Rate this book
You are cordially invited to the country house party of the summer...

Five years ago, six exceptional ladies graduated from Twittingham Academy and successfully nabbed themselves the most sought-after matrimonial prizes in London. Actually, they didn't. Not one of them. But the Countess of Fangfoss, formerly known as Miss Julia Twittingham, has a plan to see each of her past charges happily wed after all. Welcome to Second Chance Manor.

Lady Angeline O’Shea was certain she would find a husband right out of finishing school, but instead, she was called back to Ireland to nurse her sick father through his final years. Now, slightly older, slightly wiser, but still as sweet and innocent as she was in school, she is determined to do her duty to her family by finding the perfect and most suitable husband...

...who is not Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury.

Fresh off of a broken engagement in which his reputation was raked through the mud, Rafe wants nothing more than to hide away in Yorkshire for the summer, licking his wounds. He supposes he’ll have to marry eventually, but the last woman on earth that he could see as his marchioness is cheerful, angelic, innocent Angeline.

Angeline has other ideas, though. What starts as her bid to get the curmudgeonly Rafe to smile turns into a passion that neither she nor Rafe can deny...

...until Rafe’s former fiancée shows up at the house party.

Plot Summary
A house party. A bitter Marquess. A Lady, worthy of her name. A sweet effort to make him smile. Love. Drama. HEA.

Quick Review
- I have only read a couple of Merry Farmer books, and from what I remember, they were quirky, funny, and different.
- As I said in my review of the previous book, this entire series seems to have an OTT theme. Nevertheless, this story was cute.
- The novella was written well, fast-paced and read like a novel (minus the backstory details, which were unimportant, so who cares).
- This particular story was trés dramatique, and it had me chuckling. The romance was sweet, and the characters were adorable.
- Angeline was a perfect rendition of her namesake. A spoonful of sugar, if you will. Quite an endearing heroine.
- Rafe was grumbly, a little irritable but charming nonetheless.

My Recommendation
A fun series. It's making me want to explore more books from Merry Farmer. Go for it

Since several of her former finishing school charges have failed to make matches, Miss Julia Twittingham, now the Countess of Fangfoss, has decided to host a matchmaking house party for them in the hopes of meeting with more success. Lady Angeline O’Shea hoped to find a husband after school but had to return immediately to her home in Ireland to nurse her ailing father. Now she’s a bit older, but her sweet disposition is intact, and she’s determined to find herself a suitable husband.

Lord Rafe McAllister, the Marquess of Rothbury, has just suffered a blow to his pride when his fiancé broke off their engagement and ruined his reputation in the process. Now he hopes to hide away in Yorkshire for the summer and regroup. He knows he must marry eventually but isn’t sure how he can trust another woman when he knows them to be fickle.

Rafe is attracted to Angeline but keeps his distance, feeling sure her cheerful disposition must be an ingenuine ploy. Angeline sets out on a campaign to gain a smile from sullen, sulky Rafe but the more time the two spend together, the more irresistible their attraction becomes.

This was a light and thoroughly enjoyable book. The attraction between Rafe and Angeline came quickly, especially given that this is a short book, but never felt rushed or unbelievable. Angeline’s anxiety was relatable, and her maturity made her a heroine I could root for. Rafe’s sulkiness could’ve gotten a bit old, but Angeline pulled him out of his shell just enough to make him roughly charming. My favorite feature here was the communication between Angeline and Rafe and the lack of game playing once he had given up trying to protect his heart from her. That maturity and refusal to use miscommunication as a plot device made this work for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

The Angel and the Aristocrat was a delightful read featuring a romance between a man escaping a bad engagement and a woman who has spent the years since her debut caring for her ill father.

Lady Angeline O’Shea was sure to find a husband after finishing school but when her father fell ill, she returned to Ireland to care for him through his final years. With her father now gone, Angeline would like to start a family of her own and begins her search for a husband. Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury, recently ended an engagement that resulted in damage to his reputation, so his plan is to hide out in Yorkshire for the summer. When Angeline meets Rafe at a house party it becomes her mission to make the man smile. But what started as a fun game, becomes so much more.

Angeline is incredibly sweet and a genuinely nice person. To be honest, her "perfectness" actually made me slightly dislike her character as I prefer my characters to be flawed as it's more realistic. Other than that I did enjoy her character, particularly how loyal she is to her family and friends. Rafe had a bad experience just prior to the book where his betrothed was cheating on him and Rafe ended the engagement only to be seen as the bad guy. He's really in a no-win situation which I felt bad for him about. I did really enjoy his character as he's charming and just wants to do the right thing.

