This is a review of the Manhwa by the same name, but it's mostly about the story, not the art, so it should translate well. It's a hard story to review, because there are bits that are great, and other bits that are frustrating as heck. I would call this an exemplar of the "trashy" romance genre, where both characters are overly-dramatic, think that the fact that the relationship has been hurtful and difficult is what makes it "real love", lie to each other, actively try to hurt each other, and just generally aren't good people. The MC is significantly better than the ML, who is an absolute asshole, but even the MC's repeated victimisation just adds to the trashiness of the story because it doesn't feel like a thoughtful exploration of SA, abuse, DV etc, it just feels like drama for the sake of angst and plot engagement. The title gives it away a little - "Kiss me, Liar". This is not some reference to subterfuge or espionage, it's just that the MC is constitutionally incapable of just being honest about his feelings.
Which, having said all that, I did finish this story, and pretty much devoured it. For all the toxicity, it has that X factor that makes you want to keep reading, even when I wanted to throw the book across the room. I feel capable of reading this because I know what a happy and healthy relationship looks like, but if someone else is reading this and thinking it's what "true love" looks like, then I've got real concerns.
Overall, engagingly melodramatic, but riddled with toxicity and problematic stereotypes/tropes. Read at your own risk.
