After my return, I hadn’t realized how many people would assume they had a right to invade my private life. Now I struggle with nightmares and anxiety, and I have to constantly be shadowed to ensure my safety. To make matters worse, people from the past, both mine and the guys’, make an appearance back into our lives, stirring up an old history of hurt. They think they have a right to, after abandoning us like yesterday’s trash. I just wish they’d become history again and stay that way.
Not all is bad, though. My relationship with the guys is stronger than ever. I still have my escape with dance. Plus, an opportunity I thought long passed comes knocking on my door once more. I’m getting better, and more importantly, I’m not alone. But I know how fickle fate can be. Just when you’re finally catching your breath, fate steps up behind you to throw you back into the fire, whether you’re ready or not. Well, I’ve got news for fate: the fire just makes me stronger.
Reread: 5/1/23 5 Stars WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTION!!! S.M Olivier continues to draw me into this fantastic series. I am in awe of how amazing these books are. Since the last book release, I have formed quite the obsession and have anxiously waited for Fickle Fate
The realism of Peyton's struggle since the ordeal she faced in Fighting Fate has truly been inspiring. The maturity she demonstrated while dealing with the Golden and Maddie spectacle to the Delany drama was great to read about. The redemption of a few characters was surprising, to say the least, but I could not have been happier.
With the reintroduction of past foes, the storyline has intensified tenfold since the last book. I was thoroughly captivated with the plot and could not put it down. "It'll be an easier journey if I'm pretending to be someone else." Peyton's character growth as an individual had me inclined to feel a sense of pride on her behalf. Her will to move on was extremely admirable.
I was a bit sad to see the investigation of her tormentors has yet to yield any major consequences, but that was to be as expected with the issues everyone was facing in Fickle Fate The second half of the book was where my anxiety for my favourite characters had picked up. My heart broke for Peyton towards the end but I do not doubt that everything is a small part of a much larger plan. I just hate seeing any of them unhappy and longed for the day they received their HEA.
Fickle Fate has revived my obsession with Peyton's Path and I will be neurotically checking the FB readers group for the latest news to the continuation of the series. S.M Olivier has gained a forever fan from this series
HOOLY SHIIET, after the second book i was in a turmoil of emotions. Mostly because of the hoe Maddison and Golden ofc. Also a lil of Lucas cuz of who he fucked.... And just all that happen. Sooo when this got released i was so fucking excited, i did a fast reread of the two previous books and dived into this asap. I feel like i have just come out of a rollercoaster, this book/series is messing with my feelings and emotions. Of everything Peyton´s has gone thru and all life is throwing at her and the guys, i even shed some tears when it became tooo emotional. I loathed Maddison of her decisions to try to flirt with Peyton´s guys, and as a joke? want to join her harem and that she even would lick Peyton only if she also could have the guys sometimes... She was just sooo annooying, i wanted to kick her fucking assss. Omg there was just so much happening in this book, but at the same time not i guess ( i mean they worked a lot with their chemistry and relationship) I feel like it´s never just randy dandy and that they can enjoy being with each other, it´s always something that wants to fuck with them or life. Golden and Crew, I loved that the author did not leave us with a official cliffhanger, which i thank her for. But there is still so many unanswered questions in the air which i feel is enough for leaving me hanging there in the end. Crew just have to do everything himself, i hate when people just is doing their own thing and not saying anything to anyone in the family (harem) and thinking he or she is doing the right thing?? Crew is obvious being cornered by Butch his dad, and i guess that he threatened Peyton and the guys. Damn there is so many annoying clingy ex :es in this one, girls all over the place either trying to get back with one of the guys or destroy Peyton for being in a relationship with their ex. We have jana, Serena, Leah, Bailey ( i think that was all, right?) plus girls that wants them cuz of their looks ( and maddi hoe on the side, lmfo) Even tho i felt that she might get redeemed in this series, When i heard that she would study in the same university as Zane and Crew i just felt ofc that has to happen! and ohhh Dr. Bryce, i wonder if he will join the fam I can´t wait until the next book, i need it like yesterday!

This was a good book and if the series had been completed it would have got a higher rating! I thought it was a trilogy so to get to the end of the third book and realise none of the storylines are complete was, I’m afraid to say, disappointing.
