Showing Off the Goods

Rate this book
My guy best friend needs a best man, and he’s asking me—a girl.

Not that I’m surprised. We’ve been inseparable since birth. Who else was he going to ask?

Juggling this wedding and being a single mom is going to be a feat.

But I got this.

All is rolling smoothly until my friends shake up another tradition.

Seems the bride is asking a guy to be her maid of honor.

And not just any guy either. Her brother. My ex.

Unfortunately, this guy is hot as hell.

He’s also a demon that crawled right out of those fiery pits. The same pits he sent our relationship to when he chose the military over me.

Now he’s back.

As an underwear model, no less.

How in the world they expect us to work together is beyond me.

But for them, I’d do just about anything.

Even jack up my perfect life that took me years to put back together.

I’m immune to this jerk now. I’m not letting him back in.

All I have to do is work with him for one month. One month to keep my legs shut, my pants up, and my eyes and hands to myself. It’ll be easy, right?

Unless he shows off the goods.

Then I’m in trouble.

Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~ Weston

Hey there. I'm Weston.

Have we met? No? Well it's time to end that tragedy.

I'm a former firefighter/EMS guy who's picked up the proverbial pen and started writing bad boy romance stories. I co-write with my sister, Ali Parker, but live in Texas with my wife, my two little boys, my daughter, two dogs, three cats, and a turtle.

Yep. A turtle. You read that right. Don't be jealous.

You're going to find Billionaires, Bad Boys, Military Guys and loads of sexiness.

Something for everyone, hopefully. I'd love to connect with you. Check out the links below and come find me.

This was a cute, light read, that could have been so much better, but there were some major issues for me.

1. April- she was adorable, but 3-year-olds do not talk like that. The dialog for her came across as much too mature. Also, without having other cousins, a child that age wouldn't say, "I'm going ot have a cousin!" Especially when in the beginning of the story she was confused how getting married making a family. Also--the 3 year old getting her own stuff ready for preschool?

2. There could have been much more character background and development for Colette, especially. We know next to nothing about her except Brett is her best friend; she's a psychologist; Paxton broke her heart: she didn't love Andrew.

3. So much telling. "The wedding was beautiful and emotional" Well great..but despite this book centering around wedding planning, there was very few details to set the scene.

This was very okay. The writing wasn’t necessarily bad, but the overall story was odd. First what 3 year old has that kind of vocabulary? Not sure my kids at 8 talked that well. Then why in the hell did Paxton and Collette have to plan the wedding? They literally did everything for the bride and groom from music, photographer, food, etc. Then Collette sent many mixed signals. Almost stopped multiple times and really skimmed the last 50%.

My first read from this author!
This was a second chance / single mom romance.

Paxton and Collette were high school sweethearts thought they had it all..
until Paxton left and went to the army and left Collette heartbroken.
Collette’s best friend Brett is marrying Paxton’s sister and they are helping with the wedding and are forced to put together a wedding for the people they love.
They, well mostly Collette had a lot of trouble forgiving Paxton for up a leaving her heartbroken.

This was a cute read that I enjoyed!

Really enjoyed!!

I really enjoyed this second chance romance. I liked that it was a journey for them to get to that HEA and it took a lot of work and forgiveness by both of them. It was steamy, sweet and touching

SHOWING OFF THE GOODS by Weston Parker
This is another extremely well done second chance romance by Weston Parker, who has consistently been upping his game with his stories. They are always have very solid story lines, lots of on fire chemistry, plenty of angst and the secondary characters are very well fleshed out too.
Brett is Colette’s best friend and he is marrying Tierra who is Paxton’s sister. Paxton and Colette had a deep loving history that blew apart and has left her scarred and bitter when his name is brought up. When Brett and Tierra ask the two people closest to them to stand up with them and help plan the wedding they have to put all their issues aside to make it happen. There is much drama for the two of them as they work to get Brett & Tierra married. I did very much enjoy this story. I give this 5 stars.

Showing off the Goods by Weston Parker drew me in. Interesting second chance romance of a single mom and her high school love who left to serve in military. Ten years later they’re thrown together to plan the wedding they’re the best people at. Despite Colette having married someone else, now divorced and a single mom she still harboring resentments towards Paxton for “abandoning” her to serve in military. Breaking down the walls and what if’s is tough. If you live second chance romance, military, single mom this is a must. But if a lot and page turner.