Angeline and Rafe's relationship starts out slowly as while they're both attracted to one another, Rafe is hesitant to get involved with anyone due to how his engagement ended. As the two spend time together, with Angeline trying to get Rafe to smile or laugh, they form a friendship of sorts. Once their relationship develops into something more, it moves fairly quickly with Angeline actually taking the lead. There was a bit of drama when Rafe's former betrothed shows up at the house party, but it was actually dealt with fairly quickly.

Overall I enjoyed The Angel and the Aristocrat and will definitely be continuing the series with The Scholar and the Scot soon.

The second of six friends to find love at the house party of their former teacher, who’s now a Countess. A fun entertaining read, Angeline is absolutely delightful & lights up a room, she's determined to make the dour Rafe smile. I also loved Rafe who once bitten is out to see if Angel is genuinely as good as she seems or if it’s just a front like his former fiancée Farrah. I loved the attraction between the pair but their budding romance is thrown into jeopardy when Farrah arrives. But Angel is a cousin of the Wild O’Sheas! A very well written novella, which I devoured in a sitting

The Never Ending🐉 House 🏰Party🍷

Or Five Weeks Before the Mast⛵
ADULT Historical Recency Romance and Adventure
Five Weeks at a country estate🏰 house party for young single peers of the realm! No hanky panky going on? Of course there is! Good Grief!

Lady Angeline O'Shea💃💋, comes from Ireland🍀 to attend the five year reunion of her finishing school classmates and a combined singles get together, and matchmaking fest by her former teacher. She immediately falls💕 for Lord Rafe🐺🍆⛲, McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury, there licking his wounds and hiding out from a broken engagement.

ARC Provided by Book Funnel🌀
I also got this ebook from Amazon 📚with KU.

The book has some of the same problems the last one had with historical accuracy. Duke's are never ever called Lord, they are Duke's, a separate class from lords, and they are above all lords. They are addressed as Duke ______, or Your Grace, and announced as His Grace, Duke of _______ at functions. I'm not sure about a five week house party, although since it took so long to get places and logistics were so tedious, I know guests or visitors often stayed a long time at their friends estates.

I still enjoyed the story, even with the historical errors. It's fun and sort of a romantic💕 comedy.

Love This Series ❤️

This is Book 2 in the Second Chance Manor. Lady Fangfoss was their finishing school teacher, now she is married to an Earl. She is having a summer house party and is also a matchmaker.

Her former students are best friends from their school days. This book is about Angeline and Rafe! I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, this is a fun and witty story! I am in the process of reading each book on my Kindle Unlimited. The series are standalone, but so much better read in order.

Another great addition to this fun series and this time with Angeline, Angel and Rafe.

Rafe was getting away from an engagement gone bad and Angel was finally getting out since the passing of her father. To say their first meeting was memorable.. well it involved a vase of flowers spilled and a definite spark between the two!

Rafe could not help thinking about Lady Angeline. "She radiated a sort of Irish sunshine that made his brain hurt." Ladies were usually underhanded, wanting his fortune and vain. But he had to rid himself of whatever had taken over his brain to make him think only of her.

Well so much for that! It seemed that no matter what he did, she counted with her sweet personality. Could these two really make it together? A wonderful, fun journey to a happy ever after is in store and don't miss it!

Lovely, quick read. Lady Angeline O’Shea is a guest at a house party along with her friends from school. Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury is hiding himself at the same party, trying to stay away from the gossip in London. Rafe is rather pessimistic about women, having been burned by his former fiancé and can't believe Angeline is as nice, sweet and innocent as she seems. Loved these characters and was rooting for them from the start. Ms Farmer's writing style is so enjoyable and immersive you won't want to stop reading.

I enjoyed this short little read. The writer did a great job with with romance between Rafe and Angeline. For me this was a happily ever after love story. The entertainment made up for the light drama that the story entailed. The flow of conversations between characters was simple and understanding.
I like that most characters were witty. The description of the scenery provided me the visual that I needed while reading the story. No one moment of the story I found boring or dull. This is a wonderfully written love story.

