“Warworld Rising” starts here! A new chapter in Superman’s life begins as the challenges of Dark Nights: Death Metal are causing Clark Kent to feel...a change in his powers. Is it possible the Metropolis Marvel could be losing a step? His struggles in taking down the creatures from the Breach would suggest as much! If he’s going to continue to protect the people of Earth, he’ll have to adapt-especially with threats like Mongul out there waiting to launch their biggest attacks on the Earth yet. That’s right, those are Warworld battleships just outside our orbit, and they are heading straight for us!

Meanwhile, in the Midnighter backup story, the bad boy of the Authority has to figure out what Andrej Trojan is up to in the present if he ever wants to get back to Future State and swap places with the Midnighter of 2021, whom he left stranded on Warworld.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson earned a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, where he served as Teaching Fellow for the Department of Jazz Studies, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Kentucky University. SFC Johnson has performed with the Lexington Philharmonic, Dallas Opera, Washington Symphonic Brass, and the Moscow Ballet, and was a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 2004 to 2005. SFC Johnson remains active as a composer, arranger, teacher, and clinician, and also enjoys a second career as a writer of comics and graphic novels. His work has been published by DC Comics, Marvel Comics, BOOM! Studios, and more.

Superman Story: 4⭐
So this is finally starting to pick up, and the better artist definitely helps with the overall presentation.

Midnighter backup: 1⭐
So I love Midnighter but this is easily the worst Midnighter I've ever read. Boring.

I can't tell PKJ's opinion on Jon. With Infinite Frontier #0, he wrote Jon should never be Superman. That he's a monster. With both his Action Comics run and Superman run, it seems like he just can't wait to make him Superman. And I get they're pushing for it on both fronts because Superman: Son of Kal-El is replacing the Superman title and being written by Tom Taylor, but I just don't understand the push. There are so many other outside factors with Philip Kennedy Johnson's run that I feel like it's not even really his story. It just seems like he has to push all these other things for DC to do what they want to do. He's their transitional writer, and it's really damaging the story. Especially when the other half of the comic is taken up by a completely different story entirely.

At least Daniel Sampere's art is beautiful, but it's not enough to save the run. You can tell the emotional impacts are there in the writing, but there's been so much going on and weird transitions that we can't even feel the impacts.

Much better than 1029. The beginning is a bit heavy handed, but the overall Superman story is well paced with good breaks between character POVs. I like Damian and Jon together, so it's nice to see a return to their friendship. I'm not rating the "bonus" story. I'm not familiar with the character. Issue content aside, I'm not thrilled with DC's plan to replace Superman. I'll give it a shot, but I won't good my breath. I'd love to see a future based title that has Jon and Damian as Superman & Batman like they were in Dead Planet.

I like the direction that Johnson is taking and unlike most writers today, it seems to me like he's writing for the issue vs writing for the graphic novel. Its a well constructed issue with good pacing and an interesting premise for Supes

An added bonus: Damian isn't annoying. Love that Action is anthology. Wish they would add a 3rd story

I don't know if it's possible for modern writers to construct a Superman story beyond a single or two that is compelling. He also slips into this rut - or series of ruts in his case. He is affected by radiation in the past story. It smells of All Star Superman. Maybe it would be as grand if not for a.new Superman and creative team coming soon.

My time loving this character is pretty much complete. I am far more interested in what Tynion is doing to Gotham. If you love this, fine. More power to you. My favorite scene was between Jon and Damian. Their friendship shouldn't work but does

I feel a great weight lifted off me. After Bendis mostly average run on Superman and Action Comics I have been looking forward to being excited about Superman again... I'm not a Bendis hater but his stilted style and disjointed storytelling isn't Superman at its best. Good sure, great no.

Superman The Man Who Fell, the sort of prelude to the WarWorld Uprising story arc was really not good, both in storytelling and art. So I was pretty disappointed because Johnson had been getting loads of postive word or mouth.

While I collect singles with other series, I only collect Action Comics in trades, so I'm always a year or so behind.

Couple days ago the trade dropped and I've just finished issue 1 of the series storyline, which is AC #1030.

To start the art is incredible! So fantastic to get the art back on point after a really rough start in the previous volume.

So its no secret where this story is going but how we get there is a mystery. Mogul will rule over Superman and force him to battle gladiator style on WarWorld... but how does it all happen.

Issue 1030 deals with a mysterious guest to Mogul who brings gifts and an alien ship crash landing on earth with its survivors rescued by Jon and Clark as the Superman duo.

Excited to dive into the next issue!

Plus five stars for the Superman story, and minus four stars for the Sodomite Midnighter story that nobody is interested in. As long as DC keeps pushing that perversion, they’re going to get more and more left back in the dust of history. And Marvel will soon follow.

I mean it’s alright. I’m in it for Midnighter really. There is no sweeping epic level of storytelling which this title should have.
Midnighter is very good but could be better. I enjoy the relationship with Apollo. It gives him some definition in such a short page count

This was pretty solid! I really liked how Jon is written here. Both deciding what he wants while also his father trying to face the future that might not be so bright. The art is excellent too.

Damn the art is amazing. The story is quite good as well, I'm intrigued. Plus a Midnighter bonus story. I've missed him and Apollo, I'd love another main story with them.

Mongul encuentra una razón para llegar a la Tierra. Jon habla de cómo en el futuro todo es incierto respecto a ese momento de la historia y el futuro de la vida de su padre. La Tierra, entonces, es invadida por cientos de naves de Warworld (planeta de Mongul) y una nave, al parecer, traía algunos kryptonianos que hablan kryptoniano antiguo. Todo esto junto, parece una epopeya bien hilada.
