I've been in sales for 8 years now and I've read many books on the subject.
The great majority is full of sh*t, books written by people who probably never sold a pen (or sold for a while and gave up on it to start selling unrealistic sales courses).
This book is different, direct to the point, no BS or useless repetition of concepts and done by a guy who keeps working in the industry.
Amazing advice not only for someone who's willing to build an agency, but anyone who's interested in sales.

Great book and a must-have/read for any agency owner regardless of your current agency stage. Nowadays, it's easy to get lost in the crow with so many gurus that offer help in business growth even if they never actually run a successful agency themselves.

This book and Josh’s teachings have made a dramatic impact on my digital agency. We are on track to hit the $1M mark in Q1 of 2020! This is a must read for any agency owner of any size.

I have owned an agency for nearly 15 years and have seen a lot of materials (especially lately) from "gurus" that come out of nowhere telling you how to build an agency. I don't pay too much attention to most of them but decided to go ahead and get this book because the author offered a free copy (plus shipping of course!)
One thing I will tell you is that unlike a lot of the "gurus" these days, I could tell right away that Josh has run an agency. I also found it refreshing that he goes just as in-depth about client onboarding and retention as he does about sales. All of that is very important in building a SUSTAINABLE business. I even kept a few takeaways.
If you're on the fence, download the free kindle version, and I am pretty sure you will, like I did, purchase the physical book to keep on your shelf.

Josh is one of the few within the Digital Marketing Agency space that actually DOES what he TEACHES. Trust me... about 90% of the people that teach - have stopped actually doing.

Josh provides so much value in his book. If you cant grow your marketing business after reading this book and doing the work then it's most likely you not taking enough action. I highly recommend!

All the 5-star reviews here are a little over the top. This is a semi-useful manual but it's not a perfect book by any means. It is very US-centric, for one (e.g., the "InfoUSA" tool mentioned is only potentially useful to US agencies). It's a bit overly wordy in parts with some general typical business book platitudes at the beginning like "set goals!"... OK, thanks for that. Josh's outreach/lead generation tactics are also pretty basic: he suggests going to in-person trade shows and schmoozing with people but I think that isn't particularly of interest to many marketers (especially more introverted ones) and it just isn't very useful advice. I also think his approach of creating one article and then essentially duplicating that across many clients is dubious. This could trigger near-duplicate content issues on Google and I find it hard to believe that clients won't mind seeing their competitors (assuming it's the same niche) have almost the same content as them.
Josh's overall "recipe" does seem to make sense, though, and he has clearly been successful with it. The notion that you should focus on one specific niche is something I've been reluctant to accept but maybe that is the right approach. It also makes sense to charge a minimum of $1K/month and only do recurring revenue based on a specific package. This specific package (2 or 3 core offerings) should likely be a combination of SEO and paid. Avoid the temptation to offer ad hoc/a la carte. This means saying no to many potential opportunities and that takes discipline. Also, don't allow clients to pay by check -- it's recurring online/credit card deposits or no deal.

This is an excellent book, and Josh is the real deal. One of the most practical business and marketing coaches I've ever encountered, and true to form, he's extremely practical throughout the entirety of this book.
Josh is a supreme example of actual implementation (not just philosophizing) in his own agency, and he heavily emphasizes that in his coaching of other marketing agencies, and he aids the reader of this book in doing so as well.
With my business partner, I've been in the industry, building and running a successful marketing agency for almost 13 years, and consuming all the great training and coaching I can -- and I wholeheartedly recommend every resource Josh produces and offers to marketing agencies. He's a uniquely capable and trustworthy guide to building a successful marketing agency, whether you're just getting started, or already successful, or somewhere in between.
And this book really is an excellent distillation of his Roadmap. He's wisely put it together based on all of his own hard-earned experience from failure to success with building his own agencies, and as an active practitioner, and as a coach actively working closely with many dozens of marketing agencies, from startups to multiple seven figures in revenue.

Look, this book isn’t war and peace, but what it is, is straight forward advice from someone who runs and agency. In an ideal world, the steps outlined in this book will work as expected, but they are not a step by step tutorial. They are a actionable set of tasks you can create and then amend to make your agency successful.
Is it the only way? No. But this was a good look into the processes Josh uses to grow his business.
While I don’t agree with his stance on social media marketing, that isn’t the business he is in. It’s dismissive of the industry as a way to get customers but that is because he doesn’t see value in it. This is perfectly acceptable. It isn’t his niche.
This is a book about building and growing an SEO web based agency. It is not a book about a creative or ad agency. I enjoyed it, took a tonne of notes, and will now go through it and implement some of the actions I am not currently doing. It won’t help you if you aren’t serious about business but it will help if you want to take your business to the next level.
As with any book in the space, there is some pushing for joining the authors mastermind / group, but I honestly didn’t feel like it was too much. It felt like the perfect amount actually. I like the summary sections, and there was very little marketing jargon.

Wow. This book is so completely comprehensive and transparent. Transparent in the fact that Josh gives examples from his own agency. Literally, he says, "this is how we do this" or "these are our packages". Everything you'd need to know, is in this book.
He goes into detail on a variety of topics from landing clients to delivery results. I was particularly interested in pricing as I had no clue how to put together my offer. His information just went over and beyond my expectations. I'm so thankful I found his group and program first. It's all I need to get started and succeed.