Paxton & Colette’s Story Is A Second Chance Romance That Will Have You Reaching For The Tissues! It Is Difficult To See How Pax Might Redeem Himself In Colette’s Eyes, But Be Patient. Pax Is Larger Than Life & Loved By All, Yet Leaving Colette Behind To Return To His Playboy Ways Hardly Seems Forgivable. But There Are Two Sides To Every Story.

After twelve years of dating, Brett and Tierra are getting married. Brett had been avoiding the inevitable for years, but at thirty-one he finally took the initiative to ask for Tierra’s hand in a spur of the moment decision. As they begin to make plans for their nuptials, they quickly recognize the potential for some drama on their special day. Brett’s choice of best man is not exactly conventional. He and Colette have been best friends since they were young. Their mothers were best friends too, and she has always felt more like a sister to him. Tierra’s parents passed away years ago, so she wants her brother Paxton to walk her down the isle and stand up for her as her man of honor. Paxton and Colette are not strangers, but they haven’t spoken in over a decade. Paxton had walked out on Colette when he suddenly enlisted in the Army, leaving her with a broken heart and shattered dreams. Despite the time that has passed, Brett and Tierra predict that a reunion might be explosive. Having the pair come face to face again is sure to bring up bitter memories and unpleasant emotions. Brett and Tierra had done their best to keep Paxton and Colette separated over the years, but a truce of sorts will be unavoidable if they are all to survive the wedding day. To stave off any wedding day surprises, the bride and groom give Pax and Colette some time to get used to the idea of behaving nicely by enlisting their help with planning the wedding.

Paxton Alexander Gould, thirty, lives for fun and cannot help but be defiant. He loves to push the envelope, though he can tone it back when necessary. Some might call him a man-child. A male model known best for his appearances in underwear ads, his career has skyrocketed him to the top of his field. It is never boring working on set with Paxton, who sometimes tests the patience of the photographers and directors he works with. Even so, nobody can resist his charismatic presence and he is universally loved. He learned to tamp down the natural jokester inside during his five years in the Army, and picked up some organizational skills and a sense of responsibility as well. He saw some ugly things in those years, but these days he eschews anything serious. Back in San Diego, his work keeps a steady line of beautiful women pining for him. Whether at the end of shoot or at an industry party, he doesn’t hesitate to mix business with pleasure. He is a playboy through and through.

His sister Tierra might be three years younger than him, but she is the more responsible one, often keeping tabs on him. She reminds him more of his mother. It was after he left for the military that their parents died together in an accident, and ever since the two of them have been close. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. Brett is a good man – he was Pax’s friend and Tierra’s childhood crush. Throughout high school Paxton had been tight with Brett and his best friend Colette. The three had a lot of fun together; Pax and Bret had been big players. But once Brett set his sights on Tierra he only had eyes for her. Though Brett had taken his time in proposing, they have stuck it out all these years. Once upon a time Pax had thought he would have been settled down already. He and Colette had fallen hard their senior year of high school, and their friendship had become so much more. But Paxton was always a player at heart, and Colette’s dreams just weren’t for him. So instead of heading off for college, he signed up for the Army and left San Diego behind.

Dr. Colette Abigail Wynne, thirty, is doing pretty well for herself. With her psychiatry residency behind, a private practice in San Diego, and her student loans now paid in full, she can finally start thinking about the future. For her, that means putting some money away for April, her three year old daughter. Being a single mom is challenging, but Colette finds balance by making quality time at the end of the day. April’s father was never in the picture; Andrew split when he heard the news about the pregnancy. He had lofty goals that included travel and the good life, and didn’t want to be weighed down with baggage. Though Colette mourns the loss for her daughter, her own heart had soon recovered. After living through Paxton’s sudden disappearance from her life, which had been difficult to accept and took years to get over, she had adopted a more realistic view of love. She had been so convinced that Pax was her forever, but she no longer believes in fairy tales or happily ever afters. Andrew had been a good partner, but she knew they had no future. But he had given her April, and for that she would always be thankful. April brings so much happiness into Colette’s life, that she cannot imagine her life any other way. Life has been busy since April was born, and she hasn’t had time for a man in years.

