This is labelled six of the best. Having read the collections they are taken from I would have found it very hard to choose just 6. I think from this book I am going for the 91 and a half reasons why it can’t be true. It speaks to me of holding on to every little meaningful moment of being aware yet unaware of the temporary nature of life. The recall of evidence, the sense of unbelief, it comes across so well in such a short piece. Dreena Collins is one of my favourite short story writers – read this and you will know why.
A good Sunday afternoon read. These six very short stories take you into various people's hearts and minds, from a small child who has an interesting visitor while being made to keep to their room while Mum has a party, to an octogenarian who knows what he sees. This last was my favourite, touching to the point of heart breaking. Some of these stories are prize-winning and I can see why. Dreena Collins delves deep into the hearts and minds of her characters, and writes about what she finds with sympathy and style.
Six marvelous short stories. The characters and their presence in each tale were beautifully crafted by the award winning storyteller. I found them to be deep and interesting as I read each one, wondering where the stories would take me. If you are looking for a worthwhile, quick read to get your reading fix, I recommend Taste. You will not be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. The author has an engaging style that draws you in. I really liked the "Why It Can't Be True" story but they all are fantastic. A great read for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