This is the end of the road for me. Now is this book bad? No. But it just wasn't for me, and that might just be a me thing. Peyton has gone through a lot, and I totally understand her trauma. her mind and thought process is really messed up from what happened to her, yet I really wanted her to be stronger then what we got. Peyton to me was a very strong character, but has now become a mouse and a empty shell of a women. Yes I get it, those men had hurt her, her friend had hurt her. I wanted her to keep some of her strength somehow. Wanted her to be focused on her guys and bringing those f**** to justice. But Peyton stability? Her mentality? It's not really good, she not in the right kind of mind frame to juggle her men, or even be with them now. I felt she should have just broke things off with the guys. that's how weird it felt, it's like the RH we built should just be discontinued now. She is so insecure, feels so inadequate, she's entirely in her mind continuously wishy washy as to her men. Trusting them, debating if it's even worth still being with them. "Won't it be better to leave now". This book was so hard to want to read. I just was at a loss? But what I found odder was that though the many issues she had, she still found time to be ok enough about sex? It just didn't work for me. How do you have trauma with every single thing but sex? I just couldn't wrap my mind around this. I wanted her crazy mouth back! Wanted her to stick up for herself to everyone, she was just so meek and fragile. I personally hated what our Peyton became. She to me always seemed like a fighter to the very end. And I'm just really sad now. I also don't know how I feel about more drama and a new villain. But I don't think it matters since the storyline isn't for me any longer.
OMG!!!!!! With everything that is thrown at this group, it is amazing they are still sane. How they get through obstacles is inspiring and even though Peyton is dealing with PTSD with has her anxiety worse, she is still so strong and loving towards those who deserve it. I am curious still to know what happened to Madison but she has and probably will cross the line again. Maybe she will eventually realise actions have consequences and face whatever is going on. Peyton and the guys relationship? Holy hotness they are on fire. Love how they are opening up more to her and she hasn't let her what happened to her effect her relationships. Crew, I have a feeling I known what he is doing and love him a bit more for taking that on. Still I don't like it and it better get sorted soon. Dr Bryce, I am hoping to see more in the next book. Peytons mum, what the hell? I dont even have words to describe that woman but I hope Peyton slaps her one. Then you have David the sperm donor haha I am starting to like him. So much happens and view on some of the characters change. New people and new possibilities that I can't wait to see about in the next book.
I am so painfully disappointed in this book. And in this author. The series was so good, and then you get THIS "ending"... I rated it one star because, well.... I am so disappointed in this "ending" that I am in tears, and angry and not because that author was "that good" but because the series just ends with no answers and no promise of a 4th book. It's like, poof. We are done. We don't learn about Crew. Or the video. Or the Dr. Or Paxton. Or their school. Or loch. This book is an EXTREME disappointment. I thought, I was going to have another author to add to my favorites list but, I can honestly say, if there is no follow up to this book, I will never give this author a second chance. It's been a couple years. We should have heard by now. And I have checked her social media. She is still writing so it's not like she disappeared. It looks, or rather reads, like she just gave up on this series. I am so mad that I wasted my game on this.
3.5 ⭐ Holy Drama! How much angst can you take? FFS.
The list of antagonists and external threats grows. Mean girl and condescending adult bullies continue. More unresolved conflicts. Add in OW and separation angst. Plus some "I was worried you died" dread. If that sounds like a party, get yourself some wine and popcorn and start reading from book 1.
I felt like I had to know what happened, so I kept reading, but I was getting so tired of the FMC martyrdom. She's got fortitude but takes it all on her shoulders and makes a lot of decisions which put her at risk and seem to only be out of stubbornness. I like her imperfect, but she's encroaching TSTL so often in this book. And any time she didn't communicate, even delaying it, it drove me batty.
The relationships with the guys feels... weird. Idk. She gives me whiplash in her own head. They're her forever, or until they realize she's too broken for them. Peyton feels like her relationship with her guys (save spoilers) is it's strongest, except for when she doesn't and questions everything. The relationship development felt flat - - there's physical intimacy and love declarations, but the emotional relationship build felt more stated than experienced. I really like how each guy is different and fits her differently and the whole broken characters who heal together trope, but this book didn't quite hit the mark for me from the trajectory started in the last two books.
