What starts as a simple ritual soon turns carnal when a monk falls for a betrothed woman under his tutelage.
Growing up in a world where men outnumber women ten to one, I escape a lonely existence and become a Pleasure Monk. When one of our precious, rare women chooses the men who will be her protectors and bondmates, I instruct them in the art of feminine pleasure. Though I can never find a love of my own, at least I have a purpose in teaching others to cater to a woman's every sexual need.
Or I had a purpose. My services were sought after by many bonded females. Until the day I screwed up. Literally.
Now I have a final chance to redeem myself. If I fail again, the entire Order of Pleasure Monks is in jeopardy. However, when I meet my new charge, all my plans crumble into dust. Lady Chanyn is pure perfection, a blessing from the Goddess, who awakens my heart and my loins. I will risk anything to have her—my brothers, my vows, my future.
Basic plot: Several lightly-connected stories about a semi-dystopian future where society treasures women.
This was a freebie I got on a "stuff your Kindle" day.
The society created here was really fascinating. I actually spent a good deal of time thinking about it and how it worked. What the implications were for gender norms, etc. The characters all faced difficulties with the older generation that caused them to leave their bio families for more found family. Honestly, for what basically should have just been smut, there was some interesting story here. My only real complaint is that the whole volume desperately needed a proofreader. There were a lot of homophones (words that sounded the same, but meant something drastically different than intended) and general grammar errors.
This was free for Kindle a few days ago and sounded intriguing, so I said what the heck...
Basically, this was moderately well written porn. The world was interesting (matriarchal dystopia) and characters were sympathetic...but an extreme level of insta-love and a lot of flat dialogue kept taking me out of the story. Not bad for a quick read, but don’t go into it expecting great literature.
Did not finish book. Got incredibly bored at 21% The theme of the story felt truly unrealistic....which is a lot to say since I read a TON of Paranormal Romance Books. Anyway it was a struggle to keep going. I was not at all engaged.
more layered than I imagined. world where women are revered, triads are common family unit. triggers for death of MC and loss of baby, but well handled. unusual and sympath'c treatment of poly. some odd/made-up words used.
The way Ms. Johnson has written her characters and their interactions is brilliant. I loved the story of the three main characters and the pleasure hound John. It really is a beautiful love story with just the right amount of heat.
This is actually three stories the first one was my favorite. I loved this story it was futuristic showing us our human frailties and how the potential for darkness and ego and power hungry became a female trait. I enjoyed the irony somewhat but truly felt a sort of desperate sadness that shows humans are just so damn fallible. The love story of the four main characters and how interwoven was beautiful all four broken but so much more together. LOVE is in these pages and show us that LOVE MAKES US HUMAN AND BETTER FOR IT. The second story was centered around a cousin of the first main female chanyon and again we see how over time woman kind has become ugly they feel superior to men and devalue them as well as discount them. The way the women see their own children was beyond disgusting and sooooo disturbing. This theme is in all three books and made me uncomfortable that the majority of women could be this way creeped me out. The one true theme of the books are women and men are possessed of darkness, ignorance, self-serving, LoVe, empathy and compassion are needed for all of us to truly live a life worth living. Erotica at its best I would say.
No Spoilers... A different kind of story. Takes place in the future. It was a nice story. It took me so long as I was in process of moving and would have been done sooner if I had the time. It was an enjoyable read.
