Russ
They call me a bad boy, and thirteen years ago they would have been right.
I’ve done things I’m not proud of.
Served time.
Broken hearts and bones alike.
But I’m a changed man now. I don’t break the law for a living anymore; I write books about guys like me who fall in love with other guys. It’s as close to a happily ever after as I think I’ll get…
Until Colton shows up in my remote cabin in the middle of a snowstorm, so timid and young and sweet.
I’ve given up my wicked ways, but damn if he doesn’t make me want to do bad, bad things…

Colton
I didn’t mean to get lost on my way to the big New Year’s Eve party, and I definitely didn’t mean to drive my car into a snowbank, but here I am in the middle of nowhere, stranded in front of a creepy cabin, about to freeze to death.
The only way I’ll make it through the night is if I go inside, but there’s no telling who might be in there. It very well could be a serial killer, or a horror movie monster…
Or a bearded, tattooed bad boy with a big secret who’ll steal my heart and make me never want to leave.

Bad Boy is the first book in the Masters of Romance series, where romance authors don’t just write about happily ever afters—they live them. Get ready for love, laughter, and some serious steam. No cheating and no love triangles, guaranteed. Bad Boy can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s way more fun to binge them all. Which author are you most excited to see get his HEA?

DNF

I’m not one to DNF a book, I always try to stick it out and finish the book, even if i’m not enjoying it. But I just couldn’t do it in this case. I really tried to keep on reading but then I got to the part where a virgin, was fucked 5 times in one night by a guy who we’re told has a really big dick. Why are we trying to murder the poor guy? Is the goal to sent him straight to the hospital?

What a shame too, I was so excited to read this book. Everything about the blurb was just calling my name and I love a bad boy. But nothing about this book worked for me.

This book is exactly what it would be like if someone, in the 1950s, who doesn’t really know how sex works, made a 7 hours long porno, with a dominating man and a woman who exists only to please that man, but they only wrote the script instead of filming it and they switched the woman for a small, pretty and inexperienced young man.

I would like to finish my review with this lovely little quote that really rubed me the wrong way, this is not the 1920s anymore. I want a partner who won’t mind when I spoil him—someone docile I can support and love shamelessly. No drama. Only him, me, and the life I make for us.
I think the word you’re looking for is submissive, not docile. Also, only you get to make a life for the both of you? Seriously? Your partner doesn’t even get a say on anything?

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review..

What I liked...
- The forced proximity trope... I love it
- Colton's inner monologue...
- Russ's other persona and the relationship he has with the other authors.
- Will... he intrigued me! And I loved how he, as an alpha reader, was Russ's biggest fan.
- Steamy sex scenes
- the Doggy!!

Niggles...
- That first sex scene came out of nowhere. it literally smacked me in the face, jarred me and the story just took a hit for me from there on out.
- Virgin Colton who didn't give it up to his longtime boyfriend gave it up to a stranger...he didn't know his name, even. that for me was too much, too unbelievable and it took away from how seriously I took the book.
- I know this is fiction, but there are some things that just didn't make sense.... Colton's dad and how he reacted to his son staying with an stranger ex-con, The sheriff and his involvement, The ex boyfriend and how that was handled towards the end of the book.. and many other tbh.

I was expecting more from the book/author. But... i will read the others because I'm interested in knowing what will happen to the others and who will end up with who.

I'm so proud of myself for finally making it to the end .... 10 months ... seriously I started this in December last year. The first few pages were super amazing, I thought this was going to be the perfect winter book. There were two very different characters in a cabin, a wonderfully crazy dog. And sooooo much snow.
And sex, oh my god. Hot and all, even if it was a bit rushed and insta, which wouldn't have been so necessary because Colton and Russ couldn't get away anyway.

By the time I’ve memorized the pattern of freckles on his thighs, he’ll be relaxed enough to fit me. If not, I’ll spend the night training him to take just the tip and maybe by morning I’ll be able to push inside. 🥵

Well, and then sex ... and sex ... and sex ... And then Russ chats with his author friends and I just thought "Where's the plot? And can the whole thing be any more boring, please?"
And it didn't get any better, unfortunately. I had hope, because potential for tension and conflict was there. And Russ and Colton are so different that that alone should be enough to produce interesting conversations. But no, they fuck like rabbits and exactly nothing happens. Even after the snow melts ... I don't know what to say, I'm just disappointed.

