Home Front: A James Marshal Thriller Omnibus

Rate this book
Read Duty Calls, the new spy thriller from Thomas Waugh, featuring the character James Marshal.'Dark and punchy. An enigmatic hero takes on the dangerous streets of London.' Shaun Baines, author of Pallbearer

Enough is Enough

Two Albanians, sitting in a car, are selling cocaine outside a school again.

Enough is enough, James Marshal, an ex-Para, tells himself as he observes the drug dealers.

Marshal assaults the Albanians. But it's just the start, rather than the end, of things.

The ruthless gang, led by Luka Rugova and Viktor Baruti, demand retribution. The blood debt must be paid.

To gain intelligence on the criminal organisation Marshal approaches the fixer, Oliver Porter.

In return for providing Marshal with information, Porter asks a favour of his former associate.

Marshal must drive the fixer's niece around for a couple of days.

But a lot can happen in a couple of days.

When Marshal returns to London, the Albanians find him. The blood debt still needs to be paid.

Marshal must end what he started, one way or another.

Blood for Blood

James Marshal, ex-Para and former PMC, must go to war once more.

A close friend, Jack Foster, is tortured, killed and dumped outside the Special Forces Club in Knightsbridge.

The chief suspect behind the brutal execution of Foster is John Mullen, an IRA terrorist turned statesman. Mullen possessed the motive and means to kill the SAS operative. He also possesses an alibi, however, and is considered untouchable.

Marshal should walk away. But doesn't.

The veteran of Helmand must face his demons - or rather use them - to gather intelligence, torture his enemies and pull the trigger.

Marshal embarks on a one-man mission to deliver justice - and justice is vengeance.

Thomas Waugh has written one of the thrillers of the year, blending the visceral violence of Lee Child with the black humour and insight of a Graham Greene "entertainment". Blood For Blood portrays an outsider, ill at ease with the world - a veteran of Afghanistan who never quite came back from the war.

Thomas Waugh is the pseudonym of a bestselling historical novelist. He is also the author of Gun For Hire. He lives in London.

Recommended for fans of Lee Child, Stephen Leather and Graham Greene.

I only made it halfway through the first book. A couple of chapters of genetic "thriller" material followed by pages and pages of will they won't they romance. The main character kills off the evil Alabanian enforcer and sets the crime boss up to be arrested in the space of two chapters. Then it's back to the awful romance. Couldn't be bothered to finish it.
