Dr. Flip Satis is in Bisbee for all the wrong reasons, but he’s chasing the right man. He’s wanted Dr. Wallace Brinkley since Flip sat in Dr. Brinkley's anatomy class but the chivalrous older medical examiner never acted on the chemistry between them. After making a deal with the devil to be closer to his mentor and eternal crush, a summer monsoon and a dead body throw Flip’s plans into disarray.
Wallace came to Bisbee looking for a slower pace, but now his one temptation has arrived in the eccentric former mining town. When Flip needs his help, Wallace can’t turn his back on the beguiling young doctor with the haunting blue eyes.
As Flip becomes the primary suspect in the murder of a notorious businessman, Wallace turns to the Bachelors’ club for assistance. Can he solve the crime without giving into temptation, or will falling for Flip lead to grave expectations...
Author of the popular Nannies of New York and Boys of Lake Cliff book series, K Sterling has self-published dozens of books. K. is known for fast-paced romantic thrillers and touching gay romcoms. There might be goosebumps and some gore but there’s always true love and lots of laughter.
Sterling has this inate way of making the reader become fully engaged in the whodunnit in the same way that she ensures that you are totally invested in the developing romance between the MCs.
In Grave Expectations I loved the way Flip and Wallace work to protect one another, both overtly and inadvertently, as well as their dawning realisation that what they've had all these years has not just been a professional relationship, it's been a *relationship* in all ways bar the most important points. I really loved that the Bachelor's club quickly throw their support around Flip and work collectively with Wallace to prove his innocence. I love how the murder-mystery is unravelled and resolved and that it's a true whodunnit for quite some time.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I love the way the town of Bisbee is practically a character in itself. I am wondering though why anyone would want to move to Bisbee at the rate its citizens seen to be getting murdered... Though those ghosts have to have come from somewhere 😉
Now hurry up and bring me my Boo Baxter's true love!!!
Another murder to solve in Bisbee. I love these cases and the new couples that develop with each case. Flip was such a character. I loved him. As always with K. Sterling, thus book was entertaining and a great read.
I love this series of books and can’t wait for the next one. Beau, Baxter, Owen et al are beginning to feel like old friends. As usual Ms Sterling brings a little of charm and humour into her story, and the dialogue just flows. I like that her murder/mysteries are never run of the mill, there's always a little twist somewhere along the way. Her books are always just little bit different to read, and a good choice if you like quirky. I liked Flip. I liked Marshall. I liked their partnership. The story flows well with some great characters, a murder mystery to solve, and the excitement of a will they won't they relationship, (although I knew they would 😉). My only moan is that I'd like more ghosts in the series generally. We don't seem to have had that many, in a town that's supposed to be OTT haunted. So, really looking forward to the next book. 4.5 ⭐s
Oh what fun! I have to admit that I was a bit confused at the beginning but that was my bad. Both Flip and Wallace are newer characters to this series and are not as known to me as the other boys (well, really men) are so I had to kill off a few extra brain cells than usual to connect the dots. But once I was working on all cylinders it was pure heaven of a story. I had no clue who'd gone done it and was pleasantly surprised to find out who it was and how they all went about figuring it out. We get a little more of a glimpse of Ross and of Baxter (yea!) and I'm betting on who has Owens heart, can't wait for his story to figure out if I am truly right or not. A series well worth the read, either through Kindle Unlimited or better yet shell out the $4.99 of each entry and the 1st entry in the series is free right now. No better time than the present to start a new habit.
I am reading this series straight through so it is very easy to compare each couple in the series. Of the four so far, this is my favorite mystery, with a lot of the continuing secondary characters, and it's a longer length so those are the positives for me. However, I just didn't fall for Wallace or Flip, the MCs. Wallace seemed different from when we've seen him in the previous books and maybe that's explainable as his work vs. non-work persona, but I missed any sign of the hippy, new-age-ish medical examiner. And this is very superficial, but I can't get past Flip as an MC's name. I know this is connected in my brain to the teacher-student trope which is in play here and this is definitely one of my least favorite tropes.