And then another maybe love interest is hinted at... And I'm not feeling it. At all. I don't care how pretty his eyes are.
Apparently we can't have a cliff without being pissed at one of the Hs 🙄😒 Though frankly - keeping spoiler free - the whole going on your own to self sacrifice to protect people you love without communicating or really thinking through... Is such a Peyton move that I'm surprised she didn't recognize it.
I might need to tap out of this series. I can do angsty but this is next level. And it doesn't feel like they are working together, even when they lean on each other, it doesn't feel solid. I'm looking for character growth and trying to balance what's reasonable for series arc with each book being like 2-3 week timeline. But it's also book 3 and the emotional relationships build fell flat for me.
I'm conflicted. This was similar to the other books in the series, which I adored, but it has been a while and I just didn't get the same impact from this one. It's very repetitive, and the big plot/conflict isn't really developed or resolved as it came in halfway through the book. But I like reading Peyton's life, even if sometimes the narrative lacks direction.
It’s just not interesting anymore. A lot of situations could be avoided and the drama was too contrived. It missed being dramatic or interesting, and was instead excessive.
One accident after another. And I skim through the smexy scenes because they're not written well. They've gone from the word 'cream' in the previous bk to 'juices' now. Maybe the next will use moist.
It seems like quite a few people have been waiting for this book for some time, me included. I don’t know what it is about this series but you get so drawn in you just need to know what’s going to happen next. You have to read the previous two books in order to understand this one as it is a continuing series.
In some respects, the series reminds me of Erin R Flynn’s Upended Life, though this is a contemporary reverse harem book. Both series have young women who have survived abuse which has made them mature beyond their years, who have a great deal of strength but aren’t afraid to be weak. They are both also a bit more forgiving of the men in their lives than I would be!
This book starts a couple of weeks after the end of Fighting Fate. Peyton has been trying to regain her strength and gain weight after being starved whilst in captivity. Peyton is trying to come to terms with what has happened to her, and her family, and is hoping to start dancing again soon and go back to school. The men in her life are being supportive and caring and all she wants is to get back to normal.
So much happens in this book that it’s hard to capture the journey the book takes you on. There is quite a lot of peril in this book, once again, and it’s not surprising they have to incorporate bodyguards into their routines. It’s just as well Peyton’s grandfather is rich. It also seems that having bodyguards does not keep you invulnerable if you leave your house.
Peyton is having more positive interaction with the rest of her family, as it seems her abduction was a bit of a wake-up call for some of them. However, it’s not all positive, and Leah and her mother still hate her. Her own mother seems to have crawled out of the woodwork again too.
Through all that she undergoes, Peyton remains loving, kind and intelligent. She has a lot more poise and understanding of human nature than people twice her age. I know she’s had a trying life but she does seem unreasonably mature sometimes, especially as she’s never had any counselling and no one has given her much emotional support until she met the guys.
There’s quite a bit of steam in this book, and I like that though Peyton didn’t have much experience we see her excitement at learning new things and her throwing herself fully into embracing the different sides to her sexuality and trying to work out what she likes and doesn’t with the help of her more experienced lovers. She isn’t an instant expert, but she wants to learn about her likes and dislikes and those of her partners.
I really hope we don’t have to wait as long for the next book in this series, but if we do I’m sure the wait will be worth it. This is an engrossing book, that sucks you in and grabs your attention to the last page. Of course, once you reach that last page you are probably inclined to throw the book/kindle across the room because you want to know what happens next NOW!!!!. This author is a very gifted storyteller and I want to see where the story goes next.
Ok so, tbh, this is probably more of a 4-4.5 star read for me, BUT bc I still think of this book and it’s been a few days, it bumps it to a five for me. If/when I reread it I’ll change my rating if I need to.
So this doesn’t pick off right where book 2 ended, but a few days/one week past that. I was a little sad about that, just because I wanted the aftermath of her calling Madison out or kicking her out of the house, what her guys said about Golden and Madison, etc.
In reality, Madison didn’t play as big a role in this as I expected. The scenes she was in, I was really proud of Peyton. She stuck up for herself against her for once, but I do see this coming back again in some way.
