A television crew from a monster-hunting show arrives at Lake Nahuel Huapi in Argentina to search for a legendary cryptid known as Nahuelito. Local legends tell of the lake monster, but also of something far more sinister. What they find is something far worse than anything they could ever imagine. Something utterly unnatural, with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. When the crew goes missing, Argentinian military divers go looking for them only to vanish as well. When the Wild Hunt’s Cryptid Assessment Team arrives at the lake, they soon discover the creatures are not only real but are connected to a secret enclave on the north end of the lake. The more they dig, the more they discover rumors that certain High-Ranking members of the Nazi Party might have escaped Germany during the last days of World War Two and found their way to Argentina. To make matters worse, factions are moving against them at every turn. Factions within the Argentine Government, factions of creatures, and shadows within the Wild Hunt, itself. Can they stop the creatures while preventing the return of the Third Reich?

A missing monster hunting group sends team Odins scout team to Argentina to check it out. They are there courtesy of the Argentine government or are they? They uncover an attempt to sabotage their plane by supposed Argentine government agents. They find a lot more going on when they get to their location involving Nazi experiments and some persons of interest who are still alive and well. They call in the full wild hunt team to airborne insert their location and take out the Nazi hive. The shark men who were the ones who took out the monster hunters. The battle turns into a vicious fight in the underground lair followed by a dog fight with vintage WWII aircraft. Fast paced read with a lot going on.
So I normally read horror and SY FI but tripped over these stories full of military terms and guns ,call signs etc but was pleasantly surprised how much I loved them it goes to show a good author that tells a good story can blur the lines I hope you write more I also read the 3 other series they do not have to be read in any order I’d really like to read more about Gideon and grey eagles grandfather and of course Clark as well as team Odin The piano was a great end and wrapping up the whole hitler got away was so great I think he just might be one of the few most hated beings that ever walked can’t wait to read what comes next
This was a pretty good story. I enjoy the monster hunters and the monsters. I thought the part about the Nazis was a little far fetched but oh well. I was disappointed in the plot point about whether or not Clark would cheat on his wife. Previous books set him up as such a good guy that was madly in love with his wife and I think it was a disservice to throw all of that irrelevant stuff into the middle of this story, as it served no purpose. Plus, another irrelevant statement dissing my favorite Star Trek show (Voyager) was annoying too. Other than that, ok story.
There is a lot in this book and I almost want to make it down to 3 but it was entertaining so 4. These people act like special forces kind of … except when they can sleep together and no one cares and it doesn’t affect group cohesion. Clark has also become a Mary Sue, he can play the piano amazing enough to impress adolf hitler and can dog fight in ww2 planes. Literally the best at everything and even managed to kill hitler. He doesn’t seem real to me because of that. Wish we had a whole book on Gideon instead of his history just thrown in here. Just so Much …
I'll admit I've been impatiently waiting for this book. Unfortunately things like work, and family kept getting in the way, so I couldn't read it all at once. I loved the twists in this one. The fast pace and the almost nonstop action makes it a winner. I can't wait to see where the International Team goes from here. The only problem is I now have to wait forever for the next in the series. I highly recommend reading the Lakeview Man books and the Apex Predator series for some great back story for some of the characyers.
I have fallen in love with this series. It has by far the best characters, monsters, and plot lines. The characters have been well developed to the point where you feel like you are a member of team Odin. I can't remember a series of books I have enjoyed more and anticipated more for each new team assignment. I have also loved the side stories with Greyeagle and his grandfather and the shapeshifters. Not a bad book in the bunch. Keep them coming!
I enjoy the imagination and the characters that weave through the books. On the downside having a character be killed in a previous book just to be in the next one is a flaw on the author's part. Additionally a spouse that was dead also showed up at the end so it was poor continuity and no they were not zombies... lol. Due to the fact that the characters are engaging and otherwise the book delivers I can overlook the errors but I hope this doesn't become a consistent flaw. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This was a real kicker. I was floored! Who would have thought this would ever happen? Blew me away. The story moved at warp speed. The ending was unbelievable. I could not imagine looking for the person that got away. The predators were right out of the scariest creatures that you could imagine multiplied by ten. I hope no government ever tries that for real. The plot was well thought out. The story was really one of his best. Left room for more books in this sequel. Fine by me, I will read them all. Fantastic job of writing.