When Pax and Colette meet Brett and Tierra for dinner, neither expects to see the other. The meeting is awkward to say the least, but Brett and Tierra manage to guilt the pair into cooperating. With just a month to plan the wedding of Tierra’s dreams, they have a near impossible task ahead. Working hand in hand to nail down every detail, Pax and Colette soon forge a working relationship. As they recapture some of their easy friendship, though, their feelings become confused. April takes quickly to Paxton, which sets off Colette’s concerns. She longs for a steady father figure for April, but Pax has a history of running away. Even is she feels drawn to Pax herself, it is a risk she can not afford for April. As they work to put the wedding together and navigate through their discomfort, their decade apart is a real divide. But is the unresolved past and their unspoken words that really keep the pair at odds. Their explosive end left them both without the closure they needed. The couple eventually finds a very happy ending.

There are a few issues that merit mention. The timelines don’t always make sense or match up. It can slow down anyone that pays attention to the details. I lay it out here to save readers the time of trying to make sense of it themselves. First, Paxton’s age is never given, and neither is Tierra’s. We know there is a three year difference. Paxton is apparently the same age as Colette since they were both nineteen and fresh out of high school together. That puts him at thirty and Tierra twenty-seven. Brett, Colette, and Pax all three graduated together since we know that Colette and Brett were in the same year and that Colette and Pax had graduated together. I presume Brett, Pax, and Colette were in their senior year when Tierra was a freshman – a three year difference with Pax puts her there.

Second, at thirty-one, Brett would have begun dating Tierra when he was nineteen (twelve years earlier). Most kids graduate high school around seventeen or eighteen, so it doesn’t make sense that he and Tierra were high school sweethearts. She would have been in high school, yes, but not him when they began dating.

Third, back to the fact that most high schoolers graduate at age seventeen or eighteen. We have both Pax and Colette at nineteen right after graduation, which doesn’t feel right. Incidentally, that would make Brett twenty at graduation.

Fourth, there are inconsistent references to how long Pax and Colette went without talking – more than a decade or under a decade. But again, a decade ago they were twenty. Not nineteen as stated (or seventeen or eighteen which would make more sense). For a while I kept waiting to see what happened for the year or two between graduation and Pax enlisting, but it later became obvious that it happened fairly soon after graduation.

Fifth, as for Colette, if she had no gap years, it would normally be expected that it would take four years to get her MD. The psychiatry residency is another four years. If Colette had graduated at seventeen, that would put her at twenty-nine to finish her residency (at which time she could set up her private practice). Unless she got some scholarships it is unlikely that she would have paid off her student loans since she would have barely scraped by on fifty thousand per year during her residency years, and the bulk of her several hundred thousand dollars in outstanding student loans would remain.

Finally, ten years is a long time for Pax and Colette to avoid one another; it felt too long. Particularly since they both live in San Diego and have shared friends. Brett and Tierra were involved with both of them the entire time. I would have expected Tierra to have taken some initiative to mend fences since she had insight into both, and maybe even try to play cupid with them somewhere along the way, at least by the time Pax got out of the service. She knew him well and would have been able to have her conversation with him years earlier.

Paxton and Colette’s story is a second chance romance that will have you reaching for the tissues. It is difficult to see how Pax might redeem himself in Colette’s eyes, but be patient. Pax is larger than life and loved by all, yet leaving Colette behind to return to his playboy ways hardly seems forgivable. But there are two sides to every story, and that is very much the case here. Their story pulls you in – it is easy to root for the couple’s happy ending. Little April is a doll, and Pax’s relationship with her is moving. The story is nicely written, though there are timeline issues with the ARC version. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are carefully crafted and realistic. The story is written first person. The POV alternates between Paxton and Colette. I rate this book four stars.

This book was fantastic in every way

Phew… this book was so good. It was hot, steamy, sweet, and a coming of age story about growth and heartache but ultimately rising from the ashes no matter how many times you’ve been burnt. Colette is a single mother and a kickass psychiatrist who was burned by her high school sweet heart and best friend when he left for the army. By Paxton has a deeper story to tell about why he did that, but she is too angry to even think about his existence. Her best friend is marrying his brother, and Colette and Pax have a month to plan the wedding of their dreams, but to do so they have to work together. The journey they embark on is so heart jerking and beautiful that you just have to read and find out if they can preservers through the pain.
On a side note, I have a really hard time reading through “the disaster” portion of romance books but this one was short lived and beautifully executed that you are annoyed with both party but still wishing they can work it out. Very well done Weston Parker. Very well done.

