He was in love with his best friend but she got engaged to his brother. Just when Lucas Matthews was about to reveal his secret feelings for his best friend Britt, his brother beat him to the punch and proposed to her- forcing Lucas to take desperate measures. Lucas rocked Brittney Young's world when he challenged the status of their friendship. Sealing his confession with a melting kiss left no room for confusion, but by the time Britt got over her doubts, Lucas had left town. Not only had she lost a best friend, she ended her engagement. The only thing she didn't lose was her job as Lucas' Grandma's caregiver. With each passing day, Britt realized that her own feelings for Lucas went beyond friendship. Ten years later, when Britt's ex- fiancé's wedding brings Lucas back into town, she's not prepared for the way her blood sizzles in his company. Could this be a second chance to renew their friendship and find something more? Can Lucas risk giving his heart again to the woman who crushed it?
Ever since I discovered Rose Fresquez’s books, I have enjoyed her sweet interracial romances and always look forward to her upcoming releases, but she really steps up her game in The Physician’s Helper. With engaging characters and a fun storyline of former childhood friends reconnecting, The Physician’s Helper is definitely my favorite novel of hers.
If you are new to Rose Fresquez’s books, you can definitely jump right in with this novel. The Physician’s Helper, book three in The Caregivers series, can be easily read as a standalone, but fans of the series will enjoy some cameo appearances from characters they met earlier in the series.
The spiritual thread was weaved perfectly into the storyline with the hero Lucas’s recently discovered faith and the heroine Brit wanting to learn more about God herself. I especially liked how the hero and heroine are forty and almost forty years old, now that I’m getting older myself (even though I hate to admit that I will turn forty next year)! Lucas and Brit are highly relatable characters and refreshing to read, when many other characters in Christian fiction are often in their twenties. Fans of kissing scenes will enjoy the romantic moments between Lucas and Brit.
The Physician’s Helper is recommended for readers of inspirational contemporary romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Lucas Matthews is best friends with Brittney Young. He was finally ready to tell her how he feels about her when his brother Adam proposed to her. Lucas did the only thing he could. He went ahead and told her how he felt anyway, kissing her so she knew how much he loved her. She took too long to decide, and when she knew she wanted Lucas, he had left town.
Having lost her best friend, she broke off the engagement to his brother as well. When Lucas’ brother’s wedding to Olivia brings Lucas back to town 10 years later as his best man, Brittney knows her old feelings had never gone away. Will Lucas give her a second chance to make things right? Or can he no longer trust his heart to the woman who broke it?
I didn’t like the dynamics of this story. Total lack of communication, bad timing, betrayals, a 10-year absence, none of this is a good foundation for a relationship. These two would need a very long engagement period to learn how to communicate with each other. Both of them exhibited very childish behavior as well. I just felt that a strong friendship should have at least made them discuss why she couldn’t make up her mind. And wasn’t she dating his brother before they got engaged? This should not have even surprised him. Evidently his brother knew how to contact him for the wedding invitation that brought him home. She could have asked his family how to reach him.
A beautiful love story about two best friends who parted ways ten years ago and now have a second chance. The characters were perfect in this story. I liked both Lucas, an anesthesiologist and Brittany, who takes care of Lucas' grandma, Clarice. It was fun watching Clarice try to play matchmaker. I enjoyed learning about their past and watching them try to overcome their past. It's just too bad Lucas does not live anywhere near Soda Creek anymore. The story seemed so realistic to me and I enjoyed picturing the scenes, especially the picnic. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Of all the books in this series, I liked this the least. I did not like Brittany at all. She was a wimp. There was nothing to like about her. It seems the relationship was one sided. Why should Lucas give up everything for her? Where was the compromise? Honestly, if I were Lucas, we would have just remained friends and I would have moved on to someone else with more maturity and willingness to accept their own accountability. That was not Brittany. She rejects him and throws his love back in his face, but he's wrong for not sticking around. No. I don't like her at all.
Very touching. I love the Christian aspect of this series. It makes me want to be a better person and rely more on God than I currently do.
There were parts that made me cry with happiness and the feeling of being cherished. It’s just a sweet read.
Lucas is new to Christianity and Brit is hungry for the Word. Lucas guides her in following the lord and showing she can be loved unconditionally. Characters from the previous 2 books appear - they’re all friends. I like that, because it shows updates on their romances/marriages and how God is guiding them.
Next is The CEO’s Companion. I assume it’s about Eric Stone who is the character in this book’s friend. Last mentioned about Eric was that he was lethargic and running fevers. Since there is an entire book about him and his “companion”, I assume he pulls out of his illness/diagnosis just fine.
Compared to the previous and some of the future books I have read, this one drags. The doctor seems to want everything his way and so does his grandmother's caregiver and his BFF from childhood. It takes them an inordinately long time to make their minds up about each other, and for the doctor to realize his new position leaves him less time to himself and brings more aggravation. The story is a good one overall but it reads like a soap opera - the few times I've seen a soap opera, I kept yelling at the TV, "DP something, for Pete's sake! Poop or get off the pot!" That's how I felt reading this...page after page, I wondered what was taking so long. The epilogue was a let down and served only to tie up loose ends without doing anuthing to add to the story..
