Lord Mockingbird with tequila at the boarding house. Sounds like a game of "Clue", doesn't it? Only it's more fun. When a man dies after having an argument with him, Mr. Buttons is suspected of murder. Sibyl and Cressida search for clues to the real murderer. Max is one of my favorite "characters". I really love this series and the others by Morgana Best. When will the next one be available, Morgana?? Lol

This is a great Australian cozy. When the First Earl of Mockingbird comes to the boarding house he immediately starts in on Mr Buttons. Apparently he wants a rare manuscript that Mr Buttons gave to a museum years ago. The next thing you know, there's another death at the boarding house. Naturally Cressida and Sybil investigate. This cozy is full of laughs and I loved it!

Another day, another murder at Cressida's boardinghouse, only this time the poor victim was the 5th Earl of Mockingbird, Peregrine, who showed up with his entourage of female assistants and his driver. He's an unlikable sort of guy and it's not long before he's done in with a methanol laced shot of tequila. Mr. Buttons, who is immediately under suspicion as he had an acrimonious relationship with Peregrine, is nonplussed and mortified to be taken in several times for questioning. Cressida pulls Sibyl in to help investigate, complete with humorous capers and sleuth out the killer before the suspects can flee back to England.

I always love when I get to travel back to Little Tatterford and that dreary boardinghouse with death scene paintings on the walls. This is such a great series that really should get more attention than it does. It has everything; great plots, laugh out loud moments, characters who are delightfully offbeat and a cursing cockatoo, always entertaining and I look forward to each new book. This one had a couple of good red herrings, ones that I was leaning towards being completely unrelated to the plot but couldn't figure out why they were there unless they were related? I love when a book makes me question my thought processes while peppering me with things that make me laugh; Cressida's newest painting, Lord Farringdon's tantrum, it's hard not to giggle when reading these books. I also love the ideas Cressida comes up to snoop around. Drop bears, anyone? But the plot itself was quite good; with no information to go on other than the earl's catty entourage, I had fewer ideas on the suspects than Sibyl, Cressida and Mr. Buttons did.

Tequila Mockingbird is Book 7 in the fantastic Australian Amateur Sleuth Series.
This book can be read as a stand alone story.

The First Earl of Mockingbird has a surprise visit to Australia and is staying at the boarding house. This comes as a big surprise to Mr. Buttons as they are long time enemies. Next thing you know there is another murder at the boarding house. I loved this story, I laughed out loud so many times.
Mr. Buttons is a prime suspect in the murder and Cressida and Sybil have to find the real killer before Mr. Buttons gets hauled off to jail.

The characters are so fun and well written and the mystery will leave you so surprised!

I love the romance between Sybil and Drake, its just enough that it doesn't take over the main story.

I highly recommend this fantastic book. Be sure to check out the other books in the series!

Book #7 in the Australian Amateur Sleuth Series May just be the best yet. An unsavory Englishman and his entourage invade Cressida’s boarding house. Shortly after the group arrives, there’s a murder.

Can Cressida, Mr. Buttons, Sybil and Blake figure out who the Murder is before one of them becomes the target?

Each one of the books can be read as a stand alone, and you’d have no trouble keeping up.

Such a lovely, wonderfully quirky cast of characters. A definite must read.

in this the latest installment of the Australian Amateur Sleuth series Sybil, Cressida, Mr. Buttons and company are once again embroiled in murder. The 5th Earl of Mockingbird has been poisoned while staying at Cressida's boarding house. Police assume Mr. Buttons has killed the man because they had had an argument shortly before he was murdered. So, once more Sybil sticks her nose into an investigation....With a few places of total hilarity this is another jaunt into fun.

I enjoy Morgana Best books. Since finding her books I have read several and they never fail to entertain me. Tequila Mockingbird is exactly what I was expecting. A good time, some laughs, a number of animals, a dead body, a mystery to solve.
In this book, Mr. Buttons is the main suspect! Cressida and Sibyl know it couldn’t possibly be him. With a house full of suspects ready to leave the country will they be able to convince the police of Mr. Buttons innocence before the guests leave?
Time flew by while reading this. Did I guess who did it? Honestly, I was having such a good time with the antics of Cressida and Sibyl I wasn’t putting together everything. So nope, I did not. There was a second minor mystery playing out to keep you guessing.
This book is perfect for a dreary fall day. You will be laughing in no time. Get your copy and settle in for a couple hours of fun!