I can't decide how to rate this. I think I'll pass on a rating. The writing style is really good and if you just want to read it for smut, it probably works. Just not for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Didn’t work for me.

Beware of:
Virgin sexfest (two strangers get it on 5 times in one night & one is a virgin—ouch)
Weird chemistry between the characters
Insta
Odd characters
Lack of empathy for the characters
Strange set-up for the “plot”

Admittedly...
I didn’t finish the book
I didn’t like the characters
I loved the prequel to this!!
I generally like this author (particularly writing as Piper Scott)
I’m all for lots of sex when I like the blokes
Maybe I didn’t give this book enough of a chance

My rec? It worked for some, but not for me.

This book won’t work for everyone but thank god it did for me. I just loved everything from it. My eyes were glued from start to finish. Not the best written nor the well-plotted kind of storyline but in the end it didn’t really matter. It made me grin and swoon every time and that’s what matters to me. It gave me this serotonin boost I never thought I needed. Not being a nitpicker is honestly a blessing in my reading experience. There were quite a lot to be critical about this story but my giddiness over this overrode everything. I’m excited for the other ‘masters’ of romance!

It pains me to write this because I had super high hopes for this series but this book was REALLY not for me... for these reasons...

It’s 112k words....
I can’t just read a f*ckfest and internal musing for 5+ hours can I?

What’s faster than insta-love???
That’s this relationship.

If I didn’t know any better I’d say this was an Alpha/Omega relationship and Colton is in constant heat like in an mPreg novel.
The amount of sex in this book is over the top excessive! AND for me to say that! That IS saying something! Sure a virgin can have sex 5xs in one night. No problem.
This isn’t a spoiler this happened in the first 10% of the book. Uh huh... eye roll... 🙄🙄

65% in and I really cannot go on...DNF-ing..

I think it’s the deer 🦌 that pushed me over the edge. It went from f*ckfest to Disney...seriously..I got whiplash....

this book was REALLY not for me. 😣

The Most Insta-Lusty Insta-Lust That Ever Insta-Lusted

Listen, I've read a lot of insta lust books, but this one takes the cake as the most insta lusty of all insta lusts.

The Setup:
Colton gets lost in a snowstorm on his way to a friend's party. His car gets stuck and he can't push it out of the snow. He arrives at a cabin door, seeking help. HE LETS HIMSELF INSIDE because apparently he has the survival skills of a peanut. Actually scratch that—a peanut would’ve stayed in the car and waited for AAA.

The Meet-Creep:
Russ finds a soaking wet, hypothermic stranger in his living room. He doesn't call 911 or offer dry clothes. He doesn't ask basic questions like “What are you doing out in the middle of the woods?”

Nooooooope.

Instead, he flashes his dick to Colton.

Sure. Why not.

*sigh*

The Sexcapade:
They make out. They have sex. Five times. In one night. Colton is a virgin, which he conveniently forgets to mention. So now not only does he need to go to the hospital for hypothermia but also for a split asshole. WTF am I reading right now?

Meanwhile:
His poor friend Gavin is expecting him at the party, not knowing he's getting his cherry popped by a stranger. The local sheriff puts out an APB for Colton and finds him in Russ' house. The sheriff starts asking questions like "Did Russ take you against your will?" "Did he force you to do anything?" Obviously this would raise someone's hackles right?

Right???

*deep sigh*

Colton, the absolute genius that he is, denies those claims and chooses to stay with Russ, even though he'll be stranded there for weeks before the snow clears.

The Verdict:
I’ve met some airheads in fiction, but Colton is in a league of his own. I’m convinced this book has decent ratings only because people DNF’d or flatlined from secondhand embarrassment before they could hit one star. Normally I don’t rate my DNF’s, but this was so comically bizarre I had to.

This reminds me of Wild by Adrienne Wilder. Who cares about medical aid right? Sex cures all, am I right?

It’s 4 a.m. and I was going to write this review in the morning, but I don’t want to think about these hairbrained, idiotic, useless humans for one more second. If I had to suffer through this, the least I can do is warn the next poor soul.

There's so much to love about Emma Alcott's Bad Boy! Wonderfully witty humor, marvelous characters, and of course that scintillating erotica that Emma Alcott writes so well. Russ and Colton have great chemistry, and from the moment they meet this opposites attract couple makes so much sense.

Once Colton makes it back to town, we get to meet his friend Gavin who is absolutely hilarious. (And if you want his story, Emma Alcott has recently released it as Side Character.)

