things to remember and put into practice: the overflowing teacup, the raisins, the beginners mind, the Buddha mind, counting 1-10, deep breaths full lungs, body scan and mindful eating.

Tadinya saya berpikir buku ini akan menjelaskan bagaimana menjadi seseorang yang lebih tenang (haha), tapi nyatanya buku ini membahas cukup dalam mengenai Zen dan Budhism. Dari buku ini saya mengambil kesimpulan bahwa Zen adalah kemampuan kita melihat dengan jelas tentang diri kita sendiri, tentang dunia, dan tentang kita di dalam dunia. Bagaimana Zen juga mengajarkan tentang the beginner's mind yang erat kaitannya dengan ke-rendahhati-an. Bagaimana sikap kita mengosongkan cangkir terlebih dahulu ketika mempelajari suatu hal yang baru, agar kita bisa menerima secukupnya, dan justru tidak tumpah sia-sia. Saya teringat pengalaman mengikuti ESQ pada lebih dari 10 tahun yang lalu (haha) yang mengajarkan teknik serupa. Ada beberapa hal penting bagi saya dalam buku ini yang sayangnya tidak sempat dipaparkan lebih lanjut yaitu tentang the eightfold path. Satu lagi, tentang karma. Karma mengajarkan kita bahwa setiap aksi punya konsekuensi.

Exactly what I expected; The Little Book of Zen reminds us of the complexity of Zen and how it is our state of mind that we approach decisions, actions, feelings and relationships.
Comparisons between Buddhism and Western traditions as a reminder of suffering being universal; individuals should not and cannot be blamed for their own suffering rather that suffering is just a consequence of existence.

surface level of Zen, guess i need to read another book for a more deep understanding of Zen itself