So I think I've now read every D.A. Roberts book in publication (savage moon, Ragnarok, wild hunt) and I can truly say that I can't think of anyone that consistently puts out product of this quality. The plots, sub-plots, characters, spin-offs (connections), story arcs, memorable scenes, etc. It's astonishing. I'd buy the movie rights if I could. Bravo sir. I hope you can keep it going.
Grabbed "Frontiers, First Hunt" simply because I wanted something new to read. Absolutely fell head over heels and went searching for more. Read "Odin's Call", Operation Lilly &Orher Tales, "Curse of the Wendigo" then this one "Operation Blood Eagle" . I have been sucked into each book with a vengance. Fantastic story lines with exceptional characters. Eagerly awaiting the next Wild Hunt!
If my reviews haven't convinced you to start reading this guy's stuff by now, there's nothing else I
Alright, I gave this one only four stars because it comes close to jumping the shark at times(which is funny, given the presence of shark men) but still maintains the usual high quality of storytelling. I don't want to leave any spoilers, but if you can handle a werebear in a loincloth double wielding miniguns, this is right up your alley. Check it out.
This series in it’s entirety is excellent. The footnotes I find invaluable. The heroes/heroines are intriguing and the characters are very well done. Clark is a man of many talents. An excellent leader and team player who believes in the team and doing the same job his team members do. Reading the books in order to figure out the team and how it works helps so much. Great books.
Another good one. Except for the Heimdall mistake which is really not a biggie when you are trying to juggle as many characters that are in this book it was very good. For those people that said it was a little too implausible think about the entire genre.. It is entertainment and as such does a great job
I would’ve given this book 5 stars, but it didn’t focus as much on creatures. Don’t get me wrong, it is still another harrowing Team Odin adventure. The best part was the joining of the other international soldiers. Looking forward to the next one.
I was hesitant to start this one because I really enjoy his monster hunts and thought this book was a departure from that. Boy am I glade I decided to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and as it turns out, it has plenty of monsters :) If you like reading Roberts this is another one you're sure to enjoy.
The story started out about "sharkmen" and gave us whole nother storyline related to the Hitler Regime!! Hope you come forward with another book about this adventurous group of warriors!!
Very interesting plot. Fast action good character development. Hard to say much without giving away the story. Can’t wait to read the next one in series.
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
Another great installament in the Wild Hunt serie, this time international monster hunting groups works togheter to fight monsters and nazies in South America, i really liked this one
Just finished describing this book as a cross between Dirk Pitt and Monster Hunter International. Dunno if the author was going for that, but never a dull moment and a hell of an imagination.
I don't usually like Monster type books I'm more into science fiction with space connotations. But this series that shows the camaraderie Of the group And the descriptions Our fabulous you made me a believer I hope you continue to write more in this genre
Another well done entry into the world of monster hunters. These get better and better. As usual it had me hitting the footnotes and looking things up to learn more. Scary moments along with humor, few errors . very enjoyable.
A different kind of story, but well written, a great story and a great cast of characters. I really liked the characters in this book, they drew me in and I couldn't put it down
The team head to Argentina where a film crew went missing after encountering sharkmen in a lake. They find more than sharkmen and need reinforcements to defeat their adversaries.
I have always been a fan of both military novels and the typical vampire or werewolf stories. D. A. Roberts brings these two together in an intriguing way. He even adds a sci-fi element of technology into the mix.
After the werewolf hunter, i was like “What next?” Well…. D.A.Roberts is my new favorite author. Fucking awesome series of books. Well written and chocked full of action.
Ok I've read the other books that are part of this sequence and they were pretty good, but this one I just couldn't get into it. Too much going on and the action and monsters were just not with it.
Another great installment in the team Odin series I downloaded as soon as it dropped I was not disappointed the new characters add a new depth love it Thanks DA