I forgave Golden, especially at the end when we find out more about his backstory. I understood why he thought of Madison as a friend while Peyton was kidnapped, but I still don’t understand why he stayed around her even after she tried to kiss him. Like honey.. you should know better.
I found this book way more romantic than the past two have been. We have declarations of love and intimate moments with a few of the guys that I just loved. It does hurt my poor sensitive heart to find out things from their past, like Zane and Leah, or Lochlann’s past prior to moving back to town. But it’s better than knowing you have a connection out there and still falling in love with someone else (*ahem*). (Also that’s totally a me thing, I’m too sensitive for my own good I swear).
Peyton does have leftover trauma from her kidnapping, and she has anxiety and panic attacks. Totally reasonable, and I felt the emotions in those scenes. But this girl also can’t ever catch a break. I would’ve loved for this book to be calmer in the trauma and action department, to see her mend and focus on her relationships, and she does to an extent. But with a new villain on the scene, she’s still having a tough time and her guys are all suffering along with her this time.
She lives in a horrible town with horrible people and I’m excited to one day see them get their comeuppance. Leah, Bailey, their moms, Jana, all the people who apparently are all psychopaths who don’t have empathy toward what she went through. With Tormentor still out there and Claire and Ava making her out to be liars about it, there’s definitely still more to come from that.
The climax was intense! I have utmost faith in Crew even while I still want to punch him in the throat. I wish he would be more communicative instead of letting her assume the worst. I am intrigued as to whether Dr. Bryce will join her harem.
Peyton deserves the world, and I hope she gets it soon. I’m already anxiously awaiting book 4 (fingers crossed for this year!) and also would love the bands story!

This series just keeps getting better... My heart literally cannot take anymore, the feeling this book draws out are phenomenal!!
Peyton and her men are back but things aren't always what they seem... Delve into the book and let reality be swept away from you for a time. However do not forget the tissues, the chocolate, the ice-cream and your favourite luxury items and you will not want to move when you begin... Take some time off, put your feet up and allow yourself to become re engaged with the world we love so much.
So many questions answered so many still outstanding and so many new ones added... Roll on book 4
So this wasn't bad, but it didn't feel as exciting as book 1 and 2. I felt book 1 and 2 were page turners and book 3 felt a little bit as a filler in some ways. I mean Peyton got to develop more of a relationships with the guys, and the last 15% of the book there was the most action with the guys being attacked and such. I got tired of her fighting with Madison all the time. But, i just wish it was more exciting.
It's been a hot minute but we have the 3 book in this series. For me, this wasn't as good as the first two. I feel like the drama and angst have become a bit excessive and with the less than 3-month time frame of the whole story, it just feels implausible. The interactions seemed more awkward and there was a lot of wishy-washy. The OW drama is dragging on and it's kinda tired. I found myself skimming quite a bit throughout. I'm not sure if I'll continue on with the series, we'll see.
I started this series thinking it was a trilogy, now I have to wait for another book. I know this book got a lot of fives, but I felt it had too much repetitive internal dialogue to be a five. Note to author and readers a couple times they used the wrong name for the person they were talking about.
4.5 stars! I gave 4.5 stars due to the errors and typos I caught throughout the book.
However, it was so good!!! It seems like Peyton never gets a break! Something bad or life changing always happens. Think two steps forwards three steps back. Peyton is dealing with the past traumatic experiencing from her kidnapping, her mother makes an appearance (but we don't want her to), the constant bullying and ridicule from outsiders and social media. Her and Zane get the opportunity to make a music video. The relationships are continuing to build, but again it is like two steps forward and three steps back. Crew and Golden were the ones to be put in the dog house until Golden steps up. Crew is going to try to take down his evil drug dealer father, but he didn't tell his family (shocker and completely stupid).
Peyton's relationship with her grandpa is growing stronger, and her also she is talking more with her real father and he is making amends. I applaud his efforts and how he is trying to be a better father and man.
I like how Peyton's family is growing! It is so sweet and endearing. I love her love for Maise and Clay!! Clay is my favorite! He is so cute and precious! I'm absolutely shocked by Madison's behavior and agree with Peyton's emotions and thinking towards her. I also admire Peyton strength and kindness toward the kids from book 2...
Harem: Lochlann, Paxton, Golden, Zane, Crew, Kyler, and maybe the Bryce...????