Bad Boy is beautifully narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. There are some truly spectacular love scenes in this one, plus so much humor, and Mr. Ferraiuolo delivers an excellent performance.

DEFINITELY my favorite book from Piper's other pen name, and honestly I think it's one of the best things I have read from her period.

Colton gets stuck in the snow on the way to a New Year's Eve party, and instead has to brave his way into a stranger's home and hope he can find a safe place to stay while the snow comes down. Enter Russ - a man with a shady past who is just trying to stay on off the radar and write his books.

Honestly, the connection and chemistry between Russ and Colton was just everything in this book! It's intense and hot, and yeah there is definitely a bit of insta-love element going on being that they are cooped up with each other 24/7 during the storm, but it just kinda works for them.

I ADORED Colton - cinnamon roll to a T, and one filled with anxiety and nerves and constant worry. But I love that Russ was patient and so understanding and never saw that as something wrong or broken about Colton. I love that through their love and relationship, Colton was able to find some bravery and stand up for himself. I just adore him - AHHHH cinnamon rolls are my weakness LOL

And I CANNOT wait to see the stories from the other Masters of Romance - Russ' group of mm romance writers that he chats with virtually. I can't wait to read more about who they are as people.

For fans of grumpy and sunshine/cinnamon roll, age gap, forced proximity, and intense chemistry, this is a book you will want to check out!

An age-gap, lust-at-first-glance, snowed-in erotica with a romance author background plot.

Content warnings include: unprotected sex, sex on-page, character with a criminal past.

For me personally, things between the two main characters started too quickly. They jumped straight into sex, which didn't make sense at all to me. Neither of them were at a club or really looking for casual sex, and it seemed very out of character for both of them, both given their experiences and the concrete situation in which they met. It immediately broke my suspension of disbelieve.

In regards to characters: I'm absolutely the last person to judge someone based on their anxieties, being an extremely anxious person myself, but as a reader I didn't enjoy the way Colton‘s anxiety was portrayed. It just wasnt my favourite thing to read about.

The plot was… well. There wasn't that much of a plot. It very much felt more like erotica than romance. The plot that was there was a bit flimsy, and didn't engage me all that much.

I liked the friend group, the actual masters of romance, but they felt almost arbitrary for the plot. While their interactions were fun, there wasn't any depth to them and I didn't feel like I really got to know them. I wanted more of them! They also eerily reminded me of another series by the author that also has such an online chat friend group. They discuss very different topics and the overall vibe was different, but the dynamics within the group were extremely similar. Which isn't necessarily bad, since I love those dynamics, but it was noticeable (and I think I just like that other series so much I dont think anything else, even by the same author, can compare.)

I liked how clear consent was during the sex scenes, at least the later ones, as this is something the author pays attention to in her others books as well.
But overall it was very full of typical romance book clichés (which isn't bad in itself) and unfortunately the way they slotted together wasn‘t working for me.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Totally right away insta lust, then insta love. But strangely, this still worked for me. These two were smoking hot together.

For a lot, I can totally see this not working for them. These two barely say a few sentences to each other before they're kissing and then having sex. It's pretty ridiculous, I admit. But...it was fucking hot. These two had crazy chemistry right off the bat, and if I just toss out the realism that should be there and just enjoy the sexy...then I loved this.

Usually I'm not much for insta-love, but if it can be insta-love *and* the romance works, the chemistry works, then I can get past it.

Now I certainly raised my eyebrows and was like "omg what" when they just basically right away started going at it. Like what, not even a full conversation before the fucking? Come on.

But...in the end it didn't bother me too much. Because we got more. We got more of these two together, we got to see the love they had for each other. It was all consuming, really.

And sometimes you just want to read a fun romp where the two MC's are madly in love and love to fuck each other silly all the damn time. It's a fun escape.

All that realistic? Ehhhh, not really. But do I care in this? NOPE. Because it was sexy and hot and these two were sweet and romantic at the same time and I just adored them together. I didn't really want to put this down.

And I'm always a sucker for some bad boy/good boy romances. Colton, the sweet little 20 year old virgin and Russ, the 36 year old former criminal bad boy who "defiles" said sweet virgin but is also super hot and really protective and sweet and loving with said sweet guy.

Also, not really realistic how small, virgin Colton took Russ' big cock fairly well the first time. Pretty unrealistic for sure. But...whatever, it works and these two are hot together and in this instance I just don't care.