An absolute must read for any digital marketing agency owner. Nelson doesn’t just give you his promised step by step guide on scaling your agency to 7 figures, but actually shares many detailed secrets of success in his own agency.
I love how the book is broken down into 3 primary parts. Landing clients, delivering results and retaining clients. With each part having multiple chapters going into immense detail on what you should be doing as an agency owner, in proper order. This creates a great flow while reading.
Despite having a decent amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes, the book is still very easy to read and an absolute goldmine of a guide to starting and running a successful agency. Nelson has made me rethink several key areas and strategies of my own agency and I will gladly make some well needed adjustments in order to better scale my company.

Un excelente libro que no solo te da consejos para iniciar y crecer una agencia de marketing, sino los consejos y enseñanzas te sirven para cualquier otro tipo de negocio. Me gustó bastante el libro porque es muy práctico todo lo que te dice y te ayuda a ponerlo en práctica, de forma que no se queden tus conocimientos en el libro, sino que los apliques.
Hay muchos ejemplos reales de personas que utilizando este método lograron el éxito y si me cambió la mentalidad de lo que yo pensaba podría ser el camino “correcto” para iniciar una agencia de marketing.
Muy fácil de leer y todo el contenido es bastante relevante y entretenido. Lo recomiendo bastante para aplicarlo, más que para solamente leerlo.

To be honest, I am always quite skeptical of these marketing gurus that are selling courses to people without experience in the marketing industry. However, coming from a decade of advertising experience, I will say the content in this book is spot on. Fancy fails and simple scales. That's what the general premise of this book is, along with various channels to promote your agency. It's a must read. It will not teach you how to do the work, nor should it. Instead, it helps elevate your abilities and skills around client acquisition, an area that so many agencies struggle to excel in.

The best thing i ever did was to read this book , i am 20 years old who hasn’t lived enough to learn from experience but i just graduated from college a 2 year degree and i get the job done so well that i wanted to start my own startup (software development and digital marketing my idea) i searched for a book like this i found this i read it there is nothing sketchy everything is written is pure experience from Mr.Josh Nelson i now know how things goes in this type of business its amazing how much a person can learn from one amazing book ! ,

Worth another read
I picked up this book as a recommendation from a white label company. Knowing nothing about digital marketing this book really taught me a lot. It’s too soon for me to say exactly what I’ve been able to do with this information but it provides a roadmap whether your just starting out, or have been at this for a while and are struggling.
One of the major points of the book is the importance of niching down and specializing in serving a specific vertical, like plumbing. This will allow you to avoid running yourself into the ground trying to serve anyone who’s willing to hire you.

I love this book and I have learned so much from it.
I really liked this book because Josh added real world lessons of what he went through. I also liked that he has different clients information about there struggles and success. Josh really went into a lot of details about every little step to take and he explains why. This book is great for digitial marketing but he also talks alot about business devlopment. How you need to set up the right processes and procedures. This book is also a good book for business owners as well. He talks about sales, marketing, and how to set things up right the first time.

When you see "How to" and "Million Dollar" in a title, you feel a bit skeptical. I was too. But what I read quickly changed my mind.
First, proof. The author is the owner of a 4 Million Dollar agency and the evidence can be found by Googling his Inc 5000 awards.
Second, it's all here. His entire strategy is laid out. This is not a teaser to buy an info product. If you want to learn his strategies for client acquisition, services fulfillment and client retention - just read the book.
Josh lays out his strategies clearly and the book is easy to read.

I found this book in the Amazon store and bought it immediately, as I am on my journey to start my own agency being a freelancer for years. No doubt this is the best book in this category and will help anyone who wants to start his own agency. What he explained in this book is his experience running two agencies and how he transformed one of them into a million-dollar company. Make sure that you read it multiple times and take notes to follow the tips mentioned in this book, and I am on my way to launch my agency in a few days of time.

Now that I’ve read it once I’m going back to implement everything I read and get my agency making 7 figures in 1 years time. Sound like a long time? It isn’t! Great book full of insights to help you grow your Digital Marketing Agency

I think this is an essential book for anyone looking to run or grow an agency. It's clear that Josh knows what he's talking about, and while there are some parts of his formula that I want to try differently, clearly he has had success and I have not yet, so the jury is still out on whether there is better/equal way of doing things.
If you follow the formula to the letter and don't want to add anything new, I'm confident you would almost surely see success.

This book is a great resource! I found myself taking a lot of notes and bookmarking the recommended tools and resources. I especially loved the on-boarding chapters. Josh provided some really good ideas that I plan to implement. I highly recommend this book to other entrepreneurs! It really helps shape your approach and mindset about business.

Sounds cliche but this book changed my life. It does an amazing job of mapping out everything in a simple step-by-step way. You will do very well if you apply what Josh says to do in this book. I built my agency to 6 figures in 12 months whilst working with clients I genuinely enjoy working with and appreciate the value we deliver. Win win.

Yes, the book is a bit of an infomercial for the follow on training. Heck, the author is just working his own plan in vertical two! The tactics and suggestions work. Nothing in here is rocket science, or easy, but the roadmap will get you where you need to go if you can keep moving and focused on the road ahead.

If you run a digital agency and want to grow it but have been frustrated by process, this book is literally a roadmap. I have been working with a business coach for a couple of years and he got me organized, but was unable to show me the path to the final goal of a scalable agency. This book has those processes and steps.

I read this book in about 3 days. It had excellent practical advice and examples. Josh doesn't hold anything back, he gives full details on the inner workings of his agency, the tools and pricing they use and conversion rates.
It really inspired me to re-do the business structure of my company and product offerings, and made me see agency business in a whole new way.
