Preston is a city in flames. Communities that have lived side by side for decades are locked in a violent conflict. Yards from a burning mosque, the body of a teenage boy is found hanging from a meat-hook. A sign dangles around his neck, proclaiming his crime. 'Terrorist.' Seasoned detective Ewan Striker is called in to investigate the murder. His enquiries lead him to form an unlikely alliance with rookie cop Tag Westland. Together, they discover dark forces are at work on both sides, and find themselves in a race against time to prevent the biggest terrorist atrocity ever seen on English soil.
Robert White is an Amazon best selling crime fiction author. His first two published novels DIRTY and THE FIX have sold over ten thousand copies and have appeared in the top ten downloaded novels in genre. Robert is an ex cop, who captures the brutality of northern British streets in his work. He combines believable characters, slick plots and vivid dialogue to immerse the reader in his fast paced story-lines. He was born in Leeds, England, the illegitimate son of a jazz musician and a factory girl. He hated school, leaving at age sixteen. He joined Lancashire Constabulary in 1980 and served for fifteen years, his specialism being Tactical Firearms. Robert then spent four years in the Middle East before returning to the UK in 2000. He now lives in Lancashire with his wife Nicola, and his Patterdale terrier dog Flash. His controversial new novel UNREST is available now.
I had a low score in mind at the beginning of this book. There were no page numbers, I thought some of the praise comments were dubious, acronyms to a fault. The characters were well drawn, the plot was very plausible and worth worrying about and there were surprises throughout. White did a great job of making difficult things clear. I did not see the ending coming. The language was somewhat crude and entirely realistic. I usually don't get hooked on a reader after one book, but here I am. Next!
People have compared Robert White to Martina Cole and Lee Child. I disagree. I am an avid Teacher fan and have also read a few Martina Cole books. His books are far more in depth with his knowledge of the police and the military showing on every page. The details he goes into are well researched but put across in a way that anyone can follow them. The stories flick from person to person but you never lose the storyline and everything comes together in a neat little package at the end. I can't wait for his next Striker book. I highly recommend all the books by Robert White
Iread striker book 2 before this one found it so riveting could not wait to read book ,1 to date there is no more striker books I hope fervently they will not be the only ones after reading the Rick Fuller series my admiration for this author knows no bounds read any of his books and you will be well and truly hooked
I really didn't know what to expect from this book, but it was a very clever written plot with unexpected twists and turns that are intertwined throughout...a book that I didn't want to end but was not disappointmented with the outcome....this author is now on my to read list ...well done Robert White xx
This was a gripping read with lots going on throughout. In my humble opinion I've read books from this author that supercede this one, however it was stil authentic, very entertaining born I suspect from experience and certainly an book I would read again. Thank you for another good read.

Very good read and close to the wire in terms of how life is nowadays .. There are your good guys , bent politicians and those that are just evil and take take take . Thoroughly enjoyed Unrest.
A very in depth read having read rick series and really enjoyed the series .This was just as informative an enjoyed shame about Tag thought they made a great team he was brave and a great character and would have liked to see more of him in this series .
What an incredible read from a very talented author and I was hooked to this book from the very first page and I can't wait to read more from this author
Crime thriller with lots of macho action, centred on unrest, terrorism and racism in Preston, with shadowy players as well as police and politicians involved.
Hands up a little bias as the novel does feature my hometown of Leyland, but the accuracy of locations in an around Preston where the novel is set, sets the scene for the tension in the plot.. Having read a few of the authors books, can thoroughly recommend his novels..
Realistic, particularly as the author used real political personalities, eg Cameron. The whole scenario, poorly resourced Police Force, unsustainable numbers of a non-indigenous population and the honest characterisation of our own indigenous criminal class, made for a gripping read. And a worrying read.