In most book I might, I probably totally would. But if the couple just works and has crazy chemistry, I can't be arsed to care that much. It's just fun and hot and sexy.

This most definitely won't be for everyone. But if you can look past the crazy fast insta-lust than insta-love and some unrealistic aspects, then you'll find yourself enjoying this one.

I mean...who doesn't dream of getting snowed in to a remote cabin and the hot, sexy muscled guy who lives there isn't a murderer but a former bad boy with a gruff exterior but really has a good heart underneath it all and will end up treating you like royalty?? I mean? We all wish, right?! Lol.

So 5 stars for me, because I just enjoyed this, even the silly, unrealistic parts. Can't wait for the next in this series! <3

It’s snowing. They meet. They fu*k. They fu*k. They fu*k again. And again. Have a rest then do it again. It’s all very insta-something.
The next morning we get some exposition and I notice I still have 4 1/2 hours to read and realise I’m pretty bored and really don’t want to continue.
My luck with books is in the shitter atm. YMMV.

So good!
Sweet, wonderful romantic kismet!

A somewhat clueless boy meets a redeeming bad boy with a romantic heart! Theses two are made for each other!

I loved Colton's sweet innocence, "fear brain", and compassionate heart. He complements Russ' broody, passionate nature.

I enjoyed the humour and unique approach to what I would consider "insta-love". These two have a passionate encounter which leads to so much more. I found the progress and passion of their relationship refreshing. Sometimes relationships can move "fast" but that doesn't mean they can't last. The quips and jives throughout enhance the comedic (or even ironic) undertones and add to the overall feel of the book, by the end I was giggling and wanting to give the book a giant hug!!

Such a great feelgood read! With colourful characters, passionate encounters and wit you can't help but love, this is a smashing start to what's shaping up to be a fantastic series. I can't wait for more!!!!

I love Emma’s writing style, loveable complex characters except for the sheriff and Harvard, snarky and humour. Colton had an overactive imagination because of this there were lots of laugh out loud moments, a funny dog and deer's that frolic around Russ and Colton. Racy hot intimate scenes. Would read again.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I definitely recommend this book.

DNF at 40%. I really wanted to make it farther, but I just couldn’t do it. Look, everyone has different tastes as far as tropes and kinks and steam goes... and I understand different strokes for different folks. But my b*tthole was clenching in horror by 20% in. Not only that, but there’s insta-love/lust, then there’s... whatever this was.

And a lecture about consent with Harvard chapters after there was dubious consent between Colton and Russ?? Yea. That was it for me.

3.5 Rounded Up.

OK, I was really excited about this book, my second from the author. I read Side Character and, despite a few minor issues, I enjoyed it. Here… not so much. The story is ok, the characters are nice and all but some of those scenes in the book felt too unreal and kinda awkward for me (one of them is right in the beginning) so it set the mood for the rest of the book… The steam level is really high, and I’ve read until the end, hoping for another path for the book. Sadly, it did not happened. I’m willing to give it a try on the next books, because I’m curious about some of the other characters. Hopefully I’ll have a better luck.

Holy mother this is a new record. 10% into the book, two strangers in a cabin alone, one so wet he could get hypothermia IMO and what do they do: no, you will never guess because is only 10% into the book ... wait no, you got it: sex.

I don’t know if one of them was having a dream and the whole scene is from their imagination but I will not stick around to find out. Won’t rate since I only read 10% and ignoring the “jump on each other’s bones who cares if you’re wet from snow and probably cold as hell” the inside dialogues from Colton were funny.

I received an ARC of Bad Boy by Emma Alcott from Gay Romance Reviews in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of Russ and Colton. There’s a big age gap and Russ had some hard living in his past. He’s isolated out in the woods and Colton ends up at his cabin after getting lost on the way to a party. It’s instalust and instabang and pretty much instalove. Also there’s a ton of sexy times, which almost got to be too much for me (more in a repetitive way than being scandalized). And if that’s all that had been there, this book would have skated in at a solid 3 stars. This story was more than the sum of its parts though.

I give this book 5 stars. Alcott’s writing is sharp and funny, and Russ is part of a group of male gay romance writers and these side characters made the book for me. The series revolves around them and I am really looking forward to reading more. The romance writers — they call themselves “Masters of Romance”— get involved and try to help Russ plot out his real-life HEA. The book was so clever and I actually laughed audibly several times (which doesn’t happen a lot for me in ebooks). I’m ready to hit preorder on book 2, and I don’t even know which of the guys it is going to be about.

