"Definitive Guide" - no book is definitive, and certainly not when it comes to a vast subject like astrology. It's possibly the definitive guide to Judy Hall's personal opinions on astrology though.

The author makes outdated, unhelpful, categorical assertions about zodiac signs and planetary correspondences which are not backed up by named sources or even by her own reasoning.

Examples:
- the bibliography contains a paltry 11 books, of which only 4 were not written by Judy Hall herself!! Every other astrology book I have ever read (and that's at least 50-60) contains pages and pages of footnotes, references, acknowledgements, thanks, recommended reading etc. Authors who don't quote sources and just claim to know everything... sadly very common and sadly not very credible. Astrology is a phenomenally complex subject - are we really supposed to believe that a "definitive" guide to such an immensely challenging subject came almost exclusively from her?
- the esoteric correspondences, e.g. days of the week assigned to planets, are simply wrong (one of the several errors: Jupiter's day is stated as Friday, which is wrong, Friday is Venerdi'/vendredi which comes from Venus - she makes blanket statements with no justification).
- the "meanings" given for the zodiac signs are only her (negative, unhelpful) opinions. As an energy healer she should be aware that we speak of a spectrum of planetary energies and tendencies, carefully avoiding blanket statements like "Scorpio does not hesitate to use knowledge gained through insight to manipulate people" (actual quote, this book is full of examples like that).

All in all I was quite shocked at how arrogant and outdated her approach is.

Please only read this book if you are going to cross-check the information against multiple sources and other books written by professional astrologers. Like Pam Gregory, whose books are about a quarter of the length of Judy's but which have bibliographies 4 times as comprehensive, and are a mine of genuine properly-researched and validated information.

This book gets 1 star for providing a good outline and framework of subject headings for building your own knowledge, but you are going to have to strip out a lot of her content and do your own research if you want reliable info.

Good book, but more for those who are big followers of astrology. Give very detailed ways of working out your star sign, and all the aspects of astrology.

Too technical for my desire for a light read

I will use this as a reference guide over and over. As someone who is just starting to explore astrology and other related topics, I found this book really easy to understand and it had a bit of everything about each sign. Even explains how to draw your own chart.

WHO DOESN’T’ WANT to know future, right?
Especially when it can give you some insight into your own self, what works best for you, what are your strengths and which areas need to be improved.
I’m not an astrologer and never will be, but I understand myself a whole lot better now after reading this lovely book Astrology Bible by Judy Hall. The zodiac, elements, qualities, polarities, planets, house, and aspects … all come together to tell you how to live in harmony with this world, what kind of personality you have and how does astrology influence you and your mood, and much more!
Highly recommended to everyone who wants to get a bit deeper into how everything works and how to make the best of it!

don't walk, run to ur nearest book store and immediately buy this ! it contains information about the zodiacs that are simple, and easy to comprehend, however as you continue this book it has way more insight, from birth charts, to planetary activity, and deeper meaning on each sign. this book has so much information to leave you understanding almost everything about the zodiacs. it goes in depth about the twelve houses. this book has information about each sign and the individual unique quality's of yourself and everyone your surrounded with. when i began to read this book i knew little to none about astrology, now i understand how the planets affect us and how we behave. i highly recommend this book to people who are interested in astrology but don't know where to start.

*Appearance*:

-Inscrutable Scorpio has dark, brooding eyes and an intense gaze. The body is strong, subtly magnetic and the gaze gives nothing away. Hair and complexion are often dark. A sleek, power wardrobe puts the gloss on a generally impressive effect.

*Personality*:

-Charismatic Scorpio is difficult to get to know and prefers it that way. The fact that Scorpios maintain an air of secrecy only adds to the scorpion's dangerous charm. This is a highly intuitive personality that understands other people very well, instinctively picking up on any feelings they try to hide.

-With a desire for power paramount, Scorpio does not hesitate to use knowledge gained through insight to manipulate people for his or her own ends. This sign goes where other signs fear to tread, breaking all the taboos. It is nevertheless a change-resistant personality. Scorpio has refined passive resistance to an art form. This person rarely says an outright no, even when it would be in his or her best interest. In the same vein, when the proverbial sting in the tail does its damage, it can be self destructive. Scorpio rarely understands why he or she has behaved this way.

Scorpio is traditionally the most sexual and the most intense sign of the zodiac.

*Mind*:

Scorpio has an astute mind that goes straight to the root of a problem. Combining logic with intuition, the scorpion is an excellent strategist who can virtually hypnotize other people into doing what it wants. Thinking patterns and opinions tend to be unchanging. Not many have managed to change a Scorpio's mind.

-Scorpio can be ruthlessly self-critical, especially when trying to understand motivation. This is a suspicious personality, that dwells on past hurts and allows vengeful thoughts to develop. Everything is judged in the light of past pain, especially at an emotional level. Slow to trust, if Scorpio is betrayed, this sign never forgives and forgets.

