Gorgeous. Rugged. Playmaker. Casanova…
All those names apply to Darren Walters. Yes, he’s cocky too.
How can you not be when you look and play like him?

The beginning of college should be the start of something new.
Yet, here I am still stuck crushing on the star quarterback of the college team,
and my older brother’s best friend - Darren.
I’m sure he’s always seen me as the nerdy younger sister type.
Oh, and did I forget to mention that I’m still a virgin and have no idea about guys?
I know… I'm hopeless.

Darren promised my brother that he’d look out for me and protect me.
The best thing I can come up with is to have him coach me how to date.

Coach me to say all the right things,
kiss the right way,
and when we’re alone…

Sigh, if only our love story was that simple.

You'll love this book and the characters. A sweet romantic comedy that will have you laughing until you cry. Serena had crushed on Darren her brother's best friend for years. He was the college star quarterback and she was an inexperienced freshman. Her brother had asked him to keep a check on her. He had always considered her a little sister but that began to change when she asked him to teach her about men. Some of the scenes where he was teaching her about sex were hilarious. The author does a wonderful job with this story. It has a good flow to it and the characters are well developed. No shortage of steamy scenes and a happy ending with no cliffhanger. Hunter Rose kept me invested in Darren and Serena's story. Darren, the college star quarterback, doesn't realize that his best friend's little sister is all grown up until he sees her on campus. Serena has had a crush on him for years. Although they have others trying to keep them apart, they refuse to give up.

Serena is off to her first year of college, where she is fortunate enough to room with Katie, a little bit more experienced and adventurous than the shy, nerdy Serena. At Katie’s suggestion, they head off for something to eat and a game of pool where Serena meets up with Darren, her brother’s best friend, and her only crush, who always treated her like his little sister. Good-looking Darren is the school’s star quarterback, a player when it comes to women, but according to Serena, she is someone who he would never notice. Nothing can be further from the truth because notice her he does. He reacts when his football buddies start to take an interest and can’t understand why he feels this way. She is like a sister to him; he should not want to spend time with her. But he does, and even with all his experience with women, he doesn't know how to approach her. He questions everything he does. She finds a way by convincing him to teach her about men, how to act with them, how to kiss, how to peel away the layers where two people have no doubts, and then the magic begins.

I love this author’s writing. He has the knack for putting a different voice in his stories according to the age era by the type of language he uses. This is my type of book--romantic comedy--because I found this book very humorous, some of it subtle and some downright laugh-out-loud funny. For example, when I read the chapter on Serena giving her first blowjob to Darren, I had tears running down my cheeks. Their first time together was like a comedy routine and an amusing break as the story started to intensify.

This book was such a pleasure to read. It is a very smooth and sweet love story of a girl coming of age with a boy whom she has crushed on since childhood. Watching how the confident Darren keeps tripping until he is finally able to catch the spunky Serena was engaging and fascinating. I love the teasing and witty dialogue that Hunter excels in and so many well-written and passionate segments that make the reader stop and think. The sex scenes are very hot and steamy: I kept a glass of water with me because there was smoke erupting from my eBook and I was concerned that it might explode.

And as an author should, his voice is his camera. His description is vivid and expressive, capturing the souls of his characters and his scenes. We see what he wants us to see because his words are arresting as they freeze us in the moment. And that is the epitome of a good author.

Review for Coached

Firstly you’re kind of dropped into the middle of a scene not exactly sure where you are/what’s going on. But it quickly recovers! Serena is being dropped off at college and about to meet her new roommate Katie, they become Insta-bffs and honestly Katie is amazing at getting Serena to push herself, into that stretch-zone.

On the first night at college, Serena runs into her older brother (Lance’s) best friend Darren, who she’s always had a major crush on. Darren is immediately conflicted with adult feelings for Serena, instead of big brother/little sis relationship. We actually get to see inside both Darren and Serena’s heads with how they’re feeling not only about themselves but the situation. Serena and Darren both have feelings for each other but are nervous about their past brother/sisterish relationship, as well of afraid of rejection and losing the other one. Serena is all about the books, and has missed out on a lot. Darren knows this and try’s to protect her from all the bad things in the world, that could harm her “innocent, trusting heart” (how Darren feels). Serena is nervous around guys, and asks Darren for help in that department, he agrees and kisses her. There was an explosion of fireworks which left both parties not only wanting more, but also questioning their previous relationship.

With this being said, Darren agrees to help Serena on coming out of her shell with guys, but they need to set down some ground rules. They end up going all the way, and end up admitting they’ve been denying their feelings and kidding themselves.
Something major happens, between them, Darren gets punched. Darren punches someone, Serena gets hurt and ends up at the hospital. Darren finds out something life changing. And even more! This story is jam packed! I have to say, I never liked Martin and thought he was creepy.

