I've been in sales for 8 years now and I've read many books on the subject. The great majority is full of sh*t, books written by people who probably never sold a pen (or sold for a while and gave up on it to start selling unrealistic sales courses).
This book is different, direct to the point, no BS or useless repetition of concepts and done by a guy who keeps working in the industry.

I have owned an agency for nearly 15 years and have seen a lot of materials (especially lately) from "gurus" that come out of nowhere telling you how to build an agency. I don't pay too much attention to most of them but decided to go ahead and get this book because the author offered a free copy (plus shipping of course!)
One thing I will tell you is that unlike a lot of the "gurus" these days, I could tell right away that Josh has run an agency. I also found it refreshing that he goes just as in-depth about client onboarding and retention as he does about sales. All of that is very important in building a SUSTAINABLE business. All the 5-star reviews here are a little over the top. This is a semi-useful manual but it's not a perfect book by any means. It is very US-centric, for one (e.g., the "InfoUSA" tool mentioned is only potentially useful to US agencies). It's a bit overly wordy in parts with some general typical business book platitudes at the beginning like "set goals!"... OK, thanks for that. Josh's outreach/lead generation tactics are also pretty basic: he suggests going to in-person trade shows and schmoozing with people but I think that isn't particularly of interest to many marketers (especially more introverted ones) and it just isn't very useful advice. I also think his approach of creating one article and then essentially duplicating that across many clients is dubious. This could trigger near-duplicate content issues on Google and I find it hard to believe that clients won't mind seeing their competitors (assuming it's the same niche) have almost the same content as them.
Josh's overall "recipe" does seem to make sense, though, and he has clearly been successful with it. The notion that you should focus on one specific niche is something I've been reluctant to accept but maybe that is the right approach. It also makes sense to charge a minimum of $1K/month and only do recurring revenue based on a specific package. This specific package (2 or 3 core offerings) should likely be a combination of SEO and paid. Avoid the temptation to offer ad hoc/a la carte. This means saying no to many potential opportunities and that takes discipline. Also, don't allow clients to pay by check -- it's recurring online/credit card deposits or no deal.
This is an excellent book, and Josh is the real deal. One of the most practical business and marketing coaches I've ever encountered, and true to form, he's extremely practical throughout the entirety of this book.
Josh is a supreme example of actual implementation (not just philosophizing) in his own agency, and he heavily emphasizes that in his coaching of other marketing agencies, and he aids the reader of this book in doing so as well.

Look, this book isn’t war and peace, but what it is, is straight forward advice from someone who runs and agency. In an ideal world, the steps outlined in this book will work as expected, but they are not a step by step tutorial. They are a actionable set of tasks you can create and then amend to make your agency successful.
Is it the only way? No. But this was a good look into the processes Josh uses to grow his business.
While I don’t agree with his stance on social media marketing, that isn’t the business he is in. It’s dismissive of the industry as a way to get customers but that is because he doesn’t see value in it. This is perfectly acceptable. It isn’t his niche.
This is a book about building and growing an SEO web based agency. It is not a book about a creative or ad agency. I enjoyed it, took a tonne of notes, and will now go through it and implement some of the actions I am not currently doing. It won’t help you if you aren’t serious about business but it will help if you want to take your business to the next level.
As with any book in the space, there is some pushing for joining the authors mastermind / group, but I honestly didn’t feel like it was too much. It felt like the perfect amount actually. I like the summary sections, and there was very little marketing jargon.
I met Josh face to face without precedent for late 2016 at a Power Day where he shared each part of what his organization was doing to give results to his customers. Strikingly enough, Josh and I were in a preparation program in 2012 or thereabouts. He and I were continually partaking in that gathering. At that point, I kind of forgot about him until I was in his gathering room in October 2016.
Curiously enough, I had developed my Digital Marketing Ottawa business to over $600k and was exceptionally pleased with my achievements in those 4 years. I love how the book is broken down into 3 primary parts. Landing clients, delivering results and retaining clients. With each part having multiple chapters going into immense detail on what you should be doing as an agency owner, in proper order. This creates a great flow while reading.
Despite having a decent amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes, the book is still very easy to read and an absolute goldmine of a guide to starting and running a successful agency. Nelson has made me rethink several key areas and strategies of my own agency and I will gladly make some well needed adjustments in order to better scale my company.

I've seen Seven Figure Agency ads for quite some time now (and have contracted some work from someone Josh has mentored). To be honest, I am always quite skeptical of these marketing gurus that are selling courses to people without experience in the marketing industry. However, coming from a decade of advertising experience, I will say the content in this book is spot on. Fancy fails and simple scales. That's what the general premise of this book is, along with various channels to promote your agency. It's a must read. It will not teach you how to do the work, nor should it. Instead, it helps elevate your abilities and skills around client acquisition, an area that so many agencies struggle to excel in.

I picked up this book as a recommendation from a white label company. Knowing nothing about digital marketing this book really taught me a lot. It’s too soon for me to say exactly what I’ve been able to do with this information but it provides a roadmap whether your just starting out, or have been at this for a while and are struggling.
One of the major points of the book is the importance of niching down and specializing in serving a specific vertical, like plumbing. This will allow you to avoid running yourself into the ground trying to serve anyone who’s willing to hire you.

When you see "How to" and "Million Dollar" in a title, you feel a bit skeptical. I was too. But what I read quickly changed my mind. First, proof. The author is the owner of a 4 Million Dollar agency and the evidence can be found by Googling his Inc 5000 awards. Second, it's all here. His entire strategy is laid out. This is not a teaser to buy an info product. If you want to learn his strategies for client acquisition, services fulfillment and client retention - just read the book. Josh lays out his strategies clearly and the book is easy to read. That's it. Highly recommended.

I felt this book was well structured and provided step by step guidance from starting to scaling for anyone looking to start (and even those who already have) a digital marketing agency or just needs some insight on why they may not be producing the results and experiencing the success they expected. Highly recommend this book.
I think this is an essential book for anyone looking to run or grow an agency. It's clear that Josh knows what he's talking about, and while there are some parts of his formula that I want to try differently, clearly he has had success and I have not yet, so the jury is still out on whether there is better/equal way of doing things.
If you follow the formula to the letter and don't want to add anything new, I'm confident you would almost surely see success.

Yes, the book is a bit of an infomercial for the follow on training. Heck, the author is just working his own plan in vertical two! The tactics and suggestions work. Nothing in here is rocket science, or easy, but the roadmap will get you where you need to go if you can keep moving and focused on the road ahead.
