When Gao Shi De (高仕德) left for the US because his mother is getting remarried to an American, what was supposed to be 2 months of separation for Zhou Shu Yi (周書逸) and Shi De ended up being 5 years due to a series of miscommunication and misunderstandings. Now back in Taiwan and the CEO of his family’s tech firm, Gao Shi De is in the midst of sorting out the terms of his company’s buyout. When the buyer’s representative shows up, it is none other than Zhou Shu Yi, who is now the vice president of his father’s company. They immediately clash upon their first meeting in 5 years amidst the tension of their broken relationship.
So this is season 2 of “We Best Love” and is called “Fighting Mr 2nd” but the Chinese title roughly translates to “The Counter-attack of Mr 2nd”.
We transition from campus life to the workforce. There were some emotionally charged scenes with high tension and explosive confrontations between Shi De and Shu Yi, culminating in a climax that saw a drunk and emotional Shi De break down from Shu Yi’s mind games. That scene felt a little controversial but it was also very compelling. I was totally riveted, breathless at the edge of my seat wondering how far they would take it. Absolutely stellar acting by Sam Lin 林子閎 and Yu 楊宇騰 with sizzling chemistry that is off the charts.
I was a little frustrated by the reason and events that led to their separation, which is rather typical of an Asian romance drama with a lead that's from a rich family. And of course, all the misunderstandings could have been resolved if only they had decided to, you know, COMMUNICATE.
I enjoyed the friendship and romance of the side characters and was particularly curious about the relationship between Pei Shou Yi (裴守一), who has affective disorder, and Yu Zhen Xuan (余真軒), who has Asperger’s. Mad praise for Shih Chih-tian 石知田 who played Yu Zhen Xuan. To be honest, the entire cast acted really, really well! Kudos to them!
There were some parts of the drama that I felt were missing (Liu Bing Wei 劉秉偉 & Shi Zhe Yu 石哲宇’s story? The American girl?) but were thankfully shown in the novel. I ❤️ the extras & additional insights from the novel. All in all, I ADORE the drama. The novel was a great supplement to an already fantastic show.
