Throughout the competition, Meg and Brek have traveled to three different worlds, changing their lives forever. But as Meg wakes behind the Black Door in the land of Periden, she finds the true creator of the game controlling everyone in his presence, and she’s not sure who she can trust.
As her marriage to Carter approaches, Meg discovers powers within to help her overcome the obstacles set before her. And the first one is sure to break her. Kill her best friend, collect his heart as the final object in the game, or become the hunted.
Searching for Brek, Meg discovers the Shadow Realm, a people with plans to rise up against the Eternals and take back their planet. There’s a battle brewing bigger than anyone can imagine, and Meg must race to put an end to it before Carter puts an end to her.
I have been patiently waiting for this novel with “kid in candy shop’ glee! I am delighted that I was able to hang with Meg and Brek through it all and come out the end with the biggest satisfied grin. It’s hard to review a final book without giving away plot points from the other novels. I feel like there is so much that I want to say but, alas, I will give you the bare minimum and tease you into The Eternal Artifacts series. From start to finish I have adored the creative world building that has traversed different worlds, watching it come together in a beautifully woven storyline tapestry in The Black Door. The tie-ins were perfectly executed, and the revelations kept me flipping pages to know how it all ends.
I really liked the relationship closure that came from the final installment. Well, ok let’s just say that I still have certain feels on certain characters who I had secret growth hopes for… but yea.. still loved the way it rounded out. The villainy was everything I needed it to be, the action and atmospheric tension of events keeps you riveted and the character growth for Meg was what I have been hoping for since The Green Door! I love it when it all basically comes full circle. Especially with past characters that carried through to the end (I’m looking at you Tyran and Esme).
I would’ve liked a slower paced ending and maybe an epilogue after everything. That last moment of the final scene just had me itching for an afterward from Brek and Meg. This was such a fantastic fantasy series with vastly unique elements. I loved the magic, creatures, characters and worlds each door brought forth. All of the thank yous to Heather Kindt for providing me the opportunity to be on her review team for these books and cherish the journey of my two favorite goofballs (ok so Brek is more goofballesque, but still). If you like magical portals, new worlds and action than this series is for you! True rating 4.5/5.
This is the last book in the series and a very exciting, gripping and incredibly fascinating one. Not only has Meg developed new skills, but the world around her has changed massively.
So many mysteries have been solved, so many things make more sense now, but her struggle for survival has also taken to a new dimensions. The conclusion of the series is a struggle of life and death. Who will survive the last day of the omen? Who must die to save others? Whose life must be sacrificed so that others may live in peace? Will her skills be enough to save her loved ones?
This last book was so full of surprises and creepy revelations, but it had to be like that to have the fantastic ending.
Meg's and Brek's story ends not like I expected, but nothing in this series was like I expected 🤷🏻♀️ The crazy adventures that they had and all this unbelievable dramatic developments though the whole story, made them to an even more lovable couple.
I love that the author wrote every book in a way that was unpredictable, gripping and mysterious.
Every one of these books takes you to a different world and on a new dramatic and terrifying adventure. Definitely a must-read page-turner.
I'll definitely read other books by this author. Her imagination is incredible exciting and yes, creepy too 🤣
The author has taken me on another amazing adventure with Megan and Brek. It was fun, compelling, and delightful. The world-building is unique and well-developed while the characters are amusing. You know that an author is good if you, as a reader, can immerse yourself in the story.
The story follows Megan waking up from a strange dream inside the Black Door where a magical world named Periden exists. In Periden, people possess immortality and prosperity. On the other hand, the Eternals, people from Earth, need to regenerate to retain their immortality. Led by an Ancient One named Vihaan, he and the Eternals plan a war against God and His Angels. As the Chosen One, Megan and her friends must find a way to stop Vihaan's evil plans.
The story was action-packed, magical, and entertaining. I love how Megan overcomes any dire and dangerous situations she encounters. The best friends to lovers trope were the best part. Finally, it truly delights me that Esme's parentage unfolds.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I’m very grateful to the author for allowing me to follow Megan and Brek’s journey from the Green Door up to the Black Door.
Many thanks to the author for being so kind and friendly and for allowing me to read and review an eARC of The Black Door. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
**I received a digital ARC of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.**
I have been so excited, but also so sad, for this book! Sad because it’s the end to this fantastic fantasy series that I’ve had the pleasure of reading over the last year.
It’s really hard to review a finale to a series without any spoilers, so let me just say that this book was so good! Kindt has crafted such a unique concept with this series. If portal fantasies are your thing, you definitely need to check this one out!