I just wish we would have gotten more from the story, there was so much more potential for their happy ending and only leaves me with more questions. I’m hoping we get a second book for the rest of Darren and Serena’s HEA. As it kind of seems like it’s unfinished to me.

All in all, I really enjoyed getting to read this book from both Serena and Darren’s POV so the story is very well-rounded and very immersive.

I voluntarily reviewed Coached after receiving a free ARC. This is the first book I’ve read from author Hunter Rose and was completely drawn in to the story. I read the 300+ page novel in one day. I’ve never done that before! I was so so sad 😭 when I reached the end because I wanted more. I’ve resigned myself to anxiously await the release of her next books in this series.

Coached is a sweet college romance of two childhood friends who unexpectedly discover trust, comfort and love in each other. This book contains a lot of emotion and is romantically charged with Scorching-Hot-Steam 🔥🔥🔥.

Serena is a freshman in college and is hoping to transform her life from the nerdy, awkward, shy, virgin to a confident, social, independent and experienced woman. However, the wind is quickly taken from her sail when she spots her high school crush/bully Darren which just so happens to be her brothers best friend. Darren is a junior star football quarterback, gorgeous, rugged with a playmaker reputation and definitely not the dating type. He is completely captivated and feels the intense emotional pull to protect and possess her. Unfortunately, because she’s his best friends little sister, she’s off-limits. He also made a promise to look out for her.

The author skillfully illustrates with such beauty and passion the first union between Serena and Darren. Ms. Rose describes it as “two bodies united and fused into one, their souls flying on a higher plane that some would claim was on the verge of the divine.” Takes my breath away on how profound and deep their emotions run. It’s a thing of beauty. Darren is so gentle, cautious, loving and treats Serena with such reverence and wonderment. I swoon with his endearing words and actions and officially claim him by book boyfriend. Applause 👏 to Ms. Rose for genius writing skills.

The story ended abruptly leaving me with unanswered questions and unresolved issues. I’m hoping this is not the end of Serena and Darren’s story. They fought so hard to overcome obstacles and truth be told their beautiful story is just now beginning. Oh please, please, please let this not be their end 🙏.

I have rated this book a 4.5 stars and HIGHLY RECOMMEND–MUST READ!!!

Playboy Jock Changes His Tune for the Naive Girl Next Door

Serena crushed on Darren all through her high school years…. even after he graduated two years before her. You see, Darren practically lived at her house. He was her brother’s best friend. She learned to keep her distance but her feelings never were far away…. he always was close by, at least in her mind.

Darren was a jock, in every sense of the word. He was a player on the field and off the field… and a great quarterback with NFL written all over him once college was over. He became Serena’s self proclaimed protector, at first for her brother but later for himself.

So we have the shy nerd Serena now out of high school going to the same college as Darren. And the conflict begins. Naive Serena is not use to college men, after all she’s never dated, let along been kissed. And yes, she’s innocent but it doesn’t take her long to turn 180 degrees. All it takes is for Darren to exhibit a little interest in her and she’s a changed woman. She’s still naive but now add gullible to the list.

👁 OBSERVATIONS👁

The ending needed more depth, more feeling. It seemed to just end.

I’m not a fan of filling pages with detailed bedroom scenes, especially when unnecessary to the storyline.

Lot of unanswered questions:
… how did they handle Gianna and her ‘setup’ of Serena?
… what happened to Lance? He was there and then just disappeared.
… Martin???? How on earth did he come up with ‘those lines’ to Darren when he only helped her carry in supplies?
… ending rather abrupt, maybe an epilogue giving us a glimpse of their future?
... wanted more character depth, needed to 'feel' for them, not just read about them

Heartbreak is preprogrammed in this story. Young Serena starts studying at the same university where Darren - her brother's best friend and star quarterback - has been for two years already Darren has always been Serena's secret crush and feels torn back and forth ... On the one hand, she wants Darren to be interested in her and perceive her as an experienced and attractive young woman, on the other hand, she feels totally unworthy and overwhelmed by him. Darren from the other side sees Serena for the first time not as a little sister substitute but as an intelligent, strong-willed and beautiful young woman and is very drawn to her. But out of respect for his best friend and Serena's brother and because he sees himself as a player who does not do serious relationships, he plays as a big brother substitute and wants to protect her from all the good-for-nothing, as himself, guys. The future heartbreak looms in the horizon when the two decide to train Serena's awkwardness towards men away. They are good friends who help each other ... with benefits, but without being serious. So they say. But for both of them it is bitterly real. According to the motto: fake it till you make it. There are still a lot of emotional challenges and in the end there is a very satisfying happy ending, but until then you suffer with them in their self-doubts and enjoy the dialogues between the two. A very nice love story.

