Rate this book
When the famous actor and film star Julian Tremain invited up-and-coming actress Kate Reid to London to do a play with him, she was delighted from a career point of view, but wary of getting emotionally involved with a womaniser like Julian. This is a "love" story about two actors. The male character, Julian, is a dithering weak person with a streak of cruelty. His counterpart, Kate, is too long suffering and understanding to be real. In a word she is a doormat. Julian suffered an unhappy childhood with aloof parents and he had an unsuccessful marriage. His aunt explains that he deliberately tries to wreck his relationships with his poor behavior to protect himself from hurt. This is supposed to excuse his acting like a moron and his vile actions.
