A FORMER FBI AGENT IS DENIED PAROLE AND ON HIS WAY BACK TO PRISON. Former Fed Jason Maxfield is seven years into a ten-year prison sentence. With his hopes of an early release dashed by the parole board, he resigns himself to serving his sentence. But his day is about to get much worse.
HIS PRISON TRANSPORT IS STORMED BY ARMED MEN WHO THREATEN HIS FAMILY. Armed men storm the bus. Jason’s old adversary leads them. He threatens Jason’s ex-wife before knocking him unconscious. Not only that, but the daughter whose name he doesn’t even know is also at risk. Jason regains consciousness and realizes his choice is he can return to prison or he can use the key his enemy left lying within reach to free himself.
HE HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO RUN. He takes the second option, desperate to get to his ex-wife and daughter before his sinister adversary can find them.
Dan Decker lives in Utah with his family. He has a law degree and spends as much time as he can outdoors. You can learn more about upcoming novels at dandeckerbooks.com.
Jason Maxfield, former FBI undercover agent investigating Taft, now 7 yrs into a 10 yr prison sentence for money laundering was just denied parole. He just wants to do his time & get out. His prison bus is attacked, prisoners & guards killed (all but one) and a bystander is filming "his escape". Only it's the supposedly dead Taft getting his revenge.
It's a full day of US Marshalls hunting Maxfield while Taft is pulling strings (threatening his ex-wife & daughter) to exact revenge. Somehow the bystander, Harper decides to try and capture then aids Maxfield in saving his family. The motivation of Harper is said to be a redemption for quitting the police academy but that seems weird.
The hunt is on, will Jason save his "family" from Taft, will he be recaptured and will Harper continue to "help".
The book starts out with quick action and continues. The story moves along nicely and smartly, also showing the single mindedness of law enforcement to catch their man while ignoring the bigger picture. Maxfield's wife is a totally self serving piece of work who makes me wonder why Maxfield cares more about her and an unknown kid than any stranger who is significantly nicer by simply saying hello. The US marshal's sudden change from not believing threats to believing that things are now real seems thin. Where are the cops in the last many minutes? Seems a little pushed. Otherwise a decent story with few mental leaps that detract.
I always have high hopes when I start a multi-volume series but am so often disappointed. And this was disappointment. A jailed former Fed is being sent back from a parole hearing when the transport bus is taken over by bad guys. It's all downhill from there. The writing is disjointed and poorly edited. The fugitive changes clothes with a dead guard who was shot in the back but no one on the street notices all the blood. He has a woman with "short blond hair pulled back in a pony tail." I bailed at the 20% page.
If it was a film it would be a cross between The Fugitive and Diehard. The story was good but was a lot packed in to stretch it out and it got a bit confusing at the end, like a Bond film where the baddie has to talk instead of just shooting and getting it over with. The main cop character is blind to the obvious and the bad man with one hand is very confusing as he seems to sometimes have two. The wife is a total bitch and would be laughed out of court on parental rights over visitation.
Loved everything about this book! Never would have guessed the ending! Jason is a true hero and the kind of man we are glad is on this side of the law. Irene was kind of a weird character but she has a place in the story right to the end. Can anyone really be as self-centered as her...proving herself to herself? Glad she didn't stop the real hero in the story. Definitely reading Book 2!
This book was very good for the first half-thrilling, fast paced, page turning. Then, about halfway through, it gets bogged down and I mean BIG time. There is a standoff/chase in an office building that drags on forever. It goes around in circles and repeats itself as you keep begging the book to "get somewhere." It never really does. Read the first half and the last ten pages. You won't miss a thing.
If you like thrillers about FBI agents that have been framed by a criminal mastermind, this story is for you. Jason Maxfield has been in prison for money laundering and drug charges. On his way back from his parole hearing his transport bus is involved in an accident. The guards are killed and the man that "set him up" tells him that he is going to kill both Jason's ex-wife and daughter. This leads Maxwell to escape to try to save the ones he still loves.
There is a lot of action because the whole book takes place in 6 hours. The story tells the action of every person in the book. You will know everything that each character does and what they think. It is an interesting book and at the end you want to know what happen to Max and how the lives of everybody turns out.
A poor adaptation of an old story. All of the characters were completely forgettable especially the insane U.S.Marshal, the crazy shrew of an ex wife and the wanna be cop washout. Main character was so poorly portrayed that I was hoping he got caught by page 10. Overall Mr. Decker has done much better. This one has me skimming just to end it.
(2 1/2). Action by the gallon. Cliches in an equal measure. A very contrived story. Yes,I did like the protagonist, Jason Maxfield, and maybe the follow up vehicle for him will be a little more on point, but I will not hold my breath. This was a great book to read the last day of a long weekend and waiting for and taking a plane home. OK stuff.
Jason Maxfield (an Ex FBI Undercover Agent) is cornered into and involved in a very tricky and tight situation planned by his arch enemy Phil Tate (who had faked his death years earlier) sending Jason to 10-year jail sentence. Cast in Chicago, a fast-paced, great thriller from start to finish.
This was a new author for me and it caught me by surprise. Very well written with a great storyline and really great characters. The thrills made it unputdownable, read straight through. Can’t wait for next one.
If you like good people that are slightly flawed and bad guys that are really bad you'll like this read. Max Damage just keeps building right to the end.
A good read. I just had to finish it as I wanted to know what happened to Jason. Where did he go after he escaped. Did he get off after Taft was alive and he had been set up? Did he connect with his wife and daughter? Is there a follow on book?
This story kept you on your toes until the end. I so much drama and subterfuge. I felt sorry for Jason.I hoped he would have gotten together with Harper. Can't wait to read more and see what happens to him. Great read!
Interesting, well written, believable characters. Plot had me rooting for both sides simultaneously. Well done! Thoroughly enjoyable but I want a sequel!
This is a good book that kept me turning pages from beginning to end. I enjoyed his character Jason Maxfield. The character Harper was a little weird to start but she grew on me.
Extremely satisfying book. Characters seem real. Situation seems possible. Highly recommended. I intend on checking out books by the author I enjoyed this book so much.
