It’s bad. The writing was bad. The characters were shallow. That ending was really bad. It was a train wreck. Thankfully it was short. 1 star So glad it was free via KU. Not recommend.
It had 3 strikes against it. 1. It was AI narrated. 2. The main character was awful. There was no point when either of them was useful. She was either overpowered, over-cocky or just dumb as a bag of rocks and useless. He was a vigilante that was afraid to get his fangs dirty. 3. The plot, if there was one, made no sense. I still don't get if they kill the vampires. I know it says that they don't, but they can't just take all the vampires' stuff, pass a ball over its eyes and make it forget it was robbed.
The story had 2 things going for it. 1. Kate. She was an interesting character. 2. The author did not overuse a particular word/phrase like she tends to do in every book.
Thank God the first books are free so you know not to actually pay for this stuff.
The main character, Jeanette, feels like a young Diana Tregarde without the same degree of common sense, caution and training. It is not surprising that she becomes over-confident and ends up in a bind. I personally think that that might just be the best that that could have happened to her. She is learning all sorts of things that she did not know, including how to be a friend. Not bad for someone who had to sign a bargain with a perceived devil!
“Tomorrow isn’t just built in your actions. Nor is it simply built on the circumstances we find ourselves in. Tomorrow is built in the unique energy of our own minds. And what is magic but that ability that connects our minds to the world beyond?”
I enjoyed this book. The author is very creative. The main character is a witch who hates vampires. But one night, a very powerful vampire captures her and forced her to serve him in fighting against evil vampires.
