Summer heat can make more than the thermometer rise. As temperatures go up, tempers can too. When you combine that to the weight of the spotlight, an abusive ex, drugs, and lies, it can make a heat that even the coolest Kitten can’t avoid. Fearing for her life, Maggie Doppler arrives at The Twelve Palms Hotel battered, beaten, and seeking a safe place to heal. She finds everything she is looking for plus more in an expected new friend and an unexpected new home.
There are some really good things about this book, the relationships are sweet. I love how protective Charlie is of Maggie. It’s just a little hard to believe that she’s not more recognisable as the famous singer of a popular band that everyone seems to know…
The flashbacks from the music are great to give us a bit of background of what happened to Maggie. I think that was really important for the reader to help them understand how she got where she was.
It was good to see her settle into high-school and get the chance to act like a real teenager.