Like always, Weston Parker kills it with this book. It was a bit of a slow moving story but the story was still good. It was great to see M/F best friends with 0 romantic interest in each other. Colette and Brett are best friends and Brett asks Colette to be his "Best Groomswench". I adored their relationship and the way they supported each other and cheered each other on.  Brett's bride is Tierra and she asks her brother to be her man of honor. Colette and Paxton were high school sweethearts until he joined the military and ended things. Colette was angry and felt abdandoned. She continued to feel this way for a LARGE portion of the book. But she can't deny their chemistry. Paxton develops an relationship with Colette's daughter. But she still doesn't trust that he will stick around and won't hurt them. Time together allows her heart to heal and she sees Paxton as an adult and learns to trust.

Wow talk about all the emotional feels in this new second chance romance novel from Weston Parker. Readers will go on an emotional rollercoaster with the characters which range from passion, heartache, regret, doubt, forgiveness, and love. Paxton and Colette are reunited after years apart and thrown together to plan a wedding for their best friend and Paxton’s sister. Yet will they find the answers and healing they have needed from their past, so they can find love again? Paxton and Colette’s story was beautifully well written and the reason Paxton felt he needed to walk away in the first place brought me to tears. Showing Off the Goods is a captivating, feel good must read that readers will find entertaining and will need tissues for and a story they won’t want to end. I can’t wait for the release.

Oh. My. Goodness. Too many internal monologue moments - it got boring fast.

This had a great storyline, although there were inconsistencies with Paxton's character - there were times he sounded like a douche regarding his frequent hook-ups with models he worked with (those darn monologues of his)! Both of them probably repeated themselves at least a couple of times, between the actual dialogue and follow-up monologue comprised of too many compound sentences. Between Tierra, Brett, Pax and Collette, I was getting sick of reading about why Pax and Collette broke up, how he broke it off, and how awful she felt about it. There really wasn't any need for that much summation. Three stars. This one was probably my least favorite book by this author -- I usually enjoy his books a bit more.

Social Media Strikes Again

I’m glad I found this story through social media. I enjoyed it. Paxton and Collette dated in high school and planned to go to college together. That is until he pulled the rug out from under her and chose to enter the service. She continued on, had a daughter, and was successful in her career. He became a model after leaving the service. In 10 years they hadn’t seen each other, even though his sister has been together with her best male friend all that time. Then her best friends asks his girlfriend to marry him and Paxton & Collette need to work together for the next month to make the wedding happen. I liked how it wasn’t an “all is forgiven” story even though the attraction is still there. Paxton and Collette have things to work through and prove.

Colette and Paxton were sweethearts from their early teens and everyone knew they were going to be married and have kids with the white picket fence yadda yadda yadda..
Skip ahead to present time..Colette is a single Mom and Paxton is a famous Male model. Paxton's sister is getting married in a month and she has asked him to be his "Man of Honor" and help plan the wedding. Colette is the Grooms best friend and he has asked her to stand up for him in the wedding and help plan the wedding. The story goes forward from here. I dont know how Weston can think of all the twists and turns the story can take but from page one I was hooked and didnt want to stop reading until I finished the book. I really enjoyed reading this book. Easy read standalone HEA

Pleasantly surprised

This was a new author for me so I decided to give it a try based on the blurb. Very happy I did. This book had me feeling so many things I was not expecting. I felt so much of what Collette was going through as a single Mom. She is forced to work with Paxton, the man who broke her heart, to plan the wedding of her best friend and his sister, which starts an emotional roller coaster ride for both the main characters, and the reader. Working through past decisions, hurt, anger, loss, to find a way toward a future together. The chemistry between them is undeniable. Not a super steamy read, but I think more would have taken away from their story. I really enjoyed this and will look forward to reading more by this author.

Paxton (Pax) and Colette's second chance to love is beautifully written. Paxton is a sexy and handsome underwear model. Colette is a psychiatrist, and a single Mom of April, a lovely 3 year-old little girl. Their journey is filled with angst, misunderstanding, and twists and turns. The storyline is original, fun, sweet, and heartwarming. The supporting characters are interesting. I liked Tierra, Paxton's sister, and Brett, Colette's best friend. I loved the family bond, and the friendship in this story. The story has a beautiful ending. This is a beautiful second chance to love, and I enjoyed it.

Loved this second chance romance about Colette and Paxton. They were high school sweethearts and made plans to be together but Paxton made a decision that didn’t include Colette. 10 years have passed and she was quite content on not seeing him again, that is until her best friend is marrying his sister and they both are tasked to help with the wedding. The more they are together, the more they can’t deny the chemistry and attraction that was between them. If anything, it has grown over the years even if they tried to fight it. Loved Paxton’s relationship with Colette’s daughter, April. It was so cute. Another hit by Weston Parker and I can’t wait to read what he has coming next.

