Defining Gravity #1-3

The Defining Gravity Collection: Books 1-3

Rate this book
Book Fifteen-year-old Astrid never breaks the rules; she’s much too terrified of her overbearing father to step out of line. He controls her weight, her friends, and even her career path. And he doesn’t approve of anyone in their family thinking for themselves. When one impulsive decision ends in disaster, Astrid is grounded for the summer, forced to put her archery career on hold and take a menial job cleaning stalls at a posh dressage barn. It takes a little horse named Quarry and a quirky cast of characters to banish Astrid's unhappiness and show her that she is worth something. But when her father steps in, once again, everything Astrid has grown to love is threatened. Author's The Defining Gravity series is set in Canada so some of the terms, phrases and spelling conventions might seem unfamiliar at first to American readers. We use a variation of British English so you may notice some differences; favour vs. favor, colour vs. color, centre vs center, pyjamas vs. pajamas etc. etc. Book Astrid doesn’t argue when she’s exiled to the wilds of northern Canada to stay on her long-lost aunt’s ranch. It seems like as good a place as any for both her and Folly to heal after their horrific accident. Especially since Folly is angrier and more dangerous than ever. But life in the country is full of surprises; real-life cowboys, a failing archery team that needs her help, and a funny horse named Red who would rather nap than work. The path to fixing Folly isn’t easy and as Astrid grows increasingly terrified of her volatile horse she realizes she’ll need to reach out to the people who care about her if she wants to come out of this situation alive. Book Moving back to Vancouver Island with her new horse, Red, seemed like a good idea at the time but now Astrid is seriously doubting her decision. Her family is just as crazy as ever, her archery career is taking a path she doesn’t like and her best friend Hilary is acting so strange. The only solid thing in her life is the horses and her friend Rob who is turning out to be someone she doesn’t want to lose. But when life at home becomes unbearable Astrid has to decide if finally standing up for herself is worth risking everything. Happy Reading! Genevieve

What a terrific book!!!!!

This should be required reading for all horse crazy girls! There is so much to learn and it's a joy to read as well. All girls don't have the problems Astrid does but many do. It's good to know others go through the same troubles. The only thing I wanted as a girl was to have a horse but my family didn't agree. J was so desperate that I got married at 15 just so I could have a horse. Take my word for it, don't make that mistake after 3 years of being beat on a regular basis wasn't worth it. After I got pregnant at 17 I had to run home to protect myself and my baby. It was years before I owned another horse but I did eventually and had many years of luvly horse fun before I had to give up riding due to disability. Wait it out until you can do it the right way. But hold on to your dreams. There is no friend like a good horse. This series of books would make a great gift for any horse crazy person, be they female or male! Highly recommended,