Coached releases 5/6/21-I was given an advanced copy for an honest review.
High school and now college star quarterback Darren Walters always wanted to make it to the NFL. Having his best friend Lance Nelson and his family as his surrogate family support his dream to attend college, he was given an opportunity that his own parents failed to provide. It was just one look at Serena Nelson, Lance’s little sister, when she first started at college that he knew she would be his. But the conflict and the fact that she is his best friend’s little sister, this is the constant weight Darren stresses. Serena Nelson had a crush on Darren since they were little and being spurned to stop following her older brother and his best friend around; finally made Serena into a full fledge book worm and loner. It was until college and her roommate Katie that Serena allows herself to be her original self and it is wonderful to watch her as she struggles with her self worth and brave confidence in her fear. Many great lines. I could have highlighted the entire book due to the many wonderful lines written. Wonderful story. I did find the ending weak yet acceptable. And the last scene with Gianna unnecessary and no real reason why Darren calls Serena ducky but a wonderful love-filled story.

I received this ebook ARC from the author on the condition that I write an honest review.
College life brings on lots of new surprises for Serena, in her freshman year. She gets an awesome roommate, she re-meets the love of her life, and learns to believe in herself.
Darren is best friends with Serena’s brother. He attends the same college as Serena. He is unaware, that Serena has always had a crush on him, but she has matured, and now he sees the older Serena. There is an immediate attraction between them, but she remembers him as a serial dater. He primary love is football, until he meets Serena. There are several episodes of misunderstandings, that cause the couple to go back and forth with their relationship. Serena has some serious self esteem issues, and these cause her to be withdrawn. After an accident, they both realize how strong their feelings are for each other. An unexpected surprise heals their heart, and eventually they reach their HEA.
This author is a new-to-me-author, but I plan to read more books written by Hunter Rose. The book was heartfelt, with great characters, and a great story.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Although this is a "sports romance" it just mentions football but doesn't focus on the sport as much as other sports romance books do. I like how the story flowed and how you really get and keep the sense of the ages/youth of all the characters by their actions, thoughts, and conversations. The sexy scenes were a tad bit cerebral for for my preference but still fit with the feelings/emotions of Serena and Darren at those times in the story. It was nice that this story had more than one antagonist (Gianna & Martin), this helped keep a real feeling to this story about college students. I hope that Katie and Jake and even Serena's brother Lance get books of their own and that we see more of Serena and Darren in the future.
I gave 4 stars not 5 because even though the story had enough drama to keep my attention the ending fell a bit flat for me all things considered. The was a fair amount of angst and drama with Serena and Darren but there wasn't an epilogue or 2 telling where they were a few months or years down the road which I think would have been a great addition and ending to the story.

The uncertainties of young love
Coached by Hunter Rose is a sweet and steamy young love romance. Darren and Serena have a long history and connection through Serena’s brother. Angst comes into play with feelings of unrequited love, uncertainty and miscommunication. The college setting along with the sports aspect keep the storyline varied, adding interest to the character’s interactions as well as an antagonist. This author took time, building the tension between Darren and Serena, until the ’coaching’ to date becomes one steamy encounter after the other to full blown relationship. I really adored Darren! He got himself together and did not let Serena hide away from him.
Overall, this new adult love romance has the young love highs and lows as well as a forbidden feel with the brother’s best friend element. Darren steps up and proclaims what he wants eventually overcoming the best friend’s little sister hang up when he finally realizes Serena is his HEA.

Serena, 18, is a shy, studious, rule follower who is missing her family and just met her new roommate at college. Her vivacious roommate takes her out and they end up meeting up with Darren, her older brother’s best friend who is a cocky star football player at college, and she gets embarrassed and runs off. Serena had a crush on Darren when she was younger and she is annoyed that he still calls her Ducky. Darren likes Serena and tells himself that he will look out for her for his best friend, her brother, and he agrees to help her gain some experience dealing with men. Will their friendship turn into more when they start spending more time together?

I enjoyed this story where Serena connects at college with her brother’s best friend and he offers to give the shy, innocent Serena experience dealing with men. Darren is a sexy, cocky football player and he becomes involved with Serena. Their story has a lot of ups and downs and the epilogue was a great ending for their story.