Brittany and Lucas were childhood best friends, until it was challenged and Lucas moved away. Years later, Lucas returns to be apart of his brother's wedding. As hard as they try to stay apart, they start to develop feelings for each other.
Although it's show as being apart of a series, it is a complete standalone story. It was clean and a heartfelt interracial romance. I also enjoyed the way the characters related to each other. It also had lessons throughout the story. The author did a very good job with the story.
I received a copy of the book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I have thoroughly enjoyed each book in this series. In The Physician's Helper, Lucas and Britt get another chance in this clean romance. Having grown up together, they have much reminiscing to do; and that's when their feelings for each other begin to grow once again. I enjoyed the way Britt took care of Lucas' grandmother as well as Lucas' care and concern as well. Didn't much care for Lucas' brother. Now that his time in his hometown is over, can Lucas and Britt continue the friendship once again--long distance? A heartwarming read.
“Going home is a good thing. Sooner or later, you must face your past before you get a grip on your future.” Lucas has run from his past for 10 years after finally declaring his love to his best friend Brittany and being rejected. Now he has to return home for his brothers wedding, which means facing his past, aka Brittany. Can he dare hope they could be friends again or even better yet could the future have a second chance for them. Enjoyed this story about relationship complications, second chances and family.
A Sweet Love affair that bloomed between best friends
Best Frieda since childhood, Lucus and Brittany get a second chance to turn their friendship into something more after being estranged for ten years, after his first declaration of wanting more than friendship was rejected. The story of her discovery of God and Lucus and Brittany finally admitting to their attraction and continued love for each other is sweet and beautiful story.
I enjoyed the other two books to be great in this series; but this one is even better! I loved the characters with their little quarks and their personal growth throughout the story. The story line is good and I enjoy a good best friend story. There is a lot that happens in a short amount of time and love the bit of faith that is sprinkled into the story. This can standalone though more enjoyable with the stories in the series.
When Lucas returns home for his brother's wedding, he is thrown back with Britt. They were best friends for so long but a mistake kept them apart. Now they have a chance to be together forever but will they be honest about what kept them apart all this time? I enjoyed the copy of this audible story which I received free from the author. Ms. Joyce, the narrator, has an excellent voice for narration.
I had a Free Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Lucas Matthews and Brittany Young were best friends growing up, until his brother proposed to her. Now his brother is marrying someone else, and it’s the first they have seen each other in years. While Lucas is home for his brother’s wedding, he and Britt renew their friendship, but he must return to Denver and his new job as head Anesthesiologist. The plot includes forgiveness, communication and love. A great read.
They have been best friends since they were eleven years and loved each other as long… never had the courage to let each other know they were in love and wanted to be more than friends. That is until it was too late … If you read Ryan and Destiny’s story you already met Lucas and he is a wonderful man, easy to love. Let Brittney and Lucas tell you their story!
If you're looking for a heartwarming story with swoon-worthy kisses and tender moments, look no further! I loved this friends to lovers romance. With its good pace, dialogue, and plot, I kept turning the page until I was done. I definitely want to read about CEO Eric now...
This book is about so much more than a friends to lovers romance. It includes love for family, forgiveness, loss, and so much compassion. Most of all it shows how one believer can impact the lives of others. I am reminded of God’s promises of a measure of faith and faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.
A nice romance with good characters. I like seeing characters from other books. I feel like it draws the series closer together. An unique circumstance that happened to cause this sort of second chance.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Sweet and heartfelt. Lucas, was way too patient, and Brittney was way too soft hearted. They prolonged their own happiness. Grams, was in their business way too much. But it was nice to see God play such a major part in their story.
A warm tale of love and faith and second chances. Both Lucas and Brittney made mistakes in the past but get another shot at forever. Great job at handling the issue of faith!
This is another wonderfully written sweet love story that tells of God’s mercy and grace! It helped to remind me that with God, all things are possible…even Love!
I read this story and I wondered how two 40year old could take so long to get together they had had a wonderful childhood yet for a while couldn't really communicate though they knew each other so well.
A story of a girl dedicated to caring for the disabled & elderly. As she sought out her path, sunflowers led her to find faith. With faith, she found hope & trust. Luke, the player of book 1 found faith & is becoming a better person. Good story
Lucas and Brittney’s love was ordained from the very beginning. This novel thoroughly portrayed realistic characters, themes, trials, love, and hardships in our lives, and God was the answer for each one. A grand novel from a grand author.
I appreciate the author's s delightful stories of love and new Christians learning of God's love. Simplified, by just allowing the life well lived to proclaim God's grace and goodness. The author inspires to love!
I love this book because it's topic was really good bringing awareness to quadriplegic allegiance who needed the assistance. The public generally don't know what's Intel with these type of injuries unless you actually live the life so the story was really good.
This was a good Contemporary Christian fiction book in the Caregivers series. The story was believable and the characters heartwarming. I was able to listen to an audio version of this book via Hoopla, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