Sexiness: 4 out 5
Secondary Characters: Maise, Clay, Sal and Des (shadows=guards), Madison, Lucas, Freddy, Renee...
Ugh. I hate Peyton's mother, step-father (uncle), her kidnappers (and there are still two out there), Crew and Kyler's father Butch, Leah (step-sister, bully), Bailey (cousin, bully), and so many more...
This highly anticipated Book 3 is worth the wait! There was a lot to work through in this book; love, friendships, healing and betrayal; the author did not disappoint in showing that not everything happens in two chapters. These things take time. Peyton is a strong woman that has taken so much on, thankfully she has the support system of a small queendom or does she? Seems that one of her knights is faltering.... Things are not what they appear to be and only time will tell on what his true intentions are.
This book was so worth the wait. Sunny it was amazing. As if Peyton and the guys had not overdone enough this book threw a dozen more obstacles at them. I loved seeing the relationship s grow and Golden redeem himself. I am so so glad Peyton did not forgive Madihoe. And by dear sweet Crew , I know what you're doing and why but I hate it. I cannot wait til the next book...And OMG the Bryce part at the end ......amazing ...amazing
Soooooo… I still hate Madison but Golden has redeemed himself. I thought this book was the last but I guess there will be one more book in the series (the last one) which will rap everything up in a pretty bow, whenever it’s written. So until then, I’ll be waiting to see how this story ends.
This was not my favorite of the series as it had a lot of fluff in it but it was still decent/good and I cannot wait to see how the story ends.
There's more drama, more angst, and a lot more heat as Peyton’s story continues in Fickle Fate (Peyton’s Path #3). It’s a fantastic series and the ongoing storyline just gets more and more exciting! I did find it a bit repetitive at times and in need of editing but I loved it. I can’t wait to see what happens in book four.
I didn't think 5 stars were enough for this absolutely fabulous book . I read it in a day . The characters are all amazing . I hope the next book comes soon .
When I started book 1, I didn't realise the series was incomplete. I would really love book blurbs to be clearer about such things. Fortunately it's not a terrible cliffhanger, but it leaves things unsettled with Crew, although I have my suspicions about what he's up to.
In book 2, Peyton is so careful to use condoms although she's on birth control; she says it's better to be careful. In book 3, she has just returned from being kidnapped for 18 days -- during which I'm sure she didn't take birth control -- but suddenly it's okay to dispense with condoms??? I'm like wha--??? And then she has rough and vigorous sex with Kyler the day before a dance competition... this didn't fit in with her dedication to dance, because the next day she's a bit sore and tender and it would have affected her dancing. I would have expected that with her ambition and desire to dance the best she can in order to catch the attention of scouts, she would have priortised that over bedplay.
Another thing that bugged me, which has bugged me in various books by other authors, is how Renee is able to get into someone else's phone to delete a photo taken of Lochlann and Peyton. Does nobody lock their phones in the USA? Cos everyone I know sets a PIN for screen lock, and more and more phones even have fingerprint sensors these days.
Similarly, how could Butch (Kyler and Crew's father) get into the car when Salvatore went to collect the food... you know you're in danger, when Sal gets out of the car, you LOCK THE CAR DOORS immediately! My friends and I do this! When the driver jumps out to run to the bank ATM or for whatever other quick errand, leaving the engine running, the one waiting in the car locks all the doors because the last thing you want is some car-jacker to jump in and take the car for a spin with you in it. This is Safety 101.
I find it difficult to believe that Zane is at competition level after not dancing for years. He does teach some classes, if not mistaken, but he doesn't really dance, so wouldn't he be out of condition? I love that he danced with Peyton, though, because their connection would give them amazing chemistry on the stage. I also love how supportive her guys, grandfather, and even David (a.k.a. sperm donor) were. And that they not only brought her flowers, but also brought Renee flowers because they knew her father couldn't be there.
I also liked how she and the guys talked about the future. It was bugging me, how they're all in their final year of high school (except for Lochlann and Kyler) and then they would all be separated. They talk about sustaining a long-distance relationship and the practicalities of travelling from one place to another.
