Mr. Darcy's Comedy of Errors: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
Will their love survive their in-laws?

The newlyweds of Derbyshire—formerly Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet—barely have time to enjoy each other’s company before unexpected visitors descend upon Pemberley.

To Elizabeth’s horror, her mother and father have invited themselves and their two married daughters to stay with the Darcys, and their departure date remains as elusive as Mrs. Bennet’s manners. Elizabeth feels torn between her duties as a hostess and her desire to throttle her mother to have a moment’s peace.

Worse, the quest to discover the Bennets’ true motives for being there threatens the deep affection she and her husband have for each other. When Mr. Darcy learns the shocking cause of this impromptu visit, he must devise a plan with his wife to save her family from ruin… again.

But first, he must save his marriage.

A very cute, short an sweet comedy, in which the newlywed Darcys are invaded by family. All they want is to be able to spend time together, without familial distractions.
One thing after another, piles on top of the last brings a house party at Pemberley to boiling point.
In the end, the author concluded it quite gracefully. I was the lunatic screaming at my tablet- "just give them a piece of your mind already...!"
One of the better written books I have read by this author. Definitely had me chuckling. Poor Darcy was very frustrated, eyebrow waggle...

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

I wouldn't really say it is Mr. Darcy's "comedy of errors" but there are a number of things that go wrong as the Darcys are still in the honeymoon phase of their marriage. The entire Bennet family shows up at Pemberley, claiming that repairs are being made to Longbourn. They have already worn out their welcome at Netherfield with the Bingleys. That situation turns out to not be true and I will leave it to you to discover just that that disaster really entails.

Mrs. Bennet takes no time at all trying to supplant Elizabeth as Mistress, checking menus, etc. and expecting the Darcys to pay for new wardrobes for Kitty and Mary along with sponsoring them for their debut into society.

A hint about inviting a cat to get rid of mice leads to the Darcys inviting all their immediate families in the hopes this will drive the Bennets out. They have offered them a cottage on the grounds to reside in. Darcy wants his privacy back so the honeymoon can go on. There are just too many interruptions with the Bennets present for any private moments.

So it is that Pemberley becomes the scene of a house party. Lady C. had been invited but not expected to show up...she, like the Bennets, arrived unexpectedly. And she does have a few comments about the situation.

This story may have you groaning as you want to shake both Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and hope that when it is all settled ODC can put all the stress behind them.

Fun and farcical

This is an enjoyable variation which occurs months after Darcy and Elizabeth weds. Their marital bliss, however new and brief, is interrupted by circumstances beyond their control. What they thought was a good solution makes their situation more dire.

Despite a few typographical errors, this is still well-written and engaging. The subject matter is just not this reader’s cup of tea as it focuses more on secondary characters and the actions of others that make the newlyweds’ life a living hell.

What strikes this reader is how the Darcys couldn’t handle the situation to their liking given that it involves their own home. That was a different time with a different culture and value system. If this thing was done at present times, there wouldn’t be a question as to how this would have ended.

Great story

I loved the story, I liked the idea of getting the Bennetts out of the house. The heroine was Lady Catherine, who but Mrs De Bourgh, could get the Bennetts in line in a few minutes! I wished for an epilogue to see how the training went.

A p&p sequel where three months after the Darcy wedding the Bennets arrive at Pemberley looking to stay awhile because of their changed circumstances
Unfortunately I did found the story more annoying than a comedy, and not really believable. Why the Darcys couldn't think and do the obvious action and solution to get rid of the 3 most irritating members - Mr and Mrs Bennet and Kitty - is beyond me.

Mr. Darcy’s Comedy of Errors

I very much enjoyed the story, but unsure why the title as I didn’t see where Darcy made many errors other than not throw the Bennets out of Pemberley especially when he found out the reason they were there. Mrs. Bennet needed to be put in her place so that her mouth was permanently shut. And Kitty needed a set down way more than she received from Elizabeth. As for Mr. Bennet, he needed to be placed in Bedlam for allowing his wife to destroy the estate to the point where Longbourn was lost to creditors. The only mistake Darcy made was not talking with Elizabeth when the Bennets first arrived. Darcy didn’t act like Darcy and demand their immediate removal to anywhere else than Pemberley especially after Mrs. Bennet’s constant complaints about Elizabeth’s duty to her sisters and the use of Darcy’s money to pay for it. Her delusional behavior needed to be addressed harshly. Loved the way Darcy finally handles their removal to the cottage. The role Mrs. Gardiner and Lady Matlock played was effective and efficient, but it was Lady Catherine de Bourgh who in her ever knows what’s best step in a takeover strategy to be so useful when not asked to do so that removed the Darcys’ irritating guests - the Bennets. Congratulations Lady Catherine for once overstepping your boundaries were effortlessly effective. As for the Darcys, the newly married parents to be were on their own at Swiss Cottage and free of the disgraceful Bennets through no effort on their part. I guess what bothered me about this story was how OOC both Darcy and Elizabeth were.

Mr. Darcy's Comedy of Errors by Bella Breen is a wonderful read. Darcy and Lizzy have just married and are on their honeymoon at Pemberley. In Regency England, especially amongst the peers, there was the custom not to bother the newly weds for at least 6 months. Now, what would happen if a carriage pulled up, filled to the brim with trunks, boxes and yes, people. This lead to hilarity, anger and tears. As much as I want to tell you all about this well written book, I won't. I will tell you that I was laughing, crying and just a bit annoyed at a few people, but read it for yourself; you'll love it.

Poor Elizabeth and Darcy. Here they are thoroughly enjoying being newlyweds at Pemberley when along comes a carriage full of Bennets. Mrs Bennet is determined to teach her daughter how to be the proper wife, Kitty is determined to have a London season , and Mr Bennet is determined to ignore them all! There are some twists that are unexpected and some funny moments as well. The solution is quite novel as well

It seems they are in trouble yet again but he also needs to save his marriage. What have they done now? Can he help them? Will he help them? Can he save his marriage? See how he deals with it all

Surprising behaviors

Interesting plot, although very unbelievable, with the Bennet family invading Pemberley only 3 months after the final wedding in canon. Behaviors do not always make sense, such as Darcy reverting to scornful, arrogant attitudes or Lizzy being weepy and insecure. Overall, it was just too hard to believe.

Lovely

Another lovely little variation inspired by author Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Bella Breen. Who wants to have your family join you on you honeymoon...certainly not the Darcy’s. What happens next?

There is NO comedy here. Bad behavior, borderline abusive. Horrendous.

Sweet

Not so much of a comedy as I expected but I really enjoyed Lady Catherine's interference. Surprised the Darcy's did not comment on it. Do they even know yet?

I loved it! Such a riveting tale. I couldn’t put it down. I got so engrossed in the story that I actually felt like I was apart of the story. I also love the all time classic original book it’s based, plus all the TV series and movie adaptations as well.