Meg had so much growth in this final book. I really enjoyed seeing her step up and take charge. It was scary and sad to see her emotions play out, but she handled everything so well! Her character growth throughout this series has been fantastic.
Oh Brek. I just love Brek. I really enjoyed his growth throughout the series as well, and I’m just so so happy how things ended. Esme and Tyran.. my faves. So happy to see how their stories ended as well.
All of the main characters and side characters blended so nicely in this book. Kindt has truly written such a nice, well put together storyline with this series. Everything that previously happened throughout all the doors came together and made for a wild ride of an ending! The writing and storytelling never fails to blow my mind. I’m always completely drawn in and hooked the whole time with each of her books.
This was magical, action packed, and so so fun. This entire series was so much fun to read and I am so thankful to Heather for allowing me to follow Meg and Brek’s journey through all of the doors. I’m so sad their journey is through, but I’m super excited to see what Kindt does next!
Everything we’ve discovered through the previous doors has been leading to this! I could imagine the ending going two ways so I was dying to know which way it would end and I was so glad it went my preferred way!
So many characters, lessons, and moments from the previous books were weaved into this. We discovered why all these things happened and who people are. We get to meet new characters behind the Black Door too and I wish we had been able to spend more time with them.
I still love Esme! She’s my fave of all the characters and I would gladly live behind the Red Door and have her as my Queen.
Meg and Brek are a team not to be messed with. I was so proud of Meg and all her development. By the end she was ready to take charge and get stuff done. Carter was an interesting character. In the first book I thought it was gonna be him I was shipping, but man, that was a rollercoaster.
The ending did just kind of happen really quickly and suddenly everyone was good and heading their separate ways. There was so much build up to the complexities of everyone’s relationships (romantic, friendships, and family) that I would’ve loved for that to be explored more. I actually really wanna see what happens after the big bad is defeated. Our girls gotta be thriving!
This entire series was really enjoyable! I had no idea what to expect behind any of the doors and I became attached to the characters very quickly.
This book was full of suspense and kept me wanting to see what was going to happen next. I didn't like the fact that Marc died , it would have been nice to have him and his sister survived after the death of the eternal leader.
I'll admit I picked up The Green Door as a "maybe this could be interesting" title on Bookbub to start my journey into Heather Kindt's world. I became swept up in the magic behind the doors so I sped read through it then The Red Door and The White Door. So when the chance to get an eARC in exchange for an honest review crossed my inbox for the final book dropped in my inbox, I snagged the opportunity.
This book did not disappoint. The stakes are raised even further behind The Black Door as Meg and her friends race to put an end to the epic battle that the game has been careening towards.
I enjoyed that not everything was not sunshine and rainbows for Meg in Periden. In game terms, every time it seemed like Meg scored a point or advantage, the Eternals weren't far behind in answering.
The conclusion felt satisfying and the book had me guessing until the end. All of my lingering questions were answered, especially about Esme. The villain behind the game was everything I'd hoped for. There were some scenes I had a hard time with because the logic of some things didn't make sense.
All in all, I really enjoyed Meg and Brek's journey through the four doors. While I feel the ending was a bit fast, I would definitely recommend this series and the final book.
I received this and as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Heather Kindt for giving me access.
Heather Kindt does an amazing job of world building. With the previous books, all the worlds are different, unique, and dangerous. The Black Door is no different. This is no longer a game. This is the end of humanity as we know it unless Meg can stop it.
The Black Door is action packed to where you never want to put it down. Something is always happening and you never know if it is going to work in Meg’s favor or the Eternals. I love that Kindt took me on a rollercoaster of emotions in which I thought would leave my heart would be utterly broken….Spoiler alert, my heart is not broken.
Not knowing how this would end, I am completely happy with how this series was wrapped up. This one checks all the boxes for me. I definitely recommend giving this series a read, you won’t be sorry.
Bonus: You get a sneak peek to the spinoff series, The Vradian Academy: The Siren’s Song which follows some characters from the world behind the Green Door.
Thank you Heather for the eARC! So I had some mixed feelings about this book. I absolutely LOVED "The White Door" and after reading this book, I think "The White Door" is still my absolute fav book from this series. I did like how this book ended, everything wrapped up nicely, but there were some things that just didn't click for me. This book is just as action-packed as the last one, but it felt a little bit overwhelming because lots happened. Some plot points were a bit confusing and didn't make sense logically too. I'm glad we got more of Esme though because she's such a sweetheart. If you want more details, check out my full review on my blog wrap-up post on September 1.