I'm not sure about the grudge she harbours against Madison. On one hand, I can see why she would not trust Madison again, and I think Madison's excuse about not knowing how serious it was between all of them was really BS. But then Peyton's going to have to deal with having Madison around Zane and Crew for four years, if they all go to the same uni. I do feel that Peyton sort of discarded Lucas and Madison; her guys supplanted them by giving her the sense of belonging and acceptance that she got from them, so she didn't really need Lucas and Madison anymore... plus she was so caught up in her family drama and all. Once she had the guys, she hardly contacted Lucas and Madison any more, and she even said in book 1 that she felt bad about it -- until she found out how they had betrayed her and let her down. Madison's transferring to their school could be just wanting to be near to Golden and hoping that something would develop between them, not so much being distraught about Peyton's disappearance... it's hard to tell. There's some hints that something bad has happened to Madison after Peyton moved away, but so far Peyton has been too outraged and hurt to really pick up on them and get her bestie to open up.
I wish that Peyton would take up the guys' advice and see a therapist. She has been so adamantly against it, but I feel that therapy would help and I hope the author will have her eventually see a therapist, to show readers that there's nothing wrong in seeking help if you need it, and how therapy can really help you push past the traumas you've faced in the past. It doesn't make you weak, and the therapist won't force you to talk about anything you don't want to or you're not ready to. As someone who has been to therapy, I only wish I had done it earlier, cos it's an amazing feeling to get rid of all those demons on your back that have been riding you for years.
Love this instalment of the series! . Major growth for peyton in this book. I had my worries that she was going to give in to Maddison and her demons but she really surprised me. I love that she’s also giving David a second chance and that he’s also shown some growth. I also love that her relationship with the guys have progressed. Not just intimately but emotionally also. . I’m here for the twists in this book. And there’s so much still to unravel. I swear my heart about stopped with one scene and I’m glad it turned out how it did because I would have rioted if it didn’t! So many other heart stopping moments as well as heart warming moments, some exciting, some awe inspiring and everything in between, this book had it all! I love how Olivier really takes her time to develop her characters and storyline and the delivery. She’s balanced everything out perfectly and her attention to detail is incredible. . There are sensitive topics that are spoken about in this book as well as the series as a whole so please read the warnings. Olivier really makes sure she writes everything with realism. From the way events happen to the enents that take place after even the lasting effects it has on a person mentally and physically. Everything is incredibly written! Absolutely love this series. Can’t wait for book 4!
The fact that it took me three whole weeks to get through this book should say enough, but I’ll elaborate anyway.
I love RH books. I really do. But with each Peyton’s Path book I can’t help but feel more uncomfortable about the situation. Peyton is still in high school, and is in a relationship with several men, two of which are also a few years older. Now, slightly older men aren’t typically a deal breaker for me, but it started to cross a line when she decided she wanted to start having sex (also losing her virginity) with all of them in a very short time frame.
For example, she was literally begging two of them to be intimate with her in the shower RIGHT after she’d been rescued from her 3-week-long captivity where she was kept naked 24/7, wore a shock collar, and nearly died from illness and injury. The fact that the men indulged her there was just disturbing.
Many secondary characters expressed the same concerns I’m having. Peyton is severely traumatized, and has been abused in some way or other for most of her life. She is vulnerable and never had a caring father figure, so it makes sense that she would latch onto any male who showed her the slightest degree of kindness or offered protection. I love the connection she has with most of her boyfriends, but I think it does border on concerning that this abused and traumatized high schooler is jumping into bed with a bunch of men (whom she only recently met, let me add), two of which are definitely out of her league in experience and brain development.
I love the reverse harem genre, but I think Peyton should be focusing more on therapy at this point than trying to work out an intimacy schedule between all of her boyfriends.

Honestly, I loved this series so much. There was so much going on and the adoptive family aspect of this series was awesome. I haven’t been able to put these books down.
By the time I got to around 85% of this final book, I knew there was no way the author was going to be able to wrap it all up in the remaining pages. This was probably one of the least satisfying endings I’ve ever read. One of her guys left and we don’t really find out what happens with all that.
Also, there was so much emphasis put on the fact that the FMC and most of her guys would be going in separate directions when they graduate but we don’t find out what happens with that either.
Overall, this was a great series and a super interesting read, but the ending left so much to be desired.