Serena is going off college only to find herself still crushing on her brother’s best friend Darren. Darren was a constant all through high school because he practically lived at her house. She kept her feelings to herself and just focused on school. When Serena’s graduates 2 years after her brother and Darren she is going to attend the same college as Darren. When Serena’s brother asks Darren to keep an eye on his little sister, he agrees only he didn’t realize how much she has changed and he soon develops feelings for her. How will he handle falling for his best friends’ sister? Will he continue to fight his feelings?
Hunter did a wonderful job with this story. I loved the characters and the way she brought Darren and Serena together was beautiful. I had moments of laughter and tears and couldn’t help but root for this couple. Hopefully we will get stories on the other characters in the future.

First, I want to thank Hunter Rose for the opportunity to read this book! While this opportunity was given to me, my review and ratings for this book are my own.

I don't really read friends to lovers romance, but this one had me glued. It had the romance, humor, drama, steamy scenes, and great character development.

I loved Katie and her mission to bring Serena out of her shell. Even giving great relationship advice.

I liked the "teaching sessions" to help Serena get more comfortable and not be so awkward, too. I liked their playful relationship. I wish we found out why Darren called Serena "Ducky".

I am rating this one 3.5 because it was a great read but ended so fast. I needed maybe a peek in the future....maybe a few months or year. I think I read somewhere this is the first book in a series so maybe even an announcement of the continued series. I feel like I was left hanging a bit.

This is a great story, though, and I look forward to reading more by Hunter Rose!

Training Serena . . .

Serena has loved Darren Walters, the star quarterback of the college team, since their high school days, but all he saw was his best friend's little sister. So when she goes to the same college as Darren, she expected more of the same attitude. But this time, even Darren is surprised when his reaction is no longer brotherly!

The pace picks up when Serena asks for Darren’s help in coaching her about dating, learning about guys, how to kiss, how to converse, and whatever else he deems important for her to know. With both of them pretending it’s not real, the two are falling in love. When will this all fall apart? All it takes is one misunderstanding. And they have others around them trying to horn in on their relationship. Will they finally communicate and try to figure out what it is they have? Or will they let it collapse under insecurities and doubts?

This is my first book that I've read of Hunter Rose and it won't be my last. This is a young adult (college age) book, Darren and Serena's story. Darren, the college star quarterback and captain, is in his second year of college. He runs into Serena, his best friend's little sister, and immediately feels an attraction. He doesn't want to as he has thought of Serena as a sister and is protective. This is Serena's first year of college and she hasn't seen Darren since he left home. She has had a crush on him for years but never acted on it. She feels so awkward around men since she's never been kissed before or had any relationships. She asks Darren for help "to coach" her how to act around men. It's a cute story and a little angsty but worth a read. I received an advance copy of this book from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This book follows the brother best friend/little sister theme. Serena has loved Darren since high school, but he has never noticed her beyond being his best friend's little sister. That changes when they find themselves at the same college. Darren is drawn to her in ways he can't explain and suddenly the last thing he feels towards her is brotherly affection. There are the usual misunderstandings between the two of them and some cheesy bad guys. I found the plot a little predictable. The writing was a little too flowery for me. I also struggled with Serena. She is a smart woman, yet she behaves incredibly stupid for most of the book. I get that she is more book smart then world smart, but I still found it hard to swallow. I think we are supposed to see her as naive, but she just doesn't come across that way.

I love Serena and Darren! Hunter Rose brought us a sweet and steamy story for sure! Their chemistry is undeniable even if they are denying it! I hope to see more books for the characters in this book or special epilogues! I fell in love with their friends too!

Serena is shy and unsure of herself, even though others clearly see her beauty and she is oblivious. Darren is a reformed ladies man focused on football who has finally noticed Serena is all grown up. Things heat up when they are assigned a special project for business class and undertake a special project of their own. I highly recommend this book! I inhaled it in one day and survived the next on coffee!

Darren, best friend of Lance, agrees to look out for his sister.. NFL on the horizon and enjoys the benefits of being college superstar in the making and especially the girls. Serena, sister to Lance, at same college and inexperienced, has loved Darren from afar for years. The couple get together after she asks him to teach her how to become familiar and comfortable with men. Rivalry in the football team with Martin and unrelenting pursuit by Gianna, unplanned pregnancy and future career are all issues that will either cement or derail their relationship, but happy ending.
He gives no explanation as to why he calls her Ducky, despite she does not like it and she said why she thinks it is....

