Unpopular opinion : Every story is based on neo-noir type..... Not even a single story don't disappoint you 💯. One of the best short story collection 👌...... Can't choose which is your favorite story ..

Short stories primarily based on poverty, and how it strains human relationships. Every story had a lasting impression with compelling and interesting characters. The way some characters behaves in those circumstances cannot be said right/wrong by a person who has never experienced that.

One may not need to be in poverty to understand the characters or stories, all it takes is to just empathize with the characters.

Definitely not a fun read but is authentic to the characters and circumstances. Even at just three or four pages long, many stories are dense, intense, and filled with agony.

📚 Book Review: Esther by Vannanilavan

Just around 100 pages, yet a story that leaves a lasting impression. Esther is the only book in my life that I have read twice consecutively, back to back, without a break. That itself speaks volumes about the impact it had on me.

Thiru Vannanilavan takes us into the lives of an ordinary family struggling to survive the harsh realities of drought and famine in the place they call home. Through the family members’ everyday lives, their emotional struggles, and the difficult choices they make, the author makes us experience their world rather than merely read about it.

What makes Esther so powerful is its raw, understated storytelling. With its neo-noir undertones, the narrative explores the darker shades of human existence, where circumstances often dictate choices and survival comes at an emotional cost.

This is also one of the novels recommended by Kamal Haasan on the reality show Bigg Boss, bringing attention to a work that deserves to be read and remembered.

Sometimes, it is the bitterest of endings that become the very reason we continue to move forward in life.

A short read, but an emotionally profound experience. Esther reminds us that behind every difficult choice lies a life shaped by circumstances beyond one’s control.

⭐ A small book with a hauntingly powerful story.