Paxton and Colette will take you on an emotional roller coaster. They were joined at the hip until he up and joined the army without warning her ten years ago. Fate brings them back together again when they're part of the same wedding party. I loved this book and could not put it down. What a great love story that will grab your heart. It won't take you long to fall in love with them and start pulling for them to have a second chance at love. Weston did a great job with this book. The characters are the best and the story line is a page turner. I read an advance copy via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.

Holy wow!

Okay I have to say that I am SERIOUSLY impressed by the fact this story was written by a guy. Why? Because I have yet to read a quality romance written by a guy that wasn't terrible... until now. I'm hooked. You've sold me on future books. Absolutely loved this one. Pax and Colette are a beautiful, wonderful, tangled mess and I completely adore them. This was perfect. I can't even start reading a new book tonight because this one needs to stay fresh in my mind for a little while.
Seriously... perfect. I must now go add the paperback version to my Amazon cart so that I can add this one to my favorites shelf here at home.

Paxton and Colette are in unconventional roles when they are asked to be best man and maid of honor for a wedding. Paxton’s sister wants him to be her man of honor. This wouldn’t be too bad if he wasn’t Colette’s ex the one who tore her heart apart! Thrown together to create a memorable wedding for their two favorite people will you glued to their drama to see what will happen between them! This is a well written story with dynamic characters that will have you cheering Colette and Paxton on to rekindling their love and moving forward to their very own happily ever after! Tugs on the heartstrings

Collette, a psychiatrist and single mom, is blindsided when Paxton, model and veteran and her first love, is at a meeting with her best friend and his sister about the wedding they agreed to help plan without knowing the other was going to be there. As the story progresses a tentative truce is reached, the battle begins for one of them, and if they cannot call a ceasefire and talk things out they run the risk of ruining everything. Weston Parker tugs on the heartstrings in Showing Off the Goods between the characters present and past.

This Author is amazing.

Anytime I come across one of Weston Parkers books I know I need to clear my schedule and sit down for a day. There's just no way to put the stories down. The characters are great and relatable even when they're things like billionaires and models. They are soo well written you become the couple for a few hours.

This story is great. Definitely worth the read. Fans of second chance romances will love it. Even military romance fans will relate due to some of the scenes from Paxtons story.

Showing off the Goods

Paxton and Colette's story started years ago when they were in high school. They met when she was 14years old and they were inseparable until they were to graduate and go off to college together. Paxton came to Colette and let her know that he had joined the Service and he didn't want her to wait for him. Paxton's sister Tiarra and Colette's best friend Brett are getting married. They are asked to be best man and to be best grooms wench. They have to work together even though Colette hates Paxton and has never forgiven him for leaving her.

Psychiatrist and male model

Paxton and Charlotte met when 15. At 19 he left her behind to join the Army. They are thrown together to arrange a wedding for his sister and their best friend. She has trouble trusting him especially since she has a three-year-old daughter. Their discovery of true feelings brings laughter, tears, and some sweet moments. Weston Parker has diner it again!

Fantastic Characters, Excellent Novel

Definitely a great read. It wasn't a page turner but it kept me interested. The part I didn't like is the part where sex came quick, like most romance novels. It gives you the impression that they only had great sex together and no other feels were involved. They had only been back in each other's lives a few days and bam sex. Especially considering he'd bedded a lot of women.

A good second chance

Model Paxton left Colette to join the Army. She thought that they would go to college together, get married and be a family but Pax burst that bubble just after high school graduation. She never got over it, so her best friend and his sister kept them apart. Now that they’re getting married, they want both Pax and Colette involved. But can they work together, even for the ones they love the most?

DNF @ 24%

Girl is still bitter a decade later because the guy left to join the army, and acts like he did something unforgivable to her? And she's a therapist at that! I cannot fathom being her patient.

Also, why are these two planing the whole wedding? One thing is to help out. The other is doing every little thing! Why did they even need to marry in under a month anyway? Settle for another date a year in the future and take your time! Geez.

And not a single 3 year old speaks like that!

This was getting no where. Basically you know the plot you, know the story and you know how it will end up... there are no surprises it’s just that getting there was getting very frustrating as nothing is happening. Most part of what I read was talk about the wedding and other nonessential details. Not much about the MCs.
Honestly the most interesting parts I’ve read so far were the part with the little girl what I think is adorable!
