely done and not nearly as...raunchy as I remember her writing. There's also, and really this one I haven't seen often, sex in shifter form. That's how they finalize their bond and, well, it's just as graphic as when they're humans. Kinda odd but it worked...I think. It was different at least.

Dark Wolf is great if you like some hot and heavy shifter erotica with a side of suspense. Things move quickly with these two, and the secondary romance as well, but it fits their lifestyle and felt real and lasting. While there was a bit of repetition in the writing now and again and a blip here or there it was an easy read with nice additions of heat, humor and danger that kept me entertained and has me wanting to read more from the series.

The Chanku are a mighty people who have the ability to transform into various animals. Most, however, prefer eventually transmute into the wolf form. Some still use the magic - look for a tree in the forest with powers beyond the normal - to capture their energy and thus mutate more rapidly.

Lily is a Chanku circulating freely among humans. Beloved, charismatic and beautiful, she is admired wherever she goes. Her Chanku senses are also strong and she manages to capture whether a person is trustworthy or not. That's her biggest question whens he meets Sebastian ...

Sebastian didnt have an easy life. Only at his mother's death he came to know who his father was. Now, known as the son of the powerful Aldo Xenakis, Sebastian is in the spotlight.

When they met each other at a party, Sebastian and Lily can't hide their attraction. The point is: women have been raped and killed in the city and every time it happens Sebastian seems to have been there. How to trust a man full of secrets? Which one Lily should listen: the evidences or her heart?

I confess I didnt know this author. She is well known in the Erotic-Fantasy Literature. Her series are most about wolves/werewolves. But there are also contemporary novels. Her plots are intricade and full of mystery and action. Of course, a big dose of eroticism.
When you read one of her books, you wanna read all of them. Her characters are strong - and so the feeling you have about them. Certainly this is a series that appeals in full to fans of this kind of literature.
Book on pre-order.

Dark Wolf is a sexy, suspenseful, shifter introduction to the world of the Kate Douglas' Chanku

I love a good erotic romance. Throw in some paranormal elements and I’m even happier. When I received Kate Douglas’ Dark Moon (Spirit Wild Book Two) for review from her publisher, I was aware that it would have adult content. Knowing it was the second book in a series, I tracked down Dark Wolf (Spirit Wild Book One) to read first.

I really, really enjoyed Dark Wolf. I’d never read Douglas’ paranormal romances about the shapeshifting Chanku, so this was a totally new world to me. Both the romance between the two main characters (Lily and Sebastian) and the suspense-filled story as they track down a rapist-murderer was engrossing. I was surprised to find that “adult” in this case meant not just pretty explicit sex scenes, but foursomes. However it was all handled naturally within the story and never felt like it was sex for just the sake of titillation.

Would I read other books in this series? Absolutely! In fact, I would like to go back and read the earlier series that dealt with many of the characters who serve as parents to this generation of Chanku. In addition, Douglas has just published another title in this series, Dark Spirit (Spirit Wild Book Three), that I’m curious about. See my review of Book Two, Dark Moon for more information.

-Four stars to Kate Douglas’ Dark Wolf: Spirit Wild Book One

I wanted to read this book as soon as I saw the cover. He looked like one sexy man. After I read the blurb I knew that I had to read it just to see what happened.

Sebastian Xenakis is a wizard that is coming into his powers. He can change into many things and he loves changing into a wolf. There are young girls that are being killed and he thinks he might be the one doing it and the Chanku are suspects to.

Lily Cheval is the uncrowned princess of the Chanku. She is also the CEO of her dad's company. She is one smart woman that knows how to be in charge. She runs into Sebastian while she is doing something else and knows right away that he is the man for her.

I couldn't even understand what it would be like to find the man for me and to realize that he is the number one suspect in the murders. Sebastian knows that he is the lead in the murders and he wants to clear his name and clear the Chanku of having anything to do with it.

I love to read stories that have shapeshifters in them and knowing they can live their lives the way they want to because humans know that they are different and know that there are supernaturals all around them.

The author did a great job with her characters and they have the right chemistry for the other. You could really see it in this book. I could even see myself falling for Sebastian myself. It's a great thing that Lily knows how to keep Sebastian in line.

I will warn you that there is M/M, M/F/M, M/F, and F/F. That is what makes the story so good.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in place of an honest review.