After reading the first book of the series and loving it, I was really excited for this one… but I found the story a little shallow, there are no big surprises or plot twists and even though the writer says that it is a steamy book… I disagree, there are 2 sex scenes but they are nothing but words, I could not feel it. Like everything happened so fast and without any issues that I could not actually believe this story, if that makes any sense…

The Angel and the Aristocrat, Book 2 of the Second Chance Manor series, was about Lady Angeline "Angel" O’Shea, sister to Lord Avery O’Shea, the new Earl of Carnlough, and Lord Rafe McAllister, the Marquess of Rothbury, recently single after a broken engagement with a reputation that had been horribly demolished.
After leaving school and having a very short Season in London, Angeline had been called back to Ireland and had to spend the last five years tending to her sick father rather than seeking a husband on the Marriage Mart. After her father succumbed to his prolonged illness sick months earlier, Angeline was at loose ends, not knowing what to do next. Until the invitation came from the Countess of Fangfoss, formerly Miss Julia Twittingham, owner of the Twittingham Academy finishing school in London where she had lived for two years, to attend a house party for a reunion with five of her closest friends from that school. Angeline fretted (as she always did about everything) that her old classmates would no longer recognize her as it had been so long since they were last together. Not wanting to travel alone, her brother, Lord Avery, decided to attend the house party with her.
The last thing Rafe wanted was to be at a house party. He didn't want to be around people. He especially longed to avoid young women who were eagerly in search of a husband. While he did need a wife and an heir or two, he wasn't looking for an emotional attachment but rather something more of a marriage of convenience.
The more time Rafe and Angel spent together, the stronger the attraction grew. Rafe kept trying to prove Angel was no different than all the other women who were after titles and money, but he was proven wrong at every turn. The more he learned about her, the more he desired her, and the more she desired him. The humor between Rafe and Angel was pretty remarkable. The way they teased each other, sometimes innocently and others on purpose, was hilarious. There was some angst and a bit of drama to keep the story interesting and flowing freely. The characters were well developed and fleshed out. I would say that the "steam level" was "very hot", indeed, for it was definitely smoldering. The hints of passion below the surface were definitely wanting to boil over at times. When they did, it was volcanic.
Things took a turn Angel wasn't expecting, and everything in her hurt. She had such a soft heart and, some would say, that she was too much of a pansy. However, she did have a backbone and knew how to go after what she wanted and to stand up for herself as she needed to. She just didn't let life give her a jaded outlook that most authors have their characters be, either male or female. Angel was...what she was. A soft, easy-mannered, loving young lady.
Once again, the storyline was well thought out, with little to no fluff. The flow of the book kept the reader's attention well enough that it was hard to put down. While a short novella, it had everything any full-length novel could have offered and it definitely deserved a five-star rating and a place with the Keeper for the Shelves collection.

Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury, is brooding due to his former fiancée causing his name to be dragged through the mud and attached to scandal she caused and blamed him for. This has left a sour taste for women at the moment for him.

Lady Angeline (Angel) O’Shea, cousin to the Wild O'Shea in Ireland, has just spent the last five years playing bridesmaid to her father and loving it. she is genuinely kind, supportive, and friendly.

While at a house party given by the Countess of Fangfoss— who was formerly Miss Julia Twittingham, owner of the Twittingham Academy, she accidentally bumps a case of flowers right into Lord Rothbury. Angel notices his sadness as well as his brooding and decided she will get him to smile if it takes the full time at the house party.

Rage wants to see if Angel is genuine or like his former fiancée, Lady Farrah Beauregard. As the two spend time together Angel tried anything and everything she can thing of, including suggestive comments, to get a smile. Rage tells her that his smiles are for rare occasions.

Lady Farrah sends four letters to Rafe, who does not respond. So she arrives uninvited and unannounced to drag him off with her to get married since she is now with child and her lover left her.

Will Angel get Rafe to smile? Will the two get a happy ending? What other mischief will Angel, helped by her friends, get up to in order to get a smile or will marriage be what she wants in the end. Will Lady Darren end up with Rage or someone else?

So come along on the madcap adventures of the house party to enjoy a six week fun frivolity. Visit Roman Ruins, shoot archery, sketch shanty clad men in Toga's, and get caught in the rain after chasing a hat. See how much fun you will have with these crazy characters, great would building, and witty banter.

This is the second book in the series written by three authors, about six friends who attended Twittingham Academy & graduated five years ago but still find themselves unwed. Their former teacher, Miss Julia (now Countess Fangoss) is unhappy with this outcome, so she is hosting a house party to find each of the ladies a husband.

Lady Angeline O’Shea was thrilled to be graduating from school and couldn't wait to find a husband in her first season. However, that was not to be - she was called back home to Ireland to offer care to her father who was dying. His sickness finally took his life and now she needed to do her duty and find a husband. Angeline is still the sweet, kind & innocent lady but she is older & wiser now & she, with her brother as chaperone, are on their way to a house party. Her dearest school friends will be there & it will be the first time she has been in society for five years.

Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquis of Rothbury, is handsome, rich & has come to the house party in Yorkshire to get away from society gossip. His betrothed was unfaithful and broke the engagement but then spread vicious rumors about him that he was the one who ruined her, which wasn't true, but the rumor spread like wildfire. Now, all he wants to do is relax, be with his men friends - he knows he must marry eventually but are all ladies like his ex-fiancée?

Angeline & Rafe hit it off instantly - he needs to find out if she is really the Angel she seems to be & her main goal is to make the brooding marquess smile. They fall in love after a few weeks and then his ex-fiancée, Farrah, shows up at the house party & you know nothing good can happen with that. Rafe & Angel were a fabulous couple & all her friends & her brother brought so much love to the story. I highly recommend this book & the series, plus it can be read on KU too!

SHORT, CUTE AND SWEET.

I don't usually enjoy novellas as much, but this one had very likeable characters and the insta-love was believable enough not to put me off.

RAFE was abandoned by his fiancée and his name is being dragged through the mud for compromising his ex-betrothed prior to 'abandoning' her. Except, the truth is that he's the wronged party and the lady sullied his name in order to protect her own. So, he's accepted a house party in the country to lick his wounds and perhaps find a new bride. Rafe's in a completely bad mood and who could blame him? Partying is the last thing on his mind, until, an angel literally bumps into him and ruins his good shoes and trousers. It's instant attraction but not love, thankfully. Rafe's very attracted to Angeline but he's determined to prove she's like all the other society ladies - absolute harpies. Except, this fresh Irish miss proves him wrong with her innocence, bright laughter and teasing glances. She's got him completely twisted around her little finger.

ANGELINE's determined to finally find a husband after missing her chance years ago when she's been called back home to nurse her sick father. The moment she meets Rafe, she knows that he's the one she wants to marry and actively pursues him despite being a rather shy character. I like how she's not afraid to be honest about what she wants, and there are no silly misunderstandings that ruin their wholesome and innocently cute and genuine courtship.

OVERALL may I just say this is a classic courtship at its best? Drama free and it gives you butterflies like that first time you crushed so hard on a hot guy. Yep, this is how this book will make you feel.

I loved The Angel and the Aristocrat by Merry Farmer. This book is the second in the Second Chance Manor series but this book reads as a standalone. Angeline left finishing school five years ago and has spent her time taking care of her sick father. She hasn't married and is ready to get back into the game. She is extremely sweet, kind, beautiful and funny. She's also clumsy and laughs a bit too much (in her opinion). She meets Rafe by quite by accident when she knocks a vase of flowers all over his trousers and shoes.

Rafe was engaged to a woman who has ruined her reputation and in turn has tried to ruin his. He is a bit sad and only wants to get away from society for a time. An invitation to a house party filled with young ladies sounds like the perfect place to get away. When he meets Angeline he thinks she is beautiful but not for him.

Circumstances might have been against them but true love always prevails and Angeline and Rafe were more than worthy of their happy ending. I really liked both characters. The book is super steamy and well written. A fun read for the summer. I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Lady Angeline O’Shea is at a house party hosted by the Countess of Fang where the intention is that the 6 former finishing school friends find themselves suitable husbands.
Angeline sets her sights on Lord Rafe McAllister, Marquess of Rothbury, whose reputation had suffered after his former fiancée claimed that he had ruined her reputation and dumped her. He is now very wary of all women, who normally are just after his status and money, but is very taken with the delightful, innocent Angeline. Can she break down his barriers and persuade him to marry her?
This is a lighthearted Regency romp, but with some serious undertones, that this author writes so well. With the machinations going on for the girls to find husbands, but with some obstacles in the way, there are some very spicy moments if those aren't your thing. A great way to spend an evening, or an afternoon by the pool if you are actually allowed to do this, and disappear into Regency England.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.

This is the second book in the Second Chance Manor series, each one written by a different author. This was a fun, witty, and just plain enjoyable read. The characters of Rafe and Angeline were well-developed and relatable. Ms. Farmer did a great job of bringing these characters and their story to life. Rafe is still hurting from his broken engagement and although he knows he must marry eventually, he's not quite ready to get back in the marriage mart. He meets Angeline and is attracted to her, but skeptical of her cheerful, sunny nature. Angeline is a sweet and genuinely nice girl and she is determined to make the sulking Marquess smile. The banter between the two was witty and hilarious and you could feel the chemistry between them, just jumping off the pages. This was an absolutely delightful and charming read and I am glad to recommend such a fun and entertaining book!