Serena starts college at the same school as her brother's friend, Darren. Darren determines that he is going to watch out for Serena. However, Darren isn't prepared for a grown up Serena. He agrees to help her gain experience so she is not such an innocent. This starts the two of them down the road to finding something special. However, there is a guy on his team who is jealous of everything Darren does and tries to get him worked up and kicked off the team. A girl named Giana tries to get Darren for herself and sabotages things between Darren and Serena. Great read about young hot college love with all the feels!

Coached by Hunter Rose

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Coached is a good brother best friends/ college sport romance. Serena has always had a crushed on Darren but Darren only thought of Serena his best friend little sister. Until they see each other in Serena’s freshman year of her college. The chemistry between them is incredible. During their journey we get to see Darren finally see Serena and we watch them falling in love but their journey not without misunderstandings and people standing in their way. Will they finally get their hea?

I love the characters in Coached. Serena and Darren are perfect together. Hunter Rose does great with the flow of the story. I really enjoy reading Coached and I will read Hunter Rose again.

This is the first part of the Hunter's Heroes series, and I have to say it's a good start. This is the story of Darren and Serena she has had a secret crush on her brother's best friend for years. It is nice to read how they are doing when they see each other again after so many years, there is a lot in drama, humor, a lot of passion and unexpected turns.

It is a great story and the characters and character are well described, I did miss a little more info on some points, for example an epilogue and that the ending is a bit abrupt, took some getting used to, but beyond that, the book is definitely recommended !!!

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a college romance and book one in Hunters Heros series. Darren is the star quarterback at college and a couple years older than Serena. He promised her brother that he would look out for her. In some ways she is in her element, but in others she might as well have been thrown into the deep end. She needs some advice about dating from the ground up. They have both had a crush on the other for a while but do not admit it until a night together. I thought that this was a sweet love story with some steam in there also. I enjoyed reading it

This was the first book I read by this author and it didn't disappoint! Serena's had a crush on her brother's best friend Darren since she was a teen, but felt he only seen her as a little sister. Once she starts college, she finds that Darren is the star football player for the same school. Meeting again, Darren sees her in a different light as she is now older and more mature, especially with the guidance of Serena's new roommate/friend giving her tips to break out of her shyness. As they spend time together with Darren coaching Serena on the art of dating, he finds that he now has a crush on his best friend's sister, and doesn't want to help her learn to date someone else, now that he wants her for himself.

This book was amazing! I really enjoyed the curveballs that were thrown throughout the novel (and there were plenty). The amount of times I screamed "You two need to stop playing around and just tell each other how you feel" was definitely a lot. I loved that you got to experience both the hero and the heroines point of view throughout the book. The spice was top notch and very descriptive. I felt like I was living through it and not the characters. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read more books by this author.

Darren sees Serena at college, he was her brother's best friend before her brother, Lance, joined the forces. Darren is amazed by how much she's grown up, he's torn between his feelings for her and his need to protect her.
Serena has never been kissed as she's a bit of a nerd, she's had a crush on Darren for years, but hopes that she's hiding it well. Katie is her room mate, she's more of a party girl, and is trying to loosen Serena up.
Then Serena decides she needs lessons on how to be with a boy, she asks Darren for help.

A great read about maturing.

While this story took a bit to really get going, once it did, it was awesome.

I do love a friends to lovers romance, and this one had it all - humor, drama, and lots of heat.

Though, I don't remember learning why Darren called Serena "Ducky", which I would have liked.

Also, the ending was rather abrupt... I needed more - an epilogue. Even a year later, with Darren maybe proposing when the baby is born, letting us know the gender, etc. SOMETHING MORE. I feel like I was left hanging a bit.

Was a great story, though, and I look forward to reading more by Hunter Rose!

This is the 1st book in this series and what a great beginning Darren and Serena’s story is. Serena has crushed on her older brothers’ best friends for years, and when she attends her first year at college, she bumps into star college quarterback Darren on a night out with her roommate. Darren has always treated Serena as a little sister, and he is now seeing her through new eyes, and he is conflicted as his feelings have changed. This is a well written sweet love story, which has witty banter, heartbreak, emotions, and is a humorous, steamy, and entertaining read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Coached is an enjoyable brother’s best friend love story. Serena goes to college to start a new phase. Her roommate is the opposite of her. She convinces Serena to go out. They run into the school's quarterback, Darren, and other football team members. Darren is Serena’s older brother's best friend.

Ok I was a bit disappointed with the way this book ended. I sure hope the author brings these characters back. I really wanted to root for these characters and I have to say the writing was really good. The chemistry within is palpable but in the end I felt like it was rushed a bit and scattered with the ending. All in all I enjoyed this story. It was built as a sports romance but I found it did not really feel like that. It felt to more like a girl next door love story even though the characters are in college. But this story was pretty good.