This latest instalment in the Bisbee Bachelor’s Club introduces us to the medical examiner and the man who loves him. Wallace and Flip have a complicated relationship and it grows even more complicated when a person is murdered and Flip is considered a primary suspect. But both men are honourable and do their best to fight their feelings. Or set them aside for the moment. Sterling does a great job building up the tension while showing the absolute love and devotion between Wallace and Flip.
I love the cameo appearances between the rest of the club and the by play between them all is a highlight
If you like age gap, devoted men and found family, this is your book.
There has been a murder in Bisbee and the medical examiner Wallace has been called in. Flip has been in love with Wallace for years and Wallace has not been cooperative but now has to defend Flip against accusations. Flip feels Wallace is becoming more receptive and he says "I don't know if I can handle more bad news today. I just want to hide and sit on different parts of you." Now who could resist that?😉
This book was a fun continuation of the Bisbee Bachelor series. There's a murder, some mystery, a romance, friendship, and some very steamy scenes! Flip has always known that he and Wallace are meant to be together and I couldn't help rooting for him. I really liked this book and can't wait for the next in the series.
Did not think I would care about the doctor getting an HEA...I WAS WRONG!! Every time I read this series, I ask myself how will this book top the other one I just loved. Every book lives up to the hype, I adore this series...and good for Flip for getting his man!
If I’d read this series at any other point of my life I may have given them a lower rating, but I think I found these books exactly when I needed them and, even though I usually really dislike some of these tropes, I loved them.
I’m looking forward to coming back to Bisbee in the next books.
I'm loving this new series How my naughty girl keeps me up till I'm done, is nuts And I'm horrible at reviews but she definitely deserves it I want to live in Bisbee, not knowing what is around the corner that's for me And all the yummy guys to have coffee with yes please Thank you Miss Sterling you did it again
The town and support cast are always interesting in these roles and investigations. Read it for that.
Rating: 3.5🌈
I really am invested in K Sterling’s universe she’s creating for The Bisbee Bachelors’ Club series but the characters relationship, or specifically the character of Dr. Flip Satis really didn’t work well for me. Or his storyline.
It’s unfortunate because the character paired with him, Dr Wallace Brinkley, Bisbee’s ME, is one I’ve become very fond of. He’s quirky, older, knowledgeable, and his way of thinking and understanding his patients in the morgue is fascinating.
So having Sterling him in an age gap developing relationship with someone who’s been, it turns out, stalking him because of a crush, is problematic for starters. The issues with Dr. Flip Satis continues because every time there’s an instance where he might be a little bit more appealing, it turns out that he’s still full of secrets. Ones he’s keeping hidden, even from the “man he loves “. This we learn from Flip’s inner monologue, a conversation that is full of hints about how he should be spilling secrets but doesn’t. That gets old fast, in the narrative and with the character.
This also impacts on how I perceive the relationship and the investigation proceedings.
All in all, this wasn’t one of the strongest stories and I didn’t find Flip a character I liked. Maybe if more of his history and background had been written in, but instead as is, Flip was a person I didn’t connect with.
But it does explore the personality of another ambiguous character and sets him up nicely for a book to come. Can’t wait for that story.
The town and support cast are always interesting in these roles and investigations. Read it for that.
Dr. Flip Satis has followed coroner, Dr. Wallace Brinkley to Bisbee. Flip was Wallace's student and fell in love with him. Because he was a student and because of the age difference, Wallace has acted as a friend but will not let it go beyond that. Wallace calls Flip to help him with a body. When Flip gets there he steps back because the dead man is the man he was supposed to have dinner with that night. Flip had a migraine and can't remember much before arriving a the restaurant for dinner. The dead man's son accuses Flip. Flip must reveal his relationship with the victim. The man funded his college education and was funding his research project. Wallace finally decides to give a relationship with Flip a chance. They are really sweet together. They mystery is solved and the guilty party is arrested.
But I felt we needed to get to know them a little sooner for them to get there story. Flip was introduced in the book before and Wallace just a little bit here and there. I wasn't really as interested in there relationship as I would be for say Baxter or Russ or Owen. We have a built up history with these characters and want them to have their happily ever after. The mystery murder and the investigation as always is interesting and kept the book going and entertaining.