*Emotions*:

-Scorpio's emotions are kept firmly under wraps, but are all the more intense for that. This personality type experiences incredibly powerful emotions, many of which center around love and jealousy. When Scorpio is in the grip of these, reason goes out the window.

-Scorpio can suffer from feelings of inadequacy, which will be masked with an arrogant manner. Always suspecting betrayal and abandonment, this sign's insensitive behavior often elicits exactly that response through his or her behaviour and power ploys.

*Strengths*:

-Tenacious Scorpio has enormous resilience and staying power. This perspicacious sign can penetrate into the depth of another person.

*Weaknesses*:

-Compulsive and obsessive, Scorpio is a touchy soul who seeks total control over other people. The Scorpio sting is lethal and Scorpio can be intensely masochistic.

*Shadow*:

The Scorpio shadow is venomous and full of spite. It comprises all the grudges the sign has ever held, and combines them with the mulish obstinacy it shares with its opposite sign, Taurus. Drawn strongly towards self destruction, this shadow falls easily into masochistic and sadistic practices.

*Karma*:

-This personality has issues relating to the use, abuse and misuse of power. The karmic challenge of Scorpio is to uncover the treasure hidden in the traumatic events of the past. The fact of Scorpio's survival is part of that treasure, as is the strength of personality that has developed as a result of challenge.

*Likes*:

Anything mysterious, clandestine or taboo; the erotic and the exotic; dangerous sports, planning revenge.

*Dislikes*:

Personal exposure, change.

*Money*:

-Scorpio is always in control and has a "what's mine is mine" attitude when it comes to money, although this person isn't necessarily mean. The sign's instinct for self-preservation shows itself in well ordered finances aimed at conserving wealth. At the same time, Scorpio is a lavish spender and enjoys making risky investments that Scorpio knows intuitively are a good bet.

...

*Leisure Activities*:

-Scorpio is particularly attracted to the occult, metaphysics and mysteries and magic of all kinds. This Mars-ruled sign also enjoys martial arts, working out and jogging. The danger that the sign craves can be found in motor racing, pot-holing or reading thrillers. Barhopping or night clubbing are popular evening entertainments. Water is a strong attraction, and diving or snorkeling are both appropriate. This intense personality is also into self-improvement and studies for pleasure. This sign can be obsessive about computers.

This handy-sized, packed guide provides insight into the signs of the zodiac, their correspondences, traits, strengths and weaknesses but also explores the elements and their connection to the body, mind and spirit dependent on the balance of planets within a chart as well as the cardinal, fixed and mutable signs and their polarities. It also gives insight into the astrological houses, giving explanations to aid the reader in their understanding. Providing information relating to astrology links to health, wealth and more with provision of chart enlightenment, it is a great resource for anyone seeking to understand the planets and the influence they have on human life.

This guide really gave me a sense of my natal chart as a whole. The houses/angles and the planets are the best and well explained sections (in my opinion), she missed a few points and left some informations out. What I think is funny, is that she points this in some parts.
Besides these two sections I think that if you're looking for a deep explanation or a take on moon phases + the signs, eclipses, aspects and other stuff. Please run from this book, she doesn't give the proper attention these topics deserve.
At last, she doesn't mention astrocartography AT ALL.

Loved this little book. It has all the little bits of info that the more specific and technical books leave out. This is the flowery stuff that most people love to hear about. When added to the other astrology books, it helps define the understanding of the sun signs, and specific attributes aligned with those.

Kind of a reference book. I pick it up and read different sections at a time.

Nice introductory book and a handy starting point for anyone who has interest in knowing the subject.
However, this is an extremely concise book and barely scratch the surface of a huge subject. You will definitely end up wanting for more.

I like the information in this book but I wish the author would have added the planets Neptune and Pluto through *all* of the signs, not just the ones listed, because the author stated about their long orbit (and that they won't pass through them until far in the future). That doesn't help someone like me who is using a natal chart that dates to 1908 because I didn't reincarnate by birth (rather soul transference incarnation). So unfortunately, really important pieces of information I was not able to have in a book. Yes, I've done quite a bit of online research thankfully, precisely due to situations like this - but it would just be nice to have that type of information in a book.

this was not the actual book i read. i read the book "Astrology" but when i looked at the reviews of this book i figured this is the closest book to what i read and it is from the same writer, so i picked this one since i haven't found the book. i really enjoyed the book, it was not my favorite and very boring. but had a lot of information. and it opened a new perspective and a view for me to ancient metaphysical knowledge.

Eh. This was rather basic and, at times, confusing. I read it over just a few days, and I'm a notoriously slow reader. It's also small in size and the paper is thick, so it's kind of annoying to hold because it's heavy and the pages are stiff. Start with something else.