This book is absolutely perfect reading for 2020! Laugh yourself silly with this cast of nutz as scripted by the Marx brothers. A snooty British earl and his Australiaphobic entourage descend upon the boarding house to harass one of the boarders who is an earl himself. Cue the successful murder. Follow this with other attempted murders, malicious mischief, the odd house owner and the neighboring sleuth masquerading as Australian Drop Bears (shades of Dr Siri Paiboun and Mme Deng). I had to go back and read it for the plot because I was having too much fun with all the antics. The plot is good, too!

Sibyl, Cressida, and Mr. Buttons are back! The boarding house is expecting English visitors, and it turns out to be the Fifth Earl of Mockingbird and entourage. What they weren't expecting was the Earl to drop dead shortly after his arrival, after Mr. Buttons tells him he can't sell the Earl a valuable manuscript because he donated it years ago to a museum. What I did expect was Cressida to talk Sibyl into investigating a la Cressida style---in other words, wacky! If you like blue horses, imaginary animals, window entrances and exits, pets with opinions, and Frenchmen who aren't French, Then there are plenty of delights awaiting you!

I laughed, worried, and practically cheered as I read this entertaining book. Seventh in a series that gets funnier as it progresses. Love this author's humor and great characters!

Another cute entry in this cozy mystery series. This one needed a little more suspension of disbelief than some of the others. The Earl of Mockingbird traveling with an entourage of "friends" who don't seem to have any particular role or tasks seems a bit of a stretch. I can see it for his love interest, but otherwise? And then why stay at a little boarding house versus a posh hotel? Even the connection to Mr. Buttons makes this a bit dodgy. Also, if the woman can purchase the lucerne hay for the horse from the farm store, why can't she purchase the shampoo at the same place? Why steal it from Sibyl's van?

Once I put these and other oddities out of mind, I completely enjoy the stories and I also like the narrator. She was a bit off on Tommy's accent, but otherwise does a great job.

The Fifth Earl of Mockingbird, has pulled a surprise visit on Mr. Buttons.
Mr. Buttons had a previous acrimonious relationship with the Earl when they were both much younger at Harvard. Before Mr. Buttons had given up his own wealth and absconded to Australia to live in anonymity.
The Earl is after a valuable manuscript that Mr. Buttons had once possessed, but had given away before moving.
When the Earl is murdered, the local detective hones in on Mr. Buttons as he has had it in for everyone who resided at Cressida's home.

There are developed characters and some humor in the story.
But parts of the story also left me confused at times, and wondering what happened to the main characters normal personalities and strengths.

Tequila Mockingbird is Book 7 Australian Amateur Sleuth Series. nThis can be a stand alone since this is the first book in the series that I Have read.

The Fifth Earl of Mockingbird who's really name is Peregrine Winthrop-Momtgomery-Rose-Bucklefort (that's a mouth full) has made a surprised visit to see Mr.Buttons in Australian. The Earl of Mockingbird wanting some manuscript that Mr. Buttons has donated to the British Library some years ago.

Mr. Buttons becomes the prime suspect in the murder. Sybil and Cressida bette figure out who the real killer before Mr. Buttons gets hauled off to jail.

Oh I am so sad I caught up with publication for this series!
I really got so familiar with the characters and the village of Little Tatterford, it’s so sad having to leave. Sybil and Blake’s relationship is so sweet and seems to be working out well, and Cressida and Mr Buttons are the usual fun pair.

The Earl was most off putting, and his snobbish entourage was also comically silly. Everyone could have been the culprits, and the mystery was more complex due to a horse turning blue amongst other complications.

I really look forward to the next one!

When the First Earl of Mockingbird and his entourage come to stay at the boardinghouse and he winds up dead, all evidence seems to point to Mr. Buttons as he and the Earl are old frenemies. Can Cressida, Mr. Buttons and Sybil figure out who killed the Earl? Delightfully written, enjoyable to read. Can be read as a stand alone, but is more enjoyable if other books in the series have been read. I received an ARC of this book and I’m leaving a voluntary review.

Another crazy adventure in the Australian outback. A minor royal contingent has decamped to stay at the bed & breakfast and visit Mr Buttons. Of course, one of them is murdered with no obvious suspect. And why is there a blue horse in the pasture?

Fun book, crazy but loveable characters, and a new mystery.

Not my cup of tea. I don't mind a cozy mystery but the characters need to have a little bit of common sense for me to get engaged.