I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

In this story the author presents the reader with a basic love-at-first-sight romance in which the hero's complicated, seemingly scandalous past betrothal failure haunts the road to happiness. But the heroine exhibits the bold spirit of her cousins, the "wicked" O'Shea sisters featured in a series by this author, and simply decides to seduce her man in order to force a marriage approval from her brother.
However, resolving the final complication seems a bit too contrived and improbable to me. My favorite parts of the story: the dialogue and activities among the unwed friends from finishing school, which amused me and reminded me of my own group from sorority house days. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a short, easy, entertaining historical romance with HEA, and have no objections to sexual intimacy outside marriage.

Angeline is too good to carry a book

I really wanted to like this one since I really enjoyed the first so much, but it got very boring- very quickly. Angeline was too ridiculously childish and kind to be taken seriously and Rafe was just okay. The story could have been really cute but that’s actually why it got boring. It was too cute for too long. The “angst” was not worth it even being there and the Angeline’s decision to seduce Rafe was so unnecessary. I get the need for heat, but the heat wasn’t there. I’ve been more swept away by a kiss than I was their love making moment. This was a short book that felt long and that’s sad. I’ll continue with the series, but I’m not anxious to read this author’s next installment. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised, after all, I did like the beginning of this book, just not the way it continued.

A misunderstood Marquess

Rafe has a terrible reputation of ruining his ex and refusing to marry her! In actuality she fan away with a man. She ruined Rafe reputation in a very petty move! Angel appears to good to be true and Rafe can't believe she is all sunshine and beauty! Angel is but she's learned about naughty behavior from her cousins the O'shea family in Ireland! (Really should read that series is lit)!
But Rafe never smiles and Angel has made it her life mission to see his smile! Rafe however smiles at the wrong time and place and all bets are off! Rafe ex appears and she claims him once again as hers!
Well Angel is anything but when it comes to her man!! Well don't read with glasses because they will fog up with steam on the way to thus HEA!!

Thankful this book is short

Well this was rather ridiculous it is not a historical romance even if it labeled that way. It is a contemporary romance with people dressed and titles as they would be in the 1800’s. The characters act waaaayyyyy too forward for the time period. That is just the tip of the iceberg the other issues are that nothing is ever discussed properly. I still don’t know if Rafe the hero cared for his ex-fiancé at all. I don’t know why lady Angeline fell in love with him other than the fact that he is handsome. It was all very ridiculous. There is zero depth to the characters. I do have to admit that I skipped a lot to keep from rolling my eyes. Not reading anything else by this author

Angeline, a cousin to the mischievous O’Shay’s, has found the man she wants to marry and Rafe is happy to accommodate but there are a few bumps along the way. I love the character of Angeline and even though she is an innocent, she has a wealth of knowledge that is unusual for unwed young ladies of that time. Its a great read that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. Its a fairly short story that I read in one afternoon.

For a short story, this one had all of the emotions and more. What I really dislike in stories is when the hero or heroine concoct a scheme to put the other in a position that they have to marry. Well, I thought this story was going in that direction and I was bummed. But, that is not what happened. Smarter minds prevailed. I really loved Rafe. He was very level-headed and sweet. Angeline at first seemed like a flighty girl that I don’t usually like but she saw reason. I really liked this book by the end. Merry does it again.

The Angel and the Aristocrat was such a sweet short historical romance! I was truly excited for Angeline’s story and Merry Farmer (whom I’m only discovering) did not disappoint. The story was fun, cute, and deeply entertaining with some hot moments.

Angeline and Rafe made my heart melt and Merry Farmer’s pretty writing made it so easy to fall in love with their story, I wish it had been longer.
While I enjoyed the first half of The Angel and the Aristocrat more than the second, I am definitely looking forward to reading The Buccaneer and the Bastard!

A fun and enjoyable read from Ms Farmer.Angeline is a cousin of O'shea sisters who all are very interesting and independent. I have already read and enjoyed their respective stories.
Angelina is second of the six friends after Lady clementine to find love in this book.
She is a breath of fresh air ,cheerful and innocent.Rafe is hurt and doesn't believe in anyone after being jilted.
The attraction is instant but there is a lot of apprehension. It was interesting to read how Rafe let's his guard down and fall in love.
A short and hot read.