Content warnings include talk of past crimes and fights, a missing person case, and talk of pressuring someone for sex (past relationship). There’s a sheriff side character so if you avoid books with law enforcement, know he’s in there a few times.

This book was so much more than I expected! It had the same humor as the prequel novella (Side Character) had, but with additional depth and intensity. Colton is this extreme introvert with a fear of almost everything, that essentially ends up at the WRONG place at the RIGHT time. Instead of driving to a New Year's Eve party to meet his bestie, he ends up in a snowbank in front of a creepy murder cabin in the woods, owned by a romance writing ex-con. When Russ finds Colton inside his house, his anger quickly turns to attraction that is very much reciprocated by Colton. Their chemistry is immediate and they are powerless to deny the passion that explodes between them. There is a problem however....Russ has a sketchy past that he can't seem to escape and Colton has friends and family fearing for his safety. The bond that Russ and Colton have is so beautiful to see develop. I loved how Colton bloomed under Russ's attention and how Russ was willing to do whatever it took to keep Colton in his life. This book had many supporting characters that were so much fun to experience. I highly recommend this series so far!

I love a good redemption story. Emma has given us one in spades here! Along with all of the humor we have come to expect from her and her alter ego. I laughed out loud at parts of this book and had to invest in a new fan for others if you get my drift. Hah and I don’t mean snow drifts. I didn’t even do that on purpose. Anywho, this book is amazing. Russ’s author friends and their Discord server chats cracked me up and gave me flashbacks to another series I know and love. This story has a little angst, but not too much, and a lot of sweetness and a whole lot of heat. Russ and Colton are like gasoline on a fire. I also love Colton’s best friend Gavin. He is absolutely fabulous and if you haven’t read Side Character yet, you need to. The dude bros and their antics are still hilarious. Do yourself a favor and read this book! I can’t wait to see where Emma takes us with the rest of the Masters of Romance and their journey’s to their own respective HEAs.

Oh. My. Goodness. This is a tasty little gem.

It's got the rough looking older guy with a dark past and a heart of gold. It's got the cute younger guy who gets stranded at a stranger's cabin in the woods (guess who's?) and goes on to experience genuine, lovely character growth. It's got dogs and deer. It's got the funniest group of authors chatting on Discord. It has loooots of...*consumption of food*

Emma Alcott really knows her craft, and it's obvious in the way she is able to subtly herd you toward an assumption about the story, then completely turn things around on you with a wink and a deft hand. It happens on multiple occasions throughout the book and I was heartily amused each time.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and I have chosen to leave an honest review.

DNF @ 37%.

I really enjoyed the prequel, Side Character, but I just can’t deal with this without lobotomizing myself.

I supposed to believe this super anxious virgin just ha his ass pounded away by a complete stranger he meets in a cabin in the middle of the woods for a billion hours straight? Do these guys have no refractory time? Does Colton have a super resilient, elastic asshole?

This feels like it wants to be some bodice ripper with Colton as a naive damsel in distress with definite power exchange dynamics, only it’s too shy to call itself smut and tries to play itself off as romance

Bad Boy is definitely a love at first sight story and I thought Colton and Russ were great together. There are definitely a lot of tropes in this book and they were really enjoyable to read. Their dialogue was great, and Colton’s inner dialogue was fascinating. It seemed at first that it was going to end really soon, but I liked how it ended and enjoyed reading right to the end. I look forward to reading more stories in the Masters of Romance series.

I really enjoyed the short story before this novel and I was looking forward to Colton's story.

Colton is a sweet young guy, I loved how precious he was. The starting scene was everything, he was the cutest ever when he tried to sneak into Russ's cabin.

Russ is - wow - just look at the cover. The hottest bad guy ever. And when these two met, wow, scorching hot! Towels got lost, and virgin boys lost their V-card. WOW. I loved that it was insta sex and insta love, there weren't one slow motion in this book. They were on each other all the time. Sex after sex. Not a surprise that they run out of condoms...

It was really sweet but I think it was a bit overwritten and it has a bit too many sex scenes? They haven't done anything, really, just jump into bed and pleaseure each other. Clothes weren't a priority to them.

Russ's 'secret identity' was really good, loved how he talked with his friends. And Colton, ahh, with his fear of everything, sweet, sweet boy.

Enjoyed reading it, but after 60% the story just repeated itself. (sex and more sex)
